Earth's Scariest Monsters is an original fictional story written by gelefant.

The story deals with the origins and exploits of a team of monsters called the Scaredron.

  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: As a werewolf, David's claws are sharp enough to slash guns to pieces. Vorigan, Morgana, and Malphas also have unusually sharp claws.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Adofo's royal advisor Hamadi wants power for power's sake, despite the fact that he's already in a powerful position as a royal advisor to a pharaoh.
  • Ancient Egypt: The beginning of "An Ancient Curse" takes place during this time.
  • Animal Lover: Ashley is described as one, especially if the animal in question is a horse.
  • Anti-Christmas Song: Aspen and Jermaine sing a few of these with a ghostly choir.
  • Beard of Evil: Hamadi has a black goatee and mustache. He hates Adofo and wants to usurp him.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: Isabelle wears big, round glasses and is always energetic and smiling.
  • Big Red Devil: Malphas is a giant demon with horns, red skin, claws, and an arrowhead-tipped tail.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Melody's white shirt is emblazoned with a sky blue M.
  • Casting a Shadow: Malphas can control darkness/shadows and dark energy.
  • Childhood Friends: Dr. Victor Stein and Petunia are this to each other.
  • Christmas Episode: "Scary Christmas."
  • Chest Insignia: As mentioned above, Melody's white shirt is emblazoned with a sky blue M.
  • Chummy Mummy: Adofo retains his good, loving nature even as an undead mummy.
  • Classical Movie Vampire: Vorigan has a widow's peak, wears a nice suit, and has a cape.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Hamadi dresses in villainous dark colors.
  • Combination Attack: In "Divine Conflict," David combines his sonic howl with Frankenstorm's electricity to knock Malphas back down. It only works for about a minute or two.
  • Commonality Connection: Isabelle and Jermaine bond over their shared love of Halloween, monsters, and mysteries.
  • Creating Life: Dr. Victor Stein creates Frankenstorm and later brings him to life using lightning.
  • Creepy Blue Eyes: Malphas is a fire demon from Hell with light, watery blue eyes as a result of consumption of pure souls.
  • Creepy Cemetery:
    • The cemetery in which Dr. Victor Stein goes Grave Robbing definitely qualifies.
    • The cemetery Isabelle and Jermaine walk through at the beginning of "The Undead King" also counts since they visit it on Halloween night under a full moon. There's even Ominous Fog. It becomes even more so after Dracula shows up.
  • Cue the Sun: The Sun rising is what ultimately defeats Dracula.
  • Cute Ghost Girl: Nicholette, after she dies and becomes a ghost. Ashley also counts.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Subverted. Morgana's fangs are noticeably smaller than Vorigan's, but she's more hot than cute.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Isabelle, Aspen, and Ashley are all described as snarky.
  • Demon Lords and Archdevils: Malphas is the Devil's right hand man.
  • Demonic Possession: Nicholette tries this on Dracula, but it doesn't work.
  • Despotism Justifies the Means: Everything Hamadi does is to attain power for the sake of power and usurp Adofo as pharaoh.
  • Devil in Plain Sight: Hamadi is a skinny, shifty, and diabolical person who dresses in dark colors, but nobody seems to regard him as anything more than a disfavored servant, at worst.
  • Dork in a Sweater: Isabelle wears a mauve sweater, has big round glasses, and is described as incredibly intelligent.

