Recap / High Guardian Spice Rainy Day Memories

Go To

Rosemary and Amaryllis are trying to separate Sage from Snapdragon. Meanwhile, Thyme gets desperate trying to save her forest.

  • All for Nothing: Both parties in the episode admit that their ideas could only have failed and should have done as their friends have said.
  • Bait-and-Switch: As Rosemary is narrating, it seems to be a Storybook Episode with Thyme playing as Oleander exploring the demonic cave. Actually, she and Parsley are in fact checking out that cave in the present.
  • Deal with the Devil:
    • The demon can grant any wish in exchange for something of value. But if the user isn't protected by the salt circle, they'll lose their life. Thyme tries it to contact her dad and screws up.
    • Rosemary taking Amaryllis's offer to hurt Sage's feelings is presented similarly to taking a demonic deal, as Amaryllis was very forward with the offer. Rosemary hesitantly agrees, but later reconsiders.
  • Embarrassment Plot: Amaryllis's spell can manifest someone's embarrassing memories, which she intends to use on Sage and Snapdragon, but hits herself and Rosemary instead. So the two run around collecting their childhood specters.
  • Forgetful Jones: Slime Boy reveals he's bad with memorizing faces, so he identifies people by their aura.
  • Former Teen Rebel: Younger Thyme couldn't care less about her elf responsibilities and wanted to only practice archery.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Amaryllis tells Rosemary that Snapdragon is a better friend to Sage than her. It's meant to be an insult to Rosemary, but at the time it was also accurate.
  • Heel Realization:
    • Rosemary eventually apologizes to Sage for not considering how she feels.
    • Amaryllis admits to Snapdragon that while she can't change who she is, she shouldn't try to change who they are either after they've been nice to her.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: When trapped, the demon asks if they can compromise to which Thyme shoots him in the head before he finishes talking.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Rosemary follows Amaryllis's plan to curse Sage and Snapdragon, and both ignore Slime Boy's and Parnelle's suggestion to just apologize and it also being kinda illegal. Rosemary and Amaryllis get hit with her own spell and specters of their childhood memories embarrass them to present students.
  • Metaphorgotten: Amaryllis tells that in a strategy game she'll be a Queen and not a Pawn, then tells that she doesn't know how to play chess and just likes her analogy.
  • Missing Steps Plan: Thyme's plan to save her forest is telling her dad about the healing water. He's a genius, so surely he can recreate it. This ignores that A. If he's such a genius he may have already tried something like that. B. She doesn't have the healing water with her for reference. C. She's making a Deal with the Devil just to make the call instead of using any other way of contacting him. Parsley points out how poorly thought out it is, and the two get nearly killed.
  • Never My Fault: Both issues get fixed at the end of the episode.
    • Despite being told how inconsiderate she is, Rosemary asks when will Sage stop being mad at her, then boasts to everyone how Sage will be missing whatever "important stuff" she's leaving for and gets convinced that she'll return if Snapdragon leaves her.
    • Amaryllis joins Rosemary because she thinks Sage "stole" Snapdragon from her and vice versa, despite Snapdragon being open about not liking to be treated as inferior.
  • Only Sane Man: Slime Boy tells Rosemary and Amaryllis that the memory spell is a bad idea.
  • Salt Solution: According to Rosemary, the demon cannot cross the circle of salt. The one Thyme uses is a magic circle one that makes a shield beforehand, and naturally she inadvertently breaks it.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Snapdragon makes a guess that Sage may be in love with Rosemary, after which she turns red and calls it ridiculous.
  • Relationship Sabotage: Amaryllis's plan is to secretly use a memory spell to expose Sage's and Snapdragon's embarrassing qualities, so they'd stop liking each other and would return to Rosemary and Amaryllis. Parnelle and Slime Boy repeatedly want them how bad of an idea it is.
  • Taking the Bullet: Rosemary changes her mind and blocks Amaryllis's memory spell meant for Sage, resulting in both of their embarrassing memories getting exposed.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Amaryllis threatens Parnelle to not tell anyone about her embarrassing childhood or she'll turn him into a pet lizard. He tells her to use something other than his life goal.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: Parsley tries to convince Thyme to not summon a demon. The rest of the kids want to make Sage and Snapdragon break up.
