...Huh, I don't even have to stretch to make Kain fit this one. Heck, Kain's entire UNIVERSE is like this. Kain himself is someone who is willing to kill and blackmail to accomplish his goals, the people he fights against the Red Legion, turn out that their main force isn't focused on random murder and carnage. Heck, even the human Mobile Government are a bunch of resource-stealing and native alien erasing people higher up.
Since I didn't have to really shoehorn the trope, how bout you use the same one, kay?
The conflict between the Xenobreakers, Chosen Order and the planetary forces that Rae belongs to can be seen as this if the XB and Chosen Order's higher ups aren't taken into account, since each side has their own valid moral points. The XB and Chosen Order's leaders, however, are firmly on the Black side of the morality scale.

Don't even need to shoehorn it - Ghi Yelgi wanted to be her rival so bad that he even de-zombified her to pursue the rivalry, and rivalry is kind of a mutual thing, especially given that she acknowledged it enough to give him the fight he wanted.
