Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

On the main page for Final Fantasy VII there's a Xanatos Roulette wick. I request that it be changed to Gambit Roulette because Xanatos Roulette was renamed to Gambit Roulette.

The Lonely Island is in need of edits now that The Wack Album is out and "Go Kindergarten" has a music video.

[up] Write up the examples you want to add, formatted as if you were adding them to the page, and post them here. Then the mods will make the edits to the page.

EDIT: If it's part of the description you want changed, provide the exact text you think it should be changed to, and specify where on the page it should go/what should be replaced.

[up][up][up] Done.

I'm leaving for an out-of-state trip tomorrow and will be mostly away from the wiki for most of the week, so you may need to holler anything urgent.

I would like to add this example to America Saves the Day:

  • In Man of Steel, the Kryptonians are clearly a global-level threat, but you wouldn't get the impression that any armed forces exist outside of American ones. No other country's military gets involved at all. This is almost plausible since most of the conflict takes place on American soil, but at one point, a World Engine is deployed on the other side of the globe, and not one non-American military force even investigates it.

In Administrivia.Permanent Red Link Club, please replace the following:

  • Wait What Whoa: Never defined very well, which probably wasn't helped by the name being better for "clever" potholing than actually describing the trope.

with the following:

  • Wait What Whoa: Never defined very well, which probably wasn't helped by the name being better for "clever" potholing than actually describing the trope. Redundant to Double Take anyway.

In Administrivia.Permanent Red Link Club, please replace the following:

  • Token Loli: It was originally meant to describe a very young female in a predominately adult or teenager cast. However, this trope has been constantly misused like crazy. This, along with concerns about advertisements, Unfortunate Implication of the trope name, and the the lack of male equivalent of this trope, had lead us to rename this trope to a more gender neutral name as Token Mini-Moe that describes the only prepubescent (or prepubescent-looking) male and female character within the main cast (The "Cute Shotaro Boy", a completely separate trope, was later renamed Adorably Precocious Child for similar reasons above).

with the following, which doesn't carry a hermaphroditic subtext:

The redlinks in there need to be removed. The Token Loli thing happened before the second Google incident.

I have an idea for an administrivia article, targeted at editors with experience editing Wikipedia who are new to TV Tropes, that summarizes the policy differences between Wikipedia and TV Tropes. But the title Administrivia. We Are Not Wikipedia is forever barred because it is listed on Permanent Red Link Club, and the unlock request topic states that once a title is listed, it is never delisted. So I have decided to open the possibility of fleshing out Dr Pedia And Mr Trope into a point-by-point summary of the most important differences.

Toward this end, in Administrivia.Permanent Red Link Club, please replace the following:

with the following:

[up] Similarly, you should add this to Permanent Red Link Club:

  • YMMV.Well Intentioned Extremist: Calling someone an extremist, well-intentioned or otherwise (and even the "well-intentioned" part is a touchy subject), is not a good idea. This isn't even what the YMMV subpages are for.

Also, replace the Token Loli with this:

  • Token Loli: It was originally meant to describe a very young female in a predominantly adult or teenager cast. However, this trope has been constantly misused like crazy. This, along with concerns about advertisements, the unfortunate implication of the trope name, and the lack of a male equivalent of this trope, had lead us to rename this trope to a more gender neutral name as Token Mini-Moe that describes the only prepubescent (or prepubescent-looking) male or female character within the main cast (The "Cute Shotaro Boy", a completely separate trope, was later renamed Adorably Precocious Child for similar reasons above).

@Panctice: I do not feel that these edits are particularly necessary.

@Damian: That new Administrivia/ article would need a Wiki Talk discussion.

But, it's got all the hallmarks that make it worthy PRLC member.

As for Token Loli, those are typo corrections.

Speaking of Permanent Red Link Club, I did notice that since the lock was taken off some time ago, someone did make the entry for Microsoft Windows while still trying to be objective. I mean I did ask a question in the Microsoft Windows discussion a couple months ago, but as long as the page was no longer locked and there's an attempt at objective material by a different person, would a discreet preemptive lock on the page suffice to prevent any potential bile (particularly since other OSes are represented on this wiki; I think it wise that the page for Microsoft itself remain in the PRLC, though it can be okay for a bile-free Windows page to remain)? Relatedly, if the answer is yes, I think it's safe to say it can be taken off the Microsoft entry on that page, leaving just Microsoft itself.

Just take it off PRLC. Not seeing a point in a preemptive lock, really.

I'd like to have Behind Every Great Man added to the Double Standard page, under "Sexist Against Women".

Suggested phrasing:

  • Behind Every Great Man: No matter what a woman accomplishes, it won't be as worthy of attention as the same accomplishment made by a man.

I'd like to make a modification to The Bible page.

Specifically, it gives Lucifer as an ur-example of something - Lucy isn't in the Bible except in some translations, and it's a translation of a Hebrew word into a Latin translation that unsurprisingly used a Latin term. It's an epithet or sobriquet, not a name.

He's a prominent figure in Christian Mythology (yes, Metatron, I know they hate it when someone uses that term), but he's not portrayed in The Book that way without some heavy use of epileptic trees (apple, of course), and even then it's very, very rare. The book of Job is probably his biggest appearance.

It's probably best to roll the line on "Fallen Angel" into the entry just below it: Fanon.

For the Under The Dome entry, please change the first two sentences to

At best, Selectman James P. "Big Jim" Rennie from Under The Dome is a cold-blooded, amoral, greedy, psychopathic bastard.

For the entry on "It," please replace "eponymous" with "titular." Thanks :)

Tropes.Clockwork Universes seems to have an accidentally-mispelled namespace; can it be moved to Tropers.Clockwork Universes with the former being cut?
