Voiced by: Will Poulter
Body Motion Model: Jack Archer
"Heading into Little Hope feels like our only option."
An 18-year-old college student who is anxious and detached. On a field trip with his creative writing professor and three other classmates, Andrew suffers a concussion when the bus crashes, leaving him with partial amnesia.
  • Accidental Murder: He can shoot Angela in the throat after mistaking her for one of the demons.
  • Amnesiacs are Innocent: He lost his memory in the bus crash and is easily the most naïve of the group.
  • Big Damn Heroes Has multiple chances to save his classmates and professor whenever they’re in trouble.
  • Break the Cutie: A possible fate if the player condemns Mary in ruins of the Clarke household. With his illusion broken and unable to forgive himself for the past, he shoots himself in the head.
  • Deadpan Snarker: For all his kindness, he can spit out some wit if the player chooses so.
  • Driven to Suicide: If Andrew found the gun and every other character were previously killed, Andrew/Anthony will shoot himself in the head. The only way he can be saved is if the gun is out of bullets or if the player chose to save Mary, which will result in a hallucination of Megan stopping Anthony from taking his life.
  • Final Boy: Andrew is the central protagonist, refusing alcohol and the most innocent of the group. He is also the character with the greatest chances of surviving, by virtue of being the protagonist. Helped by the fact that with the exception of Vincent and the police officer, he is the only actual person in the main plot of the story and is impossible to kill off until the very end of the game.
  • Hero Killer: Can shoot and kill Angela after mistaking her for one of the demons and if encouraged to by John.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Averted. When offered a shot of whiskey, he declines it, despite the rough night.
  • Nice Guy: Doesn’t have a problem with anyone in the group. His dialogue options are also quite optimistic and friendly.
  • Older Than They Look: One of the game's more literal examples: his real self (Anthony) is actually 66 years old, but he's hallucinating himself as the 18-year-old Andrew, likely because this was his age when the fire that wiped out his entire family took place.
  • Only Sane Man: Andrew is seen to be the most level headed of the group; when the others start arguing amongst each other, he breaks it up and calms everyone down. Averted when you find out this all took place inside his head.
  • Plot Armor: Cannot die until the final cutscene, due to being revealed to be a hallucinative persona of Anthony.
  • The Pollyanna: A rare male example, if the player chooses to play him as one; always keeping his optimism and hope even if his friends are being massacred by demons.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Andrew can potentially find a gun in an abandoned cabin and not only keep it, but not tell anyone else in the group about it. If so, John will call him out when he finds out.
  • Younger Alter Ego: Is revealed to be one to Anthony, who mentally regressed to the age he was when his family was killed due to the concussion and amnesia he suffered in the bus crash.

