This story's ending is for me to decide!Original Japanese line

The protagonist and titular rider of Saber. A fantasy novelist and owner of the Fantastic Kamiyama Bookstore, Touma is chosen to become Kamen Rider Saber and roped into stopping the reality-eating Megid from replacing his reality with their own. He wields the Sword of Flames Rekka and its token Wonder Ride Book Brave Dragon. Later on he wields the Haouken Xross Saber, which is the unified form and powers of all of the elemental swords.

Tropes that apply to Touma in general
  • All-Loving Hero: He is shown to be willing to reach out towards his enemies, even against the likes of Storious and Isaac.
  • Ascended Fanboy: In the non-canon Kamen Rider Saber Prologue episodenote , Touma is shown to be a fan of Aruto Hiden and compiles a two-page report of his activities. He then ends up becoming a Kamen Rider like Aruto himself.
  • Ascended to a Higher Plane of Existence: He becomes Wonder World's new guardian after saving and recreating both it and Earth.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Once he steps up his game and stops relying solely on the powers of his Wonder Ride Books, Touma demonstrates a talent at learning by observation. He learns how to Catch and Return enemy projectiles with his sword just by seeing Tetsuo do it to him once, and is the first to discern the fatal flaw in Ryoga's fighting style that makes his time manipulation beatable.
  • Baritone of Strength: He has a fairly husky voice (especially when compared to his predecessor) and is a Kamen Rider.
  • Been There, Shaped History: In Superhero Senki, he persuaded Shotaro Ishinomori to keep on writing and to draw the heroes he wanted to draw, leading him to create Kamen Rider. Ergo, none of the Kamen Riders or Super Sentai would exist if not for Touma.
  • Being Good Sucks:
    • As per franchise tradition. Not only having to shoulder the pain of losing his childhood friends, he also has to grapple with the fact that the Sword of Logos is at odds with him, including people he considered friends, and the fact that even with his powers as a swordsman there are people he failed to save altogether. No wonder he's rather mopey.
    • This is also the reason Primitive Dragon (as in the skeletal dragon itself, not the book it's stored in) is so clingy with him even though it manifests as an extremely lethal Omnicidal Maniac. According to the Story of Sorrow mentioned by Touma and Master Logos, it went through the exact same trauma as he did, except instead of the Sword of Logos being at odds with one New Meat, it's humanity being at odds with its entire species to the point of genocide.
  • Berserk Button: People using books other than to give joy does not make him happy in the slightest.
  • Bookworm: Aside from the obvious job titles, he loves books with a burning passion and fully believes that books should give everyone joy. This crosses into him being a Badass Bookworm, given the fact that he is a Kamen Rider.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He's a talented writer and generally a competent and very perceptive individual, but even he can get a bit overly excited whenever he has a new idea for a story, often to the point of ignoring his surroundings.
  • Cassandra Truth: Touma tries to tell the Sword of Logos why Daichi Kamijo betrayed the Sword of Logos, but none of them, especially Rintaro believe him. They also don't believe him when he tells them the new Megid that have been appearing recently are former humans. It isn't until Chapter 19 when Tetsuo does believe Touma's claims regarding the Megid after their duel and hearing the human inside the Mamono cry for help.
  • Catchphrase: "This story's ending is for me to decide!", which makes sense considering that he is a writer as well as his tendency to Screw Destiny.
  • Childhood Friend: He's one to both Kento and Luna.
  • The Chosen One:
    • Brave Dragon, and subsequently Rekka, appeared in his hands without Daichi/the previous Saber explicitly handing the items over to him, suggesting that it was the Seiken and its book that chose him as their next inheritor. Chapter 21 also reveals that Rekka, being the first man-made Seiken, has special powers of its own that would only be unlocked by the wielder it chooses, which Touma eventually starts to awaken. This is what convinces Tetsuo to join forces with Touma in this episode.
    • The fact that Luna befriended him, a complete outsider as a child with no direct relation to Wonder World or the Sword of Logos, and the fact that he keeps progressively growing stronger at an alarming rate, has led a number of characters to suggest she had chosen him to inherit a much greater power in the near future.
    • The Forbidden Book actually responded to him alone, opening itself in his hands and transferring These Are Things Man Was Not Meant to Know knowledge directly into him, before converting into a Wonder Ride Book through the mysterious power of the Wonder World storybook Luna gifted him and Kento.
    • Chapter 36 finally explains this in full: Touma is meant to inherit Luna's power and guard Wonder World full-time at the cost of disappearing, which is what Kento's been trying to prevent. Yuri however believes Touma can change even that destiny, which is shown in Chapter 47 with the Wonder Almighty Wonder Ride Book.
