    • Manfried from all the way back in episode 1 makes a reappearance.
    • Maja's attic includes a portrait of the real ghost from "The Creeps".
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode has Bubblegum and Marcelline as protagonists, with Finn and Jake getting knocked out by sleeping gas in the first scene.

  • I'll Kill You!: Marceline says this to the Crabbit, though it shuts the door her before she could do it.
  • Knockout Gas: Bubblegum installs this in a Gumball Guardian which puts everyone but Cinnamon Bun to sleep, explaining why Finn and Jake aren't in the episode much.

  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Explored with Marceline (Red) and Bubblegum (Blue), with the former being forceful and hotheaded and the latter being passive and logical.
  • Sequel Hook: Maja gloats about getting hold of PB's emotion-imbued rock T-shirt, boasts about "something big" this will allow her to do, and shows how evil she is and how bad that will probably be by subjecting her helpless familiar to Electric Torture for fun.

  • Sherlock Scan: Bubblegum is shown to have this ability.
  • Ship Tease: A lot between PB and Marcy.
    • An interesting note is that in this episode, it is PB who is showing her feelings (to the audience at least) for Marceline. Whereas in "What Was Missing" it was the other way around.
  • Shout-Out:
    • According to Word of God, Marcelline's underwear-as-outerwear costume in this episode is a Shout Out to American Apparel advertisements.
    • When trying to persuade the others that they can resist the sleeping gas at the beginning, PB quotes "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" by Dylan Thomas.
  • Treacherous Spirit Chase: Maja tries to lure Marcelline into a death trap with a illusion of a living Hambo.
  • Voice of the Legion: Maja has this as a natural speaking voice.
