The third side story performance in the series, centering on the Gou swords, Suishinshi Masahide, and Oodenta Mitsuyo as they put on a play based on their own interpretation of Nansō Satomi Hakkenden.

While cleaning out the storehouse, Kotegiri discovers Yamanbagiri's copy of Nansō Satomi Hakkenden and decides to write a script based on it so that he and his fellow Gou swords can stage a play, with some changes to the story based on Murakumo's suggestions regarding the unfair original fate of one of the main characters. After some "convincing", Oodenta Mitsuyo and Suinshinshi Masahide join the group in putting on a grand play for an audience of Saniwa.

Tropes:

     Main Story
  • Abusive Parents: Oodenta as Tamazusa, who is cold, emotionally manipulative, and physically abusive through magic toward Murakumo's character, only using him for her own ends. Not to mention she killed his real parents and kidnapped him as a baby to use in her revenge plot.
  • All Musicals Are Adaptations: In a twist in that it's a musical adaptation of a work (Touken Ranbu), which has it's characters adapt another work (Nansō Satomi Hakkenden) into a musical for an audience of Saniwa.
  • Ambiguously Related: Suishinshi points out that the Gou swords get along as well as siblings, which Kuwana agrees with, but doesn't confirm either way whether they actually see themselves as siblings like other swords from the same school do. This becomes the foundation for their own adaptation of the Nansō Satomi Hakkenden play, as the characters reflect them as people brought together by fate rather than blood.
  • Breaking Old Trends:
    • It's the first non-concert performance to feature more than two Touken Danshi in it's lineup. Ironically, the Zepp Tour rerun would be more like a concert.
    • While most of the other side story musicals second acts have songs lists comprised of mostly cover songs from previous musicals, the song list for this musical is entirely new, similar to the main story plays.
    • It's the first side story to have a “rerun” that remove all the story elements.
  • Concert Episode: Zepp Tour ditches most of the story elements in favor of being a concert, similar to Kashuu Kiyomitsu Tanki.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Imanotsurugi's wooden backpack prop from his and Iwatooshi's programme "The Subscription List", which they performed in Tsuwamono Domo, was discovered while the Gou swords were cleaning out the storehouse.
    • Yamanbagiri Kunihiro and his many ways of making money from Kousui Sanka are mentioned when Kotegiri Gou discovers that he copied the book Nansō Satomi Hakkenden and tried to sell it, and decides to write a script based on it.
  • Creepy Crossdresser: The already kind of creepy Oodenta Mitsuyo plays the witch Tamazusa in the Gou play.
  • Cross-Cast Role: Oodenta Mitsuyo plays the role of Tamazusa, the witch, while one of the roles Buzen is double cast in is Hamaji.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Murakumo's character looks enough like a lady to fool Kuwana into falling for him, but the other characters aren't at all surprised that he's male when the truth comes out.
  • The Ghost: The Gou swords ask several other Touken Danshi to help them in their play, including Hyuuga Masamune, Ookanehira, and Tonbokiri, but the audience does not see them.
  • Nested Story: It's a play about the characters putting on their own version of the play Nansō Satomi Hakkenden.
  • Princely Young Man: The idol costumes in this play are styled after prince outfits, color-coded to fit each character.
  • Pun-Based Title: "Go (the name of their school) on Stage," … it speaks for itself.
  • Sequel Hook: Unlike other side stories, the main story of this play ends with the characters implying that it will get a direct continuation.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Like Mikazuki, Tsurumaru, and Hizen before him, Samidare's third layer outfit exposes his upper back for Fanservice.
  • Sixth Ranger: The Gou swords are the main focus, playing all the main characters, while Oodenta Mitsuyo and Suishinshi, who join them after their misadventures in Tokyo Kokoro Oboe, play the main villain and a supporting role/narrator, respectively. Promotional merch and images even pair them off together by default.
  • Slice of Life: The Gou swords, Oodenta, and Suishinshi spend the entire first hour of the play hanging around the citadel and preparing for the play.
  • Three-Act Structure: The play's opening section centers on the Touken Danshi hanging around Honmaru and getting ready for Nansou Satomi Hakkenden. In the second act, they perform the play, and in the third act, an idol performance takes center stage.
  • Tsundere: Played for Laughs with Oodenta Mitsuyo. He really wants to convince Kotegiri that he doesn't want to be in his play, but he actually does and does a bad job of pretending otherwise. When he finally gets a part in it, he pretends it was their idea all along and then completely sells the role of the witch.
  • Unlimited Wardrobe: The characters go through several costume changes as a result of putting on an In-Universe play: from their default outfits to their Internal Affairs outfits to play costumes, and lastly their three layered Live section outfits.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Buzen Gou plays Hamaji, a female character and the sister of the other character he plays, Dousetsu, whereas Murakumo has his character pretend to be a girl as part of the witches' plot.
     Live and Zepp Tour
  • Color-Coded Characters: For the Gou swords, the first layer of their costumes look very similar save for their shoes and sleeve lengths, and their outfits are primarily green, but each have a highlight color that matches the color associated with each Gou: Kotegiri's color is a lighter green, Kuwana's is yellow, Murakumo's is pink, Samidare's is purple, Buzen is red, and Matsui's is blue. The two non-Gou swords, on the other hand, have more distinctive attire with different color schemes. Oodenta is dressed in black and red with gold accents, while Suishinshi is dressed in black with purple accents.
  • Coordinated Clothes:
    • Samidare and Murakumo wear identical costumes for their duet "Fairytale," with the only differences being color palettes and accessories.
    • In Zepp Tour, Buzen and Matsui wear matching costumes for their due "Namida Drop."
  • Custom Uniform: Matsui and Kotegiri wear similarly styled outfits for their duet "Parasite," which are slightly more tailored to their individual styles than Samidare and Murakumo's near identical costumes.
  • Let's Duet: The original run featured "Fairytale" for Samidare and Murakumo, "Parasite" for Matsui and Kotegiri, and "Lose Your Mind" for Suishinshi and Oodenta. In Zepp Tour, no character gets a new solo, and the duets are "2 THE TOP" Suishinshi and Oodenta, "R.U.N" for Kotegiri Gou and Kuwana Gou, "Seizon-sha Bias" for Murakumo and Samidare, and "Namida Drop" for Buzen and Matsui.