    Angela
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopeangela.png
Voiced By: Ellen David
Body Motion Model: Kerry Norton
“I'm a natural survivor. A tough marriage and an even tougher divorce will do that to you.”
Angela was born in 1972 and spent several years in a difficult marriage before enduring an even more difficult divorce. At some point after her divorce she decides to go back to school, becoming one of four creative writing students on a field trip that takes an unexpected detour in Little Hope.
  • Age Lift: During development Angela was stated to be 52. When the game released her age is now 48, close to the difference between the prologue (1972) and present day (2019).
  • Ankle Drag: Most of her deaths are her ankles getting chained by her demon before being dragged away and killed by it.
  • Bound and Gagged: In a twisted sense, as her demon can bind her with chains and “gag” her with a black substance, killing her.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Just like Taylor, she sports a short haircut.
  • Chain Pain: A frequent victim of this due to the demon that's chasing her.
  • Character Development: She starts off quite self-centered, caring about her appearance the most. By the end of the game her appearance is disheveled, and at this point she no longer cares.
  • Cool Old Lady: Can evade and even fight hers and the others’ demons.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Angela will make a remark or snide comment when people start acting out of line or if she’s getting impatient. Most notable when John and Andrew are debating about who should break open a window.
  • Dies Wide Open: Most of her possible deaths involve this.
  • Down the Drain: Angela will get dragged down to the sewers no matter what, and the group assumes she’s dead. They’re wrong.
  • Dropped Glasses: Angela loses her glasses while getting dragged into the sewer. John can retrieve them if he goes after her, and will return them to her upon reuniting.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Her determinant deaths are pretty gruesome and brutal. All of them involve her choking to death, whether that be on her own blood from a gunshot or on a black substance from her demon.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Downplayed towards the end of the game, but at the start she seems to have a bad relationship with almost everyone bar Daniel.
  • Hypocrite: Is called one by Daniel if she tells Taylor to “try and be civil”, when she herself is constantly seen as the exact opposite of civil throughout the game.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Although she initially comes off as quite outspoken and harsh, she eventually warms up to everyone around her. Mostly seen after she reunites with the group.
  • Out of Focus: After she gets pulled down into the sewers at the beginning of Act 2, she doesn’t reappear until the start of Act 3.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: She's middle-aged, but certainly lacks politeness.
  • Sinister Suffocation: All of her possible deaths involve her suffocating on either her own blood after accidentally getting shot by Andrew or on a black substance from her demon.
  • Younger Than They Look: Angela could easily be mistaken for a senior citizen based on her character model, but she is in fact only 48 years old (aged down slightly from 52 during production).

    Daniel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopedan.png
Voiced By: Kyle Bailey
Body Motion Model: Michael Jinks
"Both of us are getting out of here. You’ll see."
A 20-year-old athlete who is attending college on a football scholarship. Daniel is one of four creative writing students on a field trip when their bus crashes during an unexpected detour into Little Hope.
  • Eye Scream: Almost all of his deaths involve his demon impaling Daniel through the eye.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: If the demon chasing him catches up, Daniel will be impaled through the chest and head.
  • Jerk Jock: Can be played as one, and needs to be to gain locked traits.
  • Lovable Jock: The other direction Daniel can swing towards, potentially being one of the kindest and most heroic characters in the entire game.
  • Red Is Heroic: Wears a red polo shirt and is one of the game’s protagonists.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Daniel is muscled and was basically poured into his clothes.

    John
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopejohn.png
Voiced By: Alex Ivanovici
Body Motion Model: Ian Staples
"Now, let's be logical. The fog is between us and the bus. There is no fog between us and town so let's head that way."
A creative writing professor who is chaperoning a field trip with four of his students. When their tour bus crashes in Little Hope, John takes charge of the group and attempts to lead them back to safety.
  • The Alcoholic: Used to be and is three months sober, but can become one again if he accepts a drink from Vince.
  • Badass Teacher: Can be this when fighting his and the others’ demons.
  • Character Development: Starts off as a cowardly teacher running away from the slightest noises, but by the end, he is willing to face off against his, and potentially Angela’s, demons to buy his students time to escape.
  • Deuteragonist: While he doesn’t have many playable segments if a perfect playthrough is done, his large amount of screen time, role as Team Dad and The Leader, as well as being Mr. Exposition and sharing most of his screen time with The Protagonist, Andrew(with both even having Plot Armor until the end), easily place him in this position.
  • The Leader: Naturally, with him being a professor while the other characters are his students. How good of a leader he is depends on the player’s choices.
  • Mr. Exposition: Due to John’s knowledge as a professor, he is the one to initially inform the group about the history of Little Hope.
  • Neck Snap: A potential fate of his if he's killed by his demon.
  • Off the Wagon: John is struggling with sobriety, and can fall off it if he accepts booze from Vince.
  • Plot Armor: His demon doesn’t actively try to kill him until near the end of the final act. If he and Andrew are the only ones alive, he cannot die no matter how many QTE’s the player fails.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Fitting as, in his own words, he’s a “professional academic.”
  • Team Dad: He attempts to be this. How successful he is depends on what the player does.
  • The Professor: He’s the professor of the college class and is even called so by the other characters.
  • Wild Card: Unlike the other protagonists, who are students, he’s a professor.