  • Contrasting Sequel Protagonist:
    • Aruto Hiden was an aspiring comedian-turned corporate CEO, Touma is an author and bookstore owner. Both are eccentic and optimistic, but while Aruto was hyperactive Touma is much more laidback and down-to-Earth. It is also notable that Touma has opened up his small business, the Fantastic Kamiyama Bookstore, on his own unlike Aruto, who inherited his position as president of a large company, Hiden Intelligence, from his grandfather. Another thing to note is that Aruto got the Zero-One Driver, which was specifically made for him by his deceased grandfather, while Touma is the one to inherit Rekka and Brave Dragon after the disappearance of his predecessor. The biggest contrast between them is Touma never fell in despair even at the worst situation, while Aruto sinked in despair after losing Is in the final arc and briefly turned into an antithesis of himself.
    • From Takuro Fukuda's previous Rider show, Takeru Tenkuji is the sole heir of the Daitenku-ji Temple who follows his father's footsteps as an aspiring ghost hunter who become Kamen Rider Ghost after his untimely death at the hands of a Gamma on his 18th birthday, while Touma is an author and bookstore owner who become Kamen Rider Saber after receiving his Wonder Ride Book from his predecessor during his childhood. However, unlike Takeru, who started out being less confident, Touma was already confident from the beginning.
    • Both Shinji Kido and Touma are Nice Guys that transform into the red-colored Dragon Knight lead Riders of their respective series to protect innocents. Unlike Shinji, who was an Idiot Hero that tended to be a Horrible Judge of Character but could come up with unusual tactics in battle, Touma is a bookworm who tends to be very Genre Savvy with his knowledge of stories and can be a social expert at times. Shinji came off as The Unchosen One due to being an average guy accidentally stumbling into the Rider Fight, thus with nothing to lose or gain by entering, tried his best in attempting to stop the fighting, whereas Touma ends up being The Chosen One due to his Seiken and Wonder Ride Book choosing him to inherit them next, his friendship with Luna, and the Forbidden Book responding to him alone, with saving Luna being one of his huge priorities. Additionally, Shinji ended up clashing with most of the Riders in his series, only having bonded with a few, while Touma managed to befriend most of the Northern Base Riders (and Yuri) before his friendship with them became temporarily strained due to being framed as a traitor.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He was attacked by the Megid in his youth and failed to save his friend from being sucked in. It's implied that it's the reason why he keeps promises above all else.
  • Determinator:
    • Willing to stand up against a Megid untransformed and go through literal fire to save the city from being destroyed.
    • He also doesn't give up his quest to befriend the Primitive Dragon boy, no matter how many times he rejects (and injures) him.
  • Eccentric Artist: Downplayed. He's a committed writer and while he can occasionally be caught up in his storytelling, he's a remarkably down-to-Earth guy. The most eccentric thing about him is probably his fashion sense.
  • Famed In-Story: He's well-known as the author of the hit fantasy novel "Lost Memory". Even Takeru Tenkuji is a fan of him.
  • Fighting Your Friend: Reika's declaration of Touma as a traitor to the SOL puts the writer at odds with the swordsmen he'd just fought alongside. Three of the four eventually catch wise to the strange goings-on and defect, with the fourth going solo.
    • Positive example in Chapter 31. Touma agrees to Rintaro's challenge to absolve the latter's feelings of doubt.
  • Frame-Up: The victim of one. Reika declares Touma a traitor to the Sword of Logos after refusing to join their Southern Base. It was merely a ploy to force the Sword of Light to reveal itself.
  • Friend to All Children: He absolutely adores children, to the point of putting his writing on hold to tell them stories whenever they come visit his bookstore.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's a Kamen Rider and his knowledge of books gives him an advantage into figuring out what to do with the Megid, even while in the middle of combat.
    • His skill as a writer also gives him an advantage in another way when he becomes Xross Saber, as it lets him use his imagination to think up new attacks and counter everything Kamen Rider Solomon throws at him.
  • Genre Savvy: His knowledge of stories (such as the fable The Ant and the Grasshopper) give him an advantage when fighting.
  • The Hero: The titular main protagonist and Kamen Rider of the series.
  • I Gave My Word: Touma deeply cares about promises, stating he thinks of fulfilling promises as important as staying alive.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Touma discovers this as the Freudian Excuse of the boy within the Primitive Dragon book. Touma befriends him, saving his soul and unlocking the powers of Elemental Dragon.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: A flashback in Chapter 33 reveals that Touma had somehow gotten into a tiff with Luna, and avoided their daily meetup on the very day she was spirited away. If he'd been there even a minute earlier....
  • Instant Expert: Downplayed. While he does have some basic knowledge of how to wield a sword, his lack of experience with one leads him to instead rely on brute force and playing around with his Wonder Ride Books to get through his fights, eventually getting called out by Tetsuo for barely using his sword as a swordsman. That being said, when he gets serious he does show a capability to easily mimic other swordsmen's' techniques, and begins to tap into Rekka's true potential when he starts using it more.
  • Legacy Character: He is the one who succeeds to hold the mantle of Kamen Rider Saber right after his predecessor.
  • Magnetic Hero: His optimistic and creative nature helps him sway numerous people to his side during the "Betrayal" arc, when he sets out to unearth who the traitor in Sword of Logos is.
  • Most Writers Are Writers: The main protagonist of the series who is a fairly prolific writer.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Not him per se, but Rekka gains this power during Chapter 36, being able to sense when other Seiken wielders are in danger.
