Wacky Racing is a Wacky Races (2017) Self-Insert Fic written by gelefant.
It is about Jermaine hanging out with the Wacky Racers, especially Penelope.
Artwork for the fanfic can be found here and here.
Tropes:
- All Deserts Have Cacti: Averted. Saguaro cacti do indeed grow in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts.
- Ash Face: Dastardly and Muttley get this when the explosives they targeted at the other racers ricochet off nearby objects and literally blow up in their faces.
- Big Red Button:
- Dastardly has Muttley press one to launch explosives at the other racers.
- At the end of the story, Muttley pulls out a remote and presses a big blue button to launch explosives from the Mean Machine at Dastardly after Dick complains about the dog hugging him.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Penelope acknowledges the series doing this all the time.
- Daywalking Vampire: As in canon, Bela doesn't seem to have any trouble being out in the sunlight.
- Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: As usual, it gets him nowhere.
- Dramatic Stutter: Jermaine stutters a bit while talking to Penelope.
- Eyes Are Unbreakable: At the end, Dastardly is blown up by the explosives Muttley fires at him from the Mean Machine. Dastardly's reduced to a pile of ash with still-blinking eyes.
- Frankenstein's Monster: Tiny, as usual.
- Luminescent Blush: Jermaine blushes when Penelope hugs him after she congratulates him for getting through her driving lesson.
- Mythology Gag: The first race taking place on a Saturday morning is a reference to the original Wacky Races being a Saturday morning cartoon.
- Never My Fault: As usual, Dastardly unfairly blames Muttley when their plan to blow up the other racers backfires.
- Non-Fatal Explosions: As mentioned above, Dastardly and Muttley survive and have no injuries from the explosives blowing up in their faces.
- Our Vampires Are Different: Bela, as usual.
- Quaking with Fear: Subverted. Jermaine shakes like a leaf not out of fear but because he's nervous about meeting and trying to talk with Penelope.
- Self-Deprecation: Par for the course in canon. Penelope acknowledges the series constantly breaking the fourth wall, making meta jokes, and poking fun at itself.
- Shout-Out: Jermaine and Penelope encountering a roadrunner and a coyote while driving through the Mojave and Sonoran deserts is a clear reference to Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. Jermaine even admits he's always wanted to see Real Life coyotes and roadrunners up close.
