"That amazing feeling of defying gravity! That, my friend, is something only we feel."
- Skylanders: Ring of Heroes

The Air element is one of the eight original elements in Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. The Skylanders of this element are usually associated with wind and lightning or the weather in general, but some of them are Air simply because they’re known for flying or are bird-like.

  • Blue Is Heroic: The main color scheme of Air is cyan, and many Skylanders of this element have a blue color scheme, with the exceptions being Sonic Boom, Swarm, Free Ranger, Scratch and Fling Kong (more white than blue).

Notable variants: Polar Whirlwind, Elite Whirlwind
Voiced by: Salli Saffioti (Giants onwards)
Primary Attack: Rainbow of Doom
Secondary Attack: Tempest Cloud
Tertiary Attack: Dragon Flight
Soul Gem Ability: Rainbow of Healing
Wow Pow Ability: Cloudbursting (Series 2), Rainbow Rush (Series 3)

Whirlwind is half-dragon, half-unicorn; unfortunately, both races' jealousy makes her an outsider (the dragons covet her beauty, the unicorns envy her ability to fly). Nonetheless, when trolls hunted both species, she jumped to their defense. The result... well, let's just say that evil beings are now terrified of rainbows.

She returns in the Giants toy lineup as a Series 2 Skylander and in Swap Force as a Series 3 Skylander called Horn Blast Whirlwind. She has a mini version in Trap Team called Breeze.

  • Action Girl: There's a reason why evil beings are terrified of rainbows.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Got this treatment from both of her species.
  • Badass Adorable: She's part unicorn, she shoots rainbows, she has feathery wings... even her giggles are adorable!
  • Combat Medic:
    • Her Soul Gem ability, “Rainbow of Healing” makes her rainbows able to heal her teammates. This is only available in multiplayer, however.
    • Many of her unique cards in Battlecast involve healing her team.
    • And finally, she was a Support type Skylander in Ring of Heroes before the game shut down. She doesn't have any abilities that can actually heal her or her teammates, however, instead having a passive ability of raising her resistance rate if her HP is over 90%.
  • The Dreaded: The trolls invoked Whirlwind's wrath by hunting both of the races she's descended from. The resulting Roaring Rampage of Rescue was so great that she's now feared quite greatly by the forces of evil. Yes, the dragon/unicorn hybrid who shoots rainbows (of DOOM) from her horn is The Dreaded!
  • Everything's Better with Rainbows: Heck, even a black hole (the "Rainbow Singularity" upgrade) is better with rainbows! Her enemies call it the "Rainbow Of Doom"note  for a reason.
  • Fantastic Racism: Justifiably, towards trolls, seeing as they attacked her dragon and unicorn brethren. Despite this, the image of her soul gem ability “Rainbow of Healing” has her healing Boomer, who is a troll.note
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: Wasn't accepted by either species due to her hybrid nature. This did not stop her from going on a Roaring Rampage of Rescue against the trolls for hunting them though.
  • Healing Shiv: After acquiring her Soul Gem upgrade, Whirlwind's Rainbow of Doom doubles as a Rainbow of Healing in two-player co-op.
  • Hybrid Monster: She's a dragon/unicorn hybrid.
  • Killer Rabbit: Is far more deadly than you'd expect from something that's half-unicorn and shoots rainbows.
  • Mood-Swinger: She has the grace of a unicorn, and the fury of a dragon; but she's been trying to curb her temper since becoming a Skylander.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Her unseen adventure in the Frostfest Mountain, which led to the Frost Elves erecting an immense golden statue of her that doubles as a handy storage platform for The Illuminator.
  • Roaring Rampage of Rescue: When the trolls started hunting the two races she's a hybrid of, she went on one of these that made her The Dreaded to evildoers.
  • Shock and Awe: Whirlwind's secondary attack is a "tempest cloud" that electrocutes nearby enemies.
  • Unrealistic Black Hole: One of her strongest attacks involves creating a rainbow black hole to attack her enemies.
  • Useless Useful Spell: Her Soul Gem ability allows her rainbows to heal her fellow Skylanders. This means however, that she won’t get any use out of it outside of two players mode.
  • White Mage: She alongside her mini counterpart Breeze are pretty much the closest the Skylanders series is gonna get to this archetype, being a Combat Medic in all games that has combat in them (console games, Battlecast and Ring of Heroes, though Breeze doesn't appear in the latter two) and using the power of rainbows as their means of healing. In the console games, Whirlwind and Breeze are the only Skylanders who are capable of healing every Skylandernote  compared to mobile games where other Skylanders also have healing abilities.
  • Winged Unicorn: Whirlwind is a half dragon, half unicorn, but for some reason has feathered wings instead of dragon ones, giving her the look of one of these.

