Characters / Warrior Cats Other ThunderClanners

Go To

"I've served my Clan for a long time, and it's nice to finally have some peace and quiet. I hope I get to stick around and enjoy it for many moons to come."
Goldenflower, Secrets of the Clans

The Clans are made up of much more than warriors. One must always remember the elders that tell tales of the past, the queens that bring new cats into the Clans, and the kits that will one day become the future of the Clans.

Beware of unmarked spoilers!

Note: Please add character tropes exclusive to Dawn of the Clans to the Dawn of the Clans character page, not here.

Elders

    Mothwhisker

Mothwhisker

"We should strike them by surprise, take the battle right to their camp, and show them that ThunderClan borders are as strong as they ever were."

An elder of ThunderClan during Morningstar's leadership.

  • Cool Old Guy: Advises Morningstar to fight back against WindClan, and claims he should be proud, not ashamed. Also participates in the attack on WindClan.
  • The Medic: A variation. Morningstar tells him to help the medicine cats during the attack on WindClan.

    Rabbitfur

Rabbitfur

"Watch out! Birchface managed to pounce without flattening any cats."

An elder during Mapleshade's time.

  • The Storyteller: Tells Petalkit and Larchkit a brief story about Birchface's skills. Also, offscreen, told Ravenwing about Petalkit and Larchkit being heavy-footed, unlike their presumed father Birchface.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Probably didn't realize that telling Ravenwing would lead to the kits and their mother being banished, their deaths, and their mother taking revenge on the Clans, and eventually going to the Dark Forest to haunt their descendants forever.

    Mumblefoot

Mumblefoot

"The day I stop hunting, Weedwhisker, is the day you can sit vigil for me."

One of the elders when Bluestar was young. Despite his age, he still hunts for himself and the other elders.

  • Cool Old Guy: He's generally pretty friendly to the kits in the camp and still hunts even though he's an elder.
  • Killed Offscreen: Like Weedwhisker, he's stated to have died of old age during a time skip in Bluestar's Prophecy.
  • The Mentor: To Rabbitleap and Robinwing.
  • Number Two: As revealed in Pinestar's Choice, he was Pinestar's first deputy.
  • The Rival: He and Goosefeather are rivals. He thinks of Goosefeather as a Lazy Bum and nothing else, criticizing his every decision.

    Weedwhisker

Weedwhisker

"Steady young 'un. He's served the Clan well for many moons. Don't turn against him now."

One of the elders when Bluestar was young.

  • Cool Old Guy: Friendly to the other cats, even Goosefeather.
  • Killed Offscreen: Like Mumblefoot, he's stated to have died of old age during a time skip in Bluestar's Prophecy.
  • Series Continuity Error: Like several cats, he's not seen or mentioned in Goosefeather's Curse, though he should be in ThunderClan by then.

    Larksong

Larksong

"With this life I give you humor. Use it to lighten the burdens of your Clan and lift the spirits of your Clanmates when despair threatens."

One of the elders when Bluestar was young. Is the mother of Sunstar and Featherwhisker.

  • Cool Old Lady: Gave Bluestar one of her nine lives.
  • Happily Married: To Flamenose.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted, there's another cat in ThunderClan in A Vision of Shadows and Squirrelflight's Hope who is also named Larksong, though he's a tom, not a she-cat.

    Stonepelt

Stonepelt

"A good warrior learns from his Clanmates."

A ThunderClan warrior who was forced to retire to the elder's den after the WindClan battle. He was Bluestar's first mentor and she named her son, Stonefur, after him.

  • Career-Ending Injury: He retires early due to a shoulder injury that didn't heal properly.
  • Cool Teacher: Bluepaw liked him because he was patient with her and didn't treat her like a mouse-brain.
  • The Mentor: He mentored Bluestar before he was forced to retire.
  • Nice Guy: A pleasant tom to be around. Bluepaw liked him as her first mentor because he was patient with her and didn't treat her like she was foolish. One some occasions, he would let her sleep in and then grab some fresh-kill to eat before he took her out training. Even after his injury and retirement, he was still friendly and easy to talk to.
  • Series Continuity Error: Like several cats, he's not seen or mentioned in Goosefeather's Curse, though he should be in ThunderClan by then.

    Smallear

Smallear

"You see that nick in my ear? I got that when I was an apprentice. An owl swooped out of nowhere. But I bet my claws left a bigger scar than this!"

A ThunderClan elder in the first arc.

  • The Apprentice: To Hollypelt.
  • Cool Old Guy: Particularly in the first book, when he shares his fresh-kill with Graypaw and Firepaw.
  • Ear Notch: He has a nick in his ear from fighting with an owl when he was an apprentice.
  • Grumpy Old Man: He's an elder and, according to Patchpelt, he'd complain if StarClan descended from Silverpelt themselves to bring his bedding. Indeed, he constantly complains of stiffness, or foretelling doom for the Clan due to Firestar's late deputy ceremony. He even complains that Firestar nearly drowned him when pulling him across the river to save his life.
  • Killed Offscreen: Dies off-screen in the interim between The Darkest Hour and Firestar's Quest.
  • Meaningful Name: He was named after his very small ears.
  • The Mentor: To White-eye (One-eye) and Sweetpaw.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Outlives his son, Lionheart.
  • Self-Serving Memory: When Tawnypaw is a little late while bringing bedding for the elders, Smallear tells her that her father Tigerstar had never wanted to look after the elders either, and that she would grow up to become just like him. But in Bluestar's Prophecy, we see that when Tigerstar was young, he was eager to care for the elders and promised Poppydawn he'd take better care of her than any other apprentice. Maybe Smallear's memory got worse with age.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: In The Darkest Hour, he doesn't get a lot of spotlight, but he then tells Tawnypaw that she'll just grow up to be like her villainous father Tigerstar. To Tawnypaw (who spent her life so far being judged for Tigerstar's crimes), this is the straw that breaks the camel's back, and she runs away to join ShadowClan.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Instead of thanking Firestar for carrying him across the river, he complains that he almost drowned because of crossing the river.

