Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

     Previous Post
Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Eh, never heard of the Date A Live light novels. There are some users from the Villains Wiki that know about the light novels. I can contact them if you want.

Got a nomination from Highschool DXD, the fallen angel Raymare.

Who Is She?

Raymare is a fallen angel who gets her kicks from seducing and killing people who carry 'gears'. Her latest targets were the perverted Issei and the pure hearted nun Asia. With Issei, she used the fact he had a crush on him to ask him out on a date...and then sadistically murder him at the end of it. His life is only saved by the devil Rias and then Raymare sets her sights on the kind hearted nun named Asia who has special healing abilities.

To get Asia's power for herself she tricks other fallen angels and corrupt exorcists to hold off Rias' crew and sadistically mocks Issei when he comes to rescue Asia. She eventually drains Asia's healing ability and gives a torturous No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on Issei who, at the moment, is unable to fight back.

Asia dies and Raymare impales Issei's legs with 'beams of light' while taunting him on how much she didn't enjoy their dates. Issei finally gets pissed off enough, unlocks his hidden power and defeats her. She then reverted to what Issei liked in an attempt not to be killed by him...and he couldn't do it. But he let Rias kill her.

What has she done?

Betrays her own organization for power, mercilessly tortures an innocent girl and the guy who had a crush on her, and is said to have killed a lot more innocent people who had 'gears'. All in all, she's pretty evil.

Any redeeming features?

None. She's absolutely vile throughout her entire life.

In Conclusion

From what I've seen so far, she's the only villain who fits.

Okay, I talked to one of the users and he had this to say regarding Jessica Bailey.

"I consider Jessica as a CM because she is a kind of village that is obsessed with power and fame, she tried to kill millions of people during the competition of music only to capture Tohka and receive attention from Wescott and become the Adeptus 2, she had a chance to redeem herself, however, she ignored the chance to come back and keep fighting until death because of her loyalty to Wescott, she just stopped fighting when her brain had exploded by technological magic and she died in the arms of Mana."

Also, [tup] to Raymare.

I apologize. I was just very upset having found so many Complete Monster examples in these fanworks which are pretty much just ZCE or Ron the Death Eater. I requested RF!Dash be cut due to questionable moral agency, but she hasn't been. I wonder why...?

I'm not against darkfic examples, it's just there's so many fics to go through and I don't think I can wade through them all myself. I'm a man with a lot of free time, but I'd rather not spend it looking through countless subpages. I'm starting to wish the search function was a lot more functional. I can search for simple things, but I'd like to be able to quickly search all the MLP fanworks pages to confirm if there are any complete monster examples on them.

I've decided I'll search about 5-10 pages a day.

Also, I'm not sure if Discord is Ozai. I'm just assuming since he hasn't been mentioned anywhere else.

Do you guys think I should repost Shredtail and Clear Sky to review them in case anyone wants to vote on them? I'd like to write a full "What have they done?" entry but I'm not very verbose or good at explaining things, so I'll just post what I know of them if anyone wants to vote.

Fair warning: I can get pretty emotional and take things too seriously.

Did we discuss The Villager from the Creepypasta "The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing"? He horribly mutilates the entire town of Aika with an axe. He doesn't have a Freudian Excuse for his actions and he's played terribly seriously. Even in an animeme spoofing this, he's still not played for laughs and is a chillingly realistic representation of an Ax-Crazy sociopath. Said village is even playable in New Leaf!

If he's voted yes, could we add him to Monster.Fan Works?

Fair warning: I can get pretty emotional and take things too seriously.

Write-up for Gian Carlo

  • Crossing Lines has Gian Carlo from "Desperation & Desperados". Chief of security for mafia boss Nicolo Conti, Gian Carlo is assigned to rescue Conti's kidnapped daughter, Angela, after brothers Antonio and Paulo raid Conti's drug stash and capture her. After executing the warehouse guard, Gian Carlo tracks the brothers to a marketplace and opens fire; when Paulo and Antonio manage to make their escape, Gian Carlo instructs his men to kill the witnesses, slaughtering twenty-five people—including two children—in an effort to keep it quiet. He follows the brothers to Slovenia and kills another nine people at a gas station, before cornering them at a hospital where he murders Paulo, two hospital workers and two police officers who try to stop him. He subsequently runs Angela and Antonio off the road, fatally wounding Antonio in the process, shoots one of his men when he objects to the idea of hurting Angela, tries to kill Angela herself while ranting about how she doesn't appreciate what he's done for her, and then dies in a shootout with the police. Leaving a trail of human wreckage—including forty-two dead—throughout Italy and Slovenia, Gian Carlo did more damage in an afternoon than most gangsters do in their entire lives.

