"This world turns because we live upon it as vessels. So, why are we the only ones who suffer? It should be the other way around, right? Otherwise, it's be unfair. We're called Under. In three months time... we're gonna flip the world on it's head and make it fair."
-Rip, Chapter 29

Another Negator organization, unofficially known as the Negator Hunters, that oppose the Union. They believe the world is unfair and wish to build up their own forces in order to take the world for themselves.

    In General
  • Base on Wheels: Under's base mobile via Kain, who can eat the building and carry it to new locations, making it impossible to track.
  • Heel–Face Reincarnation: Of a sorts. As part of creating the "Ultimate Union" in the 101st Loop, Fuuko opts to avert the tragedies of the various Negators native to that Loop, Under included, resulting in them joining her as members of Union and becoming flat out heroes, in stark contrast to their more morally unscrupulous actions in the 100th Loop. By Julia's recruitment, Fuuko has succeeded at recruiting all of Under except for Bunny and Kururu, and only due to initially being unable to find them until Andy's Soul Bullets located them for her.
  • Punny Name: Un-der.
  • Sigil Spam: Like the Union, Under has their own emblem (five points arranged in a semi-circle). All members of Under shown so far (with the exception of Sean and Billy) wear the emblem in some way. Examples include Rip's eyepatch, Latla's hair decorations, Creed's necklace and Bunny's costume's pattern.
  • The Social Darwinist: Many members of Under are okay with letting non-Negators die en masse if it benefits Negators in some way.
  • Villain Team-Up: They're united not by a single goal, but rather by their individual interests aligning with one another. Different members want different things in the long run, but they've joined forces to make achieving those individual goals easier.

"The one who'll kill God... is me."

"Devoid of light, forced to bear the weight of negating... forced to fight. Why must we concern ourselves with the lives of the incompetent masses? Their lives should be sacrificed as well. And that's just what we plan to do. Otherwise it would be rather... unfair. Don't you agree?"

The former Number 3 Negator of the Union, who was secretly the leader and Number 1 Negator of Under the whole time. He believes that he is the only one capable of killing God and believes Juiz and the Union are held back by their naïve desire to protect the world at large instead of sacrificing them to further their own goals. His Unfair allows him to copy a Negator’s abilities so long as the Negator views him as a threat.

Click to see his younger form

"If you join me, then I'll deactivate my ability. If you don't, then that wound... won't heal until I'm dead."

The Number 4 Negator of Under, a methodical man with a playful demeanor. His Unrepair ability allows him to negate others' ability to heal, making any wound he inflicts fatal.