    Taylor
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopetaylor.png
Voiced By: Caitlyn Sponheimer
Body Motion Model: Cheryl Burniston
"I'm just gonna say it, this is exactly what goes down in horror movies."
A 22-year-old college student with a headstrong, rebellious streak. Taylor is one of four creative writing students on a field trip when their bus crashes during an unexpected detour into Little Hope.
  • Action Girl: If you give her the knife, she can use it to fight off a demon while in the graveyard.
  • Boyish Short Hair: She has a pixie cut.
  • Man on Fire: One possible fate, if Taylor is killed by the Fire Demon.
  • Neck Snap: Another possible fate if Taylor is killed by the Tongue Demon.
  • The Tease: She loves to playfully flirt with Daniel if the player chooses to ship them.
  • Torso with a View: If Taylor is killed by the Fire Demon, it'll burn her alive before punching through her back and destroying her spine in the process.

Little Hope Modern Day

    Vincent Barnes
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopevince.png
Voiced By: Kevin Hanchard
"Free piece of advice, you stay out of that place. It messes with your head. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about."
A longtime resident of Little Hope, Vince worked in the Ravenden Textile Plant during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. By the present day he is retired, and one of the few remaining residents of Little Hope.
  • Ambiguous Syntax: If you take a shot at him, he appears later in the game and tells the group that "They're coming for you." It sounds like he's talking about the demons that have been tormenting you all night, but in reality, he's talking about how he called the cops on you.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Has this in spades. The woman he loved died tragically, which he blames himself for. He lost himself in booze over it and fell into a near fifty-year-long depression, staying as the sole remaining resident of Little Hope after the mass exodus left it a ghost town.
  • Descent into Addiction: When you meet him at the Black Cat Bar, he's drowning himself in drink. It's later revealed that he descended into depression and alcoholism after the death of his beloved, Tanya Clarke.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He appears twice in the prologue before being introduced in the game proper.
  • Get Out!: A rare case of this trope being motivated by sympathy, rather than negative feelings. If he was treated well throughout the game, he'll tell Anthony to leave Little Hope... because he recognizes that Anthony has some bad memories associated with the place, that are messing him up.
Vincent: “You call for help and leave this place... and don’t you ever come back. Ain’t nothing left here for you.”
  • Hope Bringer: If the player is kind to Vince and resists behaving erratically, Vince becomes this at the end of the game to Anthony; convincing him that everything will be okay soon and that Anthony did everything he could in regards to overcoming his past.
  • Hope Crusher: Conversely, if you're antagonistic toward Vince, he becomes this instead. He'll call the police on Anthony, cutting short his journey toward self-forgiveness.
  • The Mourning After: Refused to leave Little Hope after the tragic death of his girlfriend, Tanya. It's even implied that he destroyed the bust of Tilly Johnson in town due to her resemblance to Tanya.
  • Older Than They Look: Assuming he and Tanya were of an age, he'd be around 70 years old in 2019. He's certainly looking well-preserved, all things considered.
  • Only Sane Man: With the exception of the police officer at the end, he is this by default, by virtue of being the only person in the present day who is not hallucinating or a hallucination.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Invoked with Anthony Clarke if the player decides to treat Vince well, resulting in Vince sympathizing with the tormented Anthony's hallucinations.
  • You Should Have Died Instead: He resented Anthony for apparently starting the fire, even writing "BURN IN HELL" on the newspaper clipping showing Anthony being released from prison. If you're antagonistic toward Vince upon returning to Little Hope, he'll be vengeful toward Anthony and have him arrested on claims of murder. Averted if Anthony's kind to Vince, forgiving Anthony and accepting that it wasn't his fault.