    Halftail

Sparrowpelt/Halftail

"Well done for bringing WindClan home! You must come and share the story with the elders' one night."

One of ThunderClan's elders, Halftail is always ready to show kindness to newcomers. When he was younger, he was a warrior named Sparrowpelt, and he mentored Snowfur and Redtail. After losing half of his tail to a badger, he retired because he couldn't balance properly with only half a tail. He dies of smoke inhalation in Rising Storm.

  • An Arm and a Leg: He lost half his tail in a fight with a badger and hasn't been able to climb a tree ever since for fear of falling and not having his tail to help him land right. His name was changed upon retiring to reflect his missing tail.
  • Career-Ending Injury: He retired early because he couldn't keep balance after most of his tail was lost to a badger.
  • A Day in the Limelight: He becomes the P.O.V. character for The Elders' Concern.
  • Happily Married: With One-eye.
  • Killed Offscreen: He's already dead by the time Firestar finds him in Rising Storm.
  • Meaningful Rename: Had his name changed from Sparrowpelt to Halftail when he retired.
  • The Mentor: To Snowfur and Redtail.
  • Named After the Injury: He is renamed from Sparrowpelt to Halftail as an elder because his tail was bitten in half by a badger.
  • One-Steve Limit: He was dead by the time SkyClan's Sparrowpelt came along, but he goes by Sparrowpelt through most of Bluestar's Prophecy.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Outlives his son, Runningwind, but not by that much. Both father and son died in the exact same book.
  • Series Continuity Error: Like several cats, he's not seen or mentioned in Goosefeather's Curse, though he should be in ThunderClan by then.

    One-eye

One-eye/White-eye

"I was already old when they changed my name to One-eye, and to be honest I don't care what they call me so long as they bring the fresh-kill on time."

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/one_eye_fg_3.png

The oldest cat in ThunderClan in the original series. She's nearly blind and deaf, and only has one functional eye.

  • The Apprentice: To Smallear.
  • Bus Crash: Dies sometime between Firestar's Quest and Midnight.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: In The Darkest Hour, she tells Firestar the specifics of the renaming ceremony that he uses to change Lostface's name to Brightheart.
  • A Day in the Limelight: In Code of the Clans, “Hunting Fish!” is a short story starring her and Dappletail as young warriors, getting into trouble when they decide to hunt in RiverClan territory.
  • Handicapped Badass: As a young warrior in Bluestar's Prophecy, she compensates for her half-blindness with her incredible hearing. No cat can successfully sneak up on her.
  • I Was Quite the Looker: She was described as being very pretty despite her missing eye in her younger years.
  • Happily Married: With Halftail.
  • Killed Offscreen: Dies offscreen during a Time Skip, presumably of old age.
  • Meaningful Rename: Bluestar changed her name to One-eye when she became an elder.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Outlives her son, Runningwind.

    Dappletail

Dappletail

"If we can't trust StarClan, then we are lost."

A ThunderClan elder from the first arc.

  • The Apprentice: To Windflight, her father.
  • Bury Your Disabled: She mentioned that she had a deaf kitten in her first litter. He disappeared at three moons old. They Never Found the Body but guessed a fox killed him.
  • A Day in the Limelight: In Code of the Clans, “Hunting Fish!” is a short story starring her and White-eye (One-eye) as young warriors, getting into trouble when they decide to hunt in RiverClan territory.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: She's listed in the character sheets as a "once-pretty tortoiseshell she-cat with a lovely dappled coat".
  • The Mentor: To Goldenflower.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: She becomes angry and stand-offish to the point of desperately devouring a poisoned rabbit in Moonrise, thinking that everyone was overreacting about the danger and not every rabbit in the forest could be poisoned. After she dies from said poisoning, Leafpaw laments that only starvation could've driven such a sweet-natured cat like Dappletail to such drastic measures.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: She had a deaf son who vanished when he was three moons old. The Clan guessed that a fox must have gotten him.
  • Scratchy-Voiced Senior: In Into the Wild she is mentioned to have a voice cracked with age.
  • Will They or Won't They?: In Bluestar's Prophecy, she and Stormtail appear to have underlying affection for each other despite the latter already being mates with Moonflower and fathering Bluestar and Snowfur. After Moonflower dies, their implied romance seemingly continues behind the scenes, though they never make an official statement that they've become a couple.

    Patchpelt

Patchpelt

"Patchkit, I already see your father's courage shining in your eyes."