  • Always Save the Girl: He says so himself; he doesn't care what it costs him if it means he can get Leila back. In the end, Victor notes that Rip can't be reasoned with to back down concerning the Ark to save Leila, despite this action dooming the next loop and any chance to kill God, forcing Andy to kill him.
"Her life... was repairable. That's why I'm going to use the Ark to redo things. For her, I'm willing... to risk it all. I don't care if it costs both legs... the rest of my life span... or the lives of others."
  • Anti-Regeneration:
    • His power negates any and all healing techniques, preventing others from healing from the wounds he inflicts. This applies to both the normal healing process that normal people go through and the super regeneration process that someone like Andy goes through.
    • His power also applies to indirect heal techniques, like preventing someone from covering up the wounds on their bodies with their hands to staunch the bleeding. This is why he explains that killing him will undo his power, as the very act of doing then becomes a healing technique that he can negate.
  • Arc Villain: Acts as the main antagonist of the Unrepair Arc, where he leads the group of Negator Hunters that infiltrate the black market yacht auction.
  • Artificial Limbs: His legs are actually an artifact called "Blade Runner," which allows him to propel himself at high speeds and fire blades at his enemies.
  • Attack on the Heart: He gets shot clean through his heart by Andy's "Crimson Bullet" attack at the end of chapter 28.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Like Andy, he spends just as much time kicking ass as he does examining his opponents and figuring out their powers and abilities.
  • Back from the Dead: He's killed by Andy when the 'zombie' blasts a finger bullet straight through Rip's heart at the end of chapter 28. In chapter 29, his death is confirmed when the wounds he's inflicted over the course of the arc begin to heal; however, the chapter also reveals that he was able to come back from death in a younger form through unknown methods, later revealed to be the result of Feng and the Life is Strange artifact.
  • Battle Couple: He works spectacularly well in a fight with Latla thanks to the natural complement of his irreparable offense and her unyielding defense. In the 101st loop, they up their synergy by splitting the usage of Blade Runner between their limbs, and after the battle with Sick officially get married and become husband and wife.
  • Beyond Redemption: Played with, as it only applies to the Rip of the 100th Loop. Rip in that Loop is obsessed with saving Leila's life, and is perfectly willing to damn humanity's last chance in the 101st Loop to kill God just to do so, which results in Victor realizing there's no chance of redeeming him, and Andy being forced to kill him. Andy sees however that Rip is not a bad person and was just pushed too far in this Loop, promising to find him and Latla in the 101st Loop and help them before they reach that point, something Rip admits to hoping he succeeds with before dying. While Andy himself is unable to fulfill that promise, he entrusts it to Fuuko, who makes good on it by saving Leila's life herself, stopping Rip's Start of Darkness and leaving him a much more openly kindhearted person.
  • Blessed with Suck: With how flexible his powers can be, you'd think they'd be great for anyone to have. Except if you're a surgeon operating on your loved one. In general, his Negator power prevents him from being able to be a surgeon again.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Flashbacks reveal Rip used to constantly skip out on his lessons because he found them boring and Latla mentions he actually hates studying. But when he decides to become a doctor to cure Leila, he cracks down on the effort to do so and becomes a certified doctor and surgeon at the age of 18.
  • Childhood Friends: He's been friends with Latla since childhood.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: As Leila's dying from Rip's failed operation on her, she tells Rip and her sister to forget about her and focus on using his abilities to save others. Unfortunately, likely due to Rip being grief-stricken over the incident, he ends up deciding to focus on doing everything in order to save Leila, even at the cost of ruining any chance for humanity to slay God.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • He's legitimately confused when Fuuko takes a thrown scapel for Chikara, since, as far as he's concerned, Chikara is completely useless. Later, when he's apologizing for doing just that, he's still confused since he believes it's technically her fault for jumping in the way, not realizing how faulty that logic is.
    • He completely dismisses Andy and co's attempts to kill him to save Fuuko as nothing more than another "healing technique" that he can negate since they're ultimately just fighting to save their own skin. He doesn't realize until it's too late that none of them were acting in the interest of healing their own wounds, but rather the interest of saving their companions instead.
    • Interestingly, Latla comments that Rip is a kind person forcing himself to be a villain because he would otherwise be unable to see Leila again, indicating Rip's difficulties comprehending the above actions is the idea that they are still able to be heroic and accomplish their goals.
  • Explaining Your Power to the Enemy: Whenever Rip reveals his power to someone new, he makes sure to tell them that his death will deactivate his powers. This is later revealed to be justified, as by doing so, attempts to kill him to heal their wounds become another healing technique he can negate.
  • Eyepatch of Power: He has one that covers a large portion of the right side of his face. Flashbacks reveal that part got slashed after Latla interrupted his attempt to slit his throat in his catatonic state following Leila's failed operation and death.
  • Fountain of Youth: Coming Back from the Dead has the small consequence of reverting him to a younger form, though he retains his memories and believes he'll be back to his normal age eventually. It's confirmed this was with the help of an artifact that can alter time used by Feng.
  • Graceful Loser: After Andy and Chikara use their abilities in tandem with one another to deal a fatal blow, Rip is more impressed by their actions then upset that he's been beaten. When he comes back from the dead, he goes as far as to offer Fuuko an artifact, warn Andy and Fuuko about Under's plan, and even offer them a spot on the team a second time.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Rip desperately wants to play the role as villain since he believes being the hero means giving up on his quest to see Leila again. Deep down, he has a heroic heart, showcased best when he swallows his pride to help Andy and Fuuko fight Autumn in order to repay Anno Un's sacrifice.
  • Join or Die: His offer to Negators he deems useful, like Sean. Either they join Under and he deactivates his ability on them, or they succumb to his power and bleed to death.
  • Loophole Abuse: Whether or not something is considered a "healing technique" is based on the intent of the target.
    • Even after Andy had his hands cut off by Rip, he was still able to use his "Parts Bullet Forearms" attack despite Rip saying that cutting himself up further wouldn't work. Afterwords, Rip outright confirms that because Andy was using it as an offensive attack and not a healing technique, his power did not apply.
    • This ends up causing his defeat at the end of the Unrepair Arc. Since the heroes were working under the intent of saving their allies' lives instead of their own, their attempts to kill him weren't counted as a healing technique, and Rip was susceptible to their fatal attack.
    • Andy ends up exploiting this again during their fight after the Spring arc. First by damaging his brain so that he can't comprehend that killing Rip would allow him to heal and then by briefly accepting Victor's aid to regenerate, because Andy was Rip's target, not Victor.
  • Maniac Tongue: There are several instances where Rip creepily exposes his tongue to lick a small trail of blood coming from his eyepatch clean.
  • Marry Them All: After the battle with UMA Sick and Leila’s recovery, Rip decides to nip the Sibling Triangle in the bud by proposing to both Leila and Latla, rules be damned, on the predicted happiest day of their lives.
  • No Ontological Inertia: He claims that his power will be automatically undone upon his death, which is proven true in chapter 29.
  • Parental Substitute: He and Latla are practically Bunny's honorary guardians, seeing as Bunny mentions he's the one that mended her bunny costume.
  • Punny Name: His power is Un-Rip-air.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning:
    • He has blood red eyes in the volume 3 cover, and is a dangerous foe with no issue killing people he deems useless.
    • When we finally see under his eyepatch, his right eye is damaged and discolored as a result of being cut after his power activated. This is actually a bit curious seeing that he's shown being able to control his power, which may have something to do with the injury happening shortly after Leila's failed operation.
  • Remembered Too Late: As Andy reassures Rip that they'll make things right with him in the next loop after he's fatally wounded, Rip remembers Leila's last words to him were for him to forget about her and use his abilities to save others instead. This prompts Rip to respond that he and Latla will join them as allies next loop.
  • Self Botched Catchphrase: He needs Latla to coach him through the lines for his signature “That wound there? It won’t repair itself ‘till I die!” phrase during the hospital fight against Sick in the 101st loop.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: His motivation for joining Under is a variant of this trope, as he feels responsible for the death of Latla's sister, Leila. He wants to use the Ark to go to the next loop and "redo" things so that she never dies, and he's willing to do anything it takes to accomplish this goal. Even Anno warning Rip that not only are he and Latla unable to use the Ark, but Latla will also die if he continues on the path he's on doesn't deter him.
  • Sword Beam:
    • Blade Runner allows him to fire crescent-shaped cutting blades from his legs.
    • This also extends to his arm after it too is replaced with an artifact that is capable of extending a blade from its wrist.
  • Teen Genius: He was a certified doctor and surgeon at the age of 18 prior to becoming a Negator.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: His capturing and cutting open Sean as part of the Join or Die offer made Sean incredibly bitter toward him to the point he's rather eager to get a higher seat. This results in Sean stabbing and killing Fuuko in the original future, resulting in the ultimate end to the Union as Victor kills Juiz and in the process, any hope of humanity winning against God.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: The best way to describe his dynamic with Latla is this as they tend to bicker between each other, with Rip especially loving to tease Latla, but they've known each other since childhood and it's evident they do care about each other.
  • Villain Respect: He's impressed by Andy's skill and resourcefulness in battle and by Fuuko's lack of hesitation in cutting off Andy's head, to the point where he asks them to join his side. He's also impressed by the heroes when they end up overcoming his power, and is pleasantly surprised that people like them actually exist.
  • We Can Rule Together:
    • He offers a spot on his team to both Andy and Fuuko as he deems both to be impressive opponents. Both decline the offer.
    • He extends his hand to them again in Chapter 29 after revealing the true motivations of Under, though they decline again.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: He disposes of any Negators that he deems useless as doing so means that their power can go to someone else potentially useful.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Anyone sliced by him is doomed to eventually bleed out as his power makes it impossible to heal from even a tiny cut. When Fuuko gets a small incision in her stomach from his thrown scalpel, he hypothesizes that she only has about an hour to live. The only way to survive is either for him to deactivate his power or for him to die.

Latla Mirah

Power: Untrust

"Don't try to hog the spotlight for yourself Rip!! If it means saving her, then I'll do whatever it takes too!"

The Number 9 Negator of Under, a squeamish woman close to Rip, acting as his bodyguard in a sense. Her power is Untrust, which negates her own predictions, resulting in the opposite of what she predicts happenings, often manifesting as her deflecting attacks.