  • Einstein Hair: Dr. Victor Stein sometimes has this.
  • Evil Chancellor: Hamadi is Adofo's ambitious and scheming right-hand man.
  • Evil Is Burning Hot: Malphas is an evil fire demon from Hell who has fire powers.
  • Fainting: Two examples from "Scary Christmas."
    • A teenage girl faints from the sight of fake eyeballs floating in her hot cocoa.
    • A little boy passes out from shock after being scared by the snowman Ashley and Aspen create.
  • Fangs Are Evil: Vorigan and Morgana are evil vampires with pronounced fangs.
  • Fantastic Fireworks: At the end of "Scary Christmas," all of the ghosts combine their powers to create fireworks in the shape of a skull.
  • Fight Dracula: The Scaredron fight Dracula on Halloween night in "The Undead King."
  • Fighting Your Friend: Jermaine and the Scaredron have to fight Isabelle after Dracula turns her into a vampire in "The Undead King."
  • Flaming Skulls: The snowman Ashley and Aspen create has a flaming skull for a head.
  • Flesh Golem: Frankenstorm is made up of the dead body parts of criminals.
  • Flight: Vorigan, Morgana, and Dracula are capable of flight. Nicholette can also fly after becoming a ghost.
  • Fog Feet:
    • After she dies and becomes a ghost, Nicholette has a long, wispy tail instead of feet and legs.
    • Aspen has a long, wispy tail instead of legs and feet.
  • Forgot Their Own Birthday: Dr. Victor Stein forgets that it's his birthday due to being busy with creating Frankenstorm.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: Frankenstorm, as indicated by his name and appearance.
  • Friendly Ghost:
    • Nicholette is just as caring and friendly as a ghost as she was in life.
    • Aspen and Ashley were each caring and friendly in life and remain so as ghosts.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Vampire/Vegetarian Vampire: Vorigan tries to be this way centuries after his and Morgana's plot to Take Over the World fails.
  • Genki Girl: Isabelle is always full of energy.
  • Ghostly Animals:
    • A ghostly black dog appears at the beginning of "The Disembodied" and kills Nicholette.
    • In "Haunted Christmas," Aspen and Jermaine ride in a sleigh pulled by ghostly reindeer.
  • Glowing Eyelights of Undeath:
    • As a mummy, Adofo's eyes glow yellow.
    • The ghostly black dog that attacks and kills Nicholette has glowing, blood red eyes.
  • Good Colors, Evil Colors: The good pharaoh Adofo wears mostly blue and gold, while his scheming royal advisor Hamadi wears dark colors.
  • Gotta Get Your Head Together: Nicholette clutches her head with her hands after her recurring dreams and visions become too much for her.
  • Grave Robbing: Dr. Victor Stein digs up the graves of criminals and steals body parts from them to get parts for his monster.
  • Growing Muscles Sequence: David's muscles crack and pop as he turns into a werewolf.
  • Halloween Episode: "The Undead King" takes place on Halloween night.
  • Hand Blast:
    • Nicholette can fire ectoplasmic energy blasts from her hands as part of her ghost powers.
    • Malphas can fire dark energy blasts from his hands.
    • Melody can fire beams of light from her hands.
  • Haunted Headquarters: The Scaredron's headquarters is an old, dilapidated house implied to be haunted. However, it's not clear if it was already haunted before they moved in or only became so afterwards.

  • Healing Hands: Melody can heal others, the power of which manifests itself as her hands glowing white. At the end of "Divine Conflict," she heals the injuries the Scaredron sustained during their fight with Malphas.
  • Hearing Voices: After she dies and becomes a ghost, Nicholette begins to hear voices in the back of her head telling her to put together a team.
  • Hellfire: This is the kind of fire that Malphas can manipulate.
  • Hellhound: A ghostly black dog appears at the beginning of "The Disembodied" and kills Nicholette.
  • Hell Invades Heaven: Malphas and the Devil want to enslave and/or destroy Heaven.
  • Hell on Earth: Malphas and the Devil want to enslave and/or destroy Earth.
  • Holy Burns Evil: The Scaredron use crosses and vials of holy water to subdue Isabelle and the other people Dracula turned into vampires in "The Undead King."
  • Holy Halo: A yellow halo floats over Melody's head.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: In "Divine Conflict," Melody uses her divine light powers to defeat Malphas.
  • Horns of Villainy: Malphas is an evil demon from Hell with large horns. One horn is chipped, and the other horn is cracked.
  • Horror Hunger: Vorigan and Morgana need to drink/feed on the blood of the living to maintain their powers and immortality.

    Tropes I to L 
  • Ice Crystals: Sharp, jagged icicles jut out from Aspen's forearms and shoulders. Also, a ring of similarly shaped icicles encircles his waist.
  • An Ice Person: Aspen has ice powers as a result of dying in a ski boarding accident.
  • Involuntary Shapeshifting: David has no control over his transformation into a werewolf.
  • Jerkass: Hamadi isn't just evil, he's plain unpleasant on a personal level. He's conniving, manipulative, self-centered, and treacherous.
  • Lean and Mean: Hamadi is the skinny, scheming royal advisor to Adofo.
  • Light 'em Up: Melody has light powers. Divine/sacred light, to be specific.
  • Light Is Good: Melody is angel who has light powers and wears all-white clothing.
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: Frankenstorm is brought to life by a large bolt of purple lightning.
  • Looks Like Orlok: Vorigan and Morgana have claws, pale blue skin, pointed ears, and pronounced fangs.
  • Lunacy: The appearance of a full moon triggers David's transformation into a werewolf.