A ThunderClan elder from the first arc. He's Graystripe's uncle

  • The Apprentice: To Fuzzypelt.
  • Cool Old Guy: Patchpelt is kind to most cats, including Firestar and Cloudtail, despite their being former kittypets. He also does his best to help his Clan, even as an elder, and dies trying to save one of his Clanmates.
  • The Mentor: To Whitestorm.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: In the short story The Elders' Concern, which takes place after Fireheart becomes deputy, Patchpelt says that Bluestar has broken the warrior code by taking Fireheart into the Clan and making him deputy, even though he never shows any prejudices against Fireheart in the main series.

    Rosetail

Rosetail

"Not many cats get to be deputy, so don't miss out on other things while you're waiting."

A ThunderClan she-cat first introduced in Into the Wild. She gets a little more screen time in Bluestar's Prophecy. She also happens to be Thistleclaw's sister.

  • Ascended Extra: She was an elder in the first book, Into the Wild, with such a minor appearance that she didn't even appear in the character list in the book. Fans picked up on that and so in Bluestar's Prophecy the authors made her one of Bluestar's closest friends growing up.
  • The Apprentice: To Tawnyspots.
  • C-List Fodder: She was a very minor character in Into the Wild, only existing to die near the end of the book.
  • Death Glare: Delivers two to Blackfoot, one during her Last Stand, one while giving him a life, indicating that she certainly has not forgiven him for murdering her.
  • Dies Wide Open: Her eyes are mentioned as glazing over in death in Blackfoot's Reckoning.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Almost twenty years after her off-screen death in the very first book, Blackfoot's Reckoning reveals that she went down with nobility and fierceness.
  • Face Death with Dignity: It's clear from the onset that Blackfoot has her outmatched in his novella, but all she does is square her shoulders, glare, and vow that she will fight to her last breath to protect the kits.
  • Genki Girl: She's pretty energetic and excitable in Bluestar's Prophecy.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She dies protecting the nursery from a ShadowClan attack.
  • Last Stand: Blackfoot's Reckoning shows her death scene, wherein she baricades the nursery with her own body and refuses to stand down.
Blackfoot: Get out of my way.
    Rosetail: Never.
Blackfoot: You've got no chance against me. Run, old cat. I'll take the kits, but I won't hurt them.
Rosetail: They're part of ThunderClan. As long as I can fight, I won't let you have them.
  • Mauve Shirt: Has a somewhat expanded role in Bluestar's Prophecy, meaning a reader might actually be sad when she dies in Into the Wild.
  • Meaningful Name: She's named after her pinkish-orange tail.
  • Mercy Kill: Blackfoot botches his initial Slashed Throat attempt, leaving her alive but doomed to a slow, choking death. He quickly puts her out of her misery.
  • Red Shirt: At first. Her entire role in Into the Wild was to be a random elder killed by Blackfoot to show off his evilness. She didn't appear in the allegiances, had no interaction with Firestar, and only had her name revealed after she died. Bluestar's Prophecy went out of its way to rectify this. So minor was she in Into the Wild that there was once an entire thread over at the official forum where fans tried to figure out what happened to her after Bluestar's Prophecy because they had forgotten about her death. Seriously.
  • Shipper on Deck: She ships Bluestar and Thrushpelt.
  • Slashed Throat: Twice. The first blow to her throat was rough and would have left her slowly choking to death, so Blackfoot delivered a cleaner one that ended her suffering.

    Brokentail

Brokentail

ShadowClan's former leader, who became a rogue after he was defeated by Yellowfang and Firestar. In Fire and Ice, ThunderClan makes him join their Clan as an elder, but he turns on them, as expected. For more information, see here.

    Longtail

Longtail

"Look at his collar! He's a kittypet! Once a kittypet, always a kittypet. This Clan needs wild-born warriors to defend it, not another soft mouth to feed."

"It'll be okay. You're my apprentice now, Swiftpaw."Image source

One of Tigerstar's biggest supporters, but only at first. After acting like a jerkass to Firestar for the first two books, he eventually realizes Tigerstar's true character, leading to him eventually becoming one of Firestar's biggest supporters.

