Bitter, depressed goth girl Rachel is mourning her mom's death due to cancer. She gets dumped by her boyfriend, and finds herself sharing a house with her dad's new employee Amy while he goes on a business trip. They hit it off, and become friendly. Before long, they grow into more, and start up a relationship. However, things left unsaid may come between them...

Examples:

  • Ambiguously Bi: Rachel was dating Jason, but doesn't seem to have been happy with him even before he dumps her. It may be she just hadn't realized she's a lesbian, or wasn't into him specifically too much. Even prior to her relationship with Amy, she's shown masturbating while watching lesbian porn. Amy similarly says that she's been with men and also uses her sexual wiles on them to get things, but she'd never known love until Rachel, which makes her sexuality equally ambiguous. Neither one ever states an opinion on the matter.
  • Closet Key: Invoked almost by name with Amy; when getting matching tattoos of lockets and keys, Amy refers to Rachel (who is implied to at least be bi) saying: "She's my key!"
  • Goth: Rachel starts out with this style, wearing black eyeshadow and largely black leather clothes. She's also got the pale skin that's stereotypical, plus a depressed, bitter attitude at first. It's revealed she took up the style after her mom's death, as home videos from before it show her with a more standard look.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Amy has long hair and very feminine clothing. She's also into women, getting into a relationship with Rachel (who's at least bisexual, possibly a lesbian, as it's left ambiguous).
  • Masculine–Feminine Gay Couple: Tomboyish goth girl Rachel gets in a relationship with the very feminine Amy.
  • Masturbation Means Sexual Frustration: A depressed Rachel masturbates on the couch while watching lesbian porn, which Amy sees, after she recently broke up with her boyfriend. This is the first hint that both she and the audience get that Rachel isn't straight, which Rachel may have been repressing before getting involved with Amy.
  • Missing Mom: Rachel's mom died of cancer quite suddenly, and she's still devastated by her loss. It turned her into a much more unhappy person, taking up goth styles in reflecting that.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Amy is quite attractive and gets several partially nude scenes, at first in the shower from behind, then while having sex with Rachel. To a lesser extent Rachel as well, from the same sex scenes. However, it stays PG 13 since their genitals or nipples are never shown.
  • Queer Romance: Rachel, a teenager recently dumped by her boyfriend, gets involved with Amy, her dad's house guest.
  • The Reveal: Amy slept with Rachel's dad before the two met. Rachel's disgusted and breaks up with her.
  • Sex for Services: Amy indicates that she only slept with Rachel's dad to get hired.
  • Shower of Love: Rachel and Amy have sex in the shower, as the camera focuses on Rachel's naked backside.
  • Shower Scene: Amy is seen naked from the back early on while taking a shower.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: At first it looks like Amy and Rachel are done. Then after the latter initially breaks up with her, she meets Amy again later. They kiss and proclaim their love for each other.
  • Toplessness from the Back: Amy is seen topless from behind when undressing and taking a shower.
  • Two-Person Pool Party: Rachel and Amy have sex in the hot tub, where Jason finds them.
