Create a completely different premise for an existing video game

Minecraft: A Tower Defense type game in which you create various explosive devices to defend your base from ever larger hordes of mooks

That's not far-off from normal Minecraft actually. :p

Build a hole in the ground, make it into a spire, build demolition charges, TNT, etc, and defend it from a large group of mobs.

From what I've seen the actual game has more to do with building giant pixel art than blowing things up.

Quake: An unprecedentedly large earthquake has just demolished San Fransicso. Your objective is to find survivors and escort them to safety, while watching out for aftershocks.

Angry Birds: An adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, but they couldn't afford the license to the name. One adjective later...

Halo: Of those who have earned entrance into Heaven, only the most blessed can obtain this sacred headwear. As a newly-deceased who's made it through the pearly gates, you must do everything in your power to work your way up the ranks and earn the golden ring.

Chex Quest: You go to the grocery store and buy a box of the cereal.

Drill Dozer: You are an assistant dentist, in charge of putting to sleep those who need extensive dental work to be done.

Starcraft: You ever play FTL: Faster Than Light?

Still sounds better than the actual game.