    Tropes M to P 
  • Mad Scientist: Dr. Victor Stein, but he's a downplayed example. Although everybody thinks he's crazy and dangerous, he never does anything even remotely illegal or immoral, until he sneaks into a cemetery, digs up the graves of criminals, and steals their body parts to create a monster.
  • Mad Scientist Laboratory: Dr. Victor Stein has one.
  • Magic Pants: The top half of David's jeans remain even after he turns into a werewolf.
  • Maker of Monsters: Dr. Victor Stein creates Frankenstein monster Frankenstorm.
  • Manly Tears: Jermaine cries after Isabelle is returned to normal after having been turned into a vampire by Dracula in "The Undead King."
  • Mighty Glacier: Frankenstorm is big and strong, but he can't move very fast.
  • Mind over Matter: Nicholette gains telekinesis as one of her ghost powers.
  • Monochrome Apparition:
    • Nicholette's ghost is bluish-white.
    • Aspen's ghost is pure white, the only exception being his black eyes and mouth.
  • Monster Mash: The Scaredron's members are werewolf David Lykus, mummy Adofo, Frankenstein monster Frankenstorm, vampire Vorigan, and ghost Nicholette.
  • Monster Modesty: The top half of David's jeans are the only piece of clothing he retains as a werewolf.
  • Mummy: Adofo rises as a mummy over 3,000 years after his murder.
  • Mummy Wrap: Adofo is a benign version of this as he uses his bandages to rescue two kids after they fall from the top of an apartment building.
  • Nepharious Pharaoh: Averted. Adofo loves, and is loved, by everybody. He even treats his subjects like family.
  • Nighttime Transformation: David's werewolf transformation happens at night under a full moon.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Frankenstorm is every bit as monstrous as the original Frankenstein's Monster, but he's a big sweetheart who loves giving equally big hugs.
  • No-Sell: Malphas is completely immune to Nicholette's possession attempts.
  • Ominous Fog: Fog sways and swirls around the graves in the already-Creepy Cemetery Isabelle and Jermaine walk through at the beginning of "The Undead King."
  • Origins Episode: The first five chapters serve as one for the Scaredron.
  • Our Angels Are Different: Melody is an angel.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Malphas is a fire demon from Hell.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different:
    • Nicholette becomes a ghost after she's killed by a ghostly black dog.
    • Aspen became a ghost after dying in a ski boarding accident.
    • Ashley became a ghost after dying in a forest fire while out hunting on a Saturday afternoon.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: Vorigan and Morgana. It's never made clear if they were born or turned into vampires.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: David Lykus is bitten by and becomes a werewolf at the beginning of "Full Moon Beast." For reasons unknown, he's unable to change back into a human.
  • Painful Transformation: David drops to the ground in pain right before he turns into a werewolf. During the actual transformation, his bones and muscles crack and pop.
  • Playing with Fire:
    • Ashley has fire powers as a result of dying in a forest fire.
    • Malphas, a fire demon from Hell, also naturally has fire powers.
  • Pointy Ears: David has these as a werewolf. Vorigan and Morgana also have these.
  • The Power of Blood: As mentioned above, the blood of the living fuels Vorigan and Morgana's powers and immortality.
  • Prehensile Tail: Malphas can use his long tail to grab and pick up objects and people.
  • Pubescent Braces:
    • Ashley, who's still a teenager, had these in life and still has them in death.
    • The above also applies to Melody.
  • Punch Catch:
    • Vorigan does this to Morgana during their fight at the end of "A Clash of Blood and Fangs."
    • Dracula does this to Vorigan during their battle in "The Undead King."

