The team searches for Poison Ivy.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Murder: Mary reflexively uses a vine to throw away a hunter that is brandishing a gun. When Alice comes looking later, she finds his body impaled on a high branch. Given it was the middle of the night and she had just been shot with a tranq dart, Mary might not even be aware the man is dead.
  • Acquired Poison Immunity: Montoya has rendered herself immune to Poison Ivy's pheromones by slowly building up a tolerance to a similar toxin over years, having suspected Poison Ivy wouldn't be above controlling her to get her way.
  • Blunt "Yes":
Sophie: I admit I royally screwed up with Renee: sleeping with her, trusting her, defending her, everything. Seriously, my bad, all right?
    Ryan: Yep.
  • The Bus Came Back: John Diggle returns once more.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The little box with the glowing green object in it now won't open anymore, and Luke cannot help John with it. He theorizes that it is probably connected to something other than science.
    • Alice, trying to dissuade Mary from going to meet Pamela, cites the fate of Beth Kane as an example of why "a world with two of a kind never ends well".
  • Disproportionate Retribution: At the beginning of the episode, Pamela kills two fishermen who were gutting fish caught in a catch-and-release stream.
  • Genre Savvy: When Poison Ivy is tracked to Gotham National Park, Sophie lampshades that black people going into the woods usually die. Ryan says those movies weren't written by black people and intends to flip the script.
  • Homefield Advantage: Sophie is understandably wary of hunting Poison Ivy in the middle of a national park, and is proven right when the sheer amount of nature makes Poison Ivy unstoppable, allowing her to fight without ever once needing to approach the heroes directly.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Twice.
  • Improperly Paranoid: Alice suspects that Poison Ivy has ill intentions for Mary, believing that Poison Ivy won't allow another like herself to exist. When the pair meet up, it seems as if Poison Ivy is draining Mary to heal herself, but the process doesn't seem to harm Mary at all and Pamela's reaction to Mary is positive.
  • Internal Reveal: With Diggle's help, Jada breaks into City Hall and finds the Joker's joy buzzer Renee kept hidden.
  • It's All My Fault: Luke blames himself for constantly failing the team and getting them into trouble.
  • It's Not You, It's My Enemies: How Jada justifies keeping Ryan away to Diggle. The latter encourages her to just let her guard down on this one, as it might turn out to be a good thing despite her fears.
  • Kick the Morality Pet: Used by both Poison Ivies.
    • Pamela paralyzes Renee when she tries to convince her to let go of her plans.
    • Mary puts Alice to sleep so she won't interfere with her trying to find Pamela.
  • MacGyvering: Luke uses salt and vinegar to combat Pamela's vines.
  • Old Friend: John Diggle and Jada Jet know each other from the past. It's implied that they actually used to be more than just friends.
  • Opposites Attract: Mary points out close she and Alice became despite their history, as they both finally found the sister they always wanted.
  • Psychic Nosebleed: Pamela experiences one after using her power too much while not being at full strength yet.
  • "Shut Up" Kiss: Sophie gives Ryan one.
  • Talking to the Dead: Twice:
    • First at the beginning of the episode, where Ryan talks at the grave of her adoptive mom, pondering how to get the strength that drove her.
    • At the end, Luke talks at the grave of his dad, acknowledging that he still loves and misses him, but understanding that he cannot keep trying to live up to his expectations anymore, having to walk his own path.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Ryan and Sophie have a hard time working together during the first half of the episode, before eventually clearing the air.
  • Title Drop: By Alice, talking to Mary about Pamela.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Sophie calls out Ryan for constantly treating her like crap.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Downplayed. The only reason the heroes aren't killed is because Poison Ivy is still weak from the desiccation serum, which keeps her from outright rushing the heroes with an unstoppable onslaught. Ivy only returns to full strength when she meets up with Mary, whose similar biology allows Ivy to recover.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Amusingly combined with Passive Aggressive Combat, as Ryan and Sophie try to cheer Luke up after blaming himself by bringing up the respective failures of the other party.