  • Nice Guy: Like most of the good-natured primary/titular Riders before him, Touma is a kind, positive person that won't turn his back on people, putting their promises above all else.
  • One Head Taller: Or more like "Two Heads Taller". He has this with Mei, sporting a whopping 24 cm. note  difference between the two of them.
  • Only Friend: The Primitive Dragon considers him to be the only friend it has in hundreds of thousands of years. Unfortunately, this comes at a steep cost to his sanity whenever it comes out.
  • Papa Wolf: In Trio of Deep Sin, despite deeply emphasizing with Mamiya and still seeing him as a close friend, Tomua makes it very, very clear he will not allow him to lay a finger on Riku.
  • Physical God: After unlocking powers like Xross Saber that can warp reality to his whim and becoming the next guardian of Wonder World.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Upon taking up Kamijo's cause to root out the traitor within the Logos, Touma's first instinct is to avert this. Upon reuniting with his friends, he immediately declares his plans, thoughts and intentions to them. Unfortunately, Reika got to them first and fueled their paranoia to the point they wouldn't listen to him.
  • The Power of Friendship: Touma's greatest strength comes from the friends he makes on his journey. He wouldn't have been able to unlock Xross Saber without them and in his final battles with Isaac and Storious he was aided by Rintaro and Kento.
  • Pun: He's a Kamen Rider, and is also a writer. This pun works especially well when written in katakana, where the words are one letter away from each other. note
  • Punny Name: His given name of Touma is a pun on the English word tome, which is a large scholarly book.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Dark blue in this case. When Touma gets the book Storious took, it seemingly corrupts and/or possesses him, leading to the creation of the Primitive Dragon Wonder Ride Book. And this is before he transforms properly and delivers a Curb-Stomp Battle to the Megid generals.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory:
    • Is the only one who's memories aren't affected after being erased in their own story, and convinced Shotaro Ishinomori to recreate both Kamen Rider and Super Sentai into one book in Super Hero Senki.
    • It's implied he still remembers the events of Trio of Deep Sin, possibly due to him keeping the Amazing Siren Wonder Ride Book.
  • Rookie Red Ranger: Our hero and a newcomer to the Sword of Logos. Most of the first arc (if not more) involves Touma adjusting to the fight he's gotten himself into and the other Riders trying to figure out just what to make of the newbie. This proves useful later as it makes him more willing to listen to Kamijou on the true hidden threat inside the guild, while the more seasoned members dismiss it as the words of a traitor.
  • Screw Destiny: Almost unconsciously, Touma has been doing this; being a huge Spanner in the Works to a large number of peoples' plans and expectations and going Beyond the Impossible, subsequently changing much of the timeline Kento has been so fearful of. Yuri believes Touma can even defy his destiny of obtaining Wonder World's power by sacrificing himself.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Is almost always clad in a spiffy suit and hat combination.
  • Sociopathic Hero: His personality under the influence of Primitive Dragon zig-zags between a downplayed case of this trope, demonstrating a Lack of Empathy and being out for blood with marginally higher senses than the likes of Hazard Form, and a genuinely feral creature that simply doesn't know any better.
  • Starving Artist: Subverted, Chapter 1 has Mei state his books don't sell well enough for him to make a living off of them but his bookstore, Fantastic Kamiyama Bookstore, seems to do sufficient business that he's not hurting for money.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Touma tries on multiple occasions to get Kento to elaborate on the Bad Future he's so scared of. Kento repeatedly brushes him off, inadvertently making things way harder for both of them than needed.
  • Superior Successor: To both Kamijo (as Saber) and Tassel (as the Wonder World's chosen).
    • He's far stronger than Kamijo as Saber due to not only mastering his blade and Wonder Combo, but also acquiring Wonder Ride Books that weren't even available to Kamijo such as Dragonic Knight.
    • Like Tassel, he becomes the guardian of Wonder World, but he can manifest in the flesh on Earth and meet with his friends, unlike his predecessor whose powers pretty much began and ended with Wonder World.
  • Take Up My Sword:
    • After Kento's alleged passing, Touma takes up his sword Ikazuchi.
    • In his death, Daichi entrusts Kurayami to Touma, however the sword (and its accompanying Books) were spirited away by Reika before Touma could get his hands on them.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: He's rather tall (with his actor coming in at 187 cm./6'2"), dark-haired, and quite the looker himself.
  • Tragic Keepsake: That popup book left behind by Luna, which doubles as physical evidence that the time he spent with her was real. During Chapter 33, turns out to be a Chekhov's Gun as well, acting as a key to opening Wonder World, and finding Luna in particular.
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: An self-aware example. Despite having dreams of how he gained the Brave Dragon Wonder Ride Book from the previous Saber as a child, he doesn't seem to actually believe it was real. Not even keeping said Book is enough for him to realize that it actually happened, even though Touma knows that he's forgetting something very important.
