Recap / Big Hero 6 The Series S 2 E 22 Major Blast

Go To

A new villain, Major Blast, appears in the city and targets Fred.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: GoGo identifies this as Fred's weakness; he gets so easily distracted, even by his own train of thought, that he can't focus on fighting.
  • Badass Family: It turns out the Fredericksons are this with the reveal that Mrs. Frederickson used a super suit.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Major Blast first attacks Fred at his mansion, he is saved by Heathcliff in the chameleon suit.
  • Continuity Nod: Heathcliff uses the Chameleon suit from "Big Roommates 2" to save Fred from Major Blast in the courtyard.
  • Flat "What": Fred's reaction to Major Blast saying, "Frederick, I am your mother."
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Subtle hints to Major Blast's identity are planted early on, such as not being in Boss Awesome's villain data file (because they're not a real villain), Heathcliff being aware of them, and Major Blast knowing where Fred lives.
    • Hiro asks Fred if Fred's dad ever talked about Major Blast, and Fred says his dad's parties were legendary. As we saw in "Fred's Bro-Tillion," the parties in their house are organized by Mrs. Frederickson.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father:
Major Blast: Frederick, I am your mother.
  • Malicious Misnaming: GoGo calls Major Blast "Major Pain."
  • Ninja Prop: Whenever Fred starts talking about his comics and images of them appear on screen, GoGo physically pushes them aside.
  • Older Than They Look: Mrs. Frederickson looks surprisingly youthful considering she was an adult nearly 60 years before the present time.
  • The Password Is Always "Swordfish": The password to Boss Awesome's secret compartment is "Classic," his catchphrase.
  • Pinned to the Ground: When Fred panics over Major Blast's challenge and starts rolling around on the ground, Gogo uses her foot to pin him down to stop him from rolling around and declares that she will train him.
  • The Reveal: Major Blast was actually Mrs. Frederickson. She first used the identity as a training aid for Boss Awesome, and brought it back from retirement to help her son.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Major Blast is, in fact, Mrs. Frederickson, using a voice modulator.
  • Saying Too Much: Rodney says this after he reveals to the team that he created a secret panel behind Boss Awesome's computer.
  • Secret-Keeper: Mrs. Fredrickson also knows Fred is part of Big Hero 6, and she knows their identities too.
  • Training Montage: Used and invoked but subverted in that it was all a very long Imagine Spot by Fred.
  • The Un-Reveal: When Hiro, Honey, and Wasabi open Boss Awesome's file about Major Blast, we only see their surprised faces. Then again, they probably discovered Major Blast's identity.
  • Virtual Training Simulation: Rodney created one for the team, complete with Rodney himself telling the fighter when they've lost.
  • What Are Records?: The file on Major Blast is on the most advanced storage system available at the time — a floppy disc. Hiro says he's never seen one up close, and when they find it, Honey says she thought it would be floppier.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Fred thinks his training by GoGo will be like how it goes in martial arts movies. GoGo makes it clear that's not happening.