Clarke Family (1970’s)

    Anthony Clarke
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopeanthony.png
Voiced By: Will Poulter
Body Motion Model: Jack Archer
"I just wish we all could’ve made it."
Born in 1953, Anthony is the third adopted Clarke child and the youngest son. Kind, friendly, and caring, Anthony is aware of the problems in his family and is trying to fix them.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Has one at the climax of the game inside the ruins of his burned childhood home. Whether he succeeds or fails is up to the player's choices throughout the game up to this point.
  • Driven to Suicide: One possible fate for him in the ending. If he is the only survivor, found the gun and has at least one bullet left, has a positive relationship with Vince and condemned Mary, he becomes overwhelmed with grief and shoots himself in the head. Turns into an Interrupted Suicide if he chose to save Mary.
  • Dying as Yourself: A possible fate for him, should he recover his memories but fail to save his friends. Anthony will commit suicide, finally free from his Andrew persona and the repressed memories that haunted him.
  • Hearing Voices: Begins hearing the voices of his family at the beginning of the game. After suffering a concussion, this intensifies into apparitions.
  • It's All My Fault: Carries an immense amount of grief due to feeling responsible for the fire that killed the rest of his family.
  • Mental Health Recovery Arc: The entirety of Little Hope serves as this for Anthony.
  • Must Make Amends: This subconsciously becomes his goal after reliving his past traumas.
  • My Greatest Failure: Failing to save his family during the house fire in the prologue. The plot of the game even revolves around him trying to forgive himself by hallucinating the protagonists as his family members.
  • Older Than They Look: His age can be pinned down pretty precisely, making him 65-66 years old in 2019. Despite this (and the trauma of his past and injuries from the fire must surely have taken their toll) he only appears to be in early middle age.
  • Survivor's Guilt: This, along with the head trauma from the bus crash, are what cause his vivid hallucinations in and around Little Hope.
  • Talking to Themself: Is revealed to have been doing this the entire time, speaking to the voices he heard in his mind.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: He is the middle-aged bus driver of the college group. His left side is never shown clearly until the ending, revealing a burn mark on his ear from the fire that killed his family. After the crash, head trauma caused him to severely hallucinate, imagining every major and horrific event involving anybody but himself.
  • Trauma Conga Line: He lost his entire family in the span of a single night, all because of a simple accident. He was then saved from death by the police before he was promptly imprisoned on suspicion of intentionally causing said accident. The result was fifty years of repressed trauma that came flooding back in an instant upon hearing the name of his former hometown.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's virtually impossible to talk about him without dropping major spoilers.

    Anne Clarke
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopeanne.png
Voiced By: Ellen David
Body Motion Model: Kerry Norton
"Single-handedly keeping our family together is far from nothing in my book! I could use a little help!"
The wife of James Clarke. Anne was born on February 12, 1931. She married James on November 4, 1948. Her blissful family life was uprooted when her husband turned to alcoholism to cope with the stress of economic downturn and (real or perceived) impending job loss. As her family becomes more dysfunctional, Anne begins to become overwhelmed by the stress of serving as the glue that holds them together.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: In the prologue, she suffocates to death due to smoke inhalation in the bathroom after being locked in.
  • Doting Parent: Is hinted to be this toward Megan initially, resulting in her spoiled behavior. She consults parenting help books and when they fail, eventually asks Reverend Carson for aid.
  • Parents as People: It is clear that Anne tries to be a good mother. But Megan is a stressful child, and James's alcoholism (plus the potential loss of the family's income) stresses her out and she lashes out at both Megan and Dennis.

    Dennis Clarke
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopedennis.png
Voiced By: Kyle Bailey
Body Motion Model: Michael Jinks
"That guy's no good for her. All that ‘new age’ bullshit, reminds me of some creepy cult."
Born on April 29, 1951, Dennis is the second adopted child of the Clarke family. He is a guitarist in a local band, and has a prized collection of vinyl records.