How's that look?

I found a character by the name of Charles in this horror story I read by the name of Jade Green...he murdered the titular character and chopped off her hand when she rejected him...and attempted to rape and murder his cousin (who was the main protagonist) after she did the same...

Did I mention that he is forty years old and the main protagonist is fifteen?

Of course, I don't think we have a page for it...but I just wanted to see if you agree...though you probably haven't read the book.

[tup] for that writeup. Also, did we ever discuss Smithy from SMRPG? I searched for him in the search feature and got no results from this topic. He certainly seems heinous enough having nearly starved and killed many people on screen by trapping the citizens of Seaside Town in an underground cellar and immobilizing the villagers of Rose Town. He also tried to destroy the Star Road which is something Bowser's never tried to do. He also abused his minions and threatens to destroy them if they disobey him.

I doubt he qualifies, but I'm just proposing him since from the look of it, we've never discussed him.

Great writeup, Ambar. Also, I think this of Rem Kannagi could be a good page photo for the Monster.Kamen Rider page. Context of photos: From Movie Wars Megamax (OOO and Fourze), Rem is about to kill Nadeshiko (Gentaro's Love Interest) with a maniacal smile. After the photo, he kills her and brags about it in front of a greiving Gentaro before having one of his Foundation X mooks sent in to finish the grieving hero.

Thoughts?

Smithy never stood out to me as far as the Mario RPGs went. I don't think evil enough to the point where we can call him a Complete Monster.

[up] As for the Kamen Rider picture, don't we have threads dedicated to picking pictures for these kinds of pages? The girl's obviously struggling, but that picture doesn't really scream Complete Monster to me anyways.

Basically, he's an ephebophile and a murderer, I can tell you that if that's not obvious, He also happens to be an arsonist, as he set the cellar of the house the book takes place in on fire so that he could collect the money in his will.

The residents in the house were shocked and saddened by what he did to Jade Green (they didn't realize that he was the killer, as he made them believe that it was a suicide to cover his tracks).

Sorry, am I getting offtopic? I just wanted to let you know about him and what you thought about the guy...personally I wouldn't feel sorry for him if he suffered a Fate Worse than Death, but that's just my opinion.

Judging from the reviews I found of the book, people consider him to be absolutely horrifying.

I'd like to make some points about some of the characters I've nominated and nominate a couple of others too;

  • Gerrith Barrington; I botched things up when I asked for him to be added before anybody had even voted yet but I didn't understand how this thread works then. I do now, and I still feel very strongly that Barrington qualifies. As I said before, he razed a village when they refused to hand two kids over to him so he could use their power to become king, and if that isn't bad enough when of them found about this he started raping her in order to break her spirit so she'd be easier to control. Admittedly this is Offstage Villainy, but we're talking about a T rated game here so there's only so much they can actually show.

  • Finn; Is there any real proof that he genuinely cares for his sister? He mentions he's given all to her and he kisses her neck at one point, but don't forget she's got the power to keep him alive for centuries, and most people in that situation would make a point of having a close relationship with their sister whether they genuinely loved them or not. And while his worst crimes are Offstage Villainy, he does some pretty awful things onscreen too, namely attempting to rape Snow White, made even worse by the implication that he's been lusting for her since she was a child, which adds a whole new layer of Fridge Horror to his character, and later on he gleefully torches a village that was protecting her. On a related note I'd like to nominate another character, Valter. In a nutshell he's basically Finn minus the possible care for his sister, even Caellach is disgusted by him.

  • Tessai and Director Kakuzawa; I notice that hardly anybody seems interested in discussing Tessai. I hope I don't sound rude but are a lot of people on this thread not familiar with Ninja Scroll? As for Kakuzawa, aside from everything he does, it seems likely that his care for his daughter isn't genuine, or at least not anymore. One the subject of Elfen Lied, why in the name of all that is good has Mayu's Stepfather been removed?

