Rat is a 2000 comedy film directed by Steve Barron (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990), Coneheads), starring Pete Postlethwaite and Imelda Staunton.

The film focuses on a man named Hubert Flynn, who returns home from work one day as a rat. It is partly based on the Franz Kafka novella The Metamorphosis.

Rat provides examples of the following:

  • The Film of the Book: While the connection to the Kafka work is more inspirational than adaptational, the influence is there; the trope name is also directly mentioned in dialogue when a journalist sells the Flynn family on cooperating with his reportage by conjuring visions of film adaptations (and further book adaptations from there!).