    James Clarke
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlelhopejames.png
Voiced By: Alex Ivanovici
Body Motion Model: Ian Staples
'"You wanna try raising a family like this? The Devil himself would struggle with you guys."
The patriarch of the Clarke family. James Clarke was born on April 8, 1929. He married Anne on November 4, 1948. Since they could not have biological children, they adopted Tanya, Dennis, Anthony, and Megan. James worked as a foreman at the Ravenden Textile Plant that served as the economic heart of Little Hope. When the business practices of Mayor Sam Carver resulted in the plant facing shutdown, the stress caused James to distance himself from his family.
  • The Alcoholic: It’s heavily implied that he frequently hits the bottle, with Anne, Anthony, and Tanya calling him out on his drinking habit within the first ten minutes of the story.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: He's killed in the prologue when a part of the ceiling gives way and crushes him to death.
  • Descent into Addiction: It's implied that the Carver's decision to begin closing the textile factory where James worked slowly transformed him from a much-beloved friend to the community and loving father into a depressive alcoholic with no empathy toward his family.
  • A Hero to His Hometown: James was well-loved at the factory and even received a personalized memorial plaque at his job. In his private life however, the looming closure of the factory turned him into a depressive alcoholic.

    Tanya Clarke
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopetanya.png
Voiced By: Caitlyn Sponheimer
Body Motion Model: Cheryl Burniston
"I gotta get away from here. And my ‘wonderful’ family. Like, right now."
Born on August 22, 1949, Tanya is the oldest of the adopted Clarke children. As she enters adulthood, she seeks to leave her noisy family as soon as it is economically viable for her to do so.
  • Decoy Protagonist: She's playable in the Curator's Cut and she dies in the prologue no matter what the player chooses to do.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: Neither option for her to potentially escape the fire will work. If she tries to climb down the drain pipe, she slips and breaks her neck. If she goes for the windownote , she is killed by an explosion when she tries to open it.
  • Its Pronounced Tropay: Every time her name is said in the prologue, it's never the same way twice.
  • The Lost Lenore: Serves as this to Vince, who refused to leave Little Hope due to his mourning for her.
  • Lunacy: She loves moon iconography. Her necklace has a crescent moon symbol on it, Andrew can optionally find a wooden crescent with her initials on it in the police station, and a torn photo of herself and Vince that can be found at the textile factory has moon and sun symbols drawn on the back.
  • New-Age Retro Hippie: She's a full-on 70's hippie chick.
  • Noose Catch: If Anthony convinces her to climb down the drainpipe in the prologue, she slips and her scarf catches on a piece of the house, snapping her neck.
  • White Gal on Black Guy Drama: She's in a secretive interracial relationship with Vince, and through some subtle clues, isn't ready to go public with the relationship just yet.
  • Woman on Fire: She can potentially be burned alive in the prologue of the game if you try to save Megan, try to save Tanya and tell her to try and escape through the burning house, or do nothing.

    Megan Clarke
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopemegan.png

Played By: Ella Rose Coderre
"You could be right about my family."
Born on June 16, 1960, Megan is the youngest of the adopted Clarke children. Since she is nearly a decade apart in age from her other siblings, she is not able to relate to them in any meaningful way. Initially spoiled by her parents, Megan was eventually inadvertently overlooked even by them once marital problems began to take hold. This neglect has tragic results for the family.
  • Adults Are Useless: Zig-zagged. James and Anne were both loving parents who spoiled Megan, but then became dismissive of her issues after nothing seemed to work. It's later revealed through hints that Megan was sent to Reverend Carson for guidance, where he proceeded to abuse her and make matters worse until she eventually snapped.
  • Ambiguous Innocence: Her family argues over whether Megan is a problem or just an innocent kid, and the question of her involvement in the fire echoes the ambiguity of Mary's true nature.
  • Barefoot Loon: Has an Imaginary Friend (that may or not be demonic) and is never seen wearing shoes.
  • Book Dumb: Played for drama. Anthony can find Megan's school report, where it's shown that Megan does really poorly in school. It's mostly due to her parents' neglect of her and being abused by Revered Carson.
  • Break the Cutie: Whatever Reverend Carson did to her over their multiple sessions alone caused Megan to mentally snap, resulting in her hearing voices and seeing strange creatures that didn't exist... probably.
  • Creepy Child: Megan is a disturbing and strange little girl in the prologue, and most of her family consider her a bother.
  • Death of a Child: She dies a painful and cruel death by burning alive in the fire she accidentally started.
  • Kill the Cutie: She dies in the fire no matter what happens in the prologue.
  • Red Herring: The opening implies her to be a Creepy Child with supernatural powers who was responsible for the fire. In reality, she is just a little girl suffering from mental health and behavioral issues compounded with abuse received from Reverend Carson and the fire was a mere accident.
  • Troubled Child: Poor Megan. She's constantly brushed off and ignored by her family when she needs it most, as it's heavily implied she was molested by Revered Carson and it caused her great mental distress.
  • Woman on Fire: She burns alive in the prologue no matter what you do.

