The Third Crusade (1189–1192) and the reign of Richard the Lionheart (1189-1199). Also starring King Philippe II Auguste of France and Saladin.
Tropes:
- Big "SHUT UP!": Joan of England has enough of Berengaria of Navarre's songs at one point and yells at her to stop (which makes Berengaria cry), especially since she's already pissed by the Altar Diplomacy project to marry her to Saladin's brother.
- Borrowed Catchphrase: Pope Clement III reprises Urban II's Catchphrase from the First Crusade episode, "En vérité je vous le dis..." ("Verily, I say unto thee...").
- Hollywood Cuisine: Richard complains about English food and largely prefers that of Aquitaine.
- It Will Never Catch On: Richard finds the word "France" too obscure, referring to Philippe II's kingdom.
- Last-Second Word Swap: When King Philippe II talks about Eleanor of Aquitaine, he says "Une sacrée sa... souveraine." (he wanted to say the word "salope", which means "bitch", and quickly switched it to "sovereign").
- An Offer You Can't Refuse: Joan of England (and Queen of Sicily) refers to her marriage to William II of Sicily this way.
- Orphaned Etymology: Saladin speaks with Arabic words used in modern French language (this is Anachronism Stew, since most of these words came to be used in France as a result of the 19th-20th century colonisation in North Africa). Their etymology is explained onscreen as he talks.
- Shout-Out:
- When Joan of England and Sicily refers to her marriage to William II of Sicily as An Offer You Can't Refuse, Don Vito Corleone's head is superimposed on William's.
- Berengaria of Navarre always sings songs in Spanish with Disney Animated Canon melodies (those of "Some day my prince will come", "Let it go", "Circle of Life" and "A Whole New World" more specifically).
- The portraits of Queen Sibylla of Jerusalem and King Baldwin IV are their Kingdom of Heaven versions.
- For Richard's King Incognito journey through the Holy Roman Empire, a shot of Aragorn at the Prancing Pony is used. And he gets the subtitle "Return of the King" once he gets back home.
- Robin Hood shows up in the Creative Closing Credits, asking if this was the right filming set. He's quickly told by someone from the episode's filming crew "Nope, we do history here, for the Disney studios, it's the other way."
- Talk About the Weather: After the food, Richard complains about British Weather.
- Try to Fit That on a Business Card: Richard is Duke of Aquitaine, Duke of Normandy, Count of Poitiers, Count of Maine, Count of Anjou and King of England. Yes, all of that.