  • Always Save the Girl: Like Rip, she'll do whatever it takes if it means she can save her sister Leila. And like with Rip, she also can't be reasoned with to back down concerning the Ark, leading to her doing a Suicide Attack to try killing Andy, resulting in her own death like Anno foretold.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: After rescuing Rip from one of Andy's attacks during their rematch, she yells her frustration at Rip always wanting to do things by himself instead of accepting help from those who love him. Whether this is platonic love or romantic love given Rip's feelings for her sister Leila has yet to be seen, although her drunken attempt to kiss Rip after the Spring battle and her quiet crying watching Rip confess to Leila from a distance in a flashback seems to suggest the latter.
  • Artificial Limbs: Shares one leg of Blade Runner with Rip in the 101st timeline, symbolically and literally representing their new determination to share burdens and stand on equal footing. This coordination also enables them to perform the Combination Attack, New Moonsault.
  • Attack Reflector: More of a deflector. Her power seems to allow her to negate other attacks by altering their trajectory before they hit her and anyone near her. The 101st loop indicates it comes from Untrust making the opposite of what she predicts come true.
  • Badass Biker: Latla is an experienced Negator and motorcyclist, which is reflected in her usage of a motorcycle-esque flying broomstick Artifact.
  • Battle Couple: She works incomparably well in a fight with Rip thanks to the natural complement of her unyielding defense and his irreparable offense. In the 101st loop, they up their synergy by splitting the usage of Blade Runner between their limbs, and after the battle with Sick officially get married and become husband and wife.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Justified. While Rip is more than capable of taking care of himself, he isn't infallible as he's susceptible to powerful attacks that could instantly kill him, so having Latla there to negate those attacks makes him much safer overall.
  • Crystal Ball: She carries one of these around with her throughout the Unrepair Arc. She turns out to have been a famous fortune teller prior to her sister's failed operation.
  • Flying Broomstick: Possess a steampunk-esque flying broomstick that she can ride.
  • Fortune Teller: Her page in the Volume 4 extras claims she has an interest in fortune telling, though according to Bunny her predictions are almost always wrong. She believes that telling her sister's fortune is what ultimately caused her death during a failed operation. However, her backstory reveals she used to give 100 percent accurate fortunes until said event happened, heavily implying her wrong predictions nowadays are a consequence of her Negator ability manifesting.
  • Gigantic Gulp: At the toast to celebrate the defeat, last game, and final blossoming of Spring, most present drink from ad-hoc crafted sake cups, courtesy of Haruka. Latla, however, gets sloshed directly from Spring’s massive personal gourd, which is so large she needs Bunny’s help to hold it up.
  • I Broke a Nail: While she never says this exact line, she often says things that carry a similar thought. For example, she whines about her makeup getting ruined when her face is sprayed with blood and mentally complains about her face being frozen in an unflattering expression when under Chikara's power.
  • Logical Weakness: Her power seemingly allows her to negate opponents' attacks, but that only applies to attacks she can see coming. Feints and curveballs can hit her just fine, which Andy uses to his advantage to best her and Rip in the Unrepair Arc.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Her low cut dress in her first appearance gives the reader a good view of her rather large breasts.
  • Parental Substitute: Like with Rip, Latla is shown to be acting as Bunny's honorary guardian, as Bunny is shown sitting in her lap in Chapter 69. It's also mentioned in Bunny's extra that her bangs are purposely styled to look like Latla's.
  • Polyamory: She gets married to Rip in the 101st loop, when he simultaneously marries her sister Leila. Though initially Latla is baffled by the optics of it, she ultimately happily 'predicts' with Untrust that they'll regret it, guaranteed.
  • Punny Name: Like with every other Negator, she's named after what she negates ("ra'''tora'''" and "'''tora'''suto"), but it also doubles as a play on the word "lateral", alluding to how Latla often uses Untrust negating her predictions to use it as an Attack Reflector.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Like Rip, her motivation for joining Under is a variant of this trope, as she too feels responsible for the death of her sister, Leila. She wants to use the the Ark to go to the next loop and "redo" things so that Leila never dies, and she's willing to do anything it takes to accomplish this goal.
  • Sibling Triangle: Latla and her sister Leila are both in love with Rip, a situation that was never fully resolved due to her tragic death born from their untimely Negator activations. Downplayed, as while there’s aggravation, there’s no real animosity between the two of them, to the point that Latla immediately offers to plan their wedding in the 101st loop. To her happy surprise, 'their' wedding turns out to be a more inclusive category than initially implied!
  • The Smurfette Principle: Is the only female member of the Negator Hunters invading the black market auction, though it's implied and later confirmed there are other women that are part of the larger Under group.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Latla tends to be quite vitriolic concerning her interactions with Rip, which has been the case ever since they were children. But it's still evident they are close.

Power: Unfade

Click to see him in the past

"Jīngcǎi. (Not Bad.)"

The Number 6 Negator of Under, a hooded Chinese man and kung fu master. His power, Unfade, negates ageing.

