* BerserkButton- For Adante, any intrusion into his mind by magic. It will cause him to enter HeroicSafeMode of the TranquilFury kind, and he will [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill not stop until the threat stops moving.]] He regards mind-readers as the ultimate threat if they do so without consent, and will feel nothing but rage and the will to annihilate said threat if he is the target.
* BlueBlood - Adante's father was a first generation noble, being given the rank for valor in war. Adante is the first ''born'' noble of his family.
* BoisterousBruiser - Vin, to the point of sometimes being TheBerserker. Obviously, his main strategy is to AttackAttackAttack Nevermind his own injuries.
* DarkAndTroubledPast - This is partly the result of growing up in a world that does not recognize Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and being forced through something that is essentially MindRape. Also, his parents died and [[spoiler: he's left with the [[RedRightHand taint]] of [[BlackMagic dark magick]] that causes him a lot of problems.]] He has recurring {{FlashbackNightmare}}s.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest - Both of Adante's parents were assassinated.
* [[DefrostingTheIceQueen Defrosting The Ice King]] - [[LoveIsAWeakness Assuming]] the woman could get that far. He’s a pretty straight-played male BrokenBird who doesn't trust easily and avoids love like the plague. (He could be considered TroubledButCute, but he’s not really a bad boy, so it’s not an exact fit.)
* DesignatedParents - If put in charge of a younger group, though Adante and Vin would probably frown on being such. Vin especially is a FriendToAllChildren.
* FascinatingEyebrow- Adante has a habit of lifting an eyebrow, especially towards Vin.
* GentlemanSnarker - Adante has an exceedingly dry wit.
* HandsomeLech - Vin's considered this by many women in his hometown, but he's really a ChivalrousPervert.
* InternalizedCategorism - Vin has internalized many of the stigmas placed on him, seeing himself as fundamentally inferior. He deals with this by putting up a front of indifference and [[{{Determinator}} striving to prove himself despite his stigmas]] as being the best of the best.
* ItsAllMyFault - Adante has a borderline GuiltComplex, borderline only in that he only blames himself if he was actually ''involved.''
* KnightInSourArmor - Adante’s more logical and intellectual than Vin, but he also more cynical.
* LadykillerInLove- Vin is truly in love with Merai. So, despite his flirtatiousness, he would never seriously consider another woman. This has not stopped her from dumping him for his flirtatiousness with other women.
* MilitaryAcademy - Adante and Vin entered together and graduated in the same year, even though Vin is a year older.
* NiceGuy - for all his flaws, Vin's a pretty nice guy. But [[BewareTheNiceOnes don't]] think you can treat him any way you want to.
* ObfuscatingStupidity - Vin's not book-smart, and he and pretty much everyone else knows that. He doesn't care too much about learning the ''facts''. But Vin is actually nowhere near as dumb as he sometimes acts.
* OfficerAndAGentleman - Played mostly straight, though Adante subverts this in some ways. He cusses, not heavily but on occasion. He will be CombatPragmatist when the situation calls for it. Of course, if his opponent will fight fair, then he’d be all too willing to [[LetsFightLikeGentlemen fight like a gentleman]] as he has a distaste for [[TryingToCatchMeFightingDirty fighting dirty]], but he knows when not allow honor to overshadow something more important.
* PluckyComicRelief - In reality, Vin’s more of a SadClown who puts on a [[StepfordSmiler brave face]] to cope with his insecurities.
* PoisonousFriend - Adante can become this (although it's not worshipful.) He'd do the DirtyBusiness to spare his friends from having to. If he's [[WhatTheHellHero called out on it]] he'll tell them and himself IDidWhatIHadToDo, though he may internally ask himself MyGodWhatHaveIDone.
* RaisedByNatives - As Vin is obviously of [[FantasticRacism foreign]] ancestry in a country where some consider his particular ethnicity, Satevidan, to be bad, it is possible his [[ParentalAbandonment parents left him]] because they believed that it would [[GiveHimANormalLife spare him from living as a foreigner]]. If so, it was ill thought-out plan, perhaps due to CultureClash, as in Isbetean culture, being a Whitecrest (a person with no family history and therfore no family crest) is almost as bad as being a foreigner. Even as an adult, he still has people who look down on him for his ancestry.
* RedOniBlueOni - Vin being red and Adante being blue.
* ScarfOfAsskicking - Vin has one of these, befitting of his berserker-like tactics. It was given to him by his on-and-off girlfriend, Merai.
* ShellShockedVeteran - Adante's father, and Adante to a lesser extent. Adante always wanted to [[TurnOutLikeHisFather be like his dad]] and it seems to be happening.
* SugarAndIcePersonality - He’s not quite ''shy'', but tends not to talk too much unless he feels it’s necessary, because he feels he comes across as socially awkward.
* TeamDad - Adante, when placed as a protector of a younger group, becomes this with strong PapaWolf tendencies.
* TeamMom - Vin is a male version, though it's more of a BigBrotherInstinct than a PapaWolf one.
* TheQuietOne - is more what Adante is. Ocassionally, though, BewareTheQuietOnes.
* TheSpock- Logic and reason are paramount ideals for Adante. He's a great believer in TheNeedsOfTheMany and WhatIsOneMansLifeInComparison, even (especially) if it’s his own life.
* TheStoic - Stoicism is Adante's ideal of what he wants to be. He would be happiest feeling no emotion at all. Overlaps with being the StoicWoobie for those who know what's really going on in his head.
* TheStrategist - Adante specializes in military logistics and strategy.
* VitriolicBestBuds - Type 2 a la HeterosexualLifePartners.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark - Adante is afraid of himself and what he could become.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart - Adante. "White" hair, in his world, is a symbol of someone who has [[spoiler: been {{Curse}}d by a lingering taint of [[BlackMagic dark magic]], making them either an EvilSorcerer or a DoomMagnet]]. Vin ignores this fact and treats him no differently than he would anyone else, which is one reason Adante considers him his best friend.)
* WouldntHitAGirl - As a Knight and a man, it is Vin's personal creed never to harm a lady. Not to say he wouldn’t subdue or defend himself against a woman, but he’d try to do it by [[MartialPacifist other, non-harmful]] methods, in a rare aversion of his method fighting by relentless attacking.
* YouAreACreditToYourRace - This kind of thinking makes Vin [[BerserkButton very angry]] as he considers himself a SelfMadeMan.

