Discharge! is an original fictional story written by gelefant.

It deals with the origins and exploits of the superheroine Discharge, her allies, and her enemies.

    Tropes A to I 
  • Action Girl: Nancy, Gina, and Marina all count by virtue of being strong superheroines.
  • Battle in the Rain:
    • At the end of "Charged Up," Nancy shoots lightning up at the clouds and makes it rain. As a result, the rest of her battle with Clay happens during a thunderstorm.
    • At the end of "Cold and Hot," Marina uses her powers to summon a rainstorm. Consequently, the rest of her fight with Pyralis happens in the rain.
  • Blue Means Cold: Mystral has ice powers and wears mostly blue. Her eyes, hair, and lips also have blue in them.
  • Braving the Blizzard: Jermaine does this in the chapter of the same name to try and get through to Mystral, who caused the blizzard in the first place with her powers. He succeeds.
  • Breath Weapon:
    • Pyralis can breathe fire.
    • Marina has frost breath.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Gina's superhero costume is emblazoned with a gray, capital G with tattered ends.
  • Cain and Abel: Marina is firmly on the side of good, but her oldest sister Pyralis is firmly on the side of evil. Mystral is somewhere in the middle.
  • Casting a Shadow:
    • Zila is a shadow creature who can control darkness/shadows and dark energy.
    • Mystral can also fire off dark energy.
  • Cerebro Electro: Nancy is described as the most intelligent girl in her school and she later gains electrical abilities.
  • Chest Insignia:
    • Nancy's superheroine costume is emblazoned with four diagonal purple lightning bolts.
    • Clay's supervillain costume is emblazoned with a brown symbol resembling a land or rock formation.
    • As mentioned above, Gina's superheroine costume is emblazoned with a gray capital G with tattered ends.
    • Mystral's sweater is emblazoned with a white symbol resembling a glacier or icicles.
    • Marina's Civvie Spandex is emblazoned with a blue raindrop.
    • Pyralis' dress is emblazoned with a red-and-yellow flame.
  • Christmas Episode: "Braving the Blizzard."
  • Civvie Spandex: Marina's superhero "costume" is just a T-shirt emblazoned with a blue raindrop symbol, a pleated blue skirt, and black flats.
  • Class Princess: Nancy is described as the most beautiful, intelligent, and popular girl at her school. She also cares deeply for others, enjoys tutoring, is friends with everybody, tries to make everyone feel included, and willing to help those in need. Unsurprisingly, she's admired and looked up to.
  • Creepy Cemetery: Gina and Jermaine spend most of "Haunted Heroine" in two of these. Both cemeteries are frequented/haunted by ghosts, there's Ominous Fog in the first one, and Zila and her shadow minions attacks the second one.
  • Cue the Sun: The sun rising is what ultimately defeats Zila and her shadow minions.
  • Dark Action Girl: Pyralis counts by virtue of being a strong supervillainess.
  • Dark Is Evil: Zila is a shadow creature who wears black, has Casting a Shadow powers, and is definitely evil.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Nancy's costume as Discharge is black and purple, but she's undeniably a heroine.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Clay gains earth-based powers after exposure to toxic waste during a landslide.
  • Electric Black Guy: Or Electric Black Girl, in this case. Nancy is an African-American teenage girl who gains electrical abilities.
  • Elemental Powers:
  • Ethereal White Dress: Gina has ghost powers, and her superhero costume is a tattered white dress.
  • Evil Is Burning Hot: Pyralis is an evil mutant with fire powers.
  • Eye Beams: Pyralis has heat vision.
  • Fainting: Nancy passes out after getting struck by lightning.
  • Fantastic Racism: Marina, and presumably her siblings as well, is discriminated against because she's a mutant.
  • Fast as Lightning: Nancy develops both electrical abilities and Super-Speed.
  • Fiery Redhead: Pyralis is this both literally and metaphorically.
  • Fireballs: Pyralis hurls these everywhere in "Cold and Hot."
  • Fire Is Red: Pyralis has fire powers and wears mostly orange and red. Her eyes, lips, and part of her hair are also red.
  • Flight:
    • Nancy has this as one of her powers.
    • Gina has this as one of her ghost powers.
  • Genki Girl: Nancy is described as being filled with boundless energy and full of life. She becomes even more so after gaining her powers.
  • Giant Wall of Watery Doom: At the end of "Cold and Hot," Marina summons a massive wave of water and sends it crashing down on Pyralis, ending their fight.
  • Good Parents: Nancy's parents are very helpful towards and supportive of her both before and after she gets her powers.
  • The Grinch: Mystral hates Christmas because she feels like it emphasizes her loneliness. This is why she uses her powers to try and ruin the holiday.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Pyralis is described as having a legendary short temper.
  • Halloween Episode: "Haunted Heroine."
  • Hand Blast:
  • An Ice Person:
    • Mystral has ice powers.
    • As mentioned above, Marina can release icy blasts from her hands and has frost breath.
  • Immune to Bullets: Clay becomes bulletproof after gaining his powers.
  • Intangibility: Gina has this as one of her ghost powers.
  • Invisibility: Gina has this as one of her ghost powers.
  • It's All About Me: Pyralis only cares about herself.
  • It's the Best Whatever, Ever!: At the end of "Haunted Heroine," Jermaine declares that particular Halloween as the best one he's ever had.

