Go To

The sixty-second episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Throbbin Screech brings a TV crew to interview Robotnik for his talk show "Lifestyles of the Sick and Twisted". Robotnik rampages through the Mobius countryside to prove he belongs on the program, keeping Sonic busy with rescues.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Screech wears a red bow tie, while his niece wears a pink bow in her hair.
  • Accidental Misnaming: Screech calls Scratch and Grounder Ratchet and Pounder, and Scratch has to correct him.
  • Alliterative Name: Bart the Barfy Bumblebee from his titular Show Within a Show.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Throbbin Screech wastes no time in taking the piss out of Robotnik every chance he gets. Case in point is when Robotnik turns up on the set wearing a Dodgy Toupee.
Screech: Ooh! Did you know how have a dead cat on your head?
Robotnik: I look fantastic and you know it!
  • Firehouse Dalmatian: The first picture to appear in the intro of "Lifestyles of the Very Good" has a Dalmatian wearing a fireman's hat while carrying a kitten in his mouth, standing next to Throbbin Screech.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In a clip Screech shows on Lifestyles of the Very Good, Scratch and Grounder use catapults with boulders to try to stop Sonic. Sonic dodges the boulders, resulting in them hitting Scratch and Grounder.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Robotnik is shown to sing terribly in this episode, which is ironic considering that his voice actor was the late Long John Baldry, a professional blues singer.
  • I Have Your Wife: In order to get on Lifestyles of the Very Good, Robotnik kidnaps host Throbbin' Screech's niece and threatens to drop her in lava. Screech acquiesces, although not without some consideration.
  • I Lied: Sonic surrenders to Robotnik in exchange for freeing Tails and Screech's niece. The moment the handcuffs are on, though, Robotnik immediately reneges on the deal and keeps all three of them locked up.
  • Iris Out: This episode ends on one, where Screech's niece blows a raspberry into it, Robotnik says "I hate that hedgehog!" and Sonic says "The only good thing about Robotnik's singing is...". After it closes, THE END appears onscreen.
  • Irony: Heckuba, the make-up person Sonic gets is very ugly. She's even aware of this, saying she hears it all the time.
  • Last Request: Sonic surrenders to Robotnik in exchange for releasing Tails and Screech's Niece, only for Robotnik to change his mind and imprison all three. Robotnik asks Sonic if he has a last request, and Sonic requests a good make-up person, because if he's going out on national TV, he wants to look his best. Heckuba, the make-up person he gets, is also a locksmith, and disguises Sonic as herself and vice-versa to trick Robotnik.
  • Mobile Fishbowl: Sonic gives the fish who live in the lake that Robotnik evaporates fishbowls filled with water to wear on their heads until he can refill the lake.
  • Mythology Gag: Tails calls Robotnik "Eggman" when he reveals that Sonic rescued him.
  • Nephewism: Screech has a niece, and some dialogue from the latter implies that Screech's sister is her mother.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Throbbin Screech is a parody of the late Robin Leach, the host of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, which is parodied in this episode.
  • Show Within a Show: Lifestyles of the Very Good, which later becomes Lifestyles of the Sick and Twisted when Robotnik takes over. To a lesser extent, Bart the Barfy Bumblebee.
  • Stuck in the Doorway: Happens to Scratch and Grounder early in the episode when they both try to give Robotnik a letter from Screech. They remain there for a day, and Robotnik pushes them out the next morning.
  • Tailfin Walking: The fish who live in the lake that Robotnik evaporates stand on their tail fins.
  • Talk Show Appearance: In this episode, Robotnik is outraged when he sees Sonic appear on Lifestyles of the Very Good, so he captures Screech's niece so he can take total control of the show, making him the star and renaming it Lifestyles of the Sick and Twisted.
  • Talking with Signs: The fish who live in the lake that Robotnik evaporates hold up signs that say, "HELP" (one of which says "KELP") after their home is evaporated dry by Robotnik.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Screech's niece wears a pink bow in her hair.
  • Tickle Torture: After Sonic foils Robotnik's plan at the end of the episode, he tickles Robotnik with a feather to get him to say "Sonic is my hero."
  • Would Hurt a Child: Robotnik captures Screech's niece and threatens to dunk her into his lava pit if Screech doesn't let him on Lifestyles of the Very Good.
