Funny / Bang Brave Bang Bravern!

Go To

What happens when you put together a loud, boisterous Super Robot, a Not So Stoic Ace Pilot and his rival, a very clingy Womanchild, an entire assorted cast of military-themed characters and an enemy force completely out of a Super Robot anime in a Real Robot setting?

Why, tons of Hot-Blooded comedy, that's for sure!

Episode 1 – "Wait's Over, Isami!"
  • Isami's reactions after getting into Bravern is downright funny considering the first half of the episode has him being very calm and collected. When he first gets into the cockpit, every little thing seems to frighten him, from the controls appearing to Bravern shouting not to pull one particular lever just yet. The cherry on top is him shifting to a confused yet Hot-Blooded Suddenly Shouting demeanor, complete with an over-the-top, yet still-not-quite-sure Calling Your Attacks to arguably the best moment in the episode, him being absolutely flabbergasted at the Theme Music Power-Up which is shown to be coming from Bravern as the theme song is muffled inside the cockpit.
Isami: Where the hell is that song coming from?!
  • Isami and Bravern's interaction at the end of the episode where Bravern introduces himself after Isami asks how he knows his name. To add to the scene's humor, Isami is drooling and snot-nosed from the whole ordeal.
Isami: Why do you know my name…?
Bravern: Ah right, I haven't told you my name yet, haven't I?
Isami: No, not that. Why do you know my–
    Bravern: My name is… Bravern!

Episode 2 – "Isami! You'll Be Here Soon, Won't You, Isami!?"

  • The episode sees the surviving higher-ups figuring out what to do - with Bravern standing right outside a hole in the building. Then, after revealing who their enemy is, he proceeds to regale them with the tale of how he and Isami met. At length. By the time we cut back to the group, all of them are clearly wishing for someone to end their suffering.
    • How Bravern words said tale is another matter - from what little we hear, one would be forgiven for thinking that Bravern's describing a yaoi novel rather than an actual account of events.
  • The fact that, in a Freeze-Frame Bonus, you can actually see the Bravern Logo in the background after Bravern transforms, implying it's not just a cool transformation but he's actually displaying his logo.
  • In a heartwarming moment, Lewis asks to pilot Bravern in Isami's place, and dramatic music starts to play... Only for Bravern to say that he can't do it and it must be Isami.
  • After Bravern and Isami finish off Superbia, Isami is feeling tired, exhausted from all the torture and piloting... Only for all his clothes to disappear for no reason. By the end of the episode, he's still naked, tired, and curled up in a Troubled Fetal Position in Bravern's cockpit, completely mindbroken by the day's events.

Episode 3 – "Lulu… That's Her Name."

  • The surviving soldiers in the Hickam Air Force Base conduct drills. Bravern's the one who leads them, despite not being in any official position of leadership.
    • Then the next operation takes place underwater, making the entire training montage useless.
  • Lewis accidentally walks in on the girls changing. He looked very tired from running all day, so he didn't react.
    • Hibiki gets angry at this and says Lewis should react to the girls changing.
  • The girls in the JSDF visit Bravern to speak to Isami and they ask if the cockpit has a built-in toilet. Bravern refuses to comment.
  • Bravern agreeing to fight again causes Isami to start yelling at him, accompanied with him randomly kicking parts of the cockpit and repeatedly yanking on the lever Bravern told him not to touch.
  • Bravern fights underwater for the first time. He tries shouting one of his attack names… and is left gurgling from the water coming into his mouth.
    • The giant robot then puts a face plate on over his mouth so he can... breathe?!?
  • Lewis Smith comes back to find Lulu not having a pulse, which is not funny. But when he tries to revive her with CPR, he yells, "COME ON! COME ON!", which causes the couple one floor below, who are having sex, only hearing Lewis banging and yelling "COME ON!" to comment on how the upstairs neighbor is really going at it, only for them to basically go, "Well, we're doing that too, so we have no right to comment."
  • Bravern finishes the fight by striking a cool pose... but the explosion behind him has different ideas. Instead of giving us the same cool result from the past two episodes, he's too close and gets sent flying by the blast.
  • At the end of the episode, Smith just barely manages to subdue a berserk Lulu. Only thing is, he's shirtless and crouching over her, and she's stark naked. And then Bravern crashes into the motel…
Isami: Smith, you…! I bust my ass out there and what do I find you doing?!
Bravern: Hm… It appears he was getting up close and personal with her.

Episode 4 - "Isami, It Seems You Still Have Much To Learn About People."

