Ah, yes! Saturdays are made for Mashup Week!

Mashup Week is a series of musical tournaments run by TheGuy. It was inspired by the King For a Day Tournament series by SiivaGunner, with tracks based on particular characters and their source list. In Mashup Week, competitors battle in a double-elimination bracket, with the winner determined by the fanbase's votes. The winner of the tournament receives the "Mashup Week", a week full of mashups based on their source list.

The original Mashup Week was hosted on Soundcloud from August 18th 2019 until February 18th 2020, with 16 competitors vying for the top spot. The winner of the original Mashup Week was Scott The Woz, leading to “Scott the Week,” a week of Scott the Woz-related mashups.

On April Fool’s Day, a video teasing a sequel to Mashup Week was teased, before a direct was released on April 10th, 2021, officially revealing Mashup Week: Megamix, with double the previous roster. Megamix is now being hosted on Mashup Week’s YouTube channel, instead of on Soundcloud.

The first track for Megamix was released on the same day, but the tournament did not begin until May 3rd, 2022, with matchups occuring weekly for 4 weeks, before taking a month-long break. Updates, story posts and character profiles are posted on Mashup Week's website.

Characters that appeared in the original

Characters that appear in Mashup Week: Megamix

Describe the hottest tropes on the block here!

Tropes that appear in both tournaments
  • Cool Old Guy: Biff Chitlins
  • Creepypasta: Herobrine's place of origin, as well as one of his musical sources in the sequel.
  • Inexplicable Language Fluency: In both tournaments, Flat Eric speaks French, but everyone can understand him perfectly. Same with Gigi, who speaks Italian.
  • Leitmotif: Smooth by Santana is used to represent the tournament as a whole.
  • No Indoor Voice: Several characters, including Heavy, Forum Freakshow, Lil' Darkie, MONSTERMAU5 and Elliana
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Lord Farquaad, despite what he wants you to believe, is all bark and no bite.
  • Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny: It’s a musical tournament that pits various fictional characters and real people against each other.

Tropes to appear in Mashup Week
  • Animate Inanimate Object: Cici, an IKEA chair built by Billie Eilish that gained sentience. She was later killed by Garfield and revived by Neil.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Garfield.
  • Grand Finale: Kart And Payload Insurance, the final track of the tournament between the final 3, Scott, Heavy and Geico Gaming.
  • Humanity Ensues: Cici was revived from the dead as a human by Neil Cicierega.