  • The Ageless: His power, Unfade, negates physical ageing, allowing him to live an incredibly long life. Unfortunately, he only received the power when he was already an old man, trapping him in an elderly body.
  • All There in the Manual: His power was first reveled in the Volume 8 extras.
  • Animate Dead: One of the artifacts in his collection, Game of Death, allows him to store those he's killed inside a string of beads and summon them later as Jiangshi under his control. It's stolen by Andy and Fuuko and given to Mui so she can turn the fatally wounded Shen into a jiangshi.
  • Arc Villain: Acts as the main antagonist of the Summer Arc, allying himself with UMA Summer in order to test the strength of the Union and Shen in particular.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: He's able to leave a crack in Tatiana's mech with just his bare palm, implied to be a result of his ability.
  • Barefisted Monk: While he does make use of weapons on occasion, Feng, being the master of his own kung fu style, primarily fights with his bare hands. In fact, he finds using weapons in serious fights to be uncouth.
  • Blood Knight: Feng longs to be the "strongest in all creation" and lives to fight and prove himself as such, a desire that acts as the root of his teachings. He trains others to make them grow in strength so that he can fight them at their peak and kill them, not caring about them as people but merely as future opponents. He doesn't even mind if the quests aren't completed and Ragnarok happens, as to him, a battle with God is just another interesting fight for him to win.
  • Catchphrase: "'Jīngcǎi'", meaning "Not Bad" or "Wonderful!" in Chinese depending on how it's used.
  • Collector of the Strange: He has a variety of artifacts under his control, and according to Rip in chapter 49, collecting them is the reason he joined Under.
  • Evil Counterpart:
    • To Shen. Both are Chinese martial artists who specialize in hand-to-hand combat (with occasional use of a Magic Staff), even using the same style of kung fu, who desire to be the strongest in all creation. They even have similar flying cloud Artifacts. However, while Shen's desire to be strong stems from wanting to protect/avenge those he cares about and is something he's willing to put aside for the sake of those he cares about, Feng's desire is out of pure egotism and he will do anything, regardless of morality, to achieve it.
    • Adding to this, Shen is heavily based on Sun Wukong from Journey to the West, carrying the same Nyoi-Kinko Staff as Wukong did. Meanwhile, Feng carries the Zuishin Tekkan Rod, a weapon used by the Six Eared Macaque, another character from Journey to the West who impersonated Sun Wukong and was meant to represent the "dark side" of Wukong if he went down the wrong path.
  • Evil Mentor:
    • Is this in general, as he trains his pupils not to make them stronger for their own sake, but so that he can battle them at their peak strength and prove himself the "strongest in all creation." He has no qualms killing past pupils when newer ones with more potential show up, will kill innocents to spur growth in his pupils, and he goes as far as to pit pupils against each other in death matches to find the stronger pick. All in all, he's a bastard of a teacher.
    • For Shen specifically, he gave the young boy a home, food to eat, and opportunities for his sister, Mei, all so he could groom Shen into the perfect successor. When he caught eye of Mei's potential, however, he forced the two to fight in one of the aforementioned death matches, which resulted in Mei's death. Years later, he allies himself with Under to test his former pupil's strength himself, and still uses cruel methods to push Shen further.
  • Facial Markings: He has a bindi on his forehead.
  • Fights Like a Normal: During their fight, Andy tries to figure out what Feng's Negator ability is, but as the fight continues, he eventually realizes Feng isn't using his ability at all – his strength is pure technique.
  • Flying on a Cloud: He can do this with the "Kokuto'Un Cloud," a darker version of the Kinto'Un Cloud Shen uses.
  • Fountain of Youth: He was an elderly man when he first took in Shen as his pupil, but is shown to be quite young when the two reunite in the present day, a result of using Life is Strange on Rip after the Unrepair Arc.
  • Hidden Depths: After his defeat, Shen asks if Feng ever viewed Shen and his other disciples as family. While Feng claims that he never did, and only saw them as fodder to make himself stronger, he does so under the effect of Mui's Untruth, revealing that deep down — possibly so deep that Feng himself could never realize — he did see them as his kin, at least somewhat.
  • I Need You Stronger: Feng wants his opponents to be at their strongest when he finally defeats them. As such, he typically leaves foes alive even after beating them half-to-death in the hopes they'll resolve to get stronger and face him again.
  • Instant Chucks: The Zuishin Tekkan Rod he carries can shift into a pair of nunchucks as well.
  • In the Hood: His face was completely concealed by his large hood before it was revealed in the Summer Arc.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: The moment Tatiana uses her power and Creed's poison smoke doesn't stop her, Feng chooses to retreat with Creed in tow rather than try fighting her.
  • Language Barrier: As a Negator, he was unaffected when Apocalypse made English the universe's Common Tongue. As such, he can only speak and understand Chinese, which makes it a bit difficult for him to communicate with his team.
  • Loophole Abuse: Feng figures out that Andy's regeneration targets wounds that could be generously defined as eventually lethal (even a tiny cut could lead to tetanus infection), and dislocates Andy's joints instead.
  • Magic Staff: He carries the Zuishin Tekkan Rod post-Unrepair Arc, a staff artifact with fire-based powers.
  • No-Sell: As the person Shen blames for the death of his sister, Feng is one of the only people Shen truly, deeply hates. Because Untruth requires Shen to like or at least admire his target, he is incapable of using it on him. Mui, however, has no problem using Untruth on him, feeling grateful to him for his actions allowing her to finally fight by Shen’s side.
  • Old Master: In Shen's backstory we see Feng as an elderly martial arts mentor. Technically, this trope still applies in the present, as he's de-aged but still is 170 years old mentally.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: His motivation is to find a pupil who can surpass him in strength so that he can battle them at their strongest. He eventually found this in Shen, but his methods of growing Shen's strength were less than savory.
  • World's Best Warrior: Though many characters have much flashier Negation powers, when it comes to raw physical prowess and martial technique, Feng is the greatest under the heavens. Deconstructed, as his monomaniacal obsession with individual strength has blinded him to connections with other people and The Power of Love. As Shen puts it, he might even be the strongest in the whole world, but that’s all he is..

101st Feng Kowloon

A technically new version of Feng from the new loop. He has previously encountered Fuuko after her appearance in the loop during the 1800s and has agreed to her terms just to fight her.

  • Blood Knight: Still just as hungry for battle when he first appears in the new loop. Fuuko exploits this trait to her advantage in the 101st loop as part of her road map plan. Knowing how obsessed Feng is with getting stronger, she constantly beats him using Unluck and tells him that in order to beat her, he'll need to train Shen well.
  • Fountain of Youth: He's shown in his younger appearance in 1972 during the 101st loop, when he should be around 122 years old because of being given Unfade far earlier, implied to be related to Fuuko's presence in the timeline.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • After being bested by Fuuko and being asked about his desire to become the strongest, he earnestly asks her what it means to be the strongest. While he rebukes her answer, it appears as though he himself is trying to find it himself despite extolling physical strength. As Shen puts it, Unfade's tragedy is that his inability to physically grow older makes him fixated on only getting stronger and Feng is more unhappy about this fact than he consciously admits.
    • When encountering Fuuko again after 26 years from his perspective, he ends up complaining about how he had to raise an infant Mei well as part of the stipulation for Shen to accept being trained by him, which included cooking and changing her diapers. However, despite his complaining, Fuuko noting that the safest place for Mei is by Feng's side and Feng doing little to protest implies he does care about Mei as well.
  • Irony:
    • In the original timeline, Feng caused both Shen's tragedy and his death. In the new timeline where he raised Shen and Mei from a far earlier age, Shen's realization right before Untruth manifests comes from understanding he wants to get stronger for the sake of people he cares for, which includes Feng. Furthermore, when Shen ends up sending Mui off the mountain after Untruth manifests, Feng ends up the end of the human chain saving them both.
    • As noted, Feng was the reason for why Shen died in the previous loop, which resulted in the latter getting stronger. Feng happily subjects himself to dying as part of Ichico's gambit for Nico to get Unforgettable when it offers him the opportunity to get even stronger through the understanding of souls.
  • Lonely at the Top: Despite standing at the top of the martial arts world, he could not understand why those around him were content in growing old and took pride in their disciples' strength while he was left alone.
Feng: Don't run from me. Don't just leave me behind. Don't leave me by myself.
  • No-Sell: Averted. Unlike his previous loop self, the 101st loop Feng can be affected by Shen's Untruth since Feng raised Shen since the latter was three along with his sister and didn't cause Mei's death in this timeline, with Shen being more like a rebellious adoptive son to Feng.
  • Stalker without a Crush: In the 101st timeline, he becomes this to Fuuko ever since she beat him in a way he found humiliating sometime prior to 1972 that puts him in an agreement that he cannot kill his opponents and he'll get one match with her for every UMA he defeats. It's evident that his fight with Fuuko in his first appearance is just one of the many matches he's had with her. His backstory implies some of this fixation comes from the fact Fuuko is the only other person unable to physically age like him.
  • Superior Successor: It's revealed Unfade activated when he was much younger, so he has access to his body's peak strength. But this led to a different tragedy where instead of being stuck as a old man, he's forced to remain at the prime of his life and watch other martial artists he was once interested succumb to old age, leaving him alone.
  • Tempting Fate: He was given Unfade the very second he challenged his opponents to keep coming at him until his own strength and age had finally failed him. Even considering how Negators usually get their powers, that's insanely petty.
  • Thou Shall Not Kill: Fuuko in the 101st loop puts him in a standing agreement that he cannot kill anyone after beating him sometime prior to 1972 unless he beats her in a match, which she's managed to maintain ever since as part of her plan to prevent Shen's tragedy, consequently changing how Shen views Feng compared to the original timeline.
  • What Is This Feeling?: While trying to neutralize UMA Colour, it turns into Ryou and makes Feng pause long enough for the UMA to get away. He's left confused about what made him unable to punch the UMA in that moment.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Feng denies it but flashbacks show he's much more affected watching his peers grow old and entrust their wishes to the next generation than he's willing to admit.