Residents of Little Hope (1970s)

    Reverend Leonard Carson
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopecarson.png
Played By: David Smith
"None of us here today can understand why this tragic accident happened. But we can take comfort from the knowledge that the family are together for eternity in God's loving embrace."
The minister of the church that the Clarke family attends from 1968 to 1973. He has been counseling Megan due to her behavioral issues and academic troubles.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: In a way, you could consider him this. It was likely his abuse that leads to Megan's (possible) involvement in the fire, which kickstarts the events of the game and Anthony's trauma.
  • Pedophile Priest: Daniel can find a newspaper that details Reverend Carson being arrested for abusing the children under his care.
  • Sinister Minister: Daniel can possibly find a newspaper indicating that Reverend Carson was arrested for molesting and abusing children.

    Samuel Carver
The Mayor of Little Hope during 1972. He was very corrupt, and his shady dealings ultimately drove Little Hope into irreversible decline.
  • 0% Approval Rating: He and his family single-handedly shut down the textile factory in Little Hope despite public outcry. This lead to a mass exodus of the citizens and the town's disincorporation, transforming the prosperous Little Hope into nothing more than a ghost town.
  • Follow in My Footsteps: Both Samuel and his ancestor, Reverend Simon Carver, were responsible in dealing tremendous damage to the town of Little Hope and its people. While the citizens were able to eventually recover after the tragedy of the witch trials, the closure of the textile factory proved to be the final nail in the town's coffin.
  • The Ghost: Never appears in-person, only seen in an election poster and referenced in some notes.
  • Mayor Pain: Corrupt doesn't even begin to describe him. As Mayor he crippled the unions and shut down Ravenden Textiles so he could sell the land off to crooked developers who were offering him a ton of money for it. Little Hope's descent from thriving industrial community to Ghost Town is entirely his fault.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: While it is not expressly stated, his lineage to known Satanist Reverend Simon Carver is hinted at, as Samuel's election posters are defaced with devilry images: An unusual choice for a simply disliked politician. Of course, Samuel's corruption and destruction of the town more than earn him a place alongside his murdering ancestor.
  • Sleazy Politician: The people of Little Hope definitely believed him to be this with good reason, as he's responsible for turning Little Hope into a ghost town.

Residents of Little Hope (1690s)

    Mary Milton
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopemary.png
Played By: Holly Smith
"I am called Mary. Would you kindly come play with me?"
A problem child with strange interests that could easily be mistaken for witchcraft by the superstitious Puritans.
  • Ambiguous Innocence: Mary is a strange, creepy little girl at the center of the events of the game. Andrew's decisions concerning her are one of the major factors influencing the course of the story. Is she a hidden evil? Is she simply a little girl caught up in much bigger things? The player's conclusions can shape which ending is obtained.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: If you pursue the choices of condemning Mary as evil, she becomes this alongside Rev. Carver.
  • Creepy Child: She can often be heard singing nursery rhymes and traditional songs in a creepy whisper, plays with some truly disturbing looking dolls, and is heavily implied to have framed Amy for witchcraft.
  • Red Herring: She is set up as the one responsible for framing the innocent townsfolk for witchcraft and the one causing paranormal activity in Little Hope. In reality, she is being manipulated by Rev. Carver into making these accusations. And on top of that, she is merely a figment of Anthony’s imagination as a stand-in for his little sister, Megan.