  • Unequal Pairing: A platonic and exaggerated case with the Primitive Dragon. It's implied to see Touma as an Only Friend after hundreds of thousands of years of Walking the Earth (a feeling which he at least understands having read the Story of Sorrow himself), but its overwhelming power clearly not meant for human consumption drives him completely insane and turns him into a form specifically designed to kill indiscriminately.
  • With a Friend and a Stranger: Forms this dynamic with Mei (the friend) and Rintaro (the stranger) by Chapter 2. Also forms this with Kento (the Childhood Friend) and Rintaro (the stranger) when Kento debuts in the series.
  • Write What You Know: Invoked; he liberally takes inspiration from persons, places, and happenings he encounters as a Kamen Rider for his manuscripts, and it's heavily implied that his initial output as a novelist before becoming a member of the Sword of Logos was fueled by vague memories of the incident from 15 years prior.
  • You Are Not Alone: Spends Chapters 30 and 31 attempting to get this message to Rintaro. It takes the two having an intense duel to make it stick.
    • Is now dead-set on getting this message through to Kento as well, though with very mixed results. Kento only gets Touma's message when he meets his still-alive dad, who's now a bird.
  • Zettai Ryouiki: In some of his outfits he wears socks pulled up to his knees.

  • Ability Mixing: Saber's Wonder Rider Forms give him the ability to use different elements with his main element of fire. One form, Wonder Rider: Dragon Hedgehog Peter, gives Saber the ability to use fire, thunder, and water elements together.
  • All Your Powers Combined:
    • Haouken Xross Saber (and thus, Kamen Rider Xross Saber) combines all eleven Seikens' Elemental Powers (with the exception Kyomu which is only used to balance out the energy generated by the sword's techniques).
    • Played more straight with the 11th-Hour Superpower called the Wonder Almighty Wonder Ride Book. This book grants Touma the ability to use powers of every single Wonder Ride Book, giving him lots of abilities at his disposal.
  • Amplifier Artifact: When Elemental Dragon isn't being used by Saber, it can be used by other Riders to further boost the power of their respective element, in the same manner as Hyper Muteki's Muteki Mode.
    • Xross Saber is less of a typical Final Form and more of this, augmenting the abilities of any forms or previous Seiken save Kyomu used through Saber's new Seiken to Final Form status.
      • BFS: Can manifest giant copies of the previous Seiken (with or without spectral copies of their associated Riders) up to at least twice the size of King of Arthur. Now given how large Gekido is normally, its larger size is the kind that you'd see a mecha wielding.
      • Storm of Blades: Able to create multiple copies of any Seiken to use at once. In particular, Xross Saber is able to summon and rain down enough copies of Ikazuchi to fill the sky.
      • Wave-Motion Gun: Suzune's Gun form becomes this.
    • A unique factor is Saber is able to empower other Riders. By using their Ride Books, he can make projections they can control remotely to fight through him and he can use the Xross Saber to create duplicates of their sword to give them the ability to Dual Wield.
  • Assist Character: Some forms have an additional entity to fight alongside with.
    • Using Peter Fantasista allows Saber to summon a Tinkerbell-like entity to assist him.
    • Using King of Arthur manifests a large Kingexcalibur that can mimic the movement of the smaller Kingexcalibur wielded by Saber.
    • Like in his base form, Saber can summon the titular Brave Dragon while in Draconic Knight form. Unlike his base form, it fully physically manifests and can fight alongside him, or provide extra power during his Finishing Move.
  • Balance Between Good and Evil: Not in a literal sense, but more between Creation and Nothingness. Supplementary materials state that Kyomu absorbs any excess energy not required whenever the Xross Saber performs a task. This allows no energy to be wasted and thus to be put right back towards creation if another task is required. It also explains why it was needed to birth the Seiken, but yet is not one of the blades it draws upon for power. Its function is higher than that of the others.
  • The Berserker: Unlike Hazard or MetalCluster Hopper that fight with a Combat Pragmatist mindset, Primitive Dragon is reminiscent to forms such as FangJoker and PuToTyra in that Touma is snarling and roaring like some sort of wild animal.
  • Beyond the Impossible: The same materials that list Kyomu's function as a Power Limiter also list why it's so necessary. The sheer power of the galactic energy generated by the Xross Saber is such that it can affect and reach as far as the entire Milky Way, and possibly even further. Hence if Kyomu wasn't there to balance out said energy, Touma could potentially affect reality on a galaxy wide scale and not even be aware of it.
  • Cool Sword: Wields Kaenken Rekka, the Seiken of Burning Flames. Upon the sacred ritual occurring, he gains Haouken Xross Saber the Seiken of Galactic Creation and Ruler of the Eleven.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Because of his lack of knowledge and experience as a Kamen Rider, he uses unconventional tactics to get by in fights. This, however, works against him in certain fights because of said-lack of knowledge and experience. Rintaro/Blades has no problem calling him out for it in battle when it backfires.
  • Combat Tentacles: Primitive Dragon's belt-mounted claw can extend on one of these.
  • The Corrupter: Primitive Dragon not only forces Touma into a berserk-like state, but it can seemingly affect other Wonder Ride Books as shown with Lion Senki when enacting a Finishing Move.