    Creed

Creed Deckard

Power: Undecrease

Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto (JP), Chris Tergliafera (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5af47431_e382_432b_8bf1_a9ad5c6e828e.png

"I'm about to pump you full of lead. If you don't wanna die, use your ability."

The Number 3 Negator of Under, a large, violent man that carries a multitude of firearms. His Negator power, Undecrease, allows him to infinitely replicate weapons and ammo.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Chapter 29 reveals that he lost his left arm after Tatiana released UT Area on the black market ship. Later in the chapter, he's shown to have replaced it with a Arm Cannon.
  • Arm Cannon: Gains one after losing his left arm, replacing it with a mini gun turret.
  • Bad Boss: His original superior, who ordered Creed and his men to fight until they'd expended all their ammo in a war zone, and then used Undecrease's manifestation to justify not extracting him or his men from the mission because it wasn't what they'd agreed. Said superior's wording also indicates he was sending the group on a suicide mission and never expected them to survive at all. Creed on the other hand averts this as he values human lives and it was this experience that lead him to forming Under with Billy and Tella to Take Over the World to prevent war.
  • Bottomless Magazines: A justified example. Undecrease gives Creed infinite ammo, grenades, and so on because it negates an exhaustible item's ability to be decreased. Andy actually notes how Creed can use his minigun without reloading once in their initial encounter as unusual.
  • Deadly Gas: One of the many weapons he carries are some poison smoke grenades, though he isn't a fan using them as much has his more destructive weapons.
  • A Father to His Men: The 101st loop reveals he was a lieutenant and cared about his men full of New Meat being able to return home. When his superior officer refuses to even extract his men because of Undecrease manifesting, he's furious and yells that lives are the one thing that can never be replenished. In the original timeline, said men ultimately lost their lives in the conflict, leading to Creed forming Under with Billy and Tella. When Fuuko helps rescue his men in turn, he's more than willing to join forces with her against his own country out of gratitude and then joins Union with said men.
  • Gatling Good: His weapon is a minigun.
  • Grenade Spam: Does this during his battle with Tatiana, bombarding her with grenades that he seemingly pulls out of nowhere thanks to Undecrease.
  • Hidden Depths: The 101st loop reveals that Creed used to be a lieutenant who was left to die in a war zone with a squad of New Meat for the sake of securing Disc, and his yelling about how lives can never be replaced indicates his Take Over the World motive Rip mentioned was actually motivated by this experience.
  • Logical Weakness: His ability effectively allows for infinite ammo, but it only activates after the ammo has been fully used. For example, when Spring uses its dice artifact to disarm the nuke Under fired at it, Creed is unable to launch another since the first is still technically active, and therefore not decreased in number.
    • The weapons he uses must be able to handle being fired constantly as well to keep the ability active. After being given control of a Wave-Motion Gun in the fight against Sun, he's able to provide it unlimited energy. However, despite that and an unbreakable frame, the cooling system isn't able to keep up and it stops firing.
    • Since he has to keep firing to keep Undecrease active, knocking him out will also deactivate his power.
  • Powered Armor: His 101st version has a mechanized suit similar to Void's that lets him be a Walking Armory and be able to tank hits.
  • Punny Name: Unde-Creed-ase.
  • Revenge by Proxy: He's evidently bitter about losing his arm to Tatiana, so much so that he tries to kill her best friend Fuuko when she temporarily joins Under as part of a bargain.
  • Shout-Out: His outfit, overall appearance and military background makes him heavily resemble Guile, in particular taking cues from Guile's appearance in II. His 101st loop counterpart's hairstyle in particular has his hair parted in a manner that highlights the resemblance further.
  • Take Over the World: His reason for joining Under, according to Rip in chapter 49, is to take control of the world's nations. The 101st loop heavily implies this may have been as a result of him and his platoon being left to die in a war zone by their superior officer.
  • Villain Respect: He gives Chikara credit during their rematch in Tokyo, praising him for growing in confidence and congratulating him for playing his part, while also insulting Top for failing to follow up on the opening Chikara gave him.
  • Walking Armory: He has an assortment of weapons on his person, including his minigun, a glock, grenades, and even some smoke bombs. His 101st loop counterpart also has Powered Armor from the Union that serves the same purpose, and is able to sufficiently protect him.
  • "X" Marks the Hero: Inverted. He's an antagonist that has a stitched cross scar on the left side of his face. Ironically, his 101st loop version that ultimately joins the Union has one scar horizontally, with flashbacks implying his cross scar came from his fight with Billy in the 100th loop.

    Bunny

Bunny (Backs/Bucks)

Power: Unback

Voiced by: Hina Kino (JP), Suzie Yeung (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bunny_02.png

"That's a weal pwetty gun you got!! Now, give it to Bunny, Agoo!!"