* SherlockScan - LIA is programmed to do this trope when it comes to people, being made to be a therapist after all.
* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove - LIA just wants to know what drives humans.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy - Not surprising, since he was born from the Book of Stories after all.

* SinisterScythe - Or sickle in this case.

* AbsentMindedProfessor - Cathal has spades of this.

* WillTheyOrWontThey - The audition is chockful of this.

* NotSoDifferent - Luka noted early on that her curiosity rivals that of a goblin like Rupert, which is probably why she tolerates him.
* OurGoblinsAreDifferent - Rupert's kind seems to lean towards the more magical kind, though they're not as proficient with it as mages or wizards.
* PlantPerson - Luka's a [[MixAndMatchCritters Plant Deer Giraffe thing]].
* ThePrankster - Rupert all the way.
* TheStoryteller - Luka is into collecting stories.

* GogglesDoNothing / GogglesDoSomethingUnusual - Azrael's goggles were a gift from a friend, which she treasures for the memory. They get an upgrade during the audition where Mudd enhances them with the Function of Descry.
* MixAndMatchCritters - Azrael is a manticore.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics - Physically imposing features aside, Azrael having a pseudo-male organ makes it all the more confusing.

* CrankyNeighbor - Smarmadine may as well be this to Flume. To be fair, all his kind are naturally this due to being made up of two incompatible creatures.

* LivingShadow - Smarmadine.
* PerpetualFrowner - Smarmadine's natural state.
* SourSupporter - As much as Smarmadine hates a lot of things, he hates Flume a lot less, and has a sense of loyalty towards her.

* ObfuscatingStupidity - Fred does this to avoid getting too much into trouble, as people in his society don't take kindly to intelligent zombies.
* OurZombiesAreDifferent - Type M. In Fred's case, zombies start out as a mild version of Type V, mindless, harmless and easy to please. But upon intake of salt, they temporarily turn into Type R, minus the memories of their previous lives.

* ProperLady - Agatha tries to be this.

* AFormYouAreComfortableWith - Subverted as [=GrimGrin=] will always be missing a lower jaw or another body part regardless of his form, which tends to make people feel uncomfortable and maybe even afraid.
* EmotionEater - [=GrimGrin=] (as well as his kin) pretty much sustains himself on people's fears, but it's not as detrimental or noticeable to the victim as most examples.
* FloatingLimbs - [=GrimGrin=]'s default form has this going on.
* NoBiologicalSex - [=GrimGrin=] identifies to being male himself most of the time. Gender isn't important anyway due to [[BizarreAlienReproduction the way his kin reproduce]].
* NeverLearnedToRead - [=GrimGrin=] can't read or write, which makes him getting a page of the Book rather ironic.
* RunningGag - A creator example. This is the second time someone has forfeited against Topios in the first round of an [=OCT=] (first time was during Project Minotaur).
* ShapeshifterDefaultForm - Being Type B, [=GrimGrin=]'s default form is a Shetland pony-sized canine.

* BerserkButton - Never touch Geoffrey's violin.
* CargoShip - Unconsciously invoked with Geoffrey and his violin.
* MinoredInAssKicking - Geoffrey used to be a Squadron Leader (and AcePilot) in the Royal Air Force and is currently a history professor.

* StiffUpperLip - Isn't all that phased with the weird stuff going on and generally acts pretty calm about it. Just don't mess with the violin.
* TimeAbyss - Is pretty damn old and remembers nearly all of it (just not what happened before he woke up in the desert).
* TheStoryteller - The entire reason Mudd tried to recruit him anyways.

* GoodSamaritan - Eulalia shows shades of this when she finds an injured enemy soldier who's only a teenager and removes his identification tags so she could get him medical attention without rousing suspicion.

* TheAlcoholic - Jennifer is a recovering alcoholic when she first enters the book, and during the second round [[spoiler: it seems as though she will fall off the wagon after the fight at the very end]]
* CastFromHitPoints - Jack's powers can exhaust him if used too much.
* CastingAShadow - Jennifer's powers.
* DarkIsNotEvil - Despite the darkness-based powers, Jennifer's an overall good, if not heroic person.
* JumpedAtTheCall - Jennifer was initially excited to be like the superheroes she always admired from comic books.
* MrFixit - Jack is excellent with vehicles and, to an extent, other machines.

* SuperHero - Jack and Jennifer.
* TheRedMage - Jack is this when it comes to elemental powers.
* TheDitz - Jack is a bit of this, being a bit gullible now and then.
* WordOfGay - Jack is bisexual, but in a long-term relationship (although whether the relationship is with a man or a woman is unknown, even to his creator).