  • Turbo; I read the article explaining why Turbo doesn't qualify. It's well thought out but there are a couple of problems. First of all according to Sour Bill, King Candy did try to delete Vanellope and failed, so obviously it's impossible to delete characters, or at least very hard. If he had killed Raplh or Felix their game would have been unplugged, and that would mean a lot of unwanted attention for him when it got out that he was responsible for that. Finally the article says Cy-Bug Turbo is technically a different character from the original. there's nothing to contradict that but don't forget the scene where he tries to force Ralph to watch Vanellope get killed by the Cy-Bugs. Cy-Bugs are programmed to kill, not to be needlessly sadistic, which suggests that in all likelihood that the original Turbo would have been just as capable of that, especially since he's already shown signs of a sadistic streak when he laughs maniaclly when he tries to kill Vanellope by ramming her car against a wall. In short the Cy-bug was a mindless killing machine, but when it eats Turbo it gains his personality, the personality of a sadistic egomaniac.

  • [[Yugioh Mr Ishtar]]; He's one of the worst fathers in the history of kids shows! He treats his adopted son Odion as a slave, shows no emotion when his wife dies in childbirth, and carves his 10 year-old son Marik's back up with a look of sadistic glee on his face. Then when Odion lets Ishiszu take Marik out for one last day of freedom, their father brutally whips him (or burns him with heated blades in the manga) and heavily implies he's going to do the same to Marik.

Offscreen: Is there a cut to black or anything?
Wilford tweak:

  • Snowpiercer: Wilford is a selfish and megalomaniacal social Darwinist who seeks total control over what’s left of mankind. Despite knowing the risks of using CW-7 to combat global warming, Wilford doesn’t bother doing anything about it and instead takes advantage of it to design and create the Snowpiercer. When the train begins its trip, he tries starving out stowaways inside the tail section of his train, forcing them to resort to cannibalism. For the next 18 years, Wilford installs a caste system where the poor inhabit the tail section and the elite inhabit the front. The poor are frequently tortured, force-fed bars that are made out of cockroaches, bullied by psychos such as Wilford’s Dragon, Mason, and occasionally have their children abducted. The front section cannot escape Wilford’s iron fist either, as their kids are brainwashed with propaganda promoting a cult of personality that treats him as a living god and as a savior of humanity. As Curtis Everett learned the hard way, Wilford will also not hesitate to meddle with facts and pull breaking lectures on his victims. Wilford tells Curtis that revolutions in the tail were pre-planned by him and his mole Gilliam to keep the tail section population in check, only then to reveal that Wilford had no problems ordering his friend’s execution for failing to control Curtis’s rebellion. Wilford then spites Curtis by "tallying up the numbers," by which he means ordering a henchman to kill everyone but 18 people in the tail section and putting the ensuing massacre on speakerphone. When Yona pulls up the floor to reveal Timmy, a 5-year-old boy, being used as slave labor to replace the train’s parts, Wilford declares that children under 5 are "parts of an engine." He then calls Timmy "a replacement" and thanks the tail section for having a "steady supply of kids."

Now:

I'll give a yes to Argile. Damn.

Supersaiyaman: Also a yes for Raynare (wtch the spelling, SSM).

klavice: the Villager...how serious is this Creepypasta, precisely

ambar: Good Gian Carlo writeup!

Cakeman: More details. Who's this by,where's it from, plot, characters, etc.

Klavice: Smithy? Really? What earns him a spot here, exactly? I don't recall him being that bad.

Sanfran: nice pic

Witchoftheabsolute's list:

For Gerrith Barrington, I'm inclined to allow it. I give a pass to Offstage if the trauma of the victim is clearly shown and the plot deals with it sufficiently, which may be the case here. However, I want more people to weigh in.

Tessai is a keep. I'll writehim up.

Finn: Is there real evidence he doesn't? He shows devotion and clear affection for Ravenna, he's loyal to her, he at once point breaks down when she's kicking him around and screams he's already given her everything he has, which makes Ravenna stop her assault and the two have a moment.

He doesn't count. End of story here.

Kakuzawa seems a keep now, but seriously, with Mayu's stepfather? Ok, let me explain: When you have a series with lots and lots of horrible things, including The Unknown Man , Mayu's stepfather is suddenly eclipsed in heinousness. Next to these two, he doesn't look as bad.

Turbo: Is this new information? I don't really care about this conversation at all, but someone else who was involved might be able to deal with it.

mr. Ishtar: No chance. The guy isn't even as bad a dad as Gozaburo Kaiba, and is eclipsed in heinousness by nearly every other villain.
