Maybe we should make this into a general Sailor Moon Fanfiction Thread?
I have an OC Cast Herd that are expies/ersatzes of the Solar System Sailor Soldiers, and am thinking of giving each one her unique nationality/ethnicity within the group, kind of like how Eichiro Oda of One Piece does with each of that manga's Straw Hat Pirates (seriously, see here). What do you guys suggest?
BTW, I'm also trying to come up with distinctive "appeal traits" for each of those characters. So far I think have Usagi and Chibiusa** , Makoto ** , Minako ** , Rei ** , and Hotaru ** down; need help with the rest, though.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I have no ideas on the first part, but for the second part:
Michiru's the graceful, classy, proper lady type. A Lady of War.
Haruka is the athletic savvy, prideful, and competitive. Like a mix between a Millionaire Playboy and Lesbian Jock
I'm talking physical traits, not personalities.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Haruka's appeal would probably be that she's a Bifauxnen and would appeal to those who like masculine-looking girls. Setsuna's appeal would be that she's mature and possibly exotic-looking because she has darker skin than the rest of the other Senshi. Maybe she would be considered to have Kuudere appeal as well. Michiru would have the appeal of a classically elegant lady.
Ami is one who I have seen described as looking cute and innocent in a nerdy way, so that would be her appeal, plus sometimes she is shown wearing glasses and thus would appeal to those who like Meganekko.
Does that help?
Typical Marq, always thinking about the physique first...
I can think of some nationalities:
Ami's expy would be Chinese
Rei's would be Japanese
Haruka's would be Australian
Makoto's would be Scottish
Michiru would be British
Usagi would be American, from the east coast.
Minako would be from Canada near the US border.
Setsuna would be Indian.
And I'm not sure about Hotaru.
Thread retitled per request.
THE TWO GREATEST JAPANESE IMPORTS OF THE 90'S THAT MOST KIDS DIDN'T REALIZE WERE IMPORTS.
BROUGHT TOGETHER IN THE MOST EPICALLY HORRIBLE THING SINCE FANFICTION.
MIGHTY MORPHIN SAILOR RANGERS.
<ahem>
Sorry, got my enthusiasm under control now.
Other than Mercury as Blue, Mars as Red, and Jupiter as Green or Yellow, I don't have the color assignments in mind yet, though.

The new Sailor Moon series better have a Power Rangers Crossover, because I really want to see a Sailor Megazord. I'm pretty sure the sheer ham would be hazardous to the viewer's health though.
Venus could be Yellow, and Sailor Moon is White. Tuxedo Mask could be the Black Ranger.

I was thinking Tuxedo Mask would be an ally, but not himself a Ranger, akin to Magna Defender or Ninjor.
Venus is also a workable yellow, I just am mind-bogglingly slow at watching the series (not that my newfound fascination with Gundam is helping things) and haven't gotten to the point where she actually shows up. (last thing I remember concretely was Jadeite's defeat, I don't think I've even gotten to where Jupiter shows up)

Now that I think of it, a Sailor Megazord would be a terrible idea if they let Sailor Moon pilot. Half of Tokyo would get accidentally stepped on/broken. The argument inside the head would be hilarious though.
Fund it.
Meanwhile, I'm slowly working on an OC for a Sailor Scout of the Jovian moon Io, because this fandom has already made me its slave in only three months. I really don't have the time to start up a solid Fanfic either. Maybe a short One-shot...

@Rainbow: Yeah, it helps as a starting point at least.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Eh, Haruka's general personality made her look like the type of person who's seen it all, and therefore is unafraid of anything in a fight. Australia is scary, man.
And Makoto would probably do well in the Highland games. Really, I just threw something out there. I find it hard to assign nationalitites to characters who already technically have one.
Rei could be a Southern American girl, like right in the Bible Belt.

Nice. Nothing closer to Europe as alternatives, though? I've recently decided to adapt a version of the Cast Herd expies for a European-based setting revolving around an Italian Michiru* and a French Haruka* , you see. Then again, maybe I could have the non-European girls immigrate to this new European Union; the US has fallen from its #1 superpower throne in this setting (Evangelion-based, hence suffering from a strong economic recessionnote ), while the EU is on its way to become a United Europe, with a newly restored democratic German Empire (yes, Empire; the Kaisers are back) at its helm and center.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Well, Rei could become a Catholic Spanish girl, and Hotaru could be German or Russian.