    Amy Lambert
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lhamylambert.png
Voiced By: Louise Atkins
Body Motion Model: Kerry Norton
"There's talk that I am in league with the Devil, that I am guilty of witchcraft!"
The wife of Joseph Lambert, and the first victim of the Little Hope Witch Trials.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: She is falsely accused of witchcraft by Carver and Mary, and eventually chained and drowned in a lake.
  • Dying Declaration of Hate: She condemns Mary as the true source of evil in Little Hope before being thrown into the river.
  • Identical Stranger: She's a dead ringer for modern-day Angela, something John and Andrew are conflicted about pointing out to her.
  • The Lost Lenore: To her husband Joseph after she is executed for witchcraft. Although, he eventually joins her when is himself is accused of witchcraft.
  • Miscarriage of Justice: She's executed for witchcraft, despite all evidence pointing to her innocence, in what seems to be a frame-job cooked up between Mary and the priest.
  • Together in Death: Joseph is not spared from Carver either, and he is later crushed to death, she thus joins her husband in death.

    Joseph Lambert
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlehopejoseph.png
Voiced By: Martin Walsh
Body Motion Model: Ian Staples
"I’m no disciple of the devil. Our town is infected with madness!"
The husband, and later widower, of Amy Lambert. Joseph attempts to restore justice by exposing Mary as the real evil in Little Hope.

  • Happily Married: He loves Amy and never buys into the rumors of her supposed witchery.
  • Miscarriage of Justice: It's implied that Carver had Joseph executed so that he would have an excuse to seize his land. Judge Wyman followed through since he believed the claim Amy was a witch and the couple did witchcraft together.
  • Together in Death: Joseph is not spared from Carver either, and he is later crushed to death, thus joining his wife in death.

    Abraham Alastor

Voiced by: Will Poulter
Body Motion Model: Jack Archer
"Only the devil could create a demon who so resembles me."
A resident of Little Hope who becomes the legal guardian of Mary Milton after the death of her older siblings.
  • Alliterative Name: Abraham Alastor.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Abraham greatly cares about Mary after she is put under his care when her siblings get executed, and firmly believes she is being used against her will for the witchcraft accusations. If Andrew takes Mary's side during the final trial, Abraham will as well, defending her at all costs by accusing Carver or demanding to burn the doll.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: The only character portrayed by Will Poulter to have long hair, and it definitely makes him look good.
  • Only Sane Man: Is apparently the only person in the village besides Joseph that realizes that Mary and Carver are the real cause of the witch trials.
  • Parental Substitute: After Tabitha and David get killed, Abraham takes Mary under his wing.

    Tabitha Milton
Voiced by: Rebecca Brierley
Body Motion Model: Cheryl Burniston
"Suspicion and betrayal walk side by side in Little Hope. No one is safe."
The older sister of David and Mary Milton, and the second victim of Reverend Carver’s inquisition.
  • Burn the Witch!: If Tanya burned to death in the prologue, Tabitha is burned at the stake. Alternatively, she is hanged if Tanya attempted to climb down the drainpipe.
  • Cassandra Truth: She tells the complete truth about Mary's doll: It's just a child's plaything that Mary made herself. Carver declares that it is a poppet and has Tabitha executed for it. Mary herself denies Tabitha's claims.
  • Miscarriage of Justice: Like Amy before her, she was executed for witchcraft. Also like Amy before her, there appears to be no real evidence of this.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Tabitha hides Mary's doll, believing that if people see it, they'll think she uses it as a poppet for witchcraft. The existence of the doll is considered evidence that Tabitha herself is a witch.
  • Woman on Fire: If Tanya died in the house earlier in the game, then Tabitha will be burned at the stake.