  • Dem Bones: Primitive Dragon has a skeletal motif, which is appropriately fitting given that it turns Touma into a savage animal.
  • Dragon Knight: Even more so than Ryuki. Saber has a dragon motif, is able to summon a dragon, and is a knight. He even gets the Dragonic Knight Wonder Ride Book which allows him to take this trope literally.
  • Dragons Are Divine: His motif is a dragon, and Brave Dragon is a Divine Beast-type Wonder Ride Book.
  • Dual Wielding: In Dragon Arthur and Dragon Eagle Arthur form, Saber dual wields his Kaenken Rekka and the Kingexcalibur. Gets played with when the awakened Kingexcalibur dual wields Saber and its own sword (see Equippable Ally below).
    • In Dragon Alangina, he uses both Rekka and Ikazuchi simultaneously.
    • After Chapter 18, he can do this with Rekka and Saikou.
    • Chapter 41 has him wield both Xross Saber and Rekka.
  • Equippable Ally: In Dragon Arthur form, he can become the Saver Saber for King of Arthur to Dual Wield along with its built-in sword. The saber in your hand indeed.
  • Elemental Powers:
    • Blow You Away: Using the Storm Eagle Wonder Ride Book, Saber is able to generate tornadoes and strong winds.
    • Green Thumb: When using the Jackun-to-Domamenoki Wonder Ride Book, it allows him to shoot Bullet Seeds and create giant vines.
    • Playing with Fire: Considering his motif is that of a dragon and he has the so-called "Sword of Flames", it's to be expected.
    • Shock and Awe: Dragon Alangina grants him access to Espada's sword, which also gives him his lightning powers.
    • All Your Powers Combined: Elemental Dragon makes uses of all the basic elements used by his fellow Kamen Riders. Xross Saber allows Touma to use the powers of ten other Seiken as well.
  • Empathic Weapon: The Rekka is implied to be. Its own ability to evolve alongside its wielder is implied to have the same effect on Seiken that clash with it; such as the Nagare in Chapter 31.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Saber really takes the cake here, as far as main Riders go. Due to the Swordriver's powerset splitting his body into three sections vertically, his default from Brave Dragon grants a red dragon-motive armor and a coat to only his right side, leaving the black and white sections on his left and middle respectively as blank slates until he activates other Wonder Ride Books that grant further mismatching armor for them. That being said, even the shape of his visor is mismatched.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: The Mage to Blades's Thief and Espada's Fighter. Saber's fighting style mainly using the power of the Wonder Ride Books in his possession instead of his swordsmanship. In fact, Saber is the only Rider that possessed multiple Wonder Rider forms.
  • Finishing Move: Saber can use different finishers with his sword or belt.
    • Seiken Swordriver:
      • Hiryu Shugekiha: His Rider Kick in any form.
      • Dragon Wonder: By pressing on the Brave Dragon Wonder Ride Book, Saber can do a fiery punch that sends a dragon construct at the enemy. He can also send a stream of fire at an enemy.
      • Hedgehog Wonder: Saber does a slash that covers the enemy in quills.
      • Saiyuu Wonder: Saber summons Sun Wukong’s flying nimbus cloud, and does high-speed attacks.
      • Eagle Wonder: Saber covers himself in a flame tornado. He can also send a flaming tornado at an enemy.
      • Hiryu Dohatsuten: Saber summons a dragon construct as the fairy grabs the Capture Hook, and Saber throws the fairy, enveloped in the dragon's flames, at the enemy. The fairy then wrestles the enemy to the ground before transforming into a bunch of needles/spikes that pierce the enemy and explodes.
      • Kaen Destroder: By tapping on the Lamp do Alangina Wonder Ride Book, Saber delivers a fireball covered in electricity.
      • Goryuu Shureppa: Saber does a flying side kick in flame energy, then delivers a second kick.
      • Joryuu Shingekiha: Saber jumps into the air as a giant manifestation of the Emotional Dragon Wonder Ride Book appears before him. The book then opens to spawn the three dragons that then coat Saber in a multi-colored aura as he drops down for a kick.
      • Ryuujin Tekkodan: Saber, in Dragonic Knight form, does a supercharged flame-enhanced Rider Kick.
      • Element Shuugekiha: Saber jumps into the air surrounded by multicolored energy and performs a flying kick with fire, water, and lightning covering his foot as well as wind and rocks circling his body.
      • Ginga Dai Bakuhatsu: Saber does a Flying Side Kick in blue and purple energy that swirls like a galaxy.
      • Crash Hissatsu Geki: Saber summons the Void Talon from the Primitive Dragon Wonder Ride Book and uses it to dispel an enemy atack before performing a roundhouse kick that leaves behind a trail of trhee cyan energy claw slashes to dispel a second attack. Saber then grabs the enemy with the Void Talon and throws them into a wall.
    • Kaenken Rekka:
      • Kaen Juujizan: Saber slashes at the enemy with the Kaenken Rekka.
      • Kaen Dohatsuten: Saber stabs the ground, causing the enemy to float, as he sends a volley of yellow needles, slashes with the Sword Crown, and sends a fiery dragon construct to bite down the enemy and explodes.
