When Cosima admits doubts about finding a cure in time to save her life, Sarah makes a lone decision that exposes Kendall to those she’s spent years hiding from. Meanwhile, Art and Felix team up to protect naïve clone, Krystal Goderitch, from herself.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Affably Evil: Duko offers Kendall a cigarette and a blanket after kidnapping her.
  • Badass Boast: Beth gave one after Evie threatened her. And then pistol whipped her.
Beth: Do you think I'm afraid to die? You think I'm scared of anything right now?
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Evie Cho succeeds in making Leda obsolete by having original murdered and destroying Cosima and Scott's research.
  • Cassandra Truth: Krystal tries to convince the police to take her into protective custody because of her fear of the Dyad and BrightBorn, but everyone dismisses her as being crazy.
  • Character Death: Kendall Malone is assassinated and incinerated by Duko on the orders of Evie Cho.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Ira.
    Sarah: Christ, a Castor.
    Ira: Actually I'm a Libra.
  • Decapitated Army: Beth hoped to destroy Neolution by killing Susan Duncan, but Susan explains that if she dies someone else will take her place. Beth ultimately decides to spare her.
  • Defiant to the End: Kendeall continues to insult Evie Cho and Marty Duko with her last words, and even tells Cosima not to cry because they aren't worth the salt.
  • Downer Ending: One of the most depressing endings yet: Kendall is dead, Delphine is claimed to be dead, Cosima has been emotionally destroyed, there's no more hope for a cure, and we see the moments directly leading up to Beth's suicide.
  • Driven to Suicide: Ira attempts to OD after Susan agrees to stop trying to get the Castor genome, but Sarah finds him just in time.
  • Enemy Mine: Cosima and Sarah discuss a compromise with Susan Duncan. If they hand over Kendall Malone, Susan will find cure for Cosima and remove the bot from Sarah's cheek. There are concerns that the neolutionists will use the Castor pathogen. However, Kendall's leukemia made it possible for Cosima and Scott to isolate the Leda genome, thereby keeping the Castor genome out of Susan's hands.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Ira's reaction when Susan agrees to only take the Leda genome and not the Castor genome.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Susan genuinely loves Ira and may possibly care about the Leda clones.
  • He Knows Too Much: This is Evie's reason for blackmailing Beth into killing herself.
  • Heroic Suicide: It's finally revealed exactly why Beth killed herself: Evie Cho threatened to kill all her loved ones if she didn't, because she knew too much. Beth jumped in front of that train to protect everyone she loved.
  • Internal Reveal: Everyone else finds out that Kendall has cancer, which she had previously kept concealed.
  • Last Words: Kendall gives hers to Cosima.
Kendall: No tears, Cosima. Theses shites ain't worth the salt. Tell Siobhan... she's done right, always. And tell your sisters I'm so proud to have been part of them all. Turn around, love. Turn around! Good girl!
  • Mama Bear: Inverted. Siobhan is shown to be very protective of her mother. She slowly starts to lose it when Kendall is kidnapped.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Beth had blood on her hands because she pistol whipped Evie Cho for threatening her loved ones.
  • Not Me This Time: Susan is actually innocent of kidnapping Kendall Malone. It was Detective Marty Duko.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Kendall sees something in the van and then a man comes down the alley with a knife.
    • When Sarah finds Kendall's cigarette in a pool of blood.
    • Scott has this reaction when his computers have been compromised and all their research was destroyed.
  • Pet the Dog: A really small one, but Evie lets Cosima say goodbye to Kendall before she (Kendall) is killed.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Duko is strongly implied to be one.
Duko: (to Kendall) I'm just in over my head, lady. Just like everybody else.
  • The Reveal:
    • Evie reveals exactly what Sarah's bot does. It's supposed to make her sick, but since she's immune the Neolutionists are hoping to isolate the gene that causes the illness.
    • Evie Cho wants to destroy Leda. She put the idea to kill Susan in Beth's head, and then told her to kill herself to save the other clones. She's forced Duko to work for her and to kidnap Kendall. She's behind the attack on Scott's computer, and has kidnapped Cosima.
    • Evie Cho claims that Delphine is dead. However, Villains Never Lie certainly applies here, and the next episode reveals that when Krystal saw Delphine get shot, an as-yet-unspecified person carried her away, still alive, so it's not clear that she is really dead.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Inverted. Krystal has the right facts — the Dyad and BrightBorn are sinister forces — but her conclusion is completely off-base. She thinks they're targetting beauty professionals; human cloning and genetic modification never even crossed her mind.
  • Villains Never Lie: Cosima immediately believes Evie when she says that Delphine was murdered by Neolution. Justified given that she had just watched Neolution murder someone else, Delphine hasn't been seen or heard from in weeks, and it's entirely possible that Evie herself genuinely believed Delphine really was dead.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Evie Cho is revealed to be one. She wants to perfect the human genome to prevent diseases and disorders, due to her own miserable childhood going in and out of hospitals. She compares her methods to Da Vinci robbing graves to study anatomy.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Siobhan is hurt and angry to learn that Sarah and Cosima traded Kendall away to Susan Duncan.
