Fridge Brilliance

  • During "Loose Lips", as Ratigan goes over each of his victims and how he plans to keep them silent, he noticeably skips over Flug. Considering that Flug has both blackmail on him as well as ties to the criminal underworld, Ratigan most likely didn't do anything out of fear that if he tried to silence Flug, he'd ensure that the information was released.
  • Crocker undergoing Adaptational Heroism makes sense when realize that him becoming a villain was tied moreso to the way his series worked then his backstory-either Timmy or Cosmo revealed his Fairy Godparents, causing Jorgen to mind wipe him. Without the magic, none of that could happen and so Crocker doesn't have the motivation to turn into a villain in the first place.
  • Part of the reason Mr. Wolf agrees to become a prison snitch was to protect the other members of the gang, who he believes would end up being victimized. While the reasons for Snake and Webs are revealed in story (age and being a trans woman respectively), Shark and Piranha's are not. However, considering that Piranha is most likely Hispanic, considering how he speaks Spanish and Shark is most likely black and considering how we've seen minorities be treated in prison before, Wolf was right to worry for them as well.
  • If Angel Dust treated the idea of redeeming himself like a joke in canon, why does he appear to be taking it seriously here? Because he's not in Hell. He's not in the ultimate punishment for someone where the idea of redeeming yourself is considered a laughable pipe dream. He's still on Earth, where criminals and drug addicts can actually turn their lives around. So he believes rehabilitation is possible because he hasn't died yet and gone to Hell.

Fridge Horror

Just because the entire fic is based on a rape recovery group doesn’t mean there aren’t some implications that won’t fly over your head until later.
  • The title comes from the poem "The Haunted Palace", in which the description is about lips and teeth, but think about what else it can apply to in this context. Pearl and ruby. White and red. Semen and blood.
  • Lampwick dying is horrifying enough on it’s own, but then you take into account that Pleasure Island has probably been running for awhile and you realize that there’s no way he was the only one. Confirmed later when Marzel and Huckleberry appear.
  • Kuzco’s chapter reveals that he had to run away from the warehouse he’d been kept in, and that he spent a few weeks in the hospital after he ran. Connecting the dots makes you realize he couldn’t have gotten far…
  • Panchito’s chapter mentions that 45 cultists were caught in the arrest. But then you realize he had 53 attackers and realize that eight of them are still out there.
    • In-Universe, not only do the eight have yet to be caught, but we know for a fact that there are at least three other victims that have been reported since Panchito got most of them arrested.
    • And it gets even worse…Panchito mentions that they assigned him a number in the 30’s. We currently have a total of 5 cult victims who have had their stories told, but that means that at least 25 other victims have yet to be identified and those are just the ones before Panchito managed to get them all arrested. And we know the cult has no problem killing people…
  • In Bugs' chapter it's mentioned that Daffy keeps getting arrested and has repeatedly left the station with bruises, and Bugs won't talk about it. In Daffy's chapter, it's confirmed police brutality is taking place, but Daffy's trauma-induced amnesia means he forgets anything happened, even though Bugs clearly noticed - and, as confirmed in the Cell Block Tango chapter, ended up getting directly involved.
  • While we can't be sure of what order all of Ratigan's assaults occurred in, we can infer that Cornelius was groomed several years before Riley...and we can also see just why Riley didn't realize what was going on until the assault occurred because Ratigan not only was just as subtle with Cornelius but clearly had practice even at that point. It's shiver-inducing to imagine someone so charismatic that you don't realize what he wants to do with you until he's in the middle of doing it.
  • Darla is such a good actress that she's convinced the whole world, including everyone at the Palace, that Danny raped her. This includes Bugs, who was the victim of a similar plot but because the apparent "villain" is an adult, he apparently never spares a thought that he could be a confused and innocent patsy of a child sociopath.
    • There's also the fact that it's implied (and pretty much confirmed by one of the authors in the comments of the chapter) that Darla used her hairbrush to replicate the injuries of said rape upon herself, which showed just how far Darla was willing to go to frame Danny.
  • Some of the younger characters are stuck on whether to report their assaults or not, because of Exact Words; adults told them to report a man touching them strangely, but not a woman or another child. Pinocchio didn't realise what was wrong because he thought if a doctor did it, it was okay. This is a trap real kids can easily fall into, if adults aren't careful with their warnings.
