Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

Fallen Creator:

    New Media
  • Obscure Horror Corner was a YouTube channel with a simple but effective premise: post playthroughs of obscure horror games. The lack of familiarity with these titles piqued the curiosity of viewers, and the lack of commentary allowed them to immerse themselves in the experience. The channel's popularity exploded when its user, Jamie, uploaded footage of a game called "Sad Satan", an exceptionally disturbing and bizarre game supposedly found on the Deep Web. It sparked enough notoriety that Jamie was called in for an interview with Kotaku, which was followed with articles from other websites and even its own subreddit.

Just as quickly as channel became popular, its credibility as a horror game showcase would plummet. Viewers have pointed out evidence that Jamie lied about Sad Satan's origins, that he actually made it himself: those saavy with the Deep Web realized that the supposed download link he provided had a "9" in it (a number that's incompatible with onion UR Ls). His explanation for this - that he changed it to prevent anyone from downloading a game which contained child porn - contradicts an earlier statement that the game didn't have any gore or child porn whatsoever. Things became worse when someone claiming to be the creator of Sad Satan released an "uncensored" version on 4Chan (actually a clone), which not only contained the aforementioned gore and child porn, but also a crippling botnet virus.

Three months of passed without any activity from OHC: no confessions, no apologies, not even new videos. In the beginning of October, he would post two videos lacking any context: a weak attempt at an Alternate Reality Game, and a still image of a tree with a noose. The comments of these two videos are filled with disappointment and frustration, especially from older subscribers that simply want to see more horror game playthroughs. Now the channel will never be able to return to its original premise without facing the suspicion of its audience.

One of the entries for Game Breaker is incorrect, reading: "The Midger Zolem uses an attack called Trine, which counts as an enemy skill. If you can survive it with said materia intact you can essentially blaze through the first disc and much of the second." Please correct "Midger" to "midgar" and change "Trine" to "Beta" as that is the actual move it uses.

Speaking of, the main page for that game makes references to Advent Children and Before Crisis even though those things already have their own pages, and that page specifically is for the original game only.

My Shrieve rewrite wasn't done. It goes in Arrowverse

  • General Matthew Shrieve, the Big Bad of the flashback sequences during season 3, initially appears in The Return" as a reasonable and helpful man, who frees Oliver Queen and the Yamashiros from A.R.G.U.S services, after they stop the Omega virus from being sold on the Black Market. However in "Nanda Parbat", he takes the virus for himself, before usurping Amanda Waller as head of A.R.G.U.S, and sending a squad of soldiers to attack Oliver and the Yamashiros, including young Akio. In "The Fallen" we see that Shrieve perceives China as an economic threat, so he plans to release the virus onto the public, and so distributes more of the virus, under the pretense that it's a vaccine. Akio is infected in "This is Your Sword", so Oliver and Maseo confront Shrieve for a possible cure. Shrieve personally gives them the medicine before revealing that it was insulin for his diabetes and it was a ruse to get them killed.

I'd some things added to the Discworld entry in The Fundamentalist, and the indentation changed a bit, so that the whole entry would be as follows:

  • Discworld:
    • Terry Pratchett parodies the concept of fundamentalism with the Omnians, who cling to their monotheistic beliefs despite being demonstrably wrong. The majority of them are depicted as basically nice people, however, just irritatingly overzealous at times.
      • Small Gods is the story of how they got past the old fire and brimstone style of fundamentalism. An interesting twist is that virtually none of the people shown in Small Gods actually believe in the Great God Om, rather they believe that they don't want to be tortured by the Quisition for expressing their unbelief.
      • Vorbis the Exquisitor is perhaps the ultimate fundamentalist. He has no trouble admitting to himself (and a few others) that it is irrelevant if something is empirically found to contradict the teachings of their holy book, because real truth is found within. In other words, even if he's not factually right, he's still right, and right to extinguish those who disagree. And he's not just pretending to believe he is, either, but really believes he's following his god's will. Supernatural beings see his mind as a steel ball; nothing can get in or out. Of course, when his actual god appears in an admittedly unlikely physical form in front of him, he can't hear him at all, as any believer could. In the end, after his death, he finds himself in the desert where several of his victims have also found themselves. They actually found it to be a hopeful new start. He can't cross the desert because the desert is what you believe, and he finds it horrifyingly empty.
      • In The Science Of Discworld IV: Judgement Day, a sect of modern Omnian fundamentalists raises a court case to gain custody of the Roundworld (a Bigger on the Inside miniature universe created by the wizards that also happens to be ours) on the grounds that the world being round is an idea of their religion. Incidentally, they defend this idea of the shape of the world confidently while ignoring the plain evidence to the contrary. Their spokesman eventually calls Om to be his witness, and this being the Discworld, the god is obliged to appear. He then goes on to argue the case of the sect's opposition and also to state quite clearly that he doesn't like what they're doing in his name. After he leaves, the spokesman says "Well, that's one opinion," and they try to resort to terrorism next.
    • "Fundamentalist" atheists, of course, are equally deluded... seeing as the gods have tendency to come and throw lightning bolts at you if you refuse to believe in them. The golem constable in the Watch, Dorfl, being ceramic and thus fireproof has proven to be something of a challenge in this regard.
    • Dwarfs ostensibly have no religion, but being a dwarf itself is like a religion, and there are people who are fundamentalists about being dwarfs. Typically these are found among the grags, the (quasi-)religious specialists, though not all of them are like that. The extremists refuse to be touched by sunlight at all, since it's proper for dwarfs to be underground, and are opposed to dwarfs in human cities taking on foreign influences such as being openly female. In Thud, they fight tooth and nail to hide evidence that hating trolls was not originally a part of dwarven cultural heritage. In Raising Steam, they start leading terrorist strikes against technological symbols of modernity — the semaphore towers and the nascent railway.

On Roleplay.Cerberus Daily News change an entry from:

  • Author Existence Failure: Happens in-universe when Suzi Spektre, the actress who plays "Shepherd" in Citadel XXX is killed during the Reaper attack on earth. Shepherd's role is taken up by Melody Jovia. The change in appearance is explained via the Cerberus "Elazar Project's" facial reconstruction. Just like in the game.

since that use of Captain Obvious is a sinkhole.

I was just browsing Chekovs Gun. I noticed that in the Warhammer 40K example under Tabletop Games should probably use Hand Cannon instead of BFG (since it was describing a bolt pistol from the setting):

Captain Che'''n'''kov's gun is just an [[{{BFG}} ordinary bolt pistol]].

Please remove the The Scrappy pothole from Base Breaker. The Scrappy requires a majority of hatred, not some, and thus the pothole is extremely misleading.

Did the Cerberus Daily News edits. Didn't do Base Breaker, because YMMV items are opinions and can't be mutually exclusive, different people may hold different opinions. Didn't do Chekovs Gun because the imagery of that fellow looks like a gun rather than a hand cannon to me.

Some YMMV items have a degree of objective criteria and some have conflicting defintions. The Scrappy, by defintion, requires that a majority a fans hate the character, not some, and thus its use as a Base Breaker pothole is misleading.

The definition is:

there is a character who has a hatedom. We'll call this guy The Scrappy.

The idea that it means "a character disliked by a majority of fans (by whichever definition of 'majority')" seems rather ill-supported.

More to the point, there is no indication at all that this definition is in any way exclusive with A character in a series who is loved by one section of the fanbase, and hated by the rest.
