Tattered Capes Under a Shattered Moon is an ongoing RWBY and Worm crossover by TheHatterOfMad. It can be found at SpaceBattles.com or here at Archive of Our Own.

After Gold Morning, Dragon and Defiant find themselves stranded on Remnant with no way back. Finding their way to the nearby kingdom of Atlas, they make a terrifying discovery: this world may be hosting Entities of its own, giving the people parahuman powers the locals call "Aura". Hoping to learn the truth and save this world from what theirs suffered, the two enroll as Huntsmen in order to learn as much as they can and get to the bottom of the mystery.

This work of fanfiction contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Dragon and Defiant receive unlocked Auras on top of their Tinker abilities, making them even stronger and tougher than they were in canon.
  • An Arm and a Leg: The story covers the accident where Ironwood lost his right arm and leg to a malfunctioning Paladin.
  • Bifurcated Weapon: Alabaster's Burning Edict is a flamethrower rifle that splits into two machetes, both of which can shoot from the handles.
  • Change the Uncomfortable Subject: Colin puts in a valiant effort to move the conversation away from Lillie's estranged grandfather, but all he comes up with is asking if they passed the combat trials they all won.
  • Crossover Power Acquisition: Dragon and Defiant gain Aura on top of their existing Tinker powers. Notably, it eases their desire to Tinker and keeps their internal Tinkertech maintained the same way it can heal minor wounds.
  • Dramatic Irony: After learning that their weapons don't have names, Al groans that Dragon and Colin are robots... and he's half right.
  • Flawed Prototype: Colin's tinker power comes up with a slew of flaws with Watt’s prototype paladin, such as its vulnerable antenna and its poor fuel delivery system.
  • Friendly Address Privileges: Alabaster asks Colin to call him "Al" after apologizing for being hostile.
  • Fun with Acronyms. Colin and Dragon (As Tess Richter) are teamed up with Lillie Coldwater and Alabaster Blackburn to form team CBLT, or Cobalt.
  • Horrible Housing: Since Dragon and Colin have no money besides what they got from selling their diamonds, they have to stay in a small, dark, apartment next to a train track.
  • An Ice Person: Lillie's Semblance lets her freeze water in her vicinity and then control it.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Watts yells out "Aha! I’ve got it!" while trying to get the Paladin under control. It immediately explodes, seemingly taking him with it.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon:
    • Al's weapon, Burning Edict, is a flamethrower and grenade launcher that can split into two machetes that shoot from the hilts.
    • Colin and Dragon face off against Winter Schnee and her teammate Eisenbarth, whose weapon shifts between a club, a tower shield, and a rotary gun.
  • Named Weapons: Al takes Remnant's tradition of naming weapons seriously and dislikes that Burning Edict is the only named weapon on the team.
  • Non-Answer: After Lillie asks about how his weapon teleported, Colin explains that it was "a little technique [he] picked up".
  • Obligatory Earpiece Touch: Watts makes a show of touching his to cut Pietro off and leave the conversation.
  • Perspective Flip: The story starts with Defiant's perspective of the end of Worm's Teneral epilogue 3, instead of Pandora's and Dragon's.
  • Sword and Gun: Lillie cycles through her revolvers with one hand and uses an ice axe with the other.
  • Trapped in Another World: After Gold Morning Dragon and Defiant crashed on Remnant, with the portal that brought them there damaged beyond their ability to repair.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: The way that both Aura and Parahuman abilities are gained after the user is under stress leads Colin to fear that Remnant is being experimented on by another Entity.
  • Trenchcoat Warfare: Lillie, instead of reloading, keeps fourteen revolvers inside her coat to switch them out when one runs out of ammo.