The Number 10 Negator of Under, a young girl who wears a large bunny costume at all times.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Played With. The manga teased her appearance a couple times before officially introducing her in the Autumn Arc's climax. The anime opts to instead show her full design in her first appearance in Episode 15.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Her gender is quite difficult to discern due to only her face being visible and her costume lacking any Tertiary Sexual Characteristics. The Volume 7 extras confirm her to be female, however.
  • Baby Talk: Talks like this consistently in order to seem cuter, mainly by switching her "R"s with "W"s.
  • Clingy Costume: According to the Volume 7 extras, she's actually stuck inside her bunny suit and has no idea how to remove it. While this made her sad at first, she felt better after Rip and Latla fixed it up and told her she looked cute in it.
  • Costume Evolution: When first teased in chapter 29 of the manga, her costume looked tattered and worn down, but by the time of the Autumn Arc it's been fixed up, looking newer and smoother. After the Summer Arc, her costume also gains a cute bunny face above her head to liven it up even more. During the events of the Ragnarok arc, her costume's Under symbol is replaced with a Union symbol instead signifying she joined the Union and assists in helping them capture key UM As.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Hates being called by her real name since it's not cute at all.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: In the manga, she's teased several times in the series before being properly introduced in Chapter 49. The ears of her costume are first teased in chapter 29 alongside the reveal of Under itself, her silhouette is teased on the cover of chapter 40, bits and pieces of the costume are teased throughout Under's confrontation with Anno in chapters 43 and 47, and even her name is hidden in the background of a panel in chapter 47.
  • Embarrassing Animal Suit: She wears an oversized, egg-shaped bunny costume, though she finds it cute more than embarrassing.
  • Enigmatic Minion: It's not been made clear as to why she's joined Under, with even Rip not knowing her motives despite being familiar with several other members' goals and being one of the people that constantly interacts with her.
  • Friendly Enemy: Despite being a member of Under, she gets along well with Fuuko just fine, not caring much about their differing allegiances. During the Ragnarok Arc, she even joins the Union after Under's members all go their separate ways and is even shown helping Shen and Mui capture an UMA.
  • Hair-Raising Hare: Downplayed. She's a member of Under with a bunny motif, but she's a friendly kid at heart who isn't really antagonistic at all.
  • Hidden Depths: Her full tanka poem as detailed in Volume 10's extras implies Bunny is far more aware of how broken Rip and Latla are than she lets on and wishes she could do more to make them happy.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: According to the volume 7 extras, she doesn't even know what her power is, let alone its mechanics. All she knows is that when she wraps something up, it can't get out. Unfortunately for her, this is also why she's stuck in her bunny costume.
    • This comes to bite her during the fight against Sun. After enveloping them using her power, she starts being cooked in her costume despite having detached herself. This indicates she's still somehow connected to the things she wraps using her power much to the surprise of everyone.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: "Backs" and "Bucks" are both equally viable translations of her Japanese name, with the English Viz translations opting for the former while the anime uses the latter.
  • In-Series Nickname: She's commonly referred to as Bunny in part because she thinks her real name isn't cute enough.
  • The Nicknamer: Gives out Affectionate Nicknames to those she's bonded with. Rip is "Rip-woo," Latla is "Big Sissy," and Fuuko is "Puuko," for example.
  • Punny Name: Her real name, "Backs/Bucks" (バックス), is only a set of dots away from being "Bugs" (バッグス), as in Bugs Bunny.
  • Shout-Out: In the volume 7 extras, she explains (with Latla's help) that her rabbit suit is called Pikilienta Pohles, named after the Mobile Suit SD Gundam Mk V short "Genesis: Pikilienta Pohles," which features prehistoric mobile suit blobs that seemed to be the inspiration for Bunny's design.
  • Sticky Fingers: She can absorb objects into her costume once she holds onto them.
  • Supernatural Sealing: Her power allows her to wrap things up in unbreakable shells. It's implied to be why she's stuck in her bunny costume.
  • Verbal Tic: Ends all her sentences with "Agoo!"

    Tella

Tella

Power: Untell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tella.png

The Number 2 Negator of Under, alongside being its first official member. He's an old companion of Billy's from his days as a mercenary.

  • Barrier Warrior: He can use his speakers to make barriers of sound, which Andy believes is part of his ability. He's proven right later into the story.
  • Communications Officer: He acted as the radioman for Billy's crew back in their old mercenary days.
  • Covert Pervert: Implied. Kururu's extra profile reveals Tella is one of the only two Under members affected by Unchaste, which functions on infatuation and doesn't work on those who don't understand love or have someone they genuinely love.
  • Irony: Prior to being rendered mute by Untell, Tella had a good singing voice.
  • Loophole Abuse:
    • He's unable to communicate in any direct way - speech, writing, Morse code, and even moving to try and tell someone something are all off the table. Indirect means of communication, like a speaker plugged to his head that can communicate his thoughts, is fair game. Similarly, Billy is still able to get yes-or-no answers from Tella by reading his heartbeat and body temperature because those aren't necessarily a form of communication on their own.
    • Untell negates anything that Tella can use to communicate directly about something. In other words, anything that directly communicates information to anyone will be negated by Untell, whether that be saying something about an oncoming attack to the attacker or a bullet going through his body, allowing Tella to turn Untell into a barrier ability.
  • Lost in Translation: His ability has a bit more nuance to it then its English name can communicate. The kanji for Untell is 不通, which manifests in his inability to communicate (通), but the characters can also be read as "stop," "suspend," "obstruct," and anything else that could be a term for "not pass/go through," hence Untell's ability to block projectiles/create barriers.
  • Not the Intended Use: Untell on its own only negates any form of communication by the user. However, Tella's interpretation allows him to use Untell as a barrier ability since anything that directly communicates information with his body will be negated, including things such as a bullet going through his body.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Invoked. The 101st loop reveals his tragedy was being given Untell when he needed to communicate to his crew (many whom were injured) about fully armed tanks approaching the camp. Untell negated his ability to communicate with anyone involving his body, including being able to run back to camp to warn them, which in the original timeline resulted in the deaths of everyone in the mercenary group save Billy, who was away from the camp at the time.
  • Punny Name: His power is Un-Tell-a.
  • Radio Voice: He speaks through a floating speaker rather than through his mouth because of his ability. His speech bubbles are noticeably more staticy then that of other characters speaking normally as a result.
  • The Speechless: Untell rendered him mute as part of its effect, resulting in him having to use alternate means to communicate.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Billy. They've known each other for quite a while and he followed Billy without him needing to ask, becoming Under's first official member in the process. In fact, when Juiz confronts the two of them in Winter's domain, Billy asks Tella to leave as his loyalty would make him a danger with Unjustice in play.
  • Wetware CPU: He has a floating speaker plugged into his head that he uses to speak. This is due to Untell negating his ability to communicate in any way that involves his body.

    Yusai

Yusai

Power: Undraw

Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka (JP), Risa Mei (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yusai_under.png
Click to see her when she was young

The Number 5 Negator of Under, a Japanese samurai who helped train Andy in the past. Her Undraw ability prevents her from withdrawing objects from other objects, and can be applied to others.

  • Covert Pervert: As Andy (who, because Clothy is currently being used by Fuuko, is completely nude) is explaining to all the negators how they can hurt Spring despite the rules that otherwise would turn them into cherry blossom trees, she can be seen in a panel trying to cover her eyes, but still looking at him with a prominent blush.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Before being properly introduced in chapter 48 during one of Akira's flashbacks, she can be spotted in chapter 29/episode 15 alongside the reveal of Under itself, though her face is hidden.
  • Left Stuck After Attack: One possible application of her power. Demonstrated when she traps an UMA in a pair of trees by its forearms during the 101st loop.
  • Logical Weakness: The classic trick of 'moving the stone with Excalibur' works pretty well on her, as Undraw doesn't negate the movement of the encapsulating object, only the separation. This actually works to her own advantage as well, as she can utilize her superlative swordplay even with her blade still in the sheath.
  • Master Swordsman: She's a master swordsman who taught Andy how to use the blade himself, notably teaching him the Waxing Moon technique which he frequently uses. It's even more impressive considering she still is able to neutralize an UMA in one strike despite her sword being sheathed due to her ability.
  • Power Incontinence: For her 101st loop version, Undraw is always active - she can't draw her sword from its sheath, she can't take things out of her mouth, etc. She gets around that last one by simply opening her mouth wider. Her 100th loop version averts this.
  • Rejected Marriage Proposal: After witnessing Andy's prowess with the sword, mastering all of her dojo's techniques in only a year, she asked him to remain by her side as the heir to her family's legacy. He unfortunately declined, leaving her in tears.
  • Samurai Ponytail: Her 101st loop counterpart has this, which makes her notably distinct from her younger appearance in the previous loop.
  • Sarashi: She wears a sarashi under her clothes.
  • Sheath Strike: In the 101st loop, because she can't remove her sword from her sheath due to her ability, she chooses to simply perform her techniques with the sheath still on.
  • Victory by Endurance: To give her village time to evacuate from a UMA, she locks them in place with Undraw and stays put, holding out for a whole week without food or rest before Fuuko is able to rescue her. Afterwards she aggressively consumes an entire buffet table in recovery.
  • Walking Techbane: Discussed as a possibility. Yusai’s lifestyle and combat techniques are already pretty low-tech, but she still is inconvenienced by Undraw when she has trouble with things like extracting chopsticks from her mouth. Thus, she’s omitted from the potential line-up for the Phil rescue mission in space in spite of her extreme combat prowess, as there’s no telling what she might affect in a complex rocket.