  • With Hiccup's chapter, we are presented with the horrifying realization that some of the cult's intended targets, selected to be punished for not being straight, might actually be cases of Mistaken for Gay since Hiccup was assaulted not for pursuing men (it's all but stated that Astrid is the first person he's been interested in) but for acting in a way that was interpreted as him preferring men. And there's another possibly worse interpretation of this: the cult isn't going after their targets for not being heterosexual; they're going after them simply because they don't fit neatly in the cult's tiny boxes about what's "appropriate/correct".
    • Later compounded with Ruffnut's story. She was assaulted by GWF for "unfeminine behavior"...which turned out to be them not realizing she had a twin brother until after they had attacked her!
  • Chicken Little's story isn't the only one to bring up the idea of an assailant who gets away with their actions because of their reputation but it does raise another uncomfortable truth. Even if the person you accuse is revealed to be the kind of person you accused them of being, people still might think you're a liar who randomly accused the right person.
  • Rocky uncovering Daffy's therapist's sexual deviancy and inappropriate behavior with his patients literally only happened because he knew "Foggy" had been changed to "Rocky" and that the kid was using that as his name. If he had managed to avoid that reveal, he would have continued to get away with abusing Daffy and probably would have gotten away with doing the same to Rocky, who doesn't realize there's anything wrong with the "business" he fell into.
    • Look closely, and you'll note said therapist is the same one Mercury went to after his ordeal and Muffy was sent to see after finding DW, too...
  • Holes was a Disney movie, and Timmy refers to Ricky being sent to Green Lake. Look back at the Honey Bees' chapter for a good idea of what's going on there.
  • With Hector's story, it's been revealed that God's Will First considers being raped to be "sinning" and thus worthy of being tortured and possibly killed. This means that every single character who was raped by Ratigan or other males could be a potential target of the cult.
    • A part 4 chapter confirms this: GWF went after Riley because Ratigan let the cult know about them, along with Wallace and Gromit.
    • Not even just them. Premarital sex of any gender combination is a sin, too.
  • And with Wendy's chapter, apparently asexuality is a "sin" as God's Will First went after Merida both for her unladylike behavior and her asexuality.
  • With The Reveal of how deep corruption runs in the police force in this world, it's entirely the cops who dismissed Noah's case weren't doing it because they didn't believe him; rather they were doing it because they outright didn't care if Ratigan had his "fun".
    • Especially as it's mentioned Ratigan has worked with the police before...
    • Likewise, it's pretty likely that God's Will First probably got as far as they did not just due to no one believing the victims that were lucky enough to escape, but also due to some in law enforcement being on their side and helping them cover up their rapes and murders (and the fic does mention that there's been complications on getting the case against GWF followed through, and that GWF does have connections in high places...)
  • And it's very likely that the Ark also has its fingers in the police to cover up their trafficking.
  • God's Will First is confirmed to not care about the age of the victims and subscribe to racial purity (as the fact that Sam/Kate were a mixed-race couple is the reason the former was targeted).
  • Mr. Ratburn was treated as a pedophile for the actions of Ricky, as he had recommended the teenager as Buster's tutor, ultimately assaulted by the fathers of several of his students. And while one of them suffered what could be called an attack of conscience and turned himself and his fellows in, he outright states that he wouldn't have done that if his wife hadn't heard from Bitzy what really happened, something that is Truth in Television more than any of us would like.
  • With Mako ending up with HIV after being gang-raped in prison, it brings up the possibility of other characters like Bagheera and Danny having the disease (and not just HIV, but also other STDs).
  • Vanellope doesn't know if she was left alone because she was special or because Candy didn't like her, but if you look closely, he looks away from her when she suffers a spasm. The implication here is that he only didn't molest her because he didn't like her disability.
  • Throughout Part Three there have been mentions of various characters disappearing (Pinkie Pie, Robin Hood, Basil, Woody, Pyrrha...) Where did they go?
