* MeaningfulName: Nick's LoveInterest, whom he has been told he must leave for her own safety, is named a variation on "Juliet".
* {{Narcissist}}: Became this after she turned into a hexenbiest as any care for Nick and the rest were completely erased after this and she embraced her new personality. Once she became Eve, this narcisstic attitude of hers was gone.

* TookALevelInJerkass:She swings rather quickly from trying to accept herself as [[spoiler: a Hexenbeist (and fearing Nick's reaction to it) to aggressively confronting Nick about it. This leads to her leaving Nick (again) when he doesn't immediately kiss her Hexenbiest form. This is despite the fact that Nick was recently raped by a Hexenbeist. Also, a Hexenbeist's Wesen form bears a remarkable resemblance to a rotting corpse, which would make Nick border on ILoveTheDead if he had gone along with it immediately. Following that, she gradually becomes more unpredictable and murderous until her complete FaceHeelTurn in "Iron Hans." She also burns down the trailer and becomes involved in the murder of Nick's mother though she didn't mean for Kelly to die.

* DarkChick: [[spoiler:Until she is BroughtDownToNormal and rejected by Renard]].

* TheDragon: To Captain Renard, at least seemingly. [[spoiler: She's really the DarkChick, as mentioned above]].

* UnskilledButStrong: Adalind has no actual combat skills, however her Hexenbiest powers, granted her enhanced strength, not to Nick level or Monroe's, but still enough to take on much bigger opponents. However this ended up backfiring on her, as after she was BroughtDownToNormal she was left with no abilities to defend herself.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: When asked about her teenager years, Adalind admits that she used to be a shy nerd who never got involved in any form of teenage rebellion. Turns out that when the hexenbiest side comes out, you turn into a real bitch. She also admits that she initially went into law to prove that she was different from [[AbusiveParent her]] [[StageMom mother]]. [[spoiler: Initially though]], it didn’t work.

* MrExposition: To Nick. "What am I, [[LampshadeHanging your personal Grimmo]][[Wiki/{{Wikipedia}} pedia?]]" This turns out to be justified as his many, many skills and vast knowledge base (See CulturedBadass) are useful to Nick.

* WeaponOfChoice: If he has to take up a weapon, he'll usually make a beeline for Nick's elephant gun.

* AnAxToGrind: His preferred weapon in the promotional materials. He finally starts wielding it in the season five finale, using it to kill multiple Black Claw soldiers.

* BalefulPolymorph: At the end of "Chupacabra", [[spoiler: Juliette becomes a Hexenbiest.]]

* BastardBoyfriend: To Adalind, after a fashion.

** This has gone UpToEleven with him since the beginning of Season Four, due to the fact [[spoiler: he knows Nick and Hank are hiding something from him.]]

* MadeOfIron: The fact that Nick was capable of taking a beating from a Skalenzahne in "[[Recap/GrimmS1E12LastGrimmStanding Last Grimm Standing]]" and still managed to easily best it heavily implied that Grimms have far superior strength and stamina than most ''Wesen''. The aforementioned Ogre, however, is something clearly beyond even their limits.
** Following him being infected by Cracher-Mortel toxin, Nick's durability increased to an even higher level. It's unclear whether his physiology has returned to its original level or remained elevated after he's been cured.

* KickTheDog: For the most part Renard runs on PragmaticVillainy and NecessaryEvil, but in Season One he betrays an exception in Adalind. When she loses her power, he kicks her to the curb.

* AmbiguousAllegiance: Seriously, whose side is this guy on? We know he [[spoiler: is a Royal bastard, who]] is working for the Royals to get Nick's key [[spoiler: but then gives it back to Nick once he finds it]], is in direct contact with the Wesen Council, seems to genuinely care about his work as a Portland police captain, and is trying to get Nick for an ally [[spoiler: and has, to a degree, succeeded]]. He's on [[DoubleReverseQuadrupleAgent none of those sides.]] He's also high up in another organization that's allied with but separate from [[spoiler: the anti-Royal resistance]], but we still don't know what their goals are. And later on, when Black Claw sought to turn him to their side, he accepted their offer [[spoiler:and ran for mayor on their behalf, making enemies with both the Resistance and Nick. After Diana uses her powers to make him kill Bonaparte, he cuts his ties with Black Claw, reforming a shaky alliance with Nick.]]

* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: See [[AmbiguousAllegiance Ambiguous Allegiance.]] By the time the show is coming to a close, he's made friends and enemies with all the major factions involved.

* TranquilFury: [[spoiler: After committing herself to revenge against Adalind, she dips into this state and rarely leaves it.]]

* HateSink: After joining Black Claw, Renard became despised by many fans and some refer to him as the worst character on the show because of this.

* RoyalBastard: Sean is eventually revealed to be the illegitimate son of [[spoiler:[[GreaterScopeVillain King Frederick Renard]] of the House of Kronnenberg by one of his [[WitchSpecies Hexenbiest]] mistresses.]] Sean has exploited his royal connections throughout his life as well as the fact no other royal dares kill him publicly for fear of the king's wrath to further his goals, often in his efforts to bring down the other royals.

* WitchSpecies: The Hexenbiest.

* BadassBeard: A short brown one.

* BadassBeard: Has a very short one normally, but grows a proper one when he Woges.

* MixedAncestry: [[spoiler: His father is a King and his mother is a Hexenbiest.]]

* TwoFaced: [[spoiler:In his woged form, half of his face is like a Zauberbiest (male Hexenbiest) due to his MixedAncestry. However, he's currently not a villain as a result, though he is a rather UnscrupulousHero.]]

* RealityEnsues: Inadvertent supernatural compulsion or no, eating inedible objects will land you in the hospital.
** He eventually puts two and two together and connects "criminology student" Theresa Rubel with the dual-homicide suspect that they were tracking earlier. Nick and Hank's evasions prompt him to take the matter to Renard.

* WhosYourDaddy: [[spoiler: Her daughter; is it Captain Renard's child or his brother's?]]

* StuffedInTheFridge: [[InvokedTrope Attempted]] in "Maréchaussée" by a bounty hunter that was after Nick. [[SubvertedTrope She turns the tables on him]] pretty quickly [[spoiler:and kills him.]]

* {{Hypocrite}}: He demands Nick to tell him where the tunnel with all of the Zerstorer symbols are and then scolds him for "putting his daughter at risk" since Diana is his child, when he was the one who puts Nick's son in danger when he force Adalind to cooperate with Black Claw and Bonaparte.
