The Protagonist and his companions

The following pages contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

    The Protagonist
The Protagonist is a 38 year-old Japanese man who was accidentally dragged into a hero summoning. When the hero summoning process went wrong, he was dropped deep into a cursed forest, left to fend for himself.
  • Accidental Hero: Many, many times.
    • The protagonist inadvertently frees a bunch of slaves by breaking the spell binding their wills, when he cast a spell freeing every living being in the forest from having their minds controlled by the evil eye curse.
    • By breaking the curse over the entire forest, he ends up breaking the magic stone used to cast the curse in the first place. This also breaks the age-slowing spell keeping King Emperus in power, allowing a new king, who then changes the kingdom for the better.
    • He inadvertently saves the forest whilst cleaning up the curses when making the forest a nicer place to live for him and his animal companions.
    • The magic constantly overflowing from the protagonist's body helps restore the powers of his animal companions, whilst also helping heal the forest.
      • The side effect of this is that it gradually heals the cursed animals in the forest that he had not yet encountered, saving their lives.
      • The protective nature of his magic and its similarity to divine power, saved the world from being destroyed due to the core running out of divine power. The protective nature of his powers, and their similarity to divine power allowed it to replace the divine power in the core, allowing it to continue to operate smoothly, when the core would have run out of divine power, destroying the world 6 months after the protagonist arrived.
    • While cleaning up the forest to remove a mind-altering spell, he saves the king of a nearby kingdom who was also affected.
    • Whilst delirious, Akira uses magic that seals off the magic stone creating the evil eye curse, preventing it from cursing the forest from that point on.
      • That act has the side effect of gradually purifying the magic stone, eventually freeing it from the seal that allowed it to be forced to curse the forest in the first place.
    • His attempt at purifying the whole planet inadvertently destroys cursed swords that were going to be used to commit a coup, stopping it before it starts.
    • The upgraded replacement barriers Akira put around each of the Kingdoms after the previous ones were damaged has the side effect of blocking out people with hostile intent towards the kingdoms, saving at least one kingdom from rebellions and coups, by stopping the perpetrators from re-entering the country.
    • By changing the nature of darkness magic power, and accidentally adding it to the repertoire of magic powers that was flooding into the world from his body, he inadvertently saves the lives of his companions when they drink sake from the demon world, which is infused with it, which would normally be poisonous to them. They got drunk instead.
    • His wish to protect the Cerberus egg the Cerberus pup within from being attacked by the forces of the world, allowing the pup's mother to arrive safely to retrieve her pup from a world, when it would normally be poisonous to both of them.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: The Protagonist might as well be a walking example of the trope:
    • He is able to cast magic by drawing purely from his imagination, without the incantations and rituals that other humans need to use to perform magic. According to Leader, that method of performing magic, although effective, breaks the "common sense" of the world.
    • Much of the magic that he does is on a comparatively ridiculous power and scale, and parts of it are completely subconscious, without him being aware of it. In Chapter 6 of the Manga, it's revealed that the barrier Akira erected to protect his home in Chapter 3 is large enough that none of the prior Kings of the Forest could maintain it for any reasonable amount of time.
    • Throwing around the vast amounts of magic he coincidentally did saved his life, since Akira's body was not used to mana, and the vast amounts bestowed by the hero's gift (let alone 5) would have killed a normal human before their bodies were able to adjust to it.
    • Some of the things that he does are normally considered impossible. It happens often enough that his companions start developing the phrase "as expected of your/his lordship" in response to him doing something impossible. Some such things are:
      • Him having far more active golems than even the most powerful mages. The most that a powerful mage can operate is 3, and he has somewhere close to the double-digits in terms of active golems. Not only that, but they have sapience and can operate independently, something not normally possible for golems.
      • The protagonist is able to freely manipulate orichalcum and mithril, ores that are famously dense in magic, and therefore difficult to magically manipulate.
      • His creating a new form of power, simply because he didn't have anything that could work with divine power, resulting in something that is similar, but lacks the hostile characteristics of it.
    • By saving their lives, and providing them sanctuary, Akira brings together the dragons and the Kings of the Forest, and has them live together in peace, something that was impossible before he arrived.
    • Whilst delirious from heat-stroke/magic buildup, he activated an unprecedentedly massive magic spell that not only saved his life, but stopped the Envelas Empire from being able to strengthen the evil eye curse further by sealing off the magic stone producing the curse.
    • He single-handedly saves the forest from the centuries-old Evil Eye curse that brought it to the brink of destruction, restores it to its former glory (and beyond), and destroys the unique magic stone that allowed it to be cast in the first place, preventing it from happening in future. All without being aware of any of it. At least not until much later.
    • He is able to subconsciously activate/deactivate portions of the Hero's gifts that he was bestowed with, significantly reducing the downsides that come with them, letting him retain his identity, remembering his name as Tennou Akira, and have the enhanced abilities, without the brainwashing that would normally be part of the package.
    • He fundamentally altered the nature of some forms of power within his world, simply by changing his perspective of it, an act that is normally beyond that of most gods, even the king of the demon world.
    • By constantly purifying the curses around the core of the planet, the protagonist ends up befriending them, allowing him to acknowledge their existence. Proving the vague nature of the curse was not thought to be possible before him, and befriending them allows them to return the favour by saving both the planet and his life later.
    • The protagonist constantly leaking his power into the world, saves it from being destroyed when the core would have otherwise run out of the power needed to keep going. Doing so also causes the core of the planet to follow his will, something unprecedented.
    • Because his powers are neutral and protective, it allows both evil gods and gods to coexist in the same space, allowing information from the God World, and the Demon World to be easily shared, when it would have otherwise been much more difficult.
  • Ambiguously Human: After everything he's gone through, no-one's really sure what Akira is, since his existence is unprecedented. The only thing for sure is that God Fio, the god of time, believes that he'll live for at least 2000 years.
  • All-Loving Hero: The only times that the protagonist gets particularly angry is when innocents are being harmed. Otherwise, he tries to help everyone as long as they don't cause trouble for him and his companions, whether they be cursed, or escaping from evil gods.
  • Giver of Lame Names: The protagonist is terrible at naming things. His Fenrir, Dire Wolf, and Garm companions are named based on the colour of their fur. His anferuminote  companion is named Shurinote . His dragon companions are named Fluffy, Flying Lizard, Marshmallow, Fluff Ballnote , and Light Blue (who was light blue). He's aware enough of his poor naming sense that he spends more time thinking of what he would names he would give the Cerberus pup, since Hikari would roll his eyes at him otherwise.
  • The Heart: He's the one who brought his companions to live together peacefully, when they would have previously fought with each other, and been unable to tolerate each other's presence. He will happily protect anyone who asks, as long as they don't cause problems for him or his companions, and takes a mostly pacifistic stance, with the exception of monsters or those that harm the innocent, such as slavers.
  • Humble Hero: The Protagonist isn't aware that he saved the forest. He was just casting magic as he felt like, and is a little embarrassed that he is credited with doing so. He's notably uncomfortable when the inhabitants of the new world start calling him "the god of the forest" as a result.
  • Interspecies Friendship: The protagonist has made friends with the various animals that became his companions, a divine magic stone, various gods, some beastkin, various evil gods, a cerberus, and the curses surrounding the planet's core.
  • I Thought Everyone Could Do That:
  • Name Amnesia: Owing to the hero's gifts that he received when he was summoned, the protagonist forgets his name. He is only able to remember it later after being made aware of the fact that his memory of his name was suppressed, and with some effort.
  • The Nameless: The protagonist is not given a name, nor is he addressed with one. It is hidden as a result of it being erased due to the hero's gifts. He later recalls his name as "Akira Tennou" when he manages to break through the brainwashing.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The protagonist is usually an All-Loving Hero, and known for being nice and kind. As such, the few times that he is genuinely angry (such as when it comes to the mistreatment of innocents), familiar with him are genuinely shocked.
  • Running Gag: Being a Japanese everyman before he was summoned, the protagonist is shorter and less muscular than most of the other humanoids in the world he lives in, being often described as appearing "small and weak". He is constantly envious of the more muscular builds the natives in the new world have.
  • Summon Every Man Hero: Before he was summoned to another world, the protagonist was just a regular Japanese citizen. As a result of his summoning, he gained the hero's gifts, which bestowed him enhanced physical prowess, and the ability to use magic.