      • Kaen Tatsumakizan: Saber slashes at the enemy, making a tornado, as Saber jumps in, making the tornado enveloped in fire.
      • Kaen Buhizan: As Dragon Eagle Butasan, Saber summons the 3 Little Pigs, who construct a straw house around the target in succession. Then Saber creates a fire tornado to destroy the house and the trapped enemy together.
      • Kaen Melodyzan: Saber summons the Bremen quartet to land on the enemy, piling up as a mechanical dragon lands on top, than Saber does a slash covered in melody notes, before being crushed by the animals.
      • Bakuen Gurenzan: Saber slashes at the enemy, unleashing fireballs at the enemy that turn into a bigger fireball, before he does a second slash that explodes the fireball, incinerating the enemy. He can also perform a variation where he delivers a fire-enhanced slash or envelops his opponent in a flaming tornado.
      • Shinka Ryuuhazan: Saber delivers a supercharged fire-enhanced slash.
      • Crash Hissatsu Giri:
      • Brave Dragon: has two variations.
      • Saber summons the Void Talon from the Primitive Dragon Wonder Ride Book and grabs and straggles the opponent and either drags them closer before violently landing a powerful reverse-grip slash covered in powder blue and black energy, causing a deadly shockwave upon impact around surroundings, or keeps staggling the target until they explode. The former attack is strong enough to cancel the transformation of any Riders within range.
      • Lion Senki: Saber summons an evil version of Lion Senki, akin to a Wonder attack, that rams into the target, biting them until they explode.
      • Shinra Banshouzan: has three variations.
      • Saber charges the Kaenken Rekka with fire before gathering all elements' power and delivering a single rainbow-colored slash to the enemy. This pushes the enemy a few meters away before destroying them.
      • Saber charges the Kaenken Rekka with fire before he clashes with an opponent's attack. Upon breaking through, the enemy is struck with an red energy slash.
      • Saber performs a downward slash with the Kaenken Rekka covered in fire.
      • Almighy Hissatsu Giri: Grand Finale: Saber charges Rekka in fire and does a downward slash. This was in conjunction with Blades Hydro Stream and Espada’s Trueno Destroyder.
      • Shutoku Issen:
      • Brave Dragon: Saber delivers three flying slashes to a giant enemy.
      • Needle Hedgehog: The blade of Kaenken Rekka manifests yellow energy quills before Saber delivers a slash that launches all the quills at any nearby enemies.
      • Wonder Almighty: All of the Wonder Ride Books are unleashed and used by Saber, Blades, and Espada. The powers of the books are then used to attack an enemy.
    • Haouken Xross Saber:
      • Haou Sosei Zan: has several variations.
      • Blue sparkles surround Saber before the emblems of the ten Seiken appear on the Haouken Xross Saber and the sword is surrounded by magenta energy. Saber then swings the sword, creating a slash of rainbow energy that flies around and leaves behind multicolored sparkled. Saber continues performing graceful movements with his sword, creating more rainbow energy that repairs the damages surroundings, with rubble floating and reconstructing what it broke off of.
      • Saber's body is surrounded by blue energy with cyan and magenta stars appear around him. He then performs a 360 degree cyan and magenta energy slash that destroys nearby enemies, leaving behind rainbow explosions and an energy wave that resembles a galaxy. The energy wave continues traveling outwards and is capable of damaging other enemies that were standing outside the range of the initial attack.
      • Haou Bakuen Gurenzan: Saber flies into the air, slashing obstacles around him before deflecting the enemy's attack. He then charges the Haouken Xross Saber with light blue energy before launching a silver and blue energy slash with a trail of sparkles, which cleaves through everything in its way before striking the opponent.
      • Xross Giri: Saber can summon the powers of the ten Seiken for attacks.
      • Ikazuchi+Gekido: A giant construct of the Dogouken Gekido appears above Saber before he performs a downward swing, causing the construct to mimic his movements and deliver a downward slash to an opponent, destroying it. Saber then points the Haouken Xross Saber upward to the sky, causing numerous copies of the Raimeiken Ikazuchi to appear along with lightning. The lightning converges intto a single large lightning strike that shocks a second while the swords rain down on it.
      • Hayate+Suzune: Saber flies into the air as an energy construct of the Fuusouken Hayate appears above him and converts to its Shuriken Mode. Saber then sends the Fuusouken Hayate flying forward in a burst of green wind, with the weapon leaving behind green afterimages. It then splits into to its Nitouryu Mode and slashes two opponents from behind. An energy construct of the Onjuuken Suzune then appears in front of Saber and converts to its Gun Play Mode. An energy ball appears in front of its barrel before it blasts several enemies with a wide, sustained beam of pink energy.
      • Rekka: An energy construct of the Kaenken Rekka appears above Saber before splitting into five copies that encircle him. The swords then start spinning while covered in fire, blocking enemies from attacking Saber.