    David Milton
Voiced by: Scott Haining
Body Motion Model: Michael Jinks
The brother of Mary and Tabitha Milton.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Strangely enough, David's form of execution is to be thrown from the church tower to be impaled on the spiked fence below. This is one of the clues indicating David's death is connected to Dennis Clarke's.
  • Excessive Mourning: Mary states that David is acting strangely because he is mourning the late Tabitha, not because he is practicing witchcraft. Carver doesn't care and has him killed anyway.
  • Miscarriage of Justice: Like Amy or Tabitha, David is certainly no witch, but he is condemned as one anyway.

    Reverend Simon Carver

Played By: David Smith
"I will see this town purged of all evil!"
A Puritan Minister who leads the Church of Little Hope from 1688 to 1692. Regarded by the townspeople as an almost saintly figure, he is actually a corrupt sociopath who fully exploits his carefully cultivated image for personal gain.
  • Amoral Attorney: Fits this to a degree, given his authority within the court at that period in time. The fact that he was purposefully sentencing innocents to death and coercing a child into serving as his pawn solidifies it.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: If you choose to condemn Mary as evil, Carver escapes justice and her spirit proceeds to murder everyone except for Andrew. This can also happen if you burn Mary's poppet, as Carver is never exposed for the evil mastermind that he is.
  • Big Bad: Serves as this in Little Hope.
  • Burn the Witch!: Has a serious hard-on for killing witches and any who associate with them. Although it's possible that he was just using the accusations of witchcraft as a means to eliminate Mary's guardians so he could have her to himself.
  • Hypocrite: Massively so. He repeatedly has people subjected to horrific executions on the charge of dabbling in the occult and witchcraft, but he's the only one in the entire town actually doing so. The inside of his Bible is covered in occult drawings.
  • Kangaroo Court: Takes advantage of the fact that he's a nigh-unimpeachable authority figure to facilitate these. His go-to tactic seems to be forcing Mary to accuse someone of witchcraft so that he can railroad them at the trial with bullshit evidence that the defense cannot possibly refute. Such as making Mary pretend to have a seizure so that he could have Amy touch her and "cure" her to prove that Amy is a witch.
  • The Last Thing You Ever See: His face can be seen smirking malevolently within the eyes of the demons if they proceed to kill a character within the abandoned Clarke household. It should be noted this can only be witnessed if the player chose to condemn Mary, giving Carver the last laugh from beyond.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Mary is initially set up as the Big Bad, until you start piecing all the evidence together. Eventually it's revealed that Carver was using her as his instrument to sentence innocent people to death.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: His name is Carver, and he carves up the community.
  • Sadist: Joshua accuses him of taking pleasure in the executions he facilitates.
  • Sinister Minister: He's the driving force behind many of the accusations of Witchcraft in Little Hope, was dabbling in the Occult himself, and possibly abused Mary.
  • Walking Spoiler: Much like Anthony, discussing much about him can easily spoil major plot revelations.

    Judge Thomas Wyman

Voiced By: Adam Jowett
Body Motion Model: Jozef Aoki
"Allow me to judge what is true."

  • Black Viking: He looks to have Asian features, which would be highly unusual in colonial America. This is a hint that the visions of the past are simply part of Anthony's delusions, as Wyman looks identical to Anthony's neighbor.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He is willing to push back on Carver's accusations to an extent. He is also the one to take Abraham's accusations against Carver seriously and helps expose his treachery.
    Marshal Isaac Worel

Voiced By: Freddie Bolt
Body Motion Model: Dawid Kocieda
"You will pay dearly for bewitching an innocent child!"
As the resident lawman in Little Hope, Isaac serves as the bailiff at the trials, while also carrying out any arrests or executions ordered by the Court.
  • The Dragon: Though he actually takes his orders from Judge Wyman, he ends up inadvertently doing much of Reverend Carver’s dirty work.
  • Identical Stranger: He's a dead ringer for the cop that talks to Anthony in the opening cutscene.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: He’s just doing what he has been ordered to do. He distances himself from Reverend Carver once he is exposed.
  • The Quiet One: Only has a couple lines.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He will execute Mary if she is not exonerated.