"Full scream ahead!"
Voiced by: Lani Minella (Giants onwards)

A gryphon who hoped to protect her hatchlings, but a wizard was able to find her and curse her eggs; the chicks would hatch, but return to being eggs within moments and hatch again in an endless cycle. Making the best of a bad situation, she taught her chicks how to fight when hatched, and joined the Skylanders to protect others from suffering this kind of evil.

She returns in the Giants toy lineup as a Series 2 Skylander.

  • Action Girl: She fits the bill.
  • Action Mom: She's even able to get an assist from her chicks.
  • Area of Effect: Her Roar attack does damage in an area in front of her. Even more so when supplemented by her "Siren Griffin" path upgrades and/or her Soul Gem ability.
  • Cursed with Awesome: She trained her cursed hatchlings to assist her in battle anytime she needs them with effectively no risk to them. Sure, it's probably not pleasant for her, but it's certainly helpful.
  • Fusion Dance: Sonic Boom's Wow Pow ability allows her to combine her hatchlings into one "Super Baby" with a much stronger bite.
  • In-Series Nickname: Terrafin frequently calls her "SB" in the book Terrafin Battles the Boom Brothers.
  • One-Hit-Point Wonder: Sonic Boom's hatchlings vanish in a puff of baby feathers the moment they take any damage, and the player must toss more eggs in order to summon them back.
  • Our Gryphons Are Different: Sonic Boom resembles an opinicus, with her eagle's head and wings, but lion's tail, and four clawed legs. This also applies to her (normal) hatchlings; the Super Baby looks distinctly more dinosaur-like, with scrawny front arms and wings but a large head, back legs and long tail.
  • Splash Damage: Her "Echolocation" upgrade causes her sonic blasts to send out secondary shockwaves upon impact, which inflict additional damage.
  • Spread Shot: Her sonic breath already has a wide area of effect, but the "Medea Griffin" path of upgrades enables Sonic Boom to toss all of her eggs simultaneously, in a spread pattern.
  • Super-Scream: Her primary attack is a blast of sonic energy.
  • Weaponized Offspring: Her hatchlings can fight alongside her.

"For the wind!"
Notable variants: LightCore Warnado
Voiced by: Fred Tatasciore (Giants onwards)
Primary Attack: Spin Attack
Secondary Attack: Summon Tornado
Tertiary Attack: Whirlwind Flight
Soul Gem Ability: Thick Shelled

A turtle hatched in a rare Enchanted Twister, Warnado eventually adapted to it and learned how to use the wind. Now he only gets dizzy when standing still.

He has a LightCore version of him in Swap Force.

  • 11th-Hour Ranger: In a meta sense, but only if you had followed the series since day one. Warnado alongside Wham-Shell and Camo were the three Skylanders that were released in the fifth and final wave of the toy lineup in Spyro's Adventure, which would make them the last heroes to join the battle. This wouldn't be the case when Warnado returned in Swap Force as a LightCore figure, where it was released in wave 1.
  • Blow You Away: His secondary attack is to launch a tornado that sucks up nearby enemies.
  • The Bus Came Back: After being the Air Skylander of Spyro's Adventure to not return in Giants, he returns in Swap Force as a LightCore.
  • Instant Flight: Just Add Spinning!: His Whirlwind Flight.
  • Player-Guided Missile: His "Guided Twister" upgrade is fully steerable.
  • Power Glows: Lightcore Warnado's shell lights up.
  • Spectacular Spinning: His moveset runs on this trope. In fact, Warnado is so used to spinning that he only gets dizzy from standing still.
  • Spin Attack: Has one for his primary ability, and it is even called "Spin Attack".
  • Useless Useful Skill: The first upgrade on his Wind Master path allows you to control his tornados... which then becomes completely unnecessary when you buy the final upgrade, which upgrades the tornados to be able to attack enemies on their own.

