Recap / Inhumans S 1 E 3 Divide And Conquer

Go To

Maximus tries to solidify his rule of Attilan by bringing Crystal over to his side, while sending more troops after Gorgon. Meanwhile, Black Bolt is taken to prison, Medusa searches for Black Bolt, and Karnak finds himself captured by drug dealers.

  • Artistic License – History: One of the surfers Gorgon befriends mentions that Hawai'i used to have a king before the Americans showed up. The last reigning Hawai'ian monarch was Queen Liliʻuokalani. However, she was the first and only Queen of Hawai'i, and before her were all kings so the surfer could very well be using a broad generalization.

  • Boxed Crook: Sammy gets tasked by Dr. Declan to safely bring Black Bolt to him in exchange for his freedom.
  • Broken Ace: After hitting his head, Karnak's Awesome by Analysis powers are now jacked up, as he discovers when he tries to escape from his confinement by the drug dealers.
  • Continuity Nod: Black Bolt is asked if he was experimented on or bitten by a radioactive bug before his cellmate correctly identifies him as an Inhuman when he responds to stone husks growing on him.
  • The Dreaded: Mordis is this for everyone in Attilan.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Auran is not comfortable with having Mordis as backup, as he is just death.
  • Follow That Car: Medusa orders Louise to follow the helicopter that Black Bolt is in.
  • It's Personal: The prison guard who keeps picking on Black Bolt is angry because one of the cops he seriously injured was his brother-in-law.

  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Auran and her team do not seem to like Mordis very much. The feeling is mutual.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: Medusa steals clothes and food from a civilian.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Gorgon orders his allies to retreat after Mordis shows up and completely demolishes their hiding place.
  • Missed Him by That Much: Medusa reaches the prison where Black Bolt is being held...just as he and his cellmate escape via helicopter.
  • Odd Friendship: Black Bolt befriends a brutish-looking inmate named Sammy while in prison. Becomes considerably less odd when Sammy turns out to be an Inhuman.
  • Oh, Crap!: Gorgon's expression screams this when he sees Mordis show up with Auran's men.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Mordis is stated to be the second most powerful Inhuman in Attilan next to Black Bolt. He demonstrates his powers to terrifying effect while fighting Gorgon and his allies on Earth.

  • Playing with Fire: Black Bolt's cellmate is able to, at the very least, melt solid metal.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Mordis and Auran make it very clear that they're only working together for Maximus's sake.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Maximus displays his skill at this by spinning Crystal's refusal to endorse him as king as her running from her problems like the rest of the royal family.
