Go To

When Pipp gets sick just before an important livestream, her friends try to nurse her back to health.

Tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: When Izzy arrives to look after Pipp, she says it's time for the "holistic healing helping hoof."
  • Affectionate Nickname: Izzy calls Pipp "Pipper," "Pipperoni and Cheese," and "Pippersaurus."
  • At Arm's Length: Zipp takes Pipp's phone away, then does this to keep her from grabbing it back.
  • Big Sister Bully: Pipp recalls a time when Zipp put a candy apple in her mane. Zipp's response is to snicker and say, "Oh, yeah! Classic."
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Peach Fizz wonders if Pipp is about do a big announcement, a song, or a big announcement about a song.
  • Cabin Fever: It doesn't take long for Pipp to go stir-crazy from being confined to bed rest at the Brighthouse.
  • Call-Back:
    • Pipp's big announcement is a team-up with the group Electric Blue, who were introduced in the Bridlewoodstock special.
    • Pipp's lucky microphone from Chapter One appears.
    • An instrumental version of the song "Where'd It Go?" (from "Hoof Done It?") plays while Zipp is showing Pipp and Misty all the evidence she's collected.
    • In "The Jinxie Games," Pipp protests to Haven that Hitch is just a friend and that they often play board games together. The two end up doing exactly that near the end of the episode.
  • Double-Meaning Title: "A Little Horse" is not just a play on the term "a little hoarse" (used to describe a sore throat), but also the fact that Pipp, as a pony, literally is a little horse. And we get to see her as an even littler horse during a flashback to her fillyhood.
  • Hidden Depths: Zipp is revealed to be a big fan of an expansive series of adventure books known as The Chronicles of Chevalia.
  • Hot Drink Cure: Izzy tries brewing some magical tea to cure Pipp's illness, but after two failed attempts, she gives up looking for the cure and just brews her some chamomile tea to at least cheer her up.
  • I Call It "Vera": Pipp calls her phone "Bestie" when Zipp takes it away after catching the former attempting to livestream.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: When Sunny tries to get some of the special soup from the cart, the pony running it tells her that he's all out. But when he learns it's meant for Pipp, he immediately starts making some.
  • Internal Reveal: Zipp figures out from the book that the evil pony menacing them is an alicorn that seeks dragon fire.
  • Lethal Chef:
    • Sunny appears to be one when it comes to soup. She tries to make Pipp's favorite recipe, but burns the first batch and ends up with a pot full of smoking black sludge.
    • Queen Haven reveals that she is a terrible chef, and thus never made that soup herself. Instead, she bought it from a soup stand and had the vendor add extra carrots.
  • Offscreen Crash: Happens when Pipp throws her usual microphone away and replaces it with her lucky one, and later whenever Haven is startled enough to throw her phone aside.
  • Playing Sick:
    • While visiting Zephyr Heights, Sunny fakes a cough in order to get Haven to tell her about Pipp's special soup without actually saying that Pipp is sick.
    • When Zipp tells Pipp about her investigation, Misty fakes a cough to excuse herself out of it because she knows that Zipp has almost figured out Opaline's entire plan.
  • Pun: The following exchange when Zipp tells Pipp about her investigation:
Zipp: I wanna take you through my ongoing case against the nefarious evil pony who wants to steal magic!
    Misty: [gasps]
Pipp: Ooh, ooh! Okay. You mean the dirt. The goss. The tea?
Izzy: [offscreen] No, it's not ready yet!
  • Pun-Based Title: The title is a play on "hoarse", referring to Pipp's sore throat.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Kenneth gets so fed up with Pipp's critique of the play he and the critters have put on, he throws down his tin-can hat and storms off.
  • Sick Episode: The episode is about Pipp's friends taking care of her while she's sick, despite her insisting that she should continue with her livestream.
  • Soup Is Medicine: Pipp requests Sunny to discreetly ask Queen Haven for her Special Sick Day Soup, which Haven used to make for Pipp's sick days when she was younger. Sunny tries dancing around the issue so Queen Haven won't freak out over Pipp's illness, but Haven finally admits that she buys the soup from The Souper Ladle Food Cart and passes it off as her cooking because she's bad at it. Sunny still brings the soup back to Pipp, thinking that it will magically cure her illness, but Pipp tells her that it isn't a miracle cure. She's known for a long time that the soup isn't homemade, but she always appreciated the trouble Haven took to get it for her. The soup always cheered her up, and it was also really good.
  • String Theory: Zipp shows Pipp and Misty a bulletin board covered with all her evidence, with strings running from one item to another.
