Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:

openTrolling or...? Live Action TV
Found this while looking at the Hide Your Lesbians page:
- In Modern Family, Haley’s bisexuality has never been explicitly stated on the show, and she hasn’t had any storylines on the show that would indicate she is bisexual.
If the character has never been stated to be bisexual, and there's no indication that she is, then does it really count as this trope? I don't understand why this was added.

openFridge Cleanup?
I've been considering it for a while now, but should I start a "Fridge" cleanup effort?
There seems to be a lot of confusion lately about what qualifies as Fridge, how Fridge and Headscratchers differ, if the section is meant to be more subjective or more objective, etc. Not to mention other common issues, like first-person writing or nattery discussions.
My question is if a cleanup thread would be able to tackle the debates we keep having, or if we should instead have a Trope Talk discussion first before jumping into cleanup.
resolved Here's johnny?
Taylorswiftscat edited the quotes page for replacement scrappy, just as one of johnnyfog's socks did, along with johnny himself. They also edited a bunch of quotes pages and the WCW page.
They do seem suspiciously familiar with the wiki for a newcomer, based on my interactions with them.

openGravedigging question?
Is it gravedigging to bring back up a discussion in TRS on Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy after 10 days with no further replies?
In general, what's the limit for reviving old discussions?
openHow to link to a specific thread comment
Hello,
I'm an active participant in the Complete Monster cleanup thread, and there's only one thing I haven't figured out - how does one link to a specific previous comment? I know how to link to an entire previous page, but not a specific comment, and that would be incredibly useful to know