      • Nagare: Saber performs a series of elemental slashes too deflect enemy attacks. He begins with a series of water slashes, followed by a series of green wind slashes. He then performs a slashes covered in multicolored bubbles, and finally a slash covered in ice.
      • Sei Retsuzan:
      • Crimson Saber: Saber is surrounded by blue energy before performing a red and blue energy slash to counter an enemy's attack. He then summons Kaenken Rekka, Suiseiken Nagare, and Raimeiken Ikazuchi, which push Saber's energy slash forward. When the enrgy slash strikes the enemy, the Seiken separate and perform their own slashes, with Suiseiken Nagare and Raimeiken Ikazuchi delivering two slashes in an X formation before Kaenken Rekka performs a vertical slash down the middle.
      • Haou Sei Retsuzan
      • Xross Saber: Saber summons the Kaenken Rekka, Suiseiken Nagare, and Raimeiken Ikazuchi to perform fire, water, and lightning slashes, then summons Dogouken Gekido, Fuusouken Hayate, and Onjuuken Suzune to perform rock, wind, and musical note slashes.
      • Haou Xross Sei Retsuzan: Light blue energy and multicolored sparkles surround the Haouken Xross Saber before Saber performs a violet energy slash. Copies of the ten Seiken then appear in a line above Saber alongside their respective emblems. Saber then swings his sword again, causing the ten Seiken to fly into the air. Far above the earth, the Seiken line up while images of their users appear behind them before separating. Each Seiken travels to a different part of the world, with Kaenken Rekka returning to Saber. Saber charges the Haouken Xross Saber with rainbow energy and performs a downward slash. At their destinations, the Seiken, with the exception of Kaenken Rekka, destroy their targets while images of their users appear once again and mimic the attacks. Finally, Saber swings the Haouken Xross Saber, causing the copy of Kaenken Rekka to mimic him and deliver a slash to the enemy while an image of Saber in his Brave Dragon form performs the same attack.
    • KingExcalibur: he does several variations:
      • Saber does a downward slash at the enemy.
      • King of Arthur uses the Saver Saber and does a fire enhanced slash.
      • King of Arthur does a rising slash with the King Calibur.
      • King of Arthur uses both King Calibur and Saver Saber to do two powerful slashes at the enemy.
      • Saber uses both KingExcalibur and Kaenken Rekka and does two powerful cuts.
    • Shuutoku Issen: By scanning a book, Saber can an attack based on the book.
      • Needle Hedgehog: The blade of the Kaenken Rekka manifest yellow energy quills before Saber delivers a slash that launches all the quills at any nearby enemies.
      • Storm Eagle: Saber summons a tornado, than ignites it in fire and sends it at the enemy.
      • Brave Dragon: Saber delivers three flying slashes to a giant enemy.
    • Dragonic Booster: Saber can do flame-based attacks from the dragon head on his gauntlet akin to a Fire-Breathing Diner, marked as different levels of "spiciness" depending on the Books inserted into its mouth.
      • Spicy: Its basic attack that allows Saber to execute fire-enhanced punches that can cancel an enemy’s attack.
      • One Reading: Flame Spicy: Executes attacks based on scanning one Book.
      • Brave Dragon: Saber launches a concentrated stream of fire at the enemy.

    • Dragonic Booster, Kaenken Rekka and Raimeiken Ikazuchi Finishers:
      • Gouka Daikakumei/ Shinka Ryuuhazan: Invoking the spirit of Kamen Rider Espada, Saber does a cross slash enhanced by fire and electricity.
    • Dragonic Booster + Kaenken Rekka finishers:

    • Kaenken Rekka + Kougouken Saikou finishers:

    • Unnamed Finisher
      • Nisatsu Giri + Ikazuchi Iai: Saber charges Rekka and Ikazuchi in fire and electricity, and does two powerful slashes.
  • Good Counterpart: The Haouken Xross Saber is this to Solomon's Caladbolg, given that both are borne of a ritual involving the other Seikens. However, its powers are explicitly tied to creation instead of destruction, and is wielded by The Hero Touma against the Big Bad Isaac.
  • Hook Hand: When using the Peter Fantasista Wonder Ride Book, Saber gains a hook on his left hand.
  • Imagination-Based Superpower: Supplementary material states that Xross Saber can only show its true potential when wielded by someone with a creative mind.
  • Instant Expert: A franchise staple. As soon as he receives the Seiken Swordriver, he immediately understands how it works, and curb-stomps the Monster of the Week Starter Villain without breaking a sweat, even when it turns giant on him. Possibly justified, since he could draw the knowledge directly from his Wonder Ride Book. That said, when it comes to other forms such as Dragon Peter, he clearly shows a lack of knowledge when it comes to actually wield it, thus it backfires on him when he tries to brute-force his way through it.
  • Intangibility: By turning into flames/wind/water/earth, Elemental Dragon can nullify damage to an extent.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: And how. To contrast Brave Dragon's draconic warrior with a knight motif, Dragonic Knight goes full silver armor with red accents to play up Saber's and Rekka's tie to flame. It also provides a contrast between himself and Calibur's Jaou Dragon, where while both invoke the dragons they draw strength from, one's clearly the heroic one, and the other clearly evil.
