This page is a list of video examples that need to be reviewed in the Quality Control thread.
Specific Tropes
- Animation Bump:
- The Big City Greens videos "Hurty Tooth" and "Chipwrecked" fail to show how they are an example. While the description claims that Season 1 didn't have the power to animate certain facial expressions, this isn't backed up or shown by the videos (the part that actually matters).
- The Mickey's PhilharMagic video doesn't show the shift in animation. Additionally, if the description is correct, then it would actually fall under Art Shift (since the animation is being shifted to CG for one segment).
- Anti-Frustration Features: The video example from Cradle Of Empires is flipped 90 degrees. Probably just an exporting/rendering error.
- Astronomic Zoom: The video has a strange black border around it.
- Big Damn Heroes:
- The My Hero Academia video is a good example, but the first 30 seconds or so could be trimmed off.
- The video for Avengers: Infinity War is a good example, but there isn't any sound.
- Canines Gambling in a Card Game: The Cartoon Network bumper is very blurry.
- The Chosen Many: The So This Is Basically... video cuts off the last word.
- Cooldown Hug: The example from Steven Universe: Future titled "Gem Hug" features a major spoiler - namely, all the characters saving Steven from his monstrous state. Note that this video does have a spoiler warning in both the first few seconds and the description, so the only real change needs to be made to the thumbnail to avoid showing the characters in the video.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: The One Piece video is too long; the first minute or so could be removed.
- Cuteness Proximity: "Ezra Hands Her Happy" has several issues. The description capitalizes every word (and doesn't name the character being handed the cute critters - the name of "Her" is Milliana), the last 30 seconds or so should be trimmed, and it might fit better under Victoria's Secret Compartment.
- Daywalking Vampire: "Vampire Family Loves Daylight" video is missing a media source.
- Dies Wide Open: The A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017) example in Dies Wide Open contains a major series-wide spoiler in its title, thumbnail, and contents.
- Dirty Coward: The The Social Network video is just a character briefly flinching upon being physically threatened. He doesn't toss people under the bus to save his skin.
- Disaster Dominoes: The Care Bears video could have about 35 seconds trimmed off the end.
- Distracted by the Sexy: The Aladdin video is mostly fine, but it cuts off in the middle of a line.
- Eating the Eye Candy: Four of the videos note are missing a source.
- Establishing Series Moment: The Doctor Who example is too long, it spends too much time prior to the reveal and too little time after.
- Evil All Along: The first twenty seconds of the Frozen video is unnecessary and could be cut so the video starts with Anna explaining to Hans about her current state.
- Evil Overlord: The Dragon Ball Z video might not clearly show the trope; it just shows a single powerful individual making a Badass Boast, while the trope requires that an Evil Overlord command some armies or rules an Evil Empire or something of that nature. None of this is demonstrated in the video.
- Expy: The The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Disney)/Wolfwalkers example is misuse of the trope. The Lord Protector from Wolfwalkers is a Historical Domain Character based on Oliver Cromwell, so it's unlikely that he's meant to be an Expy of Frollo. Expies have to be intentionally based on another character in order to qualify for the trope, which isn't the case here.
- Face Death with Dignity: Hitman does not clearly illustrate the trope. A character calls the trope by name, but none of the other actions are clear without context. Dropping guns after what looks like a Mexican standoff and crossing swords into a pattern means nothing if you don't know the material, and it doesn't even look like they're about to die.
- Failed a Spot Check: One of the Phineas and Ferb video examples doesn't demonstrate the trope - Candace forgot to specify which window to look out of, so Linda accidentally looked out the wrong one (both vids are titled "Phineas and Ferb", the bad one is the vid with the thumbnail of Candace in her room).
- Female Gaze: There are currently six unsourced video examplesnote . Additionally, two of them ("Skins Team" and "Paulo's Butt") are of very poor quality and may or may not be from NSFW sources.
- Feud Episode: The Pokémon Journeys example is sideways, and some of the text in the description is also messed up.
