Recap / Martha Speaks S 1 E 8 Martha Camps Out

Go To

Helen, Mrs. Clusky, and Helen's female classmates are at school in scout garb, reciting a chant. Then, Mrs. Clusky reveals that the Flea Island campground is open in case any of the girls wants to earn her merit badge, so Helen and Alice raise their hands.

Helen and Alice then pack for their camping trip, while Helen's dogs watch. As the girls explain to Martha how merit badges work, Ronald approaches and tells them that there is a monster named Big Minnie in the campground. The girls explain that Big Minnie is supposed to be a sasquatch-type monster, but that it's only an urban legend. As Ronald bikes away, the girls just brush him off, but Martha runs after him and asks for more information. Ronald claims that Big Minnie is hairy, with paws the size of skateboards, red eyes, and who howls at the moon and kills people.

Later, at the Lorraine house, Helen (who is packing) and Martha tell Mariella about Big Minnie. Mariella has heard of Big Minnie too, but doesn't believe in her, however, she is a bit unsure about an incident from her childhood, in which she was wrongly blamed for causing destruction on a camping trip and they never found out who or what caused it. Martha tries pulling on Helen's clothes so she won't go, but Helen insists on going. That night (before the girls have left), Martha has a nightmare in which Helen and Alice are approached by Big Minnie at the campground, so she insists on accompanying Helen as well.

The next day is the day the girls go camping, and Martha, true to her word, tags along, as does Skits. They put up their tents, and the dogs clear some brush, and then at night, the humans go to bed, but the dogs try to stay up late to guard them. They fall asleep and are awakened by howling, so they run fearfully into the girls' tent. Martha tells them that Ronald's impersonation of Big Minnie's howl sounded the same, so Alice exits the tent and discovers that it's only a recording that Ronald did of himself howling. She, Helen, and Alice scare him back by dressing as Big Minnie. Then, they go to bed, and Martha discovers that Big Minnie does exist, but thankfully, she doesn't kill anyone.

Afterwards, the girls earn their merit badges and Martha tries to tell everyone about Big Minnie. Unfortunately, no one believes her except for Skits.