    Enjin

Enjin Banba

Power: Unburn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/under_man.png

The Number 7 Negator of Under, a man with a hardboiled image and an ex-ramen chef. His power Unburn negates burning and combustion within his range.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: The Unburn Negator is first mentioned as one of the rewards for the quests that the Union didn't claim. He makes his first proper appearance with the rest of Under.
  • Grandma's Recipe: Was mentored by his mother in becoming a legendary ramen chef, and perfects his ultimate, tailor-made dish, Senpen-Banka Ramen, as an act of love to feed her when she’s sick.
  • Irony: As revealed in the 101st loop, Enjin was only able to perfect his ramen recipe (which Fuuko eats) after getting Unburn, which made him unable to ever cook on his own again.
  • Logical Weakness: His Negator ability negates burning and combustion but doesn't negate heat, which prolongs Bunny's suffering as she burns in her suit from the heat Sun's body gives off.
  • Loophole Abuse: As noted above, his ability doesn't negate heat. Therefore, Enjin can use an induction stovetop (which uses electricity instead of gas) to cook, allowing him to cook for his mother after Unburn manifests.
  • Only One Who Likes Spam: During the ramen cooking competition, the Union ends up producing a dish which is technically competent but extremely lukewarm and thus only has niche appeal to Enjin’s palette. This is intentional on Fuuko’s part, as it serves as a message to Enjin that his definition of the ‘best’ dish is one which is made with a specific audience in mind (like his sick mother), and not necessarily the most popular.
  • Smoking Is Cool: He's a cool-looking guy who's always seen with a cigarette in his mouth, though he seems to have trouble actually lighting it. Given his power negates burning and combustion, it's a wonder why he tries.
  • Soup Is Medicine: After his cooking competition with the Union, they use Kinto’un to transport his food cart to Andai Hospital, giving ramen to feed and comfort the sick patients there, including his mom.
  • The Stars Are Going Out: He extinguishes the entire Sun (the celestial object, not the deity) with Unburn for 5 minutes during the Andy reunion operation. It still has an absurd amount of remnant heat, but it renders the surface walkable for a brief moment enough for Fuuko to communicate to Andy.
  • Support Party Member: His role in the battle against Sun is to prevent everybody else around him from bursting into flames from just being in Sun’s vicinity. In the 101st loop, he's a key figure in the plan to retrieve Andy from Sun that would otherwise be impossible for the same reasons.
  • Supreme Chef: His ramen cart in the 101st loop serves ramen delicious enough to make New Yorkers line up for potentially an hour for it, and Andy even heard about him in the previous loop. Unburn ultimately made Enjin unable to continue being a chef, but his perfected recipe he has Rip make for Fuuko and Bunny in his stead was so delicious it made Fuuko enough of a ramen fanatic to become known as the "Red Cap of Good Luck" within the ramen shop community for a century in the 101st loop.

    Kururu

Sadako 'Kururu' Kurusu

Power: Unchaste

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/under_girl.png

"True love is sincere. Infatuation is mere veneer."

The Number 8 Negator of Under, a former Japanese idol that goes by the name Kururu. Her power is Unchaste, allows her to captivate others by striking a certain pose.

  • Blessed with Suck: Played With. Having an ability that draws people's attention wouldn't be a bad thing as a idol, but she views having it as an unfair advantage over competition, forcing her to quit. On a straighter note, those captivated by her ability become violent with her, which would of course be bad if a stadium full of fans were affected.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Has her hair up in pigtails tied in frilly bows, adding to her youthful appearance.
  • Idol Singer: She used to be one, but had to quit due to her ability.
  • In-Series Nickname: She's referred to as "Kururu" by others to the point her real name (Sadako Kurusu) is only mentioned in the narration and her profile.
  • Ironic Name: Her real name, Sadako (貞子) means "chaste child", while her ability's name is Unchaste and makes her a Living Aphrodisiac.
  • Living Aphrodisiac: Her power makes anyone affected totally captivated by her, to a violent degree.
  • Logical Weakness: Her power works based on infatuation, so if either the target has never understood romance or the target has someone they truly love, her power will not activate. Kururu appears unaware of the latter loophole, since she's surprised when Fuuko escapes her. An extra reveal that her ability nowadays doesn't work on any of the other Under members other than Tella, who scared her into never using it on him again, and Sean, who is dead.
  • Magical Gesture: Her ability activates when she makes a heart with her hands.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: She has bright pink hair and is one of the nicer members of Under.
  • Too Qualified to Apply: An interesting case as she feels this way about herself. Her power makes it easy to build up fans but she also sees using it as unfair, which is why she quit being an idol and joined Under.

    Sean Datz

Sean Datz

Power: Unseen

Voiced by: Kento Shiraishi (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sean_full_body.png

"I'm through taking orders... from the guy who sliced open my stomach."

A Negator with the Unseen ability, which allows him to become invisible whenever he shuts his eyes and a Brazilian gang member. Apocalypse tasked the Union with capturing him as part of a quest, but they were unable to do so before Under recruited him first.