- Filler Villain: While all four examples from Spider-Man (PS4) are minor villains, they don't represent this trope very well.
- Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: The Wolfwalkers video doesn't demonstrate the trope very well. While it does show Robyn's tomboyish side with her desire to be a hunter like her father and not wanting to do chores all day, it doesn't show any of her feminine traits.
- Gonk: In the Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time video, the subject of the video doesn't particularly fit the criteria for being a gonk (he's just a sorta-ugly armadillo), nor does the video really highlight his appearance.
- Halloween Songs: The last 26 seconds of the video from The Amazing World of Gumball aren't relevant to the trope.
- Hero Stole My Bike: The Miraculous Ladybug video is very blurry.
- Hollywood Hacking: The Sly 2: Band of Thieves video should be shortened - just the first computer will suffice.
- Homage: The comparison between Bewitched and WandaVision uses a clip of the latter that has an odd choppiness for the first few seconds.
- In Name Only: The Overly Sarcastic Productions video is misuse. The video discusses how the titular character of Samurai Jack does not resemble real samurai, which is Artistic License – History. In Name Only is about adaptations that are completely different from the source material.
- Insulted Awake: The Big City Greens example is misuse. She's yelling at her cat to wake it up, it didn't wake up because it felt insulted.
- Interspecies Adoption: The beginning of the Dinosaur Train video appears corrupted.
- It Only Works Once: The Big City Greens example doesn't demonstrate a technique only being usable once, it's just a name that can't be changed once picked.
- Leonine Contract: The Helluva Boss example is a fair enough video for Read the Fine Print, which isn't even listed as a secondary trope, but there's no apparent pressure on them to sign the contract shown in the clip. He immediately retracts it when they notice what he's trying to slip by them.
- Living Macguffin: The Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves example, "The Guru" doesn't really explain how the character is a living MacGuffin.
- Mentor Occupational Hazard: The A New Hope video doesn't need the first minute and a half since the trope doesn't happen until the end. Also, the sound is noticeably pitched up.
- Milestone Celebration: The "Happy 20th Trogday!" video is missing the media source: Homestar Runner (it is not a Strong Bad Email in itself).
- My Instincts Are Showing: The Chikn Nuggit video is an entire TikTok.
- Non-Standard Game Over: The Total Distortion entry should be moved to Have a Nice Death. The video also exceeds 150 seconds.
- Not-So-Harmless Villain: The video titled Mega Mojo Jojo might need to be checked to see if it violates epileptic lights guidelines, since it features fast strobe effects and is currently the top video on the page.
- Old Shame: The Spoony Experiment video cuts off his last word and doesn't need auto-generated YouTube captions.
- Once an Episode: None of the videos actually demonstrate that it happens in every episode or even more than once. The trope cannot be concisely represented except as a clip show.
- Opening Narration: The Secret of Kells is Opening Monologue (Opening Narration is for repeated narrations throughout a series, Opening Monologue is for one-time narrations).
- The Other Darrin: "She recast Pietro?" video: The Avengers: Age of Ultron segment risks running too long. The WandaVision segment features common YouTube distractions (e.g. the distracting bell) but the part where we see who's at the door can probably be kept.
- Our Werewolves Are Different: The Wolfwaker video is a 2:30 long trailer. Probably needs to be trimmed.
- Overly Long Gag: The Family Guy video where Peter hurts his knee is uploaded twice - the first one was uploaded two years before the second one.
- Power Makes Your Hair Grow: The Dragon Ball Z video is a solid example, but the video is twice the length it needs to be. It could start at roughly the halfway point and still work.
- The Power of Hate: The Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus video does not demonstrate the trope and is pretty much the opposite of the trope: power fueled by hatred does not work for Barbie.
- Punch-Clock Villain: The The Life and Times of Juniper Lee example has the video player bar show up in the top left corner of the screen for a few seconds.