  • The Apprentice: To Darkstripe.
  • Back for the Finale: In The Last Hope, he shows up again in StarClan.
  • Break the Cutie: He gets his eyes scratched by a rabbit in Firestar's Quest causing him to go blind. This forces him to retire to the elder's den for the rest of his life, despite being just a little bit older than Firestar. When it finally seems like he might be happy, he is killed in Fading Echoes while helping his friend Mousefur.
  • Broken Pedestal: He supported Tigerstar until he realized how evil he was.
  • The Bully: Picked on Firestar in the first half of The Original Series. However, Forest of Secrets gave him Character Development by having him save Firestar and prove that while he may not be Firestar's best friend, he would always fight to defend his Clanmates.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Went blind after a rabbit scratched his eyes, forcing him to retire.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: In Fading Echoes. Well, it was actually a tree, but he still died pretty suddenly.
  • Ear Notch: He obtains one, courtesy of Firestar.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He was a cocky bully who padded around in Tigerclaw's shadow as one of his loyal lackeys, only to be horrified upon hearing about Tigerclaw's crimes. Not only does he viciously refuse to join his former friend in exile despite being promised power and comfort, Longtail carries the guilt of even associating with Tigerstar for the rest of his life.
    • He also felt responsible for causing Poppydawn's death in the short story A Dark Path Chosen. He and Darkstripe were tasked with hunting in rainy weather while the rest of the Clan was sick and hungry, only for Longtail to catch a fat squirrel. While Darkstripe says they should eat it as "warriors deserve to eat first" and eagerly chows down, Longtail is more hesitant to break the code before giving into hunger and eating the squirrel as well. Not only was the further hunting much lousier, but they got back into camp just as Poppydawn passes away from sickness and starvation. While Darkstripe snarls at Longtail to keep his mouth shut about eating the prey, Longtail silently begs for Poppydawn to forgive him.
  • Eye Scream: A rabbit scratches out his eyes in Firestar's Quest.
  • Greater Need Than Mine: In The Fourth Apprentice, Jayfeather suspects that he may be giving his water rations to Mousefur because he thinks she needs them more.
  • Hate at First Sight: Longtail hates Firestar the moment he joins the Clan, and the feeling is mutual. Eventually, without the influence of Darkstripe and Tigerstar, he becomes loyal to Firestar (particularly after Firestar begins to treat him with more respect).
  • Jerkass: He was this in the first half of the first arc, especially towards Firestar.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: In A Dangerous Path, he's angry because Bluestar is promoting Fireheart's apprentice Cloudpaw to a warrior, but not his own apprentice Swiftpaw, even though both have completed their training. While he's not aware that Bluestar is suffering from Sanity Slippage and thinks the whole Clan are traitors, he has a point that Cloudpaw was probably chosen because he is the apprentice of Fireheart, Bluestar's favorite.
Longtail: It’s strange that your apprentice is chosen, and mine is ignored. Swiftpaw never went off to live with Twolegs!
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While he's not the nicest cat and is mean to Rusty at the beginning, he's a kind mentor to his apprentice Swiftpaw, undoubtedly loyal to his Clan, and becomes nicer as he gets older.
  • Meaningful Name: He was named after his tail, and knew from the beginning his warrior name would be Longtail.
  • The Mentor: To Swiftpaw, Ferncloud and Sootfur.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: In Code of the Clans, he is horrified when his actions lead to Poppydawn's death.
  • Nice Guy: He becomes this after he becomes a good guy. He gets even nicer after he becomes an elder earlier than intended.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Mousefur.
  • Rival Turned Evil: Subverted. Firestar thinks that he's become a full on villain due to his admiration of Tigerstar and Darkstripe, but he's really a good guy and he turns away from them.
  • The Rival: To Firestar in the first arc.
  • Stupid Sacrifice: In Fading Echoes, he heroically dies to save (drumroll) a half-eaten vole!
  • Terrible Trio: He, Tigerstar and Darkstripe were this in ThunderClan in the first series. Tigerstar was rarely seen without his loyal followers, at least until Tigerstar is exposed as a traitor. Longtail chooses his Clan over his friend, but Darkstripe later joins Tigerstar in exile.
  • Together in Death: As of The Last Hope, Longtail and Mousefur are finally reunited in death.

    Mousefur

Mousefur

"I'm sorry, Fireheart. I think you're talking sense, but that's not the point. The warrior code isn't something you stick to just when you feel like it. I don't think I could disobey my leader if she ordered me to attack."

A ThunderClan she-cat. At the beginning of Into the Wild, she is a young and strong warrior. While most of the ThunderClan cats from Into the Wild die by the end of the first arc, she manages to survive and is one of the Clan's oldest warriors. During The New Prophecy, she joins Longtail in the elder's den and becomes a cranky old she-cat.

  • Action Girl: Even as an elder. Fighting the badgers in Twilight comes to mind.
  • The Apprentice: To Redtail.
  • Celibate Hero: By her own volition, she's asexual and never has a mate or kits, though she has a Platonic Life-Partners relationship with Longtail.
  • Cool Old Lady: Tough and grumpy, but always loyal to her Clan, and still manages to aid her Clan in fights as an elder.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Especially as she gets older.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Longtail's death, Briarlight's accident, and her role in both send her into a deep depression that she doesn't recover from until moments before her death.
  • Dying as Yourself: In The Last Hope, she reunites with Longtail, finally finding peace and snapping out of her depression...just before a Dark Forest warrior gets her.
  • It's All My Fault: In Fading Echoes, she's wracked with guilt over Longtail's death and Briarlight's crippling.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She may be grumpy, but she loves kits, is loyal to her Clan, and is pretty helpful to Jayfeather when he needs information (such as in Sunrise).
  • The Mentor: To Thornclaw and Spiderleg.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Ready to fight for ThunderClan, even after moving into the elders' den.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In Fading Echoes, she complains about leaving behind a half-eaten vole when the Clan has to evacuate the camp, on account of it being disrespectful. This directly leads to Longtail's death and Briarlight's Career-Ending Injury; the former went to fetch the vole to appease her, the latter went to fetch Longtail, and then a tree fell on them both. She feels terrible about it.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In Fading Echoes, after Longtail's death, she goes into withdrawal and even refuses to eat.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Longtail.
  • Racist Grandma: She dislikes outsiders joining ThunderClan and once even calls a Clan meeting to say that ThunderClan is becoming too mixed.
  • Talking Is a Free Action: Subverted in The Last Hope. She dies because she stops in the middle of a battle to talk with Longtail.

    Purdy

Purdy

"When the thaw comes, you'll get wet. Like you do every leaf-bare...Cats that live wild get wet. Not even your StarClan can change that."