    Tropes L to P 
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: A big bolt of purple lightning strikes Nancy and gives her electrical abilities.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • Zila (a shadow creature) and her shadow minions have an aversion to bright light, especially if it's sunlight. The latter is what ultimately defeats them at the end of "Haunted Heroine."
    • As a mutant with fire powers, Pyralis is naturally weak against water.
  • Making a Splash: Marina has water powers.
  • Meaningful Name:
  • Mutants:
    • Mystral is a mutant with ice powers. Her blue sclerae, completely white irises, and Mystical White Hair indicate her mutation.
    • Marina is a mutant with water powers. Her blue hair, blue skin, webbed feet, and webbed hands indicate her mutation.
    • Pyralis is a mutant with fire powers. Her red eyes and orange skin indicate her mutation.
  • Mystical White Hair:
    • Gina has this as a side effect of her ghost powers.
    • Mystral has this to signify that she's a mutant with ice powers.
  • Nice Girl:
    • As mentioned above, Nancy fits this to a T.
    • Gina is also friendly and gets along well with everybody.
    • Marina cares about everyone and always tries to use her powers to help or nurture others.
  • The Night That Never Ends: As mentioned above, Zila wants to envelop the whole entire universe in darkness so she and other shadow creatures can be at full power all the time. She fails.
  • No-Sell: Clay is immune to electricity as a result/side effect of his earth-based powers.
  • Ominous Fog: Fog sways and swirls around the graves in the first cemetery Gina and Jermaine visit.
  • Origins Episode: The first chapter functions as this for Discharge herself.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Both of the cemeteries that Gina and Jermaine visit in "Haunted Heroine" are frequented/haunted by ghosts. The ghosts themselves are in various shades of blue, green, and/or purple.
  • Personality Powers:
  • Playing with Fire: Pyralis has fire powers.
  • The Pollyanna: Marina is an eternal optimist.
  • The Power of the Sun: Pyralis can absorb and manipulate solar energy.
  • The Prankster: Gina enjoys pulling pranks on others. Case in point: at the beginning of "Haunted Heroine," she scares Jermaine by phasing her hand up through the ground and grabbing his ankle. She laughs afterward.

    Tropes R to W 
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning:
    • Zila has red eyes and is an evil shadow creature.
    • Pyralis has red eyes and is an evil mutant.
  • Red Is Violent: Pyralis is an evil mutant with red eyes and partially red hair who thrives on chaos, destruction, and violence.
  • Sand Blaster: Clay can do this as part of his earth-based powers.
  • Scissors Cuts Rock: Clay is normally immune to electricity, but Nancy is able to mildly electrocute him after he's soaked by the thunderstorm she causes.
  • Sham Supernatural: Marina is occasionally mistaken for a mermaid because of her appearance and powers. She sometimes indulges this by pretending to be a mermaid and doing water tricks.
  • Shock and Awe: Nancy develops electrical abilities after getting struck by a huge bolt of purple lightning.
  • Shockwave Stomp: Clay can cause earthquakes by stomping the ground.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Nancy defeating Clay by electrocuting him while he's wet is exactly how Ash's Pikachu defeated Brock's Onix in the Pokémon: The Series episode "Showdown at Pewter City."
    • Gina being a ghostly superheroine with Mystical White Hair, green eyes, and Hand Blast powers is a clear reference to the eponymous character from Danny Phantom.
    • Zila's dialogue when she's hit by the light from a ghost energy-empowered flashlight is exactly the same as Zs'Skayr's in the Ben 10 episode "Ghostfreaked Out."
    • Zila's dialogue after she and her shadow minions are defeated is word-for-word the same as Dracula's when he's defeated at the end of the Ultimate Spider-Man (2012) Halloween Episode "The Howling Commandos."
    • Much of Mystral's dialogue when she explains why she hates Christmas is similar to Charlie Brown's feelings about the holiday at the beginning of A Charlie Brown Christmas.
  • Slumber Party: Nancy attends one at the beginning of "Charged Up."
  • Soul Power: Gina can control ectoplasmic/ghostly energy.
  • Super-Speed: Nancy develops this as one of her powers.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Pyralis is six feet tall and quite beautiful.
  • Super-Strength: Clay develops this as one of his powers.
  • Super-Toughness:
    • Clay develops this as one of his powers.
    • Marina also has this as one of her powers.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Marina wears her hair like this.
  • Toxic Waste Can Do Anything: Clay gets his powers as a result of toxic waste combining with a landslide.
  • Tragic Ice Character: Mystral has ice powers, low self-esteem, and gets lonely at times. This is why she hates Christmas.
  • The Vamp: Pyralis often tries to use her beauty to her advantage.
  • Water Is Blue: Marina has water powers and wears mostly blue. Her eyes, hair, lips, and skin are also blue.
  • Weather Manipulation:
    • Clay has a mild version of this as he's able to create sandstorms.
    • Nancy also has a mild version of this as she's able to create thunderstorms by firing lightning at clouds.
  • Weakened by the Light: As mentioned above, Zila and her shadow minions are weak against bright light, sunlight in particular. The latter is what ultimately defeats them at the end of "Haunted Heroine."