"One strike and you're out!"
Voiced by: Alex Ness

Lightning Rod once lived in the Cloud Kingdom, beloved for his heroic deeds and good looks. But it wasn't enough for him. He eventually met Spyro, whose stories of his adventures in faraway lands inspired him to seek out Eon and join the Skylanders.

He returns in the Giants toy lineup as a Series 2 Skylander.

  • The Ace: He's considered the most macho and greatest of the Storm Giants.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: He was an Attack type Skylander in Ring of Heroes, both pre- and post-revamp, before the game closed down.
  • Big Eater: According to the Official 2013 Skylanders Annual, Lightning Rod consumes an amount of food considered overboard for a human diet. 400 eggs for breakfast, 25 whole livestock for lunch, and several sheep for dinner, anyone?
  • A Day in the Limelight: He's the main focus character in the tie-in novel "Lightning Rod Faces the Cyclops Queen".
  • Distressed Dude: In Drobot’s Episode Dungeon in Ring of Heroes, Lightning Rod gets kidnapped by Cyclops who wants him captured for allegedly destroying Cyclops City during the “Mask of Power” book series, prompting the Portal Master to lead a rescue team consisting of Drobot, Pop Fizz and Head Rush.
  • Expy: Bearded lightning-bolt-slinger? Talk about Zeus.
  • Flying on a Cloud: His entire lower half is cloud.
  • Fog Feet: As pointed out by Quigley in Spyro's Adventure.
Quigley: You have a cloudy butt! Hahahaha!
  • Hunk: Particularly in-universe, where he's apparently nicknamed "Rod the Bod".
  • Loved by All: His countless heroic deeds and appealing looks made him the most famous and beloved Storm Giant in the Cloud Kingdom. But that wasn't enough to satisfy him, as he wanted something more. So he joined the Skylanders after hearing about them from Spyro.
  • No Indoor Voice: He never drops below a drawn out, echoing shout.
  • Shock and Awe: He throws lightning bolts, summons thunderbolts from the sky, creates a electrical aura around him, gets aid from thunder clouds hovering around him, what more can be said?
  • Super-Strength: In “Lightning Rod Faces the Cyclops Queen”, he is able to punch a high-flying cannonball so hard that it cracks.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: All the time.

Jet-Vac was a daring flying ace from the land of Windham. Like all Sky Barons, he received a set of magical wings when he was young, but when Windham was attacked he gave them up to a young mother so she and her children could escape. Eon was moved by this story enough to seek Jet-Vac out and give him a vacuum device to replace his lost wings.

He returns in the Swap Force toy lineup as a Series 2 Skylander called Turbo Jet-Vac and in Trap Team as a Series 3 Skylander called Full Blast Jet-Vac. He has a LightCore version of him in Giants. He has a mini version in Trap Team called Pet-Vac.

In SuperChargers, he comes in contact with a Rift Engine and gets promoted to a SuperCharger as Hurricane Jet-Vac.

  • Ace Pilot: Well, he flies himself instead of needing a plane, but close enough. Fully qualifies as a Supercharger, where he even gets his own Ace Custom plane.
  • Bird People: His race, the Sky Barons, are this.
  • Blow You Away: His vaccuum cannon also fires bullets of compressed air.
  • Butt-Monkey: Courtesy of Eruptor, he spends the whole "Just Like Swap-Force" trailer in pain.
  • Charged Attack: One of Jet-Vac's upgrades enables him to fire a super shot every time he defeats an enemy by vaccuuming it up.
  • Combat Medic: He was a Support type Skylander in Ring of Heroes, both pre- and post-revamp, before the game closed down. His healing ability, after having charged up for one turn, heals one team member for 35% of their max health. It also raises the defense of every team member for three turns when charging begins. If he is the leader in the battle, his unique skill raises the effect resistance of every team member by 10% for the whole battle.
  • Do a Barrel Roll: If you take Jet-Vac down the Vac-Packeteer upgrade path, one of the attacks you can purchase is the "Flying Corkscrew", which allows him to literally barrel roll while hovering in the air.
  • Jet Pack: Allows Jet-Vac to move quickly, but takes time to recharge. It can be recharged more quickly by using his vaccuum cannon.
  • Mister Seahorse: Although he's a male, Jet-Vac has laid an egg in every promotional trailer he appears in.
  • One-Hit Polykill: His "Piercing Winds" upgrade allows his shots to hit multiple enemies.
  • Power Glows: LightCore Jet-Vac's vaccuum cannon glows, as does a central jewel on his armor.
  • Starter Mon: He is included in the starter pack for Giants except for the 3DS version.
  • Weapons That Suck: His primary weapon is a vaccuum cannon.

