Recap / Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia S 15 E 04 The Gang Replaces Dee With A Monkey

Go To

The Gang replaces Dee with a monkey as Paddy's bartender under the mistaken belief that Dee is going through menopause. Meanwhile, Dee teaches an acting class after an unsuccessful audition.

Tropes:

  • The Alleged Expert: Dee, a complete failure of an actress, starts an acting class. Examples of her excellent advice include never listening and shouting as loudly as possible.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Dee deliberately gives her acting students the worst possible advice, including to make their performances excruciatingly over the top in this style.
  • Bestiality Is Depraved: Mac seems into the idea that the monkey may have sexually assaulted him when he was asleep.
  • Black Comedy Rape: It's implied that the monkey may have sexually assaulted the Gang after they passed out.
  • The Blind Leading the Blind: Dee remains a terrible actress and woefully unqualified to teach acting.
  • Casting Couch: Dee warns her students that their superiors in the acting world will "try to bang them," including herself.
  • Continuity Nod: Charlie mentions the time he slept with Dee.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Dennis holds up the napkin, you can see that the illiterate Charlie misspelled "yellow" as "yello."
  • Global Ignorance: Charlie is surprised to learn that Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania and doesn't believe two cities can occupy the same state.
    • Charlie also seems to think that "yellow" could be the name of a place where the Gang could go on vacation.
  • Greed: Dee is very insistent that her students pay her for her ludicrously bad acting classes.
  • Large Ham: Dee's acting "lessons" basically amount to telling her pupils to ham it up.
  • Late to the Realization: Frank, Mac, and Charlie all take quite a while to realize that Ireland is clearly the perfect place for their vacation, much to Dennis's frustration.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Dee openly discusses how much she enjoys manipulating her students' emotions and insecurities to a near-abusive degree.
  • Parental Incest: Dee writes a script for her students to use, in which the female lead reveals that her baby is not her boyfriend's, but her father's.
  • Precision F-Strike: Frank drops an F-bomb when he observes the monkey may have performed irrumatio on them (as he put it, "The monkey may have fucked our mouths") .
  • Sequel Hook: The episode ends with the Gang getting the idea to go to Ireland after Dee lands an acting gig there.
  • Slipping a Mickey: The monkey turns out to be spiking the Gang's beers with whiskey in order to assault them and rob the bar.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Mac and Charlie both write down colors as potential vacation spots.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Dee invokes this in her acting class.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Dennis is not impressed that Mac and Charlie wanted to go to "purple" on vacation and that Frank backs them up.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: Dee is hoping to start one by asking Tony to see her after class.
  • Tempting Fate: When Dee proclaims that she will be a friend to her students, she gets a call-back to the last audition to she went to, causing her to discontinue her acting class.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Charlie immediately vomits when Frank mentions the monkey "possibly fucked our mouths."
  • Word-Salad Humor: When the gang wakes up the morning after their drunken brainstorming session, they see the vacation destination they wrote on their easel is "monkey beer island of green and fight".