- Refuge in Audacity: Both of the videos for The Mentalist start off corrupted for a few seconds.
- Ridiculous Future Sequelisation: The video example is almost all filler and is actually an In-Universe example of Sequelitis.
- Sarcasm Mode: This trope is a non-example trope, which violates "Rule #9: The trope itself permits regular text examples."
- Shock and Awe: The "Lightning rain" video doesn't follow the trope. The titular rain isn't a person or beast with lightning-based powers, nor is it an object that grants lightning-based powers. It is a natural(ish) phenomenon that happens to shock people unfortunate enough to be caught in it. If anything, it fits more in line with Hostile Weather or Weird Weather.
- Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: The Erma videos loophole themselves out of the 2:30 limit by splitting into two videos labeled as parts 1 and 2. The total combined is runtime 3:49.
- Stuffed into the Fridge: The video on the Kingdom Hearts page is a major spoiler for a moment late in the series. It would be best to have it only on the Kingdomhearts III page so people who aren't completely caught up to the series can still read the main franchise page without being spoiled.
- Surprise Car Crash: The car crash in the Infamous 2 video is not a surprise at all. An actual example would have a car interrupt a casual scene and cause Mood Whiplash.
- Tear Jerker: This has video examples, despite being entirely an Audience Reaction.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Batman vs. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, does not clearly illustrate the trope on its own. They're eating pizza but there's no mention of it being anyone's favorite food, and several characters that aren't the turtles are eating it too. Feels like any other dinner scene without context.
- Transformation Sequence: Just the first of Sailor Moon's transformations would suffice, and the video should fit the vertical height of the video player while keeping the 4:3 aspect ratio.
- [Trope Name]: The video from Breadwinners: The video titled "SwaySway and Buhduece’s feud" seems to have nothing to do with the trope.
- The Unfettered: Coco's video quality is poor and has a strange choppiness. Not to mention that it needs to be trimmed down.
- Vampires Sleep in Coffins: The Hellsing example is good, but the last 30 seconds or so of the clip is unrelated to the trope.
- Villainous Breakdown: One Piece: Very little of the clip actually shows Crocodile's breakdown. His composure only really cracks for a second or two and it doesn’t quite fit the spirit of the trope.
- Villain Love Song: The Helluva Boss example doesn't need the after-song animation and credits.
- Wham Line: Both The Empire Strikes Back and The Social Network videos are too long and could be trimmed.
Works that Attract Misuse
- ColeyDoesThings: The Dragon Prince videos are fanworks and have its videos in the official source.
- Dorkly Originals: Most of the videos are reuploads of animations in their entire or near-entirety. The only exceptions are the examples for Right Behind Me and Weather Report.
- Jreg: Several videos are reuploads of entire or near-entire YouTube videos, violating fair use (Kill the Poor, It's All About Me, Postmodernism, Insane Troll Logic, Skewed Priorities, Straw Character (only "Eco-Fascist", the others are fine), Became Their Own Antithesis (both videos), Rule 34 – Creator Reactions, Faux-To Guide, Song Parody, A Day in the Limelight, Villain Song (only "Lil' Nas(bol)"), Satire, and Death Seeker (only "'I Want To Die In A War'").
- Moshi Monsters: All of the video examples are entire reuploads of music videos.
- Team Fortress 2: Several trailers and Meet the Team videos have been uploaded in either their entirety or near-entirety (Sociopathic Soldier, The Big Guy, The Medic, Man Versus Machine, Hero Shooter, and Tuxedo and Martini). The use of entire videos is also unnecessary to demonstrate certain tropes, when a much shorter clip would have sufficed.
- Hamilton: The Orphanage of Love and Afterlife Welcome examples are from Ziksua's "Who lives, who dies, who tells your story" animatic, and Ziksua isn't credited in the description. These videos would be better sourced under FanWorks.Hamilton, with proper credit to the artist. Additionally, the Afterlife Welcome only happens within the animatic and not in the musical itself.
