    Protagonist and Allies

Karael

The protagonist of the game/story.

Tropes:

  • Fallen Angel: Sort of. She was banished to Heresy due to not believing that Demons are irredeemably corrupt but, in terms of setting definitions, has not actually 'Fallen'.
  • The Pollyanna: Keeps up an optimistic and moral attitude at all times. She occasionally suffers periods where this fails her, but she recovers quickly.
  • Samaritan Syndrome: As an Angel who fell due to being too compassionate, this is a given.

The Pit Fiend/Enoch/Malach'asah

One of the first demons Karael encounters in Hell, who tries to devour her for power. This sets off a chain of events, leading him to become what is essentially Karael's adoptive son.

Tropes:

  • Ascended Demon: Thanks to Karael's influence, has become smarter, kinder and more patient. His corruption levels have been dropping, as well.
  • Dumb Muscle: Even for Pit Fiend standards. He grows out of it.

Lucifel

A (sorta) Angel, who once served under Uriel but was later banished to Hell. Due to being given now destroyed pages from a journal that described techniques to balance Corruption and Purity, she is now a unique existence, neither a true Angel, nor a Fallen Angel.

Tropes:

  • Fallen Angel: Kicked out of Heaven for refusing to continue to take part in Black Operations. Despite this she, like Karael, hasn't technically Fallen.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: Purity and Corruption, mixed in a single being.

    Enemies

Nezitor

A Pit Fiend and Baron of Limbo. Is described as the defacto ruler of Limbo.

    Lords of Hell

Avarice the Rapacious, Lord of Greed

Large, fairly intimidating and prone to speaking with a loud voice. Seems to like Karael. That's probably not a good thing.

Tropes:

  • Affably Evil: Despite enjoying a large and intimidating appearance he acts fairly politely in private. To the point of ordering one of his minions to muss the main character's hair when she did something he thought was cute.
  • Big Fancy House: Has a solar system contained under the floor of his entry hall. The planets contained therein are all comprised of a single type of gemstone.

Kassian, Lord of Heresy

A small, dapper fellow who is supposedly widely regarded as being absent-minded and horribly dangerous.

Tropes:

  • Affably Evil: Very polite and friendly, for a Lord of Hell.

Asmodeus, Lord of Treachery

Mentioned off-hand as being one of the longest-running Lords of Treachery to date. Has yet to be seen in person.

Tropes:

  • Hobbes Was Right: Inverted. After a long string of failed tyrants and absolute rulers, Asmodeus succeeds in keeping his position by introducing democracy.
  • Vetinari Job Security: Appears to have this. The system he put in place allows minor groups to potentially accumulate great power by banding together; nobody else who wants the job can be trusted to maintain the system due to inevitable nepotism.

    Celestial Paragons

Gabriel

The Messenger. Karael was raised and taught in her Sphere. Reputedly very kind.

Uriel

The Pious. Had a major hand in the ejection of Karael from Heaven. Not the best boss.

Michael

The Warrior, and the right hand of God. Apparently bears a resemblance to Samuel L. Jackson.

Raphael

The Merciful. Said by Karael to be very sweet, and quite upset at her banishment.

    Living Humans

Kendra

A young crippled girl from Japan with ludicrously high intellect. Currently being taught magical theory by Karael

Tropes:

  • Deal with the Devil: Made a number of these with demons sent to kill and/or tempt her into selling her soul. The standard result was the horrific demise of the demon making the pact. Currently has some unexplained arrangement with Asmodeus that has resulted in her receiving magical tuition.
  • Genius Cripple: Subverted in that, prior to the car accident that killed her parents, she was an award-winning gymnast. She was still just as smart before becoming crippled, but simply chose to derive enjoyment in life from other pursuits.
  • Insufferable Genius: Has shades of this. Mostly it's just overcompensating for being frequently underestimated, more mentally than physically. When she's treated like a regular person she quickly stops lording her intellect over the main character.
  • Super-Intelligence: Of the super learning and advanced reading varieties.

Faust

A warlock by night and a middle-manager by day. Either has a criminal lack of self-awareness or is secretly very cunning. It may be impossible to tell which.

Tropes:

    Others

Fred

The accountant and right (left?) hand of Lord of Greed. Unfailingly polite, and fond of Karael.