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_7121.png

An old cat who shows up from time to time in order to help the heroes. A member of ThunderClan as of Sunrise. He enjoys telling long-winded stories and claiming that he used to have great hunting and fighting skills.

  • Cool Old Guy: He's generally friendly to the other cats, and even if he is annoying he does manage to get them to Sun Drown Place in Midnight.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: In Sunrise, he tells the Sol Patrol that Sol didn't kill anyone. And he's right for once.
  • He's Back!: After not having appeared since Moonrise, he comes out of absolutely nowhere in Outcast to hang out with the characters. Then in Sunrise he shows up again, this time living with Sol.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: In Sunrise, he lives together with Sol until the Sol Patrol arrives.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Played with. In Sunrise he claims that Sol, the Big Bad of Power of Three, is a good cat. It's obvious to the readers that he's wrong, but Sol didn't commit the murder he was accused of.
  • I Have Many Names: Implied, as he was fed and cared for by numerous Twolegs before joining ThunderClan, but one commented that he was "Purdy", and it was the name that stuck.
  • Long-Lived: He's already an elder at the beginning of the second arc, and is still alive as of the sixth arc.
  • Old Windbag: He loves nothing better than to tell stories.
  • A Pet into the Wild: He became a loner after his Twoleg died. He didn't entirely lose his fondness for Twolegs, but he didn't live with any after that.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: He serves as this once he joins ThunderClan.
  • Rambling Old Man Monologue: He does this frequently. Fans love it, characters get annoyed by it.
Purdy: Do you ever miss hunting?
Mousefur: As much as you would miss talking if your tongue fell out!
  • Short Cuts Make Long Delays: He claims he knows a shortcut, but it isn't necessarily the quickest route.
  • The Sixth Ranger: In Midnight, where he randomly shows up to show the group a "shortcut".
  • The Storyteller: He is known for his love of telling stories. Whether cats actually sit and listen to him is up for debate.

Kits

    Patchkit

Patchkit

"He said I was very brave, and a really good swimmer!"
Mapleshade and Appledusk's son, who ended up drowning in the river.
  • Death of a Child: He and his littermates drowned when their mother tried to take them across the river to RiverClan.
  • Family Eye Resemblance: He is noted to have the same shade of green eyes as his father Appledusk.
  • Retcon: Originally, The Ultimate Guide stated that after no cat came forward as the father of him and his siblings, the Clan's medicine cat recognized the RiverClan warrior who fathered them in the shape of their heads and the way they held their tails. In Mapleshade's Vengeance, he sees them swimming and notices their father rescue them and speak to Mapleshade.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Like his father, he is instantly good at swimming in shallow water.
  • Shrinking Violet: He's a timid kit and was always pretty content to let his littermates try out things first.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He is noted to look like his mother Mapleshade.

    Larchkit and Petalkit

Larchkit and Petalkit

Mapleshade and Appledusk's other two kits, who also drowned in the river. Larchkit is a tom, Petalkit is a she-cat.
  • Death of a Child: They, along with Patchkit, drowned when their mother tried to take them across the river to RiverClan.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. Larchkit shares a name with one of Dustpelt and Ferncloud's daughters from their second litter, who also died as a kit. Petalkit also shares a name with a kit in LionClan in Secrets of the Clans.
  • Retcon: Originally, The Ultimate Guide stated that after no cat came forward as the father of them and their brother, the Clan's medicine cat recognized the RiverClan warrior who fathered them in the shape of their heads and the way they held their tails. In Mapleshade's Vengeance, he sees them swimming and notices their father rescue them and speak to Mapleshade.
  • Shared Family Quirks: They and their brother are instantly good at swimming in shallow water, as is their real father. Also averted in a sense, as they are not able to stalk or pounce like Birchface, who the Clan thinks is their father, which hints to Ravenwing that he isn't really the one who sired them.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: They are noted to be the same shade of brown as their father Appledusk.

    Nightkit and Mistkit

Nightkit and Mistkit

Tigerstar's sisters. They die within a moon after their birth.

    Mosskit

Mosskit

"Believe in your Clan and in yourself. Never doubt that you know the right path to take."

Bluestar's other daughter, who died when she was being taken to RiverClan.

  • Child of Forbidden Love: She is the daughter of Oakheart of RiverClan and Bluestar of ThunderClan.
  • Back for the Finale: She returns in The Last Hope and plays a small role.
  • The Cameo: She meets Jayfeather in The Last Hope.
  • Curious as a Monkey: In StarClan, along with Blossomkit and Adderkit, her curiosity leads her to the tunnel where Rock lives.
  • Death of a Child: She died from the cold when her mother was trying to take her and her littermates to RiverClan.
  • Gender Bender: Has been called both male and female. Word of God confirms Mosskit as female.
  • Happily Adopted: She essentially considers Snowfur her mother, as Snowfur has been watching over her since she joined StarClan. She still loves and misses Bluefur, though, and even gives her a seventh life when she becomes ThunderClan leader, along with the gift of trust.
  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: When she and her littermates were born, the Clan assumed that Thrushpelt was the father. This is despite Bluestar never stating such a thing.
  • Meaningful Name: Bluestar named her kits Misty-, Stone-, and Moss- because she wanted names that remind her of the river and their father.

    Snowkit

Snowkit

"S'all right."