  • Light Is Not Good: Primitive Dragon's armor is colored light blue, however the form turns Touma into The Berserker.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Dragonic Knight is Saber's first, just like Zero-One's Shining Hopper.
  • Motion-Capture Mecha: King Excalibur is a twofold example - in its sword mode, it follows Saber's sword strikes; in mecha mode, it follows his full body movements. At least until it starts wielding Saber himself...
  • Mythical Motifs: Dragons, naturally. Its design even sticks throughout every form Saber takes on.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Brave Dragon can fly without wings, swimming through the air serpentine-style like an Asian dragon; at the same time, its shortened neck, shrunken forelegs and huge hind legs are more in line with a Tyrannosaurus rex.
  • Power Fist: The Dragonic Booster on his left arm while in Draconic Knight form. Invoking Kamen Rider Ryuki's Dragviser it can scan Ride Books to utilize their specific powers.
  • Power Limiter: The Haouken Xross Saber is so powerful that it could warp reality on a galactic scale whether Touma wanted to or not. Kyomu's entire presence in the sword's creation is to absorb excess power to prevent this and keep its power in manageable levels.
  • The Power of Creation: The Haouken Xross Saber's element. In its debut, it doesn't so much undo the damage Solomon does as it lets Touma recreate everything to how he believes it should be.
  • The Power of Friendship: For King Of Arthur to reveal its true power, Saber needs to trust his friends, and to gain the power of Elemental Dragon, he had to talk and convince the lonely kid inside Primitive Dragon that he wasn't alone, and that he will be his friend.
    • The Xross Saber is an example of this too, though from the Seikens point of view. Rekka asks the other blades for their power to give to both itself and its chosen wielder and each one does, signifying how they view Saber as well.
  • Power Parasite: Primitive Dragon can steal the Wonder Ride Books of other Riders and channel their energies, as indicated by the name of the book appearing on its shoulder-armor.
  • Red Is Heroic: His suit is half-red/half-black.
  • Reverse Grip: Wields Rekka in this manner in Primitive Dragon form.
  • Sequel: Elemental Dragon was created as one to the Forbidden Book/Primitive Dragon, which is why the two are used in conjunction with each other. While Primitive Dragon's story ends with the titular dragon lost and alone forever, Elemental Dragon continues the story, allowing him to find companionship from the elements that surround him and granting him a Happily Ever After ending.
  • Set Bonus: The second of the three Swordriver Riders to achieve his Wonder Combo, his combo form is named Crimson Dragon. Along with Brave Dragon's flames, and Storm Eagle's flight and wind powers, Saiyuu Journey provides him with Sun Wukong's Telescoping Staff.
  • Shoulders of Doom: Saber has a singular shoulder pad in the form of a dragon's head by default. His Wonder Rider Forms give him various shoulder armors to fit onto his left side and give him a completed look.
  • Super-Empowering:
    • Using Featuring Saber, he can allow Kento and Rintaro to fight through him using empowered projections remotely. Even without it, the Xross Saber can create duplicates of the other Rider's swords to allow them to Dual Wield
    • Wonder Almighty can also do this, not only empowering Saber himself, but powering up Espada and Blades at the same time.
  • Super Mode: In a first for the entire franchise, Saber gets a final form that is capable of changing forms, even using previous forms of Saber's. Each has its own designation and powers.
    • Xross Saber: The default using Brave Dragon as the Wonder Ride Book for the form. Primarily uses the various abilities of the Haouken to battle.
    • Crimson Saber: Formed using the three Wonder Ride Books of Flame: Brave Dragon, Storm Eagle, and Saiyuu Journey. Adds the full power of the three Volumes of Flame to the power of the Xross Saber.
    • Featuring Saber: Formed by uniting Saber's Brave Dragon, Blades's Lion Senki, and Espada's Lamp do Alangina. Both Kento and Rintaro can fight through Saber, utilizing their respective Wonder Ride Books abilities to aid Touma in battle.
  • Technician vs. Performer: Saber is the Performer to Sword of Logos' Technician. Saber's lack of finesse and experience with combat leads to him using unconventional tactics to get the job done, which has the high risk of backfiring on him if he rushes into it. The swordsman of Swords of Logos clearly have far more knowledge and experience with the Wonder Ride Books and Seikens that Saber sorely lacks, getting the job done in a conventional, but effective manner.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: Attempting to steal Jaou Dragon the same way it took Rintaro's Books causes Primitive to have an averse reaction and overload itself.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Played with in that Saber is very skilled at drawing out the powers of WonderRide Books, not only using more of them than any other Rider but using them more creatively than anyone else. However, he's the only Rider who didn't begin the show already a trained swordsman, and his talent with the Ride Books means he doesn't really bother to improve his swordplay for the first half of the series. Eventually he averts this and begins applying his observational skills to learn the sword techniques of the other Riders.
    • Primitive Dragon dials this up even further, as its movements are incredibly sloppy and inefficient, but its power so outclasses everything else up to that point that the loss of skill is irrelevant.