Well, Spanish Raye-expy and Russian Hotaru-expy it is!
You know, thinking back on Makoto's expy, I figure I might make a subtle in-joke at her inspiration's Huge Schoolgirl / Statuesque Stunner status and take her nationality from one of those countries/regions in this list whose population's average female height is at least 1.68 m; current candidates as Dinaric Alpsnote (1.711 m), Netherlands (1.707 m / 1.699 m), Denmark (1.687 m), Norway (1.682 m / 1.680 m), Belgium (1.681 m), and Germany (1.680 m).note
Oh, and Setsuna... Why make her Indian when we can go with Latino Is Brown?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. It was really an either or thing. She could be Brazilian too, or from the Carribean.

Is it just me, or do you keep putting emphasis on the weirdest details, instead of plot?
What can I say... I like being meticulous. The plot itself isn't a problem for the time being, in part because they're not major characters in the first place. Fleshing out the characters in terms of design, background, and so on so forth is a pressing issue though, as it controls such things as their possible countries of origin, what possible languages their names would be in, possible cultural influences, and even possible shout-outs (e.g. Haruka-expy is also an expy of Fatal Fury's King).

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Meticulousness is not, in itself, a bad thing. However, I think that you take it a bit far, the result being that you agonize over stuff like so much that it stops you from actually writing anything. Your thinking is in the way of your acting, dude.
Don't think, feel.
Also, I'd lay good odds that you put more thought into stuff like than any casual reader is ever going to.
Really, based on , it sounds like you're trying to do something closer to original fiction instead of fanfiction. Admittedly, there are times when the line can seem to get a little blurred, but maybe you could cut your teeth on some simpler stuff first?
For me, it helps to do most of while I'm still progressing the narrative. Then again, I hardly ever change a character's nationalities, so stuff like changing their names is pretty much a non-factor.
Actually, I don't as much time as you seem to think "agonizing" over that stuff, and that's even when taking into account the fact that I have limited time to spare for fanfic writing in the first place.
And I personally dislike Writing by the Seat of Your Pants to be honest, primarily because I recognize the big risks that it carries — that is, you can easily railroad yourself into a dead-end, end up with glaring plot holes despite your best intentions, and a host of other problems like that.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Something occurs to me. Why do they have to have non-Japanese names? They could be immigrants; Japanese ethnically (or half-Japanese), but still be citizens of some nation in Europe or whatever.
Actually, no, the actual overall plots I tend to work out well in advance (even if only a generalized, The Stations of the Canon-type of timeline), it's the little details that I just toss in there as they occur to me. Like Burning Vengeance's Yui Ikari happening to be a fan of Sonic The Hedgehog, or Shinji's choice of reading material, or even showcasing how Gendo sets about solving a logistics problem. These little character-building things kinda just work their way into the narrative while I'm steadily trudging toward the next plot point.
Speaking of, I've got some BV and #1 plot points I'd like to run by you via PM, if that's cool?
But back to Sailor Moon, I have a strange desire to do a take on the story if it was like a Gundam show. After all, one of the translations for "senshi" is "soldier". Handful of teenaged girls suddenly get superpowers and are drafted by a talking cat to fight an honest to god War against the Dark Kingdom.

The Passion of the Sailor Moon
It's a parody of the Four Gospels with Sailor Moon as Jesus, Tuxedo Mask as Mary Magdelene, the Twelve Disciples are Sailor Venus, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop, Sammy Davis Jr., Larry, Curly, Moe, and Shemp. Shemp later betrays Sailor Moon for thirty pieces of silver, a Nintendo DSI, and enough gas to get him to Canada.
Lupin III is the Apostle Paul of Tarsus.
Tokyo replaces Jerusalem, and the Celts replace the Romans. The Last Supper is held at Pizza Hut instead of the Upper Room.
Before Sailor Moon is crucified, she is subject to torture, including wedgies, swirlies, wet willies, purple-nurples, knuckle sandwiches, kancho, and the dreaded Rear Admiral.
But don't worry, she gets better. She does rise from the dead after three days.
And yes, this IS a mockery/satire of organized religion.