    Pop Thorn

"Straight to the point!"
Voiced by: Chris Edgerly

Pop Thorn hails from a race of creatures known as Pufferthorns. Often considered one of the cutest creatures in all of Skylands, they are generally quite timid and puff out sharp spines when scared. It is this ability that long ago led to the unfortunate legacy of being used as combs by giant trolls everywhere, being the sharp spines are perfect for brushing out tangles from their long, matted hair. But not long ago, one Pufferthorn took a stand. Tired of his race being used for nothing more than good grooming, Pop Thorn used his naturally thorny abilities to stand up and fight back against the giant trolls. Soon after, Master Eon made Pop Thorn a Skylander. And to this day, no trolls dare to comb their hair.

Scratch spent her youth soaring in the clouds around her floating city of gold and jewels, until Pirate Greebles came to steal the city's magic crystals. Donning specially made armor, she fought off the pirates.

  • Action Girl: A female feathercat who viciously attacks evil and defended her people from pirates.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: She was an Attack type Skylander in Ring of Heroes, both pre- and post-revamp, before the game closed down.
  • Badass Adorable: She's quite a cute creature with incredibly sharp claws to tear at evildoers.
  • Cool Mask: Hers can fire laser beams.

"Looking sharp!"
Notable variants: Legendary Blades
Voiced by: Robin Atkin Downes

A dragon whose dragon line was tasked with guarding the dungeon where the Golden Fear Serpent slumbered. When it woke up, Blades accepted the offer it made of leaving the kingdom alone if Blades took its place for eternity. Accepting this made the serpent vanish.

  • Awesome Ego: Initially believes he can do missions on his own and doesn't need anyone's help. During most of I Am Legendary, he taunts his enemies as he bests them and proudly boasts about his victory to his team over likely taking down the only lead to the Machine Magus.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Not just below the shoulder, his entire armor is bladed.
  • Blow You Away: Can summon a whirlwind that damages enemies and even follow him around if upgraded further. The whirlwind can also pick up his blade shards and spin them around, causing increased damage.
  • Break the Haughty: In I Am Legendary, he's hit with this after being overwhelmed by the Machine Magus, stripped of his ability to summon his Legendary armor, and outnumbered by Drow villains.
  • Character Development: Blades spent most of I Am Legendary endangering the mission with his recklessness and talking down to Bouncer, Night Shift, and Trigger Happy (who are experienced Skylanders), calling them "old timers" and "slow". Being injured, unable to call for assistance, and surrounded by enemies causes him to realize how much of a jerk he was to his team, and he considered surrendering his Legendary status to earn it back someday by proving that he can be part of a team. Luckily, Bouncer encouraged Blades to keep it after seeing how much the dragon has changed and officially became part of the Skylander team in the process.
  • Defend Command: He was a Defense type Skylander in Ring of Heroes, both pre- and post-revamp, before the game closed down.
  • It's All About Me: In I Am Legendary, he was incredibly arrogant and reckless after becoming the youngest Skylander-in training to ever achieve Legendary status. Blades believed he could take on threats by himself without help to prove himself to be the best Legendary Skylander ever.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: He is clad in knight-like armor, and was willing to sacrifice his dreams of becoming a knight for all eternity if it meant keeping his kingdom safe.
  • Starter Mon: In the original release of Ring of Heroes, he was one of the three Skylanders that were given to the player at the beginning of the game.
  • Storm of Blades: His secondary ability has him throw blade shards at enemies.

