It may be a game about murder mysteries, but Master Detective Archives: Rain Code still manages to have moments that melt your hearts.
- Yuma and Halara's relationship through Chapter 1, though the Mystery Labyrinth events were forgotten after and the aftermath of it all is rather difficult for Yuma.
- The very first thing Halara does is show up to save Yuma just as he's about to get attacked for interfering with the Peacekeepers, though this is only after going missing and Yuma failing to find them. Even though Halara tries to push away their intentions by instantly telling him off for getting involved, with the term "a reckless sense of justice", they only do it to warn him not to do it again for Yuma's sake, showing that they do care for him as a teammate.
- After Halara tells Yuma to visit the cafe, where they are, with him also begging them to help, Halara seems to be willing to do the case as long as the payment is promised, and has the moral standards to not force the payment out of Yuma. After, Halara immediately starts to contribute to the investigation, having retrieved information about the past Nail Man cases in advance while at the cafe, showing that, despite the various conflicts, Halara wants to help Yuma solve the case.
- When asked to hold hands for Yuma's Coalescence ability, Halara instantly tries to reject his request by spitefully saying that they "hate" him and all people in general and hate the idea of holding hands with him. Despite that, Halara decides to push through anyway, albeit with hesitance, and holds hands with Yuma regardless. In the process of doing so, Halara also shows admiration for Yuma's Coalescence, seemingly amazed that he already has a Forte on him... though they ignore his pleas that it isn't his power.
- After investigating the art gallery, Halara tells Yuma that he has only has to call for Halara, and they will come to his aid, when necessary. Halara shows that this was the truth, and when Yuma is about to get captured by the Peacekeepers, he calls Halara's name out... and they proceed to kick down the Peacekeepers with no effort whatsoever, just to save Yuma, even if it enrages the onlooking Seth afterwards. After Halara saves Yuma, they tell him in an assuring tone that what Halara declared to him before wasn't a lie, and it's exactly what they said they would do.
- Because of the memory nuances in the Mystery Labyrinth (time stops when memories begin and end), Halara doesn't remember the Accidental Hug that occurred between themselves and Yuma. However, the case itself Halara remembers, and for that, they do affectionately recognize that Yuma made an effort to solve the Nail Man case, in spite of the culprit's death. Well, that is, before Yuma gets scolded by Yakou for investigating the case in the first place, anyway.
- Aside from the one moment when he devalues Yuma's role as a detective at the beginning of Chapter 2, Yuma and Desuhiko have a surprisingly compatible friendship with one another. It is notable that, during their interactions, Desuhiko actually sees Yuma as an equal individual and doesn't really judge him for much (though considering Desuhiko's own questionable personality, judgment would come off more as Hypocritical Heartwarming) beyond his standards for what counts as a detective, which is unlike Halara, of whom Desuhiko is Vitriolic Best Buds with. As well as this, unlike Fubuki and Vivia, he actually shows he cares what Yuma thinks about certain things, as opposed to only attempting to do so, making their connection with one another seem more genuine.
- Related to this, at the end of the Chapter 2 Mystery Labyrinth, after the GOD Shinigami sequence where the girls’ connection and motive is revealed, Desuhiko sees how badly the truth of the case is affecting Yuma and offers to do the Deduction Denouement for him. It’s not accompanied by any grandiose declaration of being a star, or any perverted comments about Shinigami - it’s a genuine offer from a friend to a friend, made from worry and a desire to help.
- In Chapter 2, the reveal that all three suspects were not only working together, but consider themselves to be close friends despite all seeming very different. Their Mystery Phantoms even applaud themselves for putting up a good performance at the end, and it really shows how much they cared about their friend Aiko.
- After spending much of Chapter 3 at odds, Fubuki apologizes to Shinigami for misjudging her, then says she now adores her and wishes to be friends. It’s sincere enough to actually catch Shinigami off guard, who returns Fubuki’s handshake while blushing and remarking that Fubuki’s just going to forget about her anyway.
- After the group has escaped from Guillaume and Dominic at the end of Chapter 3, Yuma begins to doubt himself again at the fact that he killed another case’s culprit by using the Mystery Labyrinth. Kurumi, who didn’t tag along and couldn’t possibly know what happened, sees how down he’s feeling and assures Yuma that he’s doing the right thing and she will continue to trust him. It’s a nice reminder that there are still some people that will always be in Yuma’s corner.
- Halara's unrelenting insistence on defending the agency (and Kurumi) from Yomi and the Peacekeepers at the end of Chapter 3 by neutralizing them, even telling the others to protect one another in case it goes wrong. Due to their pride, they know they can take them down easily, even with the intense situation, and just want to be given a chance for the safety of their friends. Considering Yomi's power over Halara, however, it equates to some degree of self-sacrifice, even if it's not obvious. Chapter 4 has Halara finally go up against Yomi personally, and as it's shown, it would've indeed been too much for Halara to handle.
- In Chapter 4, Halara ends up being the most benevolent team member after recovering from the secret lab raid. Once they find Yakou Furio dying from what is believed to be a stab wound from the hitman (though Halara either knows that it's not due to the wound and is in denial for the sake of the rest of the agency, or is completely oblivious which would be Out of Character with Halara's general understanding of things anyway), they make the most effort to tend to him and attempt to revive him after hiding in one of the facility's rooms, even if, in hindsight, it's a hopeless situation anyway. Halara even ends up feeling guilty over being unable to revive him with CPR after Yuma and Vivia return from investigating Dr. Huesca's critical lab, declaring in grief that they couldn't save the chief and remaining silent after doing so, whilst the other detectives wail over the sudden turn of events.
- When the time comes to reap the soul of Chapter 4's culprit, Shinigami does her usual song and dance, firing a heart at Yakou... only for the heart to zoom past him. Instead, Shinigami pulls him into a hug, having grown to care for him like Yuma has. Yakou sheds some Manly Tears before his soul vanishes.
- In chapter 5, Yuma and Shinigami jump into the labyrinth's portal together instead of Shinigami chucking him and another detective into it.
- Shinigami's Rousing Speech when Yuma has hit his lowest point, culminating in her giving him a tender hug as she assures him that even if he can't do this alone he can rely on her to be there for him.
- For all the wrong he did, Makoto's actions come from a deep sense of empathy toward the other homunculi. As he puts it, just like himself, none of them asked to be made, and if he doesn't protect them then who will?
- In the epilogue, the citizens of Kanai Ward have learned the truth and largely made peace with both their bodies and the rain that was protecting them the whole time. They've even turned it into a greeting: "good rain to you". The city is also no longer isolated, and they no longer have to resort to cannibalism thanks to the real Yuma's ramen.
