Oliver agrees to help Lyla break John out of prison but Felicity and the team worry it's too risky.

  • 10-Minute Retirement: Rory temporarily resigns from the team because looking at Felicity reminds him of the destruction of Havenrock.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: Church's crew does this twice. First, they trick the SCPD into carrying a bomb inside their evidence locker and use it to blow open a hole in the wall, allowing them to rush in and rob the place of its heavy weaponry. Later, they use said weaponry to attack the Anti-Crime Unit's bunker in order to rescue one of their members.
  • The Chains of Commanding: The team is forced to leave Wild Dog to Tobias Church.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Wild Dog, Artemis, and Mr. Terrific try to stop Ollie from leaving town and breaking out John. He beats them all in short order. Mr. Terrific gets one when he goes solo against the thief at Kord Industries and Wild Dog gets one from Charon's brass knuckles.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Wild Dog gets in a few good hits against Church, but is still soundly defeated.
  • Distressed Dude: During the closing scene, Rene is being violently tortured by Church and his men, with the team planning to rescue him.
  • Hollywood Acid: Oliver steals an "anti-molecular compound" from Palmer Tech. He later uses it dissolve a way out of Diggle's cell.
  • Hypocrite: Once again, Felicity whines to Oliver not to lie to her, despite the fact that she is still lying to her current boyfriend.
  • Insistent Terminology: Felicity really doesn't like Rene calling her "blondie".
  • In the Back: Curtis gets a knife thrown in his back while escaping from the bunker. He survives, but is still recovering from his injuries by the episode's end.
  • Logging onto the Fourth Wall: In a flashback, a Russian criminal gives Oliver the IP address of a Dark Web site used for nefarious purposes: 108.166.7.161. Entering this into a Web browser will take you to the CW's homepage.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Averted with Rory in regards to Felicity. He doesn't hold a grudge towards her, he is just constantly, painfully reminded of his home whenever he sees her.
  • My Greatest Failure:
    • Felicity still has massive guilt issues over destroying Havenrock and is sure to carry on that guilt until she dies.
    • John still holds himself responsible not only for Andy's death, but also for Laurel's, as he blindly trusted his brother.
  • Neck Snap: Flashback Oliver does this to a man on order from the Bratva.
  • Negated Moment of Awesome: First it seems like the recruits are finally able to kick some major ass by working together.....then Curtis gets a knife in his back and Rene gets abducted by Tobias Church.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: When Oliver decides to break into a Military prison, Wild Dog calls him out on being no less headstrong than himself.
  • Stone Wall: This episode really highlights how invulnerable Ragman is, he spends the entire episode helping Team Arrow and the police by soaking a bomb blast and countless number of bullets. Not once did he get a chance to use his rag tentacles to fight.
  • Title Drop: Done courtesy of Oliver.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Instead of calling in the indestructible Ragman, Wild Dog goes for a fist fight with Church who's got brass knuckles on. Church takes him down in seconds and has Wild Dog strung to be tortured and potentially executed.
  • Trojan Horse: Church lets one of his people get caught stealing a computer processor from Kord Industries. Said processor has been rigged with a bomb, and when it's brought into evidence storage, Church has it set off.
  • Villain Protagonist: Though he has regrets over it, Flashback Oliver gives off this vibe, given how he threatens the family of a man for interrogation, and snaps the same guy's neck after getting the wanted intel.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Felicity scolds Oliver for just deciding to break John out of prison even though he doesn't want to.
  • Willfully Weak: The team finds out the hard way that Oliver's actually been holding back in training, when he fights them for real, he whips their asses.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: The new recruits try to do this to Oliver. They quickly regret it.
