Now loading Recap for Operation: G.I.R.L.F.R.I.E.N.D.:
Guess
It's
Realistic
Lizzie
Finally
Realizes
It's
Essentially
Nigel's
Dysfunction

Lizzie's always had to compete with the Kids Next Door for Nigel's attention, and she thinks Nigel has found a new girlfriend. But now it seems she has a rival for his love!

Tropes that appear in this episode:

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: The treehouse computer falls in love with Nigel and tries to take out Lizzie so that they can be together.
Computer: Lizzie is now obsolete and must, therefore, be disposed of.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Numbuh 1 thinks that Lizzie was only pretending to badmouth him, in order to take down the computer. Lizzie saying she meant every word cuts him pretty deep, as does her breaking up with him.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Lizzie goes on a tirade on how Numbuh One abandoned her at her sister’s wedding, mistakenly beat up her grandmother, and…ate a meatball sandwich.
  • Bank Robbery: Nigel is delayed from getting to Lizzie’s sister’s wedding by Captain Stickybeard robbing the “First National Kids Candy Bank”.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Lizzie when Numbuh 1 suddenly leaves to take a call.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Nigel manages to save Lizzie from Sector V's Tree House, but she's finally had enough of always being second to the KND and breaks up with him.
  • Creepy Monotone: The treehouse computer continues to speak in monotone, even while declaring its love for Numbuh 1 and justifying wanting to kill Lizzie.
    Computer: We must be together.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses on Nigel & Lizzie’s relationship, with none of the other Sector V kids present.
  • Edible Theme Clothing: Captain Stickybeard tries to steal the “Sweater of Sweetness”, a sweater made entirely out of candy. Nigel is able to retrieve it, but it’s then stolen again by Numbuh 65.3.
  • The End... Or Is It?: As Nigel stands by himself, the same mysterious overseers note his ties have been severed and that he's ready.
  • First-Name Basis: While they refer to all the other KND operatives by their identification numbers, Rachel and Nigel are on a first-name basis with each other. This is used to enforce that there is something more to their relationship.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite it being widely disliked by the non-science operatives, Numbuh 362 remarks that Doctor Space Time and the Continuums is awesome.
  • If I Can't Have You…: Numbuh 1 insists that he could never be with the treehouse computer and that it's Lizzie he loves. The computer accepts this before declaring this trope, grabbing both him and Lizzie, and activating its self-destruct.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Nigel reassures Lizzie that he’ll be back in time for the wedding reception by telling her he’s not going far. The next scene then shows him arriving at the Moon Base.
  • Implied Love Interest: Rachel for Nigel. It's never made explicitly clear what exactly is going on between them, but this episode made it clear there was something there.
  • Interrupted Declaration of Love: While dancing with her at the wedding reception, Nigel tells Lizzie that whenever he puts his life on the line during missions, all he can think about is her. But just when he’s about to say that he loves her, he gets a call on his communicator.
  • Irony: Numbuh 1 finally recognizes what his real priorities are, only for Lizzie to break up with him.
  • Logic Bomb: The treehouse computer insists that Numbuh 1 is logically the perfect boyfriend. Lizzie responds by listing her assorted grievances against Nigel (such as him forgetting her birthday and avoiding being affectionate). The computer struggles to process these apparent contradictions, allowing Numbuh 1 to free himself and Lizzie before the self-destruct occurs.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Lizzie mistakenly believes that Nigel is cheating on her with Rachel — in reality, they're on a mission.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: The self-aware computer declares its love for Numbuh 1 and says Lizzie is obsolete.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: The computer feels perfectly compatible with Numbuh 1, saying they're both devoted to the KND and have no hair.
  • Red Herring: For most of the episode, Nigel and Rachel are under the impression that Numbuh 65.3/Herbie is a member of the Splinter Cell, due to stealing a candy sweater. As it turned out, Herbie was trying to sneak the sweater in as contraband to the fat camp his parents forcibly enrolled him in.
  • Ship Tease: It is greatly implied that Rachel has romantic feelings for Nigel, but he's unable to reciprocate them at the end due to having just broken up with Lizzie.
  • Single Tear: The episode ends with a tear rolling down Nigel’s face after his breakup with Lizzie.
  • Skewed Priorities: Numbuh 1 gets urgently called up to the Moon Base, interrupting his date with Lizzie, not for an important mission, but because they’re having meatball sandwiches for lunch.
Numbuh 1: You had me come all the way up here for a meatball sandwich?!
  • Spit Take: Nigel spits out the lemonade he was casually sipping when Herbie tells him to say hi to Lizzie and he realizes that he’s late for her sister’s wedding.
    • He does it again later, spitting out his meatball sandwich, when Numbuh 362 reminds him of the reception he was supposed to be attending.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: When told he has to leave the reception for a mission, Numbuh 1 winces because he knows how badly Lizzie will react.
  • Wedding Bells... for Someone Else: With Nigel in a tux and Lizzie in a white dress, it fully looks like the two are getting married - especially when Lizzie is enraged at Nigel for leaving her at the altar. However, Lizzie then clarifies for the audience that she can’t believe he left her at the altar of her sister’s wedding, as he was supposed to be her date.
  • Wham Episode: Nigel and Lizzie break up, and it's revealed that it was engineered so Nigel would no longer have any ties to Earth.
  • Wham Line: "The computer did excellent work for us."
  • Woman Scorned: Lizzie is scary when she thinks anyone is going to hurt her precious Nigey, but even more so when she thinks her precious Nigey is going to hurt her by cheating on her.
