Narm / Jessica Jones (2015)

  • Many sex scenes are, in an effort to keep the show PG-13, filmed in a very awkward and unsexy manner. It's especially bad when Jessica or her partner have lifeless expressions during the uh, climax of activity.
  • The show awkwardly avoids referencing the Avengers by name, presumably because bringing them up directly would clash with the Darker and Edgier tone, so we get stuff like "the big green guy" and "the flag waver." Making it worse is that the series was released shortly after Supergirl attracted similar derision over its reluctance to refer to Superman by name in its pilot. Plus, the similarly dark Daredevil had no problem mentioning Cap by name (Foggy saying "I could call myself Captain America, doesn't put wings on my head"). This was thankfully dropped for Season 2, with Oscar's son Vido having a Captain America toy (though out of context, all references to Captain America are phrased in such a way that they could be construed as referring to him as a fictional character).
  • Kilgrave orders a man to put a pair of gardening shears in his mouth and fall forward, forcing the shears through the back of his skull. Horrific? Yes. Then Jessica checks his pulse despite the fact he has metal shears sticking out the back of his head. That could be a case of Reality Is Unrealistic, given people have horrifically survived suicide attempts using firearms with a chunk of the back of their head missing.
  • When Kilgrave claims that he has never killed anyone, Jessica delivers the very silly, comic book-ish line "You use your powers to compel murder!" with a totally straight face.
  • Everything about the scene with the Whizzer. Besides the obvious snarking his name provides, there's the reveal of his powers (prompting Jessica's immortal response of "Jesus, you are fast"), his Super-Speed effects that look like they're from a Syfy Channel Original Movie, and his comical death of being crushed by debris he should've easily outrun.
  • Inez Green's "nickname" given to her by a fellow homeless man in the camp was Meanez Mean.
  • One of Jessica's abilities is a limited form of flight/super jumping. This is represented by Jessica bending her knees and then cutting away to a "whoosh" sound effect. Due to the relatively low budget of the series, it's understandable that they can't show Jessica in full flight, but the absolute minimal effort put into these scenes looks even sillier than the latest seasons of Lois & Clark, in which Superman pretended to launch into flight by swinging his cape and moving to the side of the camera. At least in those scenes, people next to him had the habit of looking up when Superman did that.
  • When Jessica finally realizes that Kilgrave can’t control her anymore, she has flashbacks to the moments that prove this. This would have been legitimately epic if not for the heavy slow-motion effects used during the sequence, which end up just making Kilgrave sound like he’s severely inebriated. “Lettttt goooooo oooooof meeeeee, Jessiiiiicaaaaa!”, “Getttt baaaaack heeeeereeee, Jesiiiicaaa!”, and “NOOOOOOOOWWWWWW, JESSIIIIIIIIICAAAAAAAA!” make these flashbacks too goofy-sounding to take seriously.
