Fanfic / Megas of Mars

Go To

Megas of Mars is a Megas XLR/Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans crossover by Warmachine 375.

Several weeks after the events of The Dimensional War against his evil counterpart, Coop decided to give his friends Jamie and Kiva their mechs and go for a test run to Mars. Just like his old one, his new Megas had a dimensional portal which the trio ends up in another dimension where they see that Mars is colonized before finding themselves caught in the middle of conflict.

Can be read here, here and here.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • In Megas XLR show, Jamie is The Load who often hangs around next to Coop. Here, he is the pilot of the repurposed R.E.C.R. mech with its reprogrammed A.I. as his Haro companion. In Chapter 3, he is able to hold his own against Coop pushing back Megas and trading powerful blows with him in a sparring match.
    • Gundam Barbatos is set up to be this as Coop used Hashmal's remains after crushing its head earlier to upgrade the recently reactivated Gundam Frame into its Lupus Rex form.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Using the remains of Hashmal he had dispatched, Coop upgraded Barbatos from its First Form straight up to Barbatos Lupus Rex.
  • Appropriated Appellation: Kiva gives out the name "Megas Force" when claiming to Crank Zent and Tekkadan that they were a mercenary force. Jamie finds that it has a nice ring to it, and Coop reluctantly conceded.
  • Adaptational Wimp: In contrast to the rampaging genocide machine it is in canon, Hashmal is dispatched by Coop within minutes of waking up.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Hashmal suffers an unceremonious end by Coop just when it had awakened from its 300 year long slumber and was about to rampage on Mars. Only for Megas to grab its head and crush it. Now Coop used Hashmal's remains to upgrade Gundam Barbatos.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: The Alaya-Vijnana users in Tekkadan assume that Kiva Andru is similarly like them due to her Earth Coalition implants that allow her to control her personal mech, the CMDR-KA, and the group of remote controlled mechs.
    • On the other hand, Fumitan Admoss suspects Kiva Andru to be either a Gjallarhorn undercover agent or a runaway test subject of an experimental Alaya-Vijnana project.
  • Heel–Face Brainwashing: This applies to the A.I. of R.E.C.R. (Reverse Engineered Collective Robot) when it was transferred into the Haro as a companion and partner of Jamie who pilots the R.E.C.R.'s body as his mech.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Jamie's surname is revealed to be Vashti.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: The blonde male officers under Carta Issue's command express this when Evil Coop meets her and she was enamored with him due to being blonde, strong and handsome.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Biscuit Griffon suggests that they should ask Megas Force to use their portal system to get them to Earth without problems. But Orga Itsuka refuses, stating not only that Tekkadan had to do it themselves and not rely too much on Coop's generosity after he helped upgrading their forces, Gjallarhorn would take notice and try to seize the technology that can send their troops anywhere in the Solar System within short notice.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Jamie's surname Vashti is from Mobile Suit Gundam 00, shared with Ian Vashti and his family.
    • "Nope, none of that. Shame on you.", said by Coop after he quickly dispatched Hashmal is from Dragon Ball Z Abridged.
    • There are some of this from Mulan:
      • When Orga Itsuka stated that it's time to let's get down to business, Jamie cheekily asks if it's "to defeat the Huns".
      • "I'm gonna hit you so hard it will make your ancestors dizzy!", said by Jamie during a sparring practice with Coop in their respective mechs .
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Crank Zent became the new head of Gjallarhorn Mars Branch after Coral Conrad was killed by a stray missile of Coop, and didn't have to die in a duel with Mikazuki.
  • Tempting Fate: Coral Conrad was impatient from waiting after giving Crank Zent orders to wipe out Tekkadan and take Kudelia Aina Bernstein, complaining that he's gonna explode. Cue to the missile hitting the Gjallarhorn Mars Branch's space station where he's at.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Sgt. Haro may look cute and adorable... except its voice was that of a stereotypical '50s military man, courtesy of the reprogrammed R.E.C.R.'s A.I. as lampshaded by Jamie.