A kit in A Dangerous Path. He is deaf, which leads him to be carried off by a hawk.

    Hollykit and Larchkit

Hollykit and Larchkit

Birchfall's sisters, who died of the famine in the old forest.

  • Afterlife Welcome: Arrive during Bramblestar's Storm with their mother and dead siblings to welcome their father to StarClan.
  • The Cameo: They return as spirits in Bramblestar's Storm, though only briefly.
  • Death of a Child: They both died when Ferncloud couldn't produce enough milk to feed them all due to lack of prey. Larchkit died in Moonrise, Hollykit died in Dawn.
  • Family Theme Naming: They and their brother Birchfall are all named after trees.
  • Healthy in Heaven: In Starlight, Leafpool sees them in StarClan, healthy and being cared for by their older brother Shrewpaw.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. Larchkit shares a name with one of Mapleshade's kits.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: They are brown tabbies, like their father Dustpelt.

    Juniperkit and Dandelionkit

Juniperkit and Dandelionkit

The deceased son and daughter of Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight, and siblings to Alderheart and Sparkpelt.

  • Death of a Child: Juniperkit was stillborn. His sister Dandelionkit was born sickly and died two moons after her birth.
  • Floral Theme Naming: They are both named after types of plants, as is their brother Alderheart.
  • The Ghost: They have not appeared in person and are only mentioned after their deaths, although the authors have said that they may appear in the seventh arc.
    • They finally appear in Squirrelflight's Hope.
  • Killed Offscreen: They died in the Time Skip between Bramblestar's Storm and The Apprentice's Quest.
  • Posthumous Character: Both are dead by the time of The Apprentice's Quest.

    Flickerkit

Flickerkit

"Will Sparkpelt be joining us soon?"

The other son of Sparkpelt and Larksong, who died at birth.

  • Alliterative Family: Flickerkit, Finchpaw and Flamepaw.
  • Death of a Child: He was stillborn.
  • Family Theme Naming: His name is a dual meaning. A flicker is a bird that matches with the names of his father Larksong and sister Finchpaw, but it's also a source of bright light that matches his mother Sparkpelt and his brother Flamepaw.
  • Meaningful Name: When a light flickers, it goes in and out unsteadily. Alas, Flickerkit's time with his family is painfully short.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He is a combination of both parents. Flickerkit is orange like his mother and black like his father.

  • Family Eye Resemblance: Blue, like her sister Bluestar and her father Stormtail.
  • Family Theme Naming: Snowfur and her sister, Bluefur.
  • Hidden Depths: She looks gentle and harmless, but she enjoys fighting almost as much as Thistleclaw.
  • Intoxication Ensues: She lapped up a couple of poppy seeds as a kit when Goosefeather momentarily turned his back on her and Bluekit during their visit to the medicine den. While this initially horrifies Moonflower and worries her denmates in the nursery, she only ends up falling asleep from the seeds' effects, waking up just fine.
  • Look Both Ways: In Bluestar's Prophecy, she dies because a car hits her.
  • Meaningful Name: She is named after her white pelt.
  • Morality Chain: To Thistleclaw. When she dies, any shred of morality he has left dies with her.

  • Parental Substitute: She takes care of her niece, Mosskit, in StarClan.
  • Running Over the Plot: Snowfur is hit and killed by a car in front of her sister Bluefur, adding to the tragic events in her Trauma Conga Line as well as driving Thistleclaw to deeper anger and ambition to become deputy, which Bluefur needs to stop lest ThunderClan is destroyed by violence.
  • Satellite Character: She's mostly defined by her roles as Bluestar's sister and Thistleclaw's mate.
  • Series Continuity Error: In Secrets of the Clans, Snowfur says that her son Whitepaw had only recently become an apprentice when she died. But in Bluestar's Prophecy, Whitekit is still in the nursery at the time of his mother's death.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Like her son Whitestorm, she has pure white fur.

    Speckletail

Speckletail

"Why can't he be a warrior? There's nothing else wrong with him. He's a good, strong kit. He gets along just fine if you signal what he has to do."

The leader of the Nursery in the first arc. She is fiercely protective of all the kits of ThunderClan. Mother of Snowkit, Lionheart, and Goldenflower.

  • Apron Matron: She's the leader of the Nursery, and she isn't soft with those who try to hurt the kits.
  • Heroic BSoD: Goes a little mad for a short while after Snowkit dies, but she gets over it and joins the Elders.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: In the wake of Snowkit's death, she grows close to Lostface when she moves into the Elders' den.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's blunt, prickly and somewhat prejudiced against half-Clan cats. But she is loyal to ThunderClan and cares for all the kits of the nursery like her own.
  • Mama Bear: She cares for all the kits of the Nursery like her own, and will fight to protect them.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Despite being called Speckletail, her pelt is actually striped.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Outlives Lionheart and, most tragically, Snowkit.
  • Parental Substitute: Becomes a surrogate mother to Lostface when she is sent to live in the Elders' den after her injury. This further helps her come to terms with Snowkit's death.
  • Racist Grandma: She has some qualms about letting Graystripe's half-RiverClan kits stay in ThunderClan. Fortunately, her daughter Goldenflower is willing to nurse them.
Speckletail: [Graystripe and Silverstream] both betrayed their Clans. There's bad blood in these kits.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In Fire and Ice, she has a she-kit who becomes ill with whitecough. After one scene, this kit disappears and is never mentioned again for the rest of the series. Word of God stated that her name was Mistlekit, but did not confirm if she was Killed Offscreen.

