Galactic Buddies is a fanfiction based on the 2008 video game Spore and is written by NekoIsopods. The story involves a shaman-archetype Aegiri captain named Ezra, who has gone into a conflict with an opposing empire that is similar to the Grox. After the war, Ezra returned to their home planet to take a break. A day later, Ezra suddenly sees a mysterious spaceship landing on their planet, where they meet Odin, who's an ecologist-archetype Ymirei captain who is fond of nature and is also autistic. Ezra and Odin started to become friends/buddies with each other and hung out. (until Ezra wanted Odin to "spice some things up" during the night). The following day, Ezra and Odin are now boyfriends as they continued to chat and hang with each other and later tried whenever they wanted to ally with the Grox.

- Aerith and Bob: There are some characters like Ezra and Odin, who both had normal human-sounding names. Others, like Flobip and Nyaborg, have names that are considered weird.
- Alien Blood: Downplayed, as Ezra has blood that is an orange-red tone. But played straight with Odin, who has magenta blood.
- Aliens Speaking English: All the characters seem to speak perfect English. Averted with Nyaborg, however, because she can communicate only in meows like a normal cat.
- Animal Lover: One of Odin's special interests
- Billions of Buttons: Ezra's flight deck is described as having "lots of controllers and buttons that Captain Ezra may find helpful for later."
- Big Bad: Both the Tailed Grox Captain (who is later named Magnus) and the (Common) Grox (with one being named Atlas) are possibly considered the villains of the fanfiction
- Flower Mouth: Ezra’s species obviously have this kind of mouth.
- Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: In Ezra's causal outfit, he is seen wearing a dress shirt, a sweater vest, and a necktie but no pants. The same goes for Odin's causal outfit, which consisted of a black hoodie and nothing else. Also applies to Ezra and Odin's captain outfits.
- Human Furniture Is a Pain in the Tail: Since the Aegiri tends to be over three meters long, their space (furniture, vehicles, buildings) needs to be slightly twice as large as human spaces.
- Intelligent Gerbil: Ezra's species, the Aegiri, resembles mammalian versions of earth theropods with wings
- Interspecies Friendship: Ezra (an Aegiri) and Odin (a Ymirei) tend to be in this relationship as they first met.
- Mix-and-Match Critters: Odin's species, the Ymirei, looks like a cross between a Tullimonstrum and a feathered dinosaur (specifically an Oviraptor).
- Nice Guy: Ezra is usually considered this unless if provoked.
- Nobody Poops: Subverted, as Ezra is described as going to the bathroom to do his duty in both chapters 1 and 2.
- Non-Human Non-Binary: According to the
Word of God, Ezra is non-binary and goes by they/he pronouns. He is obviously an Aegiri. (winged theropod-like aliens) - No Name Given: The Tailed Grox Captain doesn’t have a revealed name in chapter 1, but later subverted in chapter 2, his name is revealed as Magnus. But played straight with the female Aegiri cashier.
- One-Note Cook: Ezra is only good at preparing instant food. (especially instant noodles)
- Original Character: The main characters, Ezra and Odin. (and some other characters as well.)
- Parental Abandonment: Both Ezra and Odin's parents are dead due to armed conflicts in war and murder when they're young.
- Prehistoric Animal Analogue: The Pseudoanomalocaris, as seen in the nature documentary that Ezra and Odin were watching, resembles Anomalocaris from Cambrian era Earth.
- Stargazing Scene: In chapter 2, Ezra and Odin watched the starry night. Ezra also pointed out that one of the star patterns looked like Beannote and talked about it to Odin.
- Suspiciously Similar Substitute: The Tailed Grox Empire looked similar to The (Common) Grox. But the difference between the two is that the Tailed Grox species are taller than the Grox, have longer fur/hair, and belong to the zealot archetype while the (common) Grox are shorter and don't belong to any archetype.