The Companions

The Kings of the Forest

The Kings of the Forest are legendary beings that reside within the forest, feared and often worshipped for their power.
    General
  • Interspecies Friendship: The Kings of the Forest are all friends with each other, despite being from vastly different species.
  • Olympus Mons: The Kings of the Forest are all powerful legendary creatures that reside within the forest, but the dragons within are the most powerful among them, being divine beasts second only to protagonist, or the gods themselves.
  • Race-Name Basis: Before they were given names by the protagonist, the kings of the forest would address each other either with their titles, or by their species.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Most of the Kings of the Forest have been around for a very long time, with some of them capable of remembering what the forest was like before the forest was cursed, centuries ago.
  • Sizeshifter: The kings of the forest are able to change their size at will, with the only limitations being that a larger form costs more power to maintain.
    Koa, King of the Fenrirs
Koa is the first friend that the protagonist makes after being dropped into the new world. She is leader of the Fenrirs.
  • Canis Major: As a Fenrir, Koa is a large white canine with a long, flowing tail, and at her normal size, is about the size of a horse.
  • Horse of a Different Color: Since she is capable of running faster than the protagonist, she will happily let him ride on her back if she needs to go somewhere quickly.
  • Interspecies Romance: She is happily mated to Chai, a dire wolf. They have numerous hybrid children.
  • Sore Loser: Koa hates to lose. When one of her children was able to learn magic that she was not yet able to lose, the protagonist remarked that she would spend the rest of the day trying to master the same magic.
Chai, King of the Dire Wolves
Chai is one of the members of Koa's pack that the protagonist befriends, after he makes friends with Chai. He is the leader of the dire wolves.
  • Canis Major: As a dire wolf, Chai is a large brown canine, and at his normal size, is about the size of a horse.
  • Interspecies Romance: He is happily mated to Koa, a fenrir. They have numerous children together.
  • My Greatest Failure: One of Chai's greatest regrets is that he was not able to protect the other dire wolves from the effects of the evil eye curse, at one point no longer considering himself as the king of the dire wolves because of it.
  • Running Gag: Chai often has a habit of having insects end up on him for one reason or another.