    Brindleface

Brindleface

"With this life I give you protection. Use it well to care for your Clan as a mother cares for her kits."

One of ThunderClan's queens; mother of Ferncloud and Ashfur, and according to Word of God, Sandstorm. Fiercely devoted to protecting the kits who will one day become warriors, she battles tooth and claw against enemies, even when she's pregnant. After losing two of her kits to sickness, she adopts Cloudtail and cares for him like her own.

  • Action Girl: As with almost all she-cats in this series.
  • Action Mom: Fights as ferociously as any warrior.
  • The Apprentice: To Stormtail.
  • Back for the Finale: She reappears in The Last Hope after not doing much as a StarClan warrior.
  • The Cameo: Appears in The Last Hope to lead a newly deceased Firestar into StarClan.
  • Killed Offscreen: In A Dangerous Path, Tigerstar kills her to give the dog pack a taste for cat blood.
  • Mama Bear: Invoked when she gives Firestar the gift of protection, so that he will defend his Clan as ferociously as a mother guards her kits.
  • Parental Substitute: She took care of Cloudtail after he was brought to ThunderClan as a kit.
  • Pregnant Badass: First appears in the first book as a pregnant queen battling ShadowClan.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: One of her kits dies shortly after birth, and another dies of an unnamed illness around the same time that Cloudkit is brought to the Clan. She takes him in as her surrogate son.

    Frostfur

Frostfur

"We don't raise kits to fight in unjust battles."

One of the queens in the Original Series. Mother of Cinderpelt, Brackenfur, Thornclaw, and Brightheart.

  • Action Girl: She leaves the Nursery and fights again as a warrior late in the Original Series.
  • The Apprentice: To Bluestar.
  • Back for the Finale: Returns in The Last Hope.
  • Bus Crash: Stays behind instead of going on the Great Journey. Word of God is that she and the other queens who stayed in the forest died shortly after the Clans left.
  • Mama Bear: She attacks Ravenpaw when she thinks that he stole her kits.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Attacks Ravenpaw when she believes he helped Yellowfang steal her kits. He didn't, but she believes Tigerclaw's rumors. Later subverted, when Fireheart expects her to blame him for Cinderpaw being crippled on the Thunderpath, as he blames himself for not being able to make her stay in camp while he was getting catnip. However, Frostfur does not blame him, instead asking what he is sorry for when he apologizes.

    Goldenflower

Goldenflower

"I understand how you feel. Your eyes have always betrayed your heart. But these are my kits, and I will die to protect them if I have to. I'm afraid for them, Fireheart. The Clan will never forgive Tigerclaw - nor should they. But Bramblekit and Tawnykit have done nothing wrong, and I will not let them be punished because of Tigerclaw."

The mate of Tigerstar, and mother of Brambleclaw, Tawnypelt, and Swiftpaw.

  • Action Mom: During the ShadowClan attack on ThunderClan in the first book, she fights a ShadowClan tom.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Played with; she fell for Tigerstar before she knew of his crimes, and is just as disgusted with him as everyone else in ThunderClan when she learns of them, but dialogue later hints that she still loves him.
  • The Apprentice: To Dappletail.
  • Bus Crash: Dies in the Time Skip between Sunset and Power of Three.
  • Ear Notch: When they were apprentices, Bluepaw accidentally gives her a nick in her ear while training. Goldenpaw's mother Speckletail is horrified; Goldenpaw herself is thrilled to have her first battle scar.
  • Genki Girl: Her reaction to Bluepaw accidentally ripping part of her ear off during training was an enthusiastic "teach me how to do that!", and she spent most of her apprenticeship running around energetically.
  • Good Parents: She's a strong and devoted mother to Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt who always stood by their side and never wavered in her love for them. Goldenflower did the best she could to protect her kits from the Clans suspicion that they would turn out like their father and even stood up to Fireheart when he was being unfair to them.
    • She is listed as the number 1 best mother on the official article "Honoring the Mother Cats".
  • Mama Bear: She's very protective of Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt.
  • Nice Girl: Readily takes care of Graystripe's kits since their mother is dead despite the effort wearing her out.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Her son Swiftpaw is killed by a pack of dogs.
  • Parental Substitute: When Graystripe's newborn kits are brought to ThunderClan, she nurses them and cares for them like her own.
  • So Proud of You: Tells Brambleclaw that she's very proud of him as she's giving him one of his nine lives.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Calls out Firestar for thinking that Brambleclaw would turn out like his father, and later for not being able to find Tawnypaw after she ran off to join ShadowClan.

    Ferncloud

Ferncloud

"What should we do? We can't let the forest be overrun by foxes! What about my kits?"

Ashfur's sister, and the mother of Spiderleg, Shrewpaw, Birchfall, Hollykit, Larchkit, Foxleap, and Icecloud. She's a permanent queen, staying in the nursery with Daisy to help newer queens adjust.