    • Note that with Robin and possibly Pyrrha, it's heavily implied that they were taken by those working for the Ark (the former since he was followed out of Vixy's drugstore by a woman with a butterfly tattoo, which the side fic In Harm's Way: The Ring's Victims confirms that a certain Fairy Godmother goes by Miss Butterfly; and the latter since the last person who has seen her is Ratigan, who has been confirmed to work for the Ark).
      • Pinkie, Robin, and Basil are later confirmed to be with the Ark. Pyrrha was kidnapped by Ratigan for his own use; he let her hormone replacement therapy wear off, raped her when she looked more like a boy, then fed her body to his pet lioness.
  • As of part three it can be assumed that someone is dead. That's horrifying enough on its own, but real Fridge Horror comes from the implications of that. One, this is probably a group member (or group members) so at least one of the previous characters is dead, but what about the others? It's entirely possible that more characters will be killed off in the future if the story slides into Anyone Can Die.
    • Confirmed with a Part 4 chapter: Nuka was murdered by GWF.
  • If Noah hadn't lost his keys, it's outright confirmed that he would have died. Ratigan slipped red meat (which he is allergic to) into his food and Noah's plan, had he not lost said keys, was to go straight into his room and lock the door behind him. No one would have found him.
  • Billy's house originally went to his grandparents before the Wrights got it from them. Considering that he seems to have a decent relationship with his family (excluding his parents) it can be assumed that their relationship must have been fairly close. So either he was rescued from years of captivity only to find out that beloved family members had died or... he found out while still held prisoner, either from the news or Madame X.
  • Comments are made occasionally about Calisota having an unusually high sex crime rate, but going by commonly-accepted real-life statistics of one in four women and one in six men? A few hundred in a large city isn't out of the ordinary. Calisota's occurrences tend to be a lot more dramatic than in real life, but not necessarily more common.
  • Certain characters who we know had something happen to them or have appeared in the Palace such as Shaggy and Jyn Erso still have yet to fully tell their stories on screen. Just what happened to them?
  • "Cops' Daily Life" has a segment with an officer picking up a disheveled Jenny Jergens' and brushing her off when she starts to say something about her school after apparently running away. It's not clear what she's been through, but given the nature of the series...
    "They'll kill me!"
  • The Ark officially has a spy in the Palace searching for escapees, namely Amelia. This does not bode well for characters who did escape...
  • Bill has custody over Pacifica. It's already implied that he's going to continue to gaslight her, but who's to say he won't do worse...
    • Not only that, but the scratching and half-word in the final fragment confirms he has another person locked up to be tortured and eventually killed.
  • One of the largest reasons that children often become delinquents or turn to crime is due to Abusive Parents. Considering what we learn about Duncan's parents in part four, it's implied the reason he became a delinquent was out of spite towards his two cop parents.
  • While the how good the cops actually were at their jobs had been questioned ever since the series began, Cuphead and Mugman's story shows just how bad things really are. To wit, the duo was tried as adults for a rather minor crime and thrown into an adult prison and when Cuphead kept acting out, the guards locked him up with known child abusers. Was Judge Hopkins really that respected? Or did the cops really care so little that they were willing to let a child get abused all because he was fighting his (very unjust) punishment?
    • And again, this is sadly Truth in Television.
    • This could also be racially motivated. Since Cuphead and Mugman are Black, this would be the reason Judge Hopkins tries them as adults.
    • Lapis mentions being tried as an adult and incarcerated in an adult facility when she was eleven. She would have been in female prison as opposed to male, but it still raises some unsettling questions. Presumably her Asian/Muslim heritage influenced the trial negatively.
  • The Druun here are a horrible, sometimes fatal, STI. A number of characters contract it in the Ashura special. Including Noi. An infant. How did she get sick?
  • Wendy was mistaken for Merida, but let go because they realized they made a mistake. However, it's been revealed that Wendy in canon is actually bisexual. Considering that GWF members were willing to turn in their own family for not being straight, would the cult have picked her up again once they figured out that she actually was a "sinner"?
  • The newspaper article about Mayor Bulloney's abuse of Cowlorado mentions that the mayor has been arrested for "Sex With Underaged Boy", not "Child Molestation". The newspaper's target audience think the gay part is worse than the child part.
  • With the reveal of what Haggard was doing to people with Cluster B disorders, Mirabel was very lucky she was sent to Doctor Hooves instead of him.