  • Ambiguous Gender: Due to being invisible in his first few appearances, his gender was impossible to tell. He was confirmed male in chapter 48.
  • Bound and Gagged: Rip does this to him after he's captured to keep him from running away.
  • Casanova Wannabe: The 101st loop version of him wants to have a girlfriend, with Chapter 189 having him try to woe Julia and the extra Christmas comic having him attempt to ask Fuuko to set up a mixer with older Union workers for their phone numbers as a Christmas gift. He's not particularly successful at said effort due to constantly acting without thinking, often getting carried away, and lacking social tact. This is actually the reason why Kinto'un has him under deliberation, getting him stuck partway through the cloud.
  • Exact Words: His rule states anything he considers belonging to him will also turn invisible when Unseen is active. As the 101st Sean is able to realize, what he considers belonging to him isn't limited to non-living things and could even be something more metaphorical, such as people he considers his friends.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: He's sliced in half at the waist by Andy's Deadline attack, bringing his attempt at murdering Fuuko to a swift end.
  • Hidden Depths: The 101st Sean was an aspiring actor and is a bit of a film buff, having practically memorized Dead Gang I's script and mentioned watching Armageddon (1998) over 100 times.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: Invoked and Deconstructed. Bafflingly, he argues that watching Armageddon (1998) over 100 times makes him qualified to go on the space mission to rescue Phil. While he and Gina do find a pretty clever way to use his ability to get on the ship by negating the perception of their weight and end up contributing, it’s clear that they weren’t remotely prepared for the ardors of an orbital operation.
  • Invisible Jerkass: Implied in chapter 9, where the first shot of him shown to the reader shows him using his power to steal an apple from a food stand. Later chapters take things further, showing him to be a violent opportunistic individual willing to kill Fuuko to up his own standing in Under, while also revealing that he abused his power for murder and robbery even before joining Under. His 101st loop self averts this since he met Fuuko before he was corrupted by the gang life.
  • Invisible Stomach, Visible Food: Averted normally, since his power also turns anything he considers his property invisible alongside himself. However, the tracking device Rip sews inside his stomach is initially visible even when his power is active, likely because he didn't consider that his property at the time.
  • Invisibility with Drawbacks: His power needs him to shut his eyes to turn himself and any items that he considers his property invisible.
  • Irony:
    • On multiple levels. In the original timeline of the 100th loop, the Union failed to capture Sean as part of a Roundtable quest. In the 101st loop, Fuuko and the new Union ends up capturing him. In a further twist of irony, Sean was originally destined to kill Fuuko in the original timeline of the 100th loop via a sneak attack. Here, Sean does try to stab Fuuko, but Fuuko, who had gotten stronger since then, quickly subdues him. To top it all off, the first thing Sean uses his evolved version of Unseen is using it to allow Fuuko to sneak up on Creed to knock him out, similar to how the 100th loop version of him killed Fuuko.
    • One of his motivations for stabbing Fuuko in the original timeline was out of resentment toward Rip for forcing him into Under. His 101st loop version helps prevent Rip's tragedy by stopping him from cutting Leila right when Unrepair transfers to him with Chikara's Unmove.
    • His 100th counterpart attempted to murder Fuuko to secure a higher seat than Rip. Chapter 188 reveals that Sean is the Number 10 seat in the 101st loop, Fuuko's original seat in the 100th loop, ranking higher than Rip.
    • For someone whose power involves turning himself invisible, Sean truly wanted to be an actor in the lead role, essentially everything being invisible isn't. Also, his ability at its full potential allows for him to render other people invisible as well, making his ability perfect for supporting roles.
  • Likes Older Women: Implied. A bonus Christmas comic has him try to ask Fuuko to set up a mixer with older Union women and get their phone numbers.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • His power allows him to turn invisible when he shuts his eyes, meaning that he can't see when he activates his power normally. He grafted a third eye onto his head specifically to counter this weakness. Interestingly, this weakness can be worked around for his 101st loop version if he's making someone else invisible, as they can still see while invisible as long as Sean's eyes are closed.
    • Likewise, his power only makes him visually undetectable to others, so he can still be detected through other means such as thermographic imaging because he can't erase his presence altogether. While training with Gina allows him to reinterpret his ability and extend the effects of Unseen to hide his body heat and even his weight to truly make him unseeable, Sean still can be detected through non-visual means like sound, which is how Billy is able to stop his sneak attack and Rip and Latla charging Blade Runner gives off energy that Sick is able to detect.
    • His power also only works on items he considers his property. So if anything he doesn't own is placed on him it will remain visible and give him away.
  • Loophole Abuse:
    • His power stipulates that anything he considers belonging to him will also turn invisible when his power is activated. As discovered in the 101st loop, this rule turns out to not be limited to non-living things he's touching, such as people he considers his friends.
    • As Gina helps him to consider, he can in theory make anything that could make him 'visually' seen invisible as well. This allows Sean to learn how to erase things such as his weight and body heat that could make him indirectly visible to someone.
  • No Self-Buffs: He's one of the few Negators to avert this in the 101st loop when he's able to change his mindset to extend his rule of "making things he considers his property invisible" to also include people he considers his friends, allowing him to make both himself and others invisible, including any other effects of his power.
  • Punny Name: His power is Un-Sean.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: In the initial Bad Future Anno Un saw, Sean killed Fuuko during the Autumn battle, which ultimately led to the Union failing to stop Ragnarök and the death of Juiz at Victor's hand, which itself would have put an end to the Union as a whole. Anno specifically acted to stop this from happening, his efforts ultimately being successful.
  • Superior Successor: His 101st loop version of him ends up this compared to his previous counterpart in regards to Unseen. While the original Sean could only make non-living things he thinks belongs to him unseen when the power is activated, the 101st loop Sean is able to make other people he touches invisible as well. Later, Gina is able to get him to learn how to extend his interpration of Unseen to even hide things such as his weight or body heat that could render him seen. The narration notes a big part of this was because Fuuko recruited him at a point before he fully embraced gang life and forgot his childhood memories entirely, allowing for Sean to be able to remember his father and change his perspective and mindset.
  • Support Party Member: He serves as one to the Union in the 101st loop because his evolved version of Unseen lets him also turn other people invisible, such as hiding Chikara so he can use Unmove without drawing attention.
  • Third Eye: He has a third eye on his forehead, which he grafted into his head under Rip's orders so he could still see things while invisible. The 101st loop version doesn't have one, which is the main distinguishing feature between the 100th Sean and the 101st Sean.
  • Uncertain Doom: When he was last seen in chapter 19, he's Bound and Gagged with a slash on his stomach courtesy of Rip, with Rip giving him the option to either join his side or bleed out. Chapter 40 implied that he took the offer, and Chapter 48 confirmed that he did.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: He gets unceremoniously killed by Andy after Anno Un ensured that he wouldn't be able to kill Fuuko. Instead, his 101st loop counterpart gets more involvement when he supports the Union.

A giant orca whale UMA that Under uses for oceanic transportation.

  • Big Damn Heroes: Inverted. Kain shows up at the end of the Unrepair Arc to rescue Latla and get a mortally wounded Rip to safety.
  • Companion Cube: According to the volume extras, Kain has mistaken the submarine Artifact employed by Under, D-2100, for a fellow nautical UMA like itself, and regularly brings it fish to feed. Tella tactfully filets the gifts to serve as meals.
  • Monster Whale: An orca whale UMA bigger than a cruise ship that can swallow an entire building and which has several extra limbs.
  • Multiple-Tailed Beast: Has two tails.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Kain is its nickname by Under. Its real name is UMA Kindness, as revealed in the 101st loop.
  • Stomach of Holding: It carries members of Under and their equipment around inside its large maw when transporting them across the ocean, though it never swallows or digests them. Latla refuses to make use of this because it's gross.
  • Team Pet: Is one for Under, having seemingly been tamed by them. Notably, Kain's actual identity is UMA Kindness, which may contribute to this.