  • Action Mom: Stays in the nursery most of the time, but can pack a punch when she has to.
  • The Apprentice: To Darkstripe before he was banished, and then to Longtail.
  • Apron Matron: Jayfeather jokes in The Last Hope that she rules the nursery with an iron paw. She really doesn't.
  • Character Death: In The Last Hope, she is killed by Brokenstar. Oh, and Dustpelt is completely crushed.
  • C-List Fodder: In The Last Hope, her minor character status catches up with her and she dies in battle.
  • Good Parents: She served as a permanent queen for most of her life, had three litters of her own and helped her fellow queens raise their kits. She even died protecting the kits of ThunderClan from the Dark Forest.
    • She is listed as the number 4 best mother on the official article "Honoring the Mother Cats".
  • Kill the Cutie: In The Last Hope. Oh no, a minor character who still keeps their idealism despite the harshness of the world? We can't have that. Here, have a Brokenstar!
  • May–December Romance: With Dustpelt, though it's a less extreme example than many in this series. She's not even a year younger than him, but they start having feelings for each other when she's an apprentice and he's a warrior old enough to be her mentor.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Outlived Shrewpaw, Hollykit, and Larchkit, all of whom die in The New Prophecy.
  • Shrinking Violet: As an apprentice. She gets better when she grows up, but still remains very quiet.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Like most kindhearted warrior she-cats, Ferncloud can pack a wallop when she wants to, especially when kits are threatened.
  • Team Mom: She is a permanent queen who makes her den in the nursery and takes care of other ThunderClan kits as well as her own.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: In The Last Hope, she dies protecting the nursery from Brokenstar.

    Daisy

Daisy

"I am no warrior, but I am a ThunderClan cat. I stay in the nursery rather than hunt and fight because that is what I do best. I care for our young as though each kit were my own. That is my gift to the Clan, but I do it in my own chosen name."

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daisyno_19.png

A cat who lived in a barn by the lake territory, she and her kits join ThunderClan to avoid being separated by their owners. Although Firestar allows it, many in the Clans aren't happy about this, as Daisy shows no interest in becoming a warrior, to the point of refusing a warrior name when one is offered. She mainly stays in the nursery helping queens raise their kits. Mother of Berrynose, Mousewhisker, Hazeltail, Rosepetal, and Toadstep.

  • A Day in the Limelight: She received her own novella in 2021 titled Daisy's Kin. She also has a short story in Secrets of the Clans.
  • Action Girl: Unusually for the series, this trope is subverted. Cloudtail teaches her to fight, so it looks like she'll become one, but she decides to become a permanent queen. Then Lionblaze teaches her some moves in The Last Hope and she proves to be pretty effective at fighting the Dark Forest.
  • Amicable Exes: She and Smoky ultimately decide to become this in Daisy's Kin.
  • Apron Matron: Takes over this role from Ferncloud when she dies.
  • Character Development: Gets a surprising amount for a background character. She starts out terrified of the forest, clingy to Cloudtail, and spent most of her time doing nothing. By Power of Three she's adapted relatively well and pulls her weight around camp, and at the end of Omen of the Stars she takes enough levels in badass to successfully fight the Dark Forest. She's also respected by the Clan, and Bramblestar himself consults her for advice at least once.
  • Confusion Fu: In The Last Hope, Lionblaze trains her and Brightheart in it.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Daisy feels this way at the start of her novella. She finds her purpose by the end of it.
  • Going Native: Not completely, since she's not a warrior, but she's come a long way from being terrified of the forest. She even attends Gatherings on occasion.
  • Good Parents:
    • A permanent queen who moved to ThunderClan to protect her kits from getting taken away by the Twolegs.
    • She is listed as the number 3 best mother on the official article "Honoring the Mother Cats".
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Most forest cats have them, but Daisy's scarred muzzle deserves special mention. It's not everyday a Non-Action Girl goes into battle against the forces of evil, after all.
  • Hidden Depths: Is surprisingly mature about losing Smoky, Cloudtail, and Spiderleg, and is the first one to apologize to Brightheart for her behavior.
  • Hysterical Woman: When she first arrives, she's completely paranoid about the dangers of the forest, even taking her kits back to the stable at one point. However, later books show that she's grown out of it.
  • The Load: She wanted to join the Clan so the Twolegs wouldn't take away her kits but had no interest in giving back to the Clan by hunting and fighting. In the end, she ended up contributing by becoming a Team Mom and helping all of the Clan queens raise their kits.
  • Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: Her short story states that another reason she left the barn was because she was hoping to find someone who could love her. Unfortunately, her tries were with Cloudtail and Spiderleg.
  • Mr. Exposition: In Sunset, she uses her knowledge of Twolegs to fill the Clan in on their recent actions.
  • One-Night-Stand Pregnancy: Ends up pregnant with Spiderleg's kits after a brief, spontaneous fling with him. This results in their daughter Rosepetal and their son Toadstep.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: The poor woman outlives four of her five kits.
  • The Scrappy: To some of ThunderClan in The New Prophecy, due to being ignorant of Clan traditions and unintentionally messing up Cloudtail and Brightheart's relationship. invoked
  • Silk Hiding Steel: In contrast to her earlier appearances, by Bramblestar's Storm Daisy has become well-respected for her maternal personality and iron will.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She's cream colored, like her son Berrynose.
  • Team Mom: Her main purpose in the Clan is to help raise kits—her own, and other queens'.
  • Took a Level in Badass:
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Screams at Smoky in Bramblestar's Storm for replacing her friend, who she thought he genuinely loved, when she died.