    Fling Kong

"Monkey see, monkey doom!"
Voiced by: Nick Shakoour

Fling Kong was a protector of the legendary monkey idol Kubla-Wa. He used his training in the art of Monk-Ru to defend the idol from a troop of Gorilla-Goos.

  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: He was an Attack type Skylander in Ring of Heroes after the revamp, after initially being an Expert Type.
  • Combos: A small version. On both available upgrade paths, the second upgrade will allow Fling Kong to perform a combo if either the primary attack button (under path) or teriary attack button (above path) is pressed after performing a carpet dash.
  • Cymbal-Banging Monkey: His tertiary attack has him using two discs to bang together and damage enemies with the sound waves. He may not be an actual monkey-toy, but it's close.
  • Deadly Disc: His primary means of attack. With upgrades, shuriken blades can be added for extra oomph.
  • Death from Above: His Soul Gem ability, where if his secondary attack is charged long enough, Fling Kong will take to the skies and make it rain down power discs that hurts enemies many times for average damage from each disc.
  • Equipment Upgrade: The first upgrade available upgrades his power discs to have spikes and do more damage.
  • Jerkass Ball: Grabs this alongside Fist Bump and Trail Blazer in the comic "I am Legendary" where they bully Déjà Vu over that they are going to beat her in the championship for a legendary status.
  • Magic Carpet: He flies around on one.
  • Monkey King Lite: Fling Kong has some qualities that either resemble or reminds one of Sun Wukong. He is of the Air element and flies around on a magic carpet, similarly to how Sun Wukong could fly on clouds, and while Fling Kong may not have the right outfit or accessories to look the part, the alternate colors used for his Awakened form in Ring of Heroes help make the resemblance stronger.
  • Shock and Awe: If the Carpet Captain path is chosen, the last upgrade, "Shock Treatment", upgrades Fling Kong's carpet dash to leave behind a trail of electricity.

From the moment he was hatched — in a storm, with his egg struck by lighting — Free Ranger has loved exploring extreme weather. But the Darkness is no mere storm, and Eon stopped him from jumping into the maelstrom to request his help in fighting it.

  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: He was an Attack type Skylander in Ring of Heroes before the game closed down.
  • Bird People: He's a bird-creature known as a Storm Chicken.
  • Blow You Away: He can turn into a tornado and damage enemies. An upgrade even lets him suck them into the storm.
  • Dual Wielding: Wields two "stormblades" in combat.
  • Pungeon Master: He makes a lot of puns in his voicelines.
  • Shock and Awe: One of his attacks is shooting lightning from his eyes.
  • Starter Mon: He is included in the 3DS starter pack of Swap Force.
  • Tornado Move: His secondary attack turns him into a tornado.

Boom Jet was an extremely competitive and daring sky surfer, but when the Darkness came he put his ego aside and used his skills to evacuate his village before it was destroyed.

  • Ace Pilot: A highly-skilled skysurfer who's always performing stunts.
  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: Put his ego aside to save everyone from his village before the Darkness destroyed it.
  • Death from Above: Can call in a machine gun airstrike directly in front of him. (That can be upgraded to drop bombs as well.)
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Some of his attacks involve throwing bombs like footballs.

Voiced by: Jess Harnell

Once a cloud wrangler in the peaceful Thunderclap Kingdom, Gusto learned to master the wind under the guidance of the Cloud Dragon. When a fleet of dragon hunters came to capture the creature, Gusto stepped in to defend it. He surprised his foes by repeatedly hitting them with his large "curved stick" until they surrendered & retreated. For protecting the Cloud Dragon, Gusto was given a new Traptanium Boomerang and became part of the Trap Team.

  • Balloon Belly: His Inhaler move allows him to suck in large amounts of air & enemies, giving him a distended stomach. He isn't any slower and can still attack.
  • Battle Boomerang: He uses a large Traptanium Boomerang.
  • Defend Command: He was a Defense type Skylander in Ring of Heroes, both pre- and post-revamp, before the game closed down.
  • Starter Mon: He is included in the 3DS starter pack of Trap Team.

Voiced by: Dave Fennoy

Thunderbolt was about to be bestowed the Storm Sword when a Frost Mage snatched it and put all of Skylands into a deep-freeze. Thunderbolt fought back and reclaimed the sword, and restored balance to the weather systems in Skylands.