openChristmas Episode question Live Action TV
I was going to add some Christmas Episode specials to Non-Serial Movie but am not quite sure whether to add them or not.
What I planned to add:
- Hetty Feather, a CBBC period piece from The BBC had its 2019 Christmas special in Series 5; although it's disputed if it's canon or not, even though it could fit into the series' timeline.
I added to that page about an example from The Next Step of a Christmas Episode that was treated as a special but of uncertain canonicity.
In general, when should a Christmas Episode be treated as a Non-Serial Movie if there's no Word of God on its canonicity but in general, there's things that make it seem like it's outside the series'timeline/out of continuity?
openQuestionably accurate Unfortunate Implications claim? Videogame
Most of the pages for Cyberpunk 2077 are currently locked due to the massive post-release backlash over the game's rocky launch, but I noticed this slipped into the YMMV page's Unfortunate Implications entry at some point and I'm wondering if I should request its removal in the Locked Pages thread:
- The game's cyberpunk credentials have been called into question with the fact that it is a corporate produced product where V spends a lot of his time actively working for the police, corporations, and rich clients rather than actively rebelling against them.
There's a few things to note here. First, this entry appears to have been added in a failed attempt at starting an entire UE subpage for the game, which got cutlisted for a lack of examples (it had like, three total, and I'm willing to bet its creation was at least partially a bad-faith knee-jerk reaction due to the afore-mentioned backlash).
Second, while the source it's citing is legitimate, all three points it's making are... mostly wrong? They're all either exaggerated or misinterpreted, seemingly due to the writer of the article being uninvested in the gameplay and story. To summarize:
- While the game does have a number of side-activities known as "Police Scanner Hustles" which could be interpreted by someone not paying attention as you doing contract work for the Police, the majority of them are you using your illegal police scanner to arrive at crime scenes before the cops do, kill the perps, and steal any valuables they have on them before the cops can bag them as evidence.
- The only parts of the game where you can directly work for a corporation are the "Corpo" lifepath's prologue, where your corrupt boss makes you a patsy for his crimes and you get fired, a sidequest involving a film production corporation where you're more working for their lead actor than them, and the game's Bad Ending, which frames your decision to side with a corporation as a Deal with the Devil where you've essentially sold your soul for an easy out to your problem. The other endings involve you actively assaulting the headquarters of a major corporation.
- Aside from the corporations the only truly wealthy people you ever work for are a burnt-out rockstar desperate for a real friend, a pop star who turns out to be slightly psychotic, and a struggling politician - the only honest one in the entire city - and his wife, who are actively trying to change things for the better and help the needy. The sidequest for the politicians ends in tragedy and frames their efforts as pointless in the face of the corrupt, dystopian political system they're a part of.
I admit the article has a point about the game not having any profound or socially relevant themes in its main story, but to say that it actively endorses dystopic capitalism like this entry implies seems absurd to me. Still, the article is genuine and comes from a reputable source, so I'm not sure if it's really violating any guidelines.
Edited by Dirtyblue929open Possible Ban-Evader or maybe just my paranoia
I've noticed some odd editing patterns with taylorswiftscat.
A lot of their edits seems to consist of them unilaterally making large changes (re-organising examples, adding and removing examples) to various quote page without leaving edit reasons or checking with the quote discussion thread.
This behaviour is reminiscent of two ban-evaders I've previously seen; Johnnyfog, and Worldbeater who was recently caught ban-evading as Burgerants.
And looking through their edits to non quote-page pages, they appear to editing the same type of pages that said tropers had previously edited.
So is there any possibility of an IP Check, just in case.
openWhat counts as a general example?
Are examples still general if you cite references? For example, the first two examples on Pop-Culture Isolation are:
- A good deal of anime and manga, outside Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Speed Racer and the like, are not well known outside the fanbase. Just see the Trope Namer for Cowboy BeBop at His Computer for a specific example. It's certainly not helped by the Animation Age Ghetto and the stereotype that anime is misogynist, tentacle-obsessed trash. (The obvious inconsistency of these two stereotypes doesn't seem to matter.)
- The Super Robot genre is popular among anime fans but is fairly obscure outside of those circles. If giant robots are mentioned by people outside the anime fandom, they'll usually be referring to the Transformers Film Series, the Megazord from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, or Pacific Rim.
openIs this a complain or a Take That? Western Animation
So for the long time, I been wanting to edit it out an example of Held Gaze because of the last sentence which I think it's either a complain or a Take That!. Here's the example: The Legend of Korra:
- In the final scene of the entire series, after an entire season's worth of Ship Tease and nudges, Korra and Asami, of all people, share one of these—complete with holding hands whilst facing one another—as they're teleported into the Spirit World by Republic City's newly-created Spirit Portal. It's like Bryke decided to smash a wrecking ball through the Moral Guardians' basement.
openTrivia page help?
So I'm currently working on a TV Tropes page along with some other people. We're currently stumped as to how we're gonna fix the Trivia page, specifically the Word of God section.
That is because a good portion of the Word of God section stems from a Reddit post, along with certain replies to questions asked in that post. We want to link in the post, but at the same time we want to make it so that people can tell what stuff comes from the Reddit post, and what doesn't.
As of today, we have the description for that Reddit post as the main thing (Word of God: description), with the info coming from that post in bullet points. However, with that format, it's kinda hard to tell what comes from the Reddit post, and what doesn't.
Is there any way to, I guess, "optimize" the formatting? Because I doubt this is the cleanest format to put the info in. Thank you in advance!
openGeometry Dash Nightmare Fuel Page Videogame
I don't know about everyone else, but personally, I feel like the Nightmare Fuel page for Geometry Dash was unfairly deleted. The justification given was that the page used examples from user-made levels, rather than just official content. However, this is said as if the user-made levels are equivalent to mods or other fanmade content and not part of the real game, despite the level editor actually taking up a huge majority of the gameplay. Not to mention, several other articles also involve mostly user-made levels over official content, such as the That One Level page and the Awesome page. If anyone has a better justification or explanation for the deletion of the page, I'd be happy to hear it, no matter how sarcastic that phrase sounds over text.
Edit: I've been looking back through posts made here, and I found one that I believe does make a valid point in favor of removing the page. Apologies for the misunderstanding.
Edited by BruhmpexopenUnbuilt Trope
Mythology & Religion has these two examples for The Bible. Are they legitimate examples, a different trope, or some sort of complaining?
- Picture if you will a being that exists outside of space and time that can make and unmake the universe at will just with its voice, who sometimes sends messengers into the mortal world to manipulate mortals into performing seemingly insignificant actions as small parts of a very long-term plan that is inscrutable to all beings except itself, that has the power not only to destroy said people's bodies but also to lock their souls into an eternal state of And I Must Scream for failing to follow said plan, and a form that is so incomprehensible to human beings that the mere sight of it would kill them instantly and even the most minuscule fraction of its power is able to induce visceral terror in even its most loyal of servants. No, it's not some Lovecraftian Eldritch Abomination; that's God Himself. And He's not out to destroy or mutate the reality He created with His sheer might; He's the benevolent guardian of humanity who sends a manifestation of Himself (Jesus) to show them the light, and protect them from a lesser-but-actually-evil entity (Satan).