Tropes to appear in Mashup Week: Megamix
  • Aliens Speaking English: Hat Kid, Snail-Chan and Snailien aren’t from Earth, but they speak perfect English just fine.
  • April Fools' Day: Subverted. 2021's April Fool’s Day featured a poorly-made reveal trailer for Mashup Week 2... and then it switches to the actual trailer for Mashup Week: Megamix.
    • Played straight for 2022's April Fool’s Day, which featured a poorly-made reveal trailer for Mashup Week: Megamix 2.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Scatman & Hatman, Omega SoundClown and Gigi & Scoops, going from bosses in the first Mashup Week to full competitor or joining another veteran in the sequel.
    • Susie Haltmann went from a boss in the original to co-host alongside previous winner Scott in the sequel.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • True to form, Rick Hentai's reveal trailer features a double bait-and-switch. It starts out with footage of a S3RL DJ set, suggesting that he'll be the next character, but just as the music is building up it abruptly cuts to the video for "Never Gonna Give You Up"... only Rick Astley's vocals have been spliced together to make him sing the lyrics to S3RL's "MTC (Mastrubate To Cartoons)" instead.
    • In the results for gSports vs. Head Chef Heavy, the winner of the match is revealed to be... Scott the Woz, mimicking the finale of the original Mashup Week, and earning him a hit from Heavy's frying pan. The actual winner was gSports.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Said by Kid Cobra and Flat Eric after Susie allows Elliana to compete, despite the destruction she caused.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: Susie is the sane Straight Man to the Cloudcuckoolander Scott.
  • Buses Are for Freaks: There are plenty of oddballs on the bus to Megamix, including a sentient puppet (Flat Eric), a possessed musician (Neil), a child detective (Hat Kid), a gang leader (Ace), and even a weeaboo Rick Astley.
  • Call-Back: The drawing of Kyoko playing the saxophone seen in the video for "Spectres Of Misfortune" is a visual call-back to the first tournament's "Mouth Mollusk", which used a similar drawing of Neil in its video.
  • Christmas Episode:
  • Cruise Episode: Round 1 takes place on the Daisy Cruiser.
  • Decided by One Vote: Reanimatedd vs. Cadence in Round 1 came down to the wire, with the former ultimately pulling through by a single vote.
  • Demonic Possession:
    • Neil Cicierega, who had his body possessed by Bill Cipher, becoming Neil Cipher.
    • Forum Freakshow is likely to be Ray William Johnson possessed by the Omega SoundClown, based on his interactions with Scatman & Hatman.
Scatman John: Oh! H-Hello… Ray, was it?
Lou Bega: No… I think there’s more to it. Clown..? Is that really you in there?
Forum Freakshow: HAHAHA!! I’M SURPRISED [YOUUU] STILL RECOGNIZE ME.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Elliana was originally rejected over Kid Cobra, so she decides to kill him and destroy every other competitor along the way.
  • Don't Ask, Just Run: The warning that Lil Darkie gives to Brad and Poniko after swallowing half-a-dozen Joy Pills.
Lil Darkie: If I was you, I’d start fuckin’ runnin’. Cuz I ain’t even human.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: The competitors travelling on the bus meet the other competitors already with Scott and Susie by the end of The Arrival, Part 5.
  • Father Time: The Ruler of Everything.
  • Halloween Episode:
  • Humanoid Abomination:
    • Lil Darkie, who says that he isn’t human and is “an idea that you can not kill”. Especially after eating those Joy pills.
    • Forum Freakshow barely resembles a normal person anymore, with 2 Cyborg arms on his back and incredibly-jagged teeth
  • Internal Homage: The first-round match between gSports and Head Chef Heavy heavily references the first Mashup Week's grand finals, which both competitors were runners-up in. Their first versus track is named "Kart and Payload Insurance: Double Dash!!" after the original finals track "Kart and Payload Insurance", and features art in the style of the first tournament. The results video even briefly faked the audience out by announcing Scott as the winner again, with the same total votes from the grand finals.
  • Leet Lingo: How CA7 and MAU5 speak, in conjunction with No Indoor Voice.
  • Lighthearted Rematch: Heavy and gSports have a re-match after the triple threat finale of the last tournament in Round 1. gSports wins.
  • Multinational Team:
    • Hot Ones, consisting of Joji (Japanese), and Rich Brian (Indonesian).
    • Club Bangers, consisting of Flat Eric (French), Baba (Italian), and Fatman Scoop (American).
    • Scatman & Hatman, consisting of Scatman John (American) and Lou Bega (German).
  • Multiversal Conqueror: Heaven Ascension DIO, having ascended to Heaven after winning Mashup Week in his universe, and desiring to conquer this tournament.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot:
    • Forum Freakshow, a Cyborg Clown YouTube Rapper.
  • No-Sell: Heaven Ascension DIO tries to hurt Ruler of Everything, but given that the latter is time itself, they weren’t harmed at all.
  • Occidental Otaku: Rick Hentai. He speaks with Japanese honorifics and carries a body pillow with him.
  • Physical God:
    • Ruler of Everything, based on what's been said above.
    • Following the lore from his game origin, Heaven Ascension DIO is also one, however in Megamix not only does his godhood is achieved by beating the Joestars, he also obtained the power of the Essence of the Week by winning the original mashup week with a 100% vote in the final match of his timeline as well.
  • Place Worse Than Death: Neil Cipher seems to view California as this, given how Kesha scared him by reminding him that she's from Cali.
  • Pun: Minion makes one after he and Farquaad defeat Tyler and the Grinch.
Minion: Now that's what I call an "Illumination"! Get it? See what I did there??
  • The Quiet One:
    • Brad Armstrong, who doesn't talk unless he wants or needs to.
    • Lofi Girl, who's so quiet that Scott didn't notice that she came into the interview room while he and Susie interviewed her.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge:
    • Elliana goes on a rampage against the Mashup Week Megamix bus for being rejected from the competition.
    • Lil Darkie and Wendigo get into a destructive fight with each other over a cigarette lighter.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Lil Darkie, who usually can't go a sentence without saying a swear or two.
  • Special Person, Normal Name: The name of the Mutant Enderman accompanying Herobrine? Craig.
  • That Man Is Dead: To Joji, his previous character of Filthy Frank is gone now. Possibly.
  • Valentine's Day Episode: The Track i miss u 💔 was uploaded to celebrate 2022's Valentine's Day.
  • Was Once a Man:
  • You Are What You Hate: MAD/EON is a version of Madeon who hates music... despite being a musician himself.
    • It's revealed in his interview that he's trying to regain his passion for music by working alongside other musicians, as well as "doing a favor" for someone he refuses to elaborate on.