  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: He was an Attack type Skylander in Ring of Heroes after the revamp, after initially being an Expert Type.
  • Fog Feet. Has a mass of clouds in the place of legs, much like Lightning Rod.
  • Oddly Shaped Sword: Be it the electricity motif of the normal version or the tuning-fork shape of the fully-upgraded version, his sword's shape is rather unorthodox, to say the least.
  • Shock and Awe: He can summon storm clouds and his Soul Gem ability lets him call down lightning bolts from the sky.

"Feather the storm!"
Voiced by: Stephanie Lemelin

Stormblade was an energetic young chick, who wanted to discover the bottom of Skylands ever since she was young. She never fulfilled this mission even when she couldn't find it from her manmade vehicle, the Sky Slicer. Master Eon saw her thirst for exploration, and asked her to join the Skylanders.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: On top of being considerably more bloodthirsty, her Ring of Heroes counterpart is far more confrontational, rude, and openly insults her allies, including nearly picking a fight with Spitfire, who's supposedly her best friend. While she's on rocky terms with Nightfall in the IDW version, it's much more on Nightfall's end than hers, and Spitfire is largely just frustrated with them not getting along.
  • Adaptational Villainy: While still heroic, her Ring of Heroes self is notably much more of an Anti-Hero than her other counterparts, being a lot more bloodthirsty and eager to stab her enemies to death.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Within the development of her, at least, which is what led to her final design. She was originally a light-blue peacock with purple feathers and was of the Life element. During the testing of her, a little girl told the developers that female peacocks aren't colorful and instead are brown. After that, Stormblade was planned to be a raven of the Dark element before finally becoming a lark of the Air element.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: She was an Attack type Skylander in Ring of Heroes, both pre- and post-revamp, before the game closed down.
  • Bird People: She's a humanoid lark. Notably, she doesn't actually have wings naturally, instead her wings are part of a flight suit.
  • Depending on the Writer: Stormblade's personality tends to varry quite a bit between mediums. Her mainline counterpart mostly plays her up as a dare devil, her IDW counterpart plays her up as more empathetic, worries for her allies, and is much less ruthless than Nightfall is, and her Ring of Heroes incarnation is more abrasive, rude, confrontational, and repeatedly talking about how much she wants to stab her enemies in the skull.
  • Feather Flechettes: Uses throwing knives that look like a cross between kunai knives and feathers. Her wings are lined with them.
  • Flash Step: Many of her moves cause her to move so fast she seems to teleport and leaves Speed Echoes.
  • Psycho Knife Nut: Normally not, but her Ring of Heroes incarnation is constantly talking about how much she wants to stab enemies with her knives and is generally far more unhinged.
Stormblade: Ooooh, I can't wait to drive my feather blades into their skulls and stick them straight up their-
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to Nightfall's Blue, but the Blue to Ghost Roaster's Red in the comic arc "Secret Agent Secrets".
  • Speed Echoes: When using her moves, she often leaves afterimages behind her.
  • Super-Speed: Stormblade can Flash Step and leave Speed Echoes behind her, and is one of the fastest Skylanders period.

Air Strike trained the endangered Blue Zephyr Falcons so that they could defend themselves better against dangers. After retrieving some of their eggs that were stolen by some trolls, one of them hatched a falcon that seemed to never want to leave Air Strike's side. After naming his newfound companion Birdie, they banded together and now train Imaginators together.

  • Attack Animal: He fights alongside his falcon, Birdie.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: He was an Attack type Skylander in Ring of Heroes after the revamp, after initially being an Expert Type.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Being a member of the Brawler class, this guy's got fists and he knows how to use em.
  • Death from Above: His Soul Gem; “Secret Falling Palm Strike!” has him jumping high up into the air by holding the secondary attack button, dragging enemies close by up with him and slamming down on the ground.
  • Multi-Directional Barrage: His tertiary attack has him spinning around and shooting air fists in all directions while Birdie drags enemies into the attack.
  • Three-Point Landing: How he lands after using his Soul Gem ability, with the palm of his hand being used to do a ground pound, damaging enemies nearby.
