The series that solidified the SD Gundam sub-franchise! Based on the popular Gashapon capsule toys and model kits being released by Bandai at the time, Mobile Suit SD Gundam (機動戦士SDガンダム) is a collection of animated shorts made to parody the Gundam franchise.
Both SD Gundam Gaiden and Mobile Suit SD Gundam Festival are part of this series.
Tropes associated with these shorts are:
- Denser and Wackier: Remember all that the Gundam characters went through? All the horror, trauma, and bloodshed of an interplanetary war? Yeah, here they just get involved in silly cartoon antics.
- Naked People Are Funny: Elpeo Ple would typically be seen nude in these shorts. This is a parody to her being (at the time) a fanservice character, with her first appearance being running out of bath naked.
- Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Amuro, Kamille, and Judau set off to save a princess from Char in one of the shorts. After they rescue her and send her back to her father, she reveals that she's actually a guy. The three of them respond by going back to Char's evil lair and enslaving him, becoming the new dark lords of the land.