    Tropes R to Z 
  • Rays from Heaven:
    • These shine down on Aspen, Jermaine, and a ghostly choir in "Scary Christmas" as they sing anti-Christmas carols.
    • These are how Melody makes her entrance in "Divine Conflict."
  • Recurring Dreams: After she dies and becomes a ghost, Nicholette has recurring dreams and visions about a certain mummy, vampire, and werewolf.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over:
    • Vorigan is an evil vampire whose cape and clothes are black and red.
    • Malphas is an evil demon from Hell with red skin covered in black splotches.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning:
    • Vorigan is an evil vampire with blood red eyes.
    • The ghostly black dog that attacks and kills Nicholette also has blood red eyes, albeit ones that glow.
    • Isabelle's eyes turn a purplish red after Dracula turns her into a vampire.
  • Red Is Violent: Malphas is a red fire demon from Hell who enjoys causing chaos and destruction.
  • Romantic Vampire Boy: Vorigan is this for Morgana. However, it's downplayed since she's also a vampire.
  • Sand Blaster: Adofo has this as one of his mummy powers.
  • Scary Stitches: Frankenstorm was cobbled together from the body parts of dead criminals and has stitches running across most of his body.
  • Shock and Awe: Controlling electricity is one of Frankenstorm's main powers. Interestingly, his electricity is purple like the purple lightning bolt that brought him to life.
  • Shapeshifting Excludes Clothing: All that remains of David's clothes after he turns into a werewolf are the top half of his jeans.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Silver Bullet: The Scaredron keep a stash of silver bullets in their basement.
  • Skeleton Motif: At the end of "Scary Christmas," all of the ghosts combine their powers to create a Fantastic Fireworks display in the shape of a skull.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Isabelle wears big, round glasses and is described as incredibly intelligent.
  • Snowlems: Ashley combines her fire powers with Aspen's ice powers to create a living snowman with a flaming skull for a head. Said snowman chases after and frightens a little boy so bad that he passed out from shock.
  • Soul Eating: Malphas consumes souls. He has a preference for pure souls, which is why his eyes are the shade of blue that they are.
  • Spin Attack/Spin to Deflect Stuff: Dracula spins in place to clear away the sandstorm Adofo creates in "The Undead King."
  • Stronger with Age: Morgana is over 200 years older than Vorigan and stronger than him because of it.
  • Supernatural Light: Ashley's body gives off a white glow.
  • Supernatural Team: The Scaredron are a team of monsters who protect humans from evil paranormal/supernatural creatures.
  • Super-Senses: Vorigan, Morgana, and Dracula all have heightened senses. David also gains enhanced senses after becoming a werewolf.
  • Super-Scream: David can unleash ultrasonic howls as part of his werewolf powers. The howls are accompanied by blue soundwaves.
  • Super Smoke: Vorigan, Morgana, and Dracula can turn into clouds of smoke.
  • Super-Speed: As vampires, Vorigan, Morgana, and Dracula are far faster than any normal human. David also gains super speed after becoming a werewolf.
  • Super-Strength: As vampires, Vorigan, Morgana, and Dracula are far stronger than any normal human. David as a werewolf, Adofo as a mummy, Frankenstorm as a Frankenstein monster, Malphas as a demon, and Melody as an angel are also super strong.
  • Tail Slap: During their fight in n "Divine Conflict," Malphas tries to slam Melody with his tail. She blocks it with one of her wings.
  • Take Over the World: This is Vorigan and Morgana's goal for the first half of "A Clash of Blood and Fangs." They end up failing.
  • Tomboy: Ashley is described as one.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Nicholette and Melody wear their hair like this.
  • The Trickster: Isabelle is described as being an occasional trickster.
  • Transformation Horror: David's transformation into a werewolf is described in somewhat graphic detail.
  • Transformation Sequence: David's transfomration into a werewolf is long and painful.
  • Undead Barefooter: As a mummy, Adofo wears no shoes.
  • Undeathly Pallor:
    • Vorigan and Morgana, both vampires, have pale blue skin.
    • Ashley, a ghost, also has pale blue skin.
  • Vampires Hate Garlic: The Scaredron use garlic to repel Isabelle and the rest of the people Dracula turned into vampires in "The Undead King."
  • Vampiric Draining: This is how Vorigan and Morgana obtain blood.
  • Weakened by the Light:
    • As vampires, Vorigan, Morgana, and Dracula are weakened by sunlight. This is how Dracula dies at the end of "The Undead King."
    • Malphas is weakened by divine/sacred light.
  • Weak to Fire: Both Adofo and Frankenstorm have crippling physical weaknesses to fire, which Malphas exploits in "Divine Conflict."
  • Werewolf Theme Naming: David's last name is Lykus, and he's turned into a werewolf at the beginning of "Full Moon Beast."
  • Winged Humanoid: Melody has large, white bird wings jutting out from her back.
  • Wonderful Werewolf: David becomes a werewolf but maintains his caring personality.
  • Wooden Stake: The Scaredron use wooden stakes (along with crosses, holy water and garlic to subdue Isabelle and the other people Dracula turned into vampires in "The Undead King." They also try to use these on Dracula himself, but he dodges every single one.
  • Zombie Gait: Adofo slowly shambles out of his sarcophagus after he rises as a mummy.
  • Zombify the Living:
    • Vorigan and Morgana turn a large amount of living humans into undead vampires as part of their plan to Take Over the World.
    • Dracula turns Isabelle and several other people into vampires in "The Undead King."