  • The higher-ups are in the middle of discussing what to do about the rest of the Deathdrives. Of course, in the middle of this Bravern interrupts, as per usual. King's expression must be seen to be believed.
  • Isami and Smith have a bit of a falling out over Lulu, resulting in the girl losing her temper and punching Isami hard enough to activate the airbags on his new pilot suit. Afterwards, Isami angrily stalks off, though the dramatic exit is skewered by the two deflated bags trailing behind him.
  • The chefs decide to serve Japanese curry for lunch. It's apparently so good that the American soldiers nearly end up starting a riot because the cooks weren't allowing seconds.
  • Lulu in general, this episode.
    • The events of the previous episode have resulted in Isami constantly giving Smith the cold shoulder. This eventually leads to Lulu giving an impromptu test of his new suit's airbags via punching him in the face and into a wall.
    • The only two words she knows are "Lulu" and "Smith." This results in her calling everyone she sees, including herself at one point, by "Smith."
    • Craib tries to interrogate her to see what her connection is to the Deathdrives - keyword being tries. Not only does it fail due to her only knowing two words, he doesn't even get the chance to waterboard her because she drank all the water.
    • Lulu gets hungry, so Smith decides to give her some of his curry, leading to her grabbing the entire plate and excitedly eating it with her hands like a five-year-old. Smith then remembers all-too-late that Nina told him that her digestive system was underdeveloped, with... expected results. This also earns him a dressing-down from Nina for forgetting.
  • Isami mentioned that he would bring weiners to Smith and everyone after having a party with the people he and Bravern saved, cue Bravern having said weiners hanging from his head crest on the after-party.
    • Isami also got treated one drink per person, including the bartender, so it's no wonder he came out drunk out of that party, with Bravern (with weiners still on his head) claiming he was his designated driver.

Episode 5 – "That's One Thing That's Beyond My Powers"

  • The entirety of the boxing match between Isami and Smith.
    • And what's Bravern's secret weapon during the match? A Bravern-sized boom mic!
  • In the next-episode preview, Isami takes issue with how long episode titles (namely the one below) are in Bravern.

Episode 6 – "Everything Will Be Okay. For I… I Am Bravern!"

  • Smith's poleaxed reaction to finding out that Lulu's hitched a ride on his Titanostrider.
    Smith: Oh, shit!
  • Bravern showing his usual exuberance when introducing himself to the personnel in Japan.
    • Complimenting this is Admiral King's resigned sigh that just says "Here we go again…"
    • This is followed by Major Todo asking how Bravern managed his successes in Hawaii. Cue "Chapter 2" of the Yaoi Novel-style exposition.
      Adm. King: Goddamn…
  • Superbia is back, and seems eager to pick up where he left off, but is talking in an alien language, so Bravern does… something to get him to talk in human languages. The first we hear of him?
Superbia: The hell d'ya think you're doing, shitface?!
    Smith: Was that…
    Hibiki: …Japanese?
Sherry: Sounded like a Texas accent to me.
Akira: Nah, that was totally a Hiroshima accent.
Bravern: I made it so that all the good kids of the world can hear him in their own language.
Isami: If you had time to do that, you could have finished him off!
  • Immediately after this, Bravern seems offended that Superbia doesn't remember his name.
Bravern: I did that awesome hot-blooded intro scene and you forgot my name?!
    • Bravern follows this up by shouting his name and doing a pose… in front of a hologram of the Bravern logo.

Episode 7 – "Well, Isami? What Would You Do in a Situation Like This?"

  • The implication that Bravern has a glorified man cave in one of the Carriers is inherently hilarious, never mind having a 3D printer for him to create not only his weapons, but full-scale models of the titanstriders.
  • A clearly desperate Bob Craib tries to waterboard a "captured" Superbia. It goes about as well as you'd expect.
  • Bravern repeatedly killing Cupridas mid sentence each time after he respawns. Cupridas eventually loses his cool and gets pissed off at Bravern just cutting him down instead of killing him in a huge ass explosion.
  • Smith unloads his entire gun magazine at Superbia and then throwing the gun at him when he runs out of bullets.
  • Superbia having a BSOD moment when he learns Lulu is able to speak and move by herself, completely with him slumping down and asking Smith for a time out so he can process the whole thing.
  • Bravern conversing with Isami about Smith, telling him things about who Smith is, with the most notable one about how Smith gets full body waxes. Isami is understandably surprised and perplexed at hearing that part.
  • Bravern uses Build Burn to make parts for model kits, all with them held in model kit runners so he can snip em out again with Bravern side snips.

Episode 9 - "Isami! We Must Save the World Together!"

  • The entire Fridge Logic idea that everything Bravern did up to that point is mainly Smith just ad-libbing what he remembers.
  • Superbia is shocked in The Stinger when Lulu says that she'll ride him.

Episode 11 - "Commence Operation Bonfire!"

  • The Ho Yay between Bravern and Isami during their time in Hawaii.
  • Segnities not being able to fight Superbia since it doesn't have any other fighting skills aside from intimidation.
