SLASHDØG

Tobio Ikuse is of the Longinus users of the fallen angel faction. He's revealed to be a distant relative to Akeno through his grandmother who was a Himejima.

  • Absurd Cutting Power: It is noted that due to the specialty of his Longinus, he can slash apart anything including the likes of magic or other abilities. In his Abyss-side Balance Breaker, he can slash apart space-time.
  • Accidental Pervert: He tends to get into these kinds of situations with the other female members of the team. Frequently leads into Not What It Looks Like.
  • Aloof Big Brother: When he was first mentioned, he was said to hate Vali. Turns out, it's only because to Tobio, Vali's more of an Annoying Younger Sibling. Even he's surprised about the rumors of him hating Vali.
  • Always Save the Girl: After hearing from Azazel that Sae could be saved from the effect of the Utsusemi's implanted into the students, Tobio immediately agreed to join the group to save the other students.
  • Animal Motifs: Guess what it is. Also, his Longinus seems to be based on the Chinese legend of Tiangou, meaning "Heavenly Dog" .
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: He is the leader of the Slash/Dog team, as well as its most powerful member.
  • The Bartender: He works a part-time night shift as one at the Black Dog BAR.
  • Bash Brothers: With Kouki.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: At times, he accompanies Azazel as a bodyguard. Though Azazel is more than capable of holding his own against most foes.
  • Canon Immigrant: He is the main protagonist of the prequel novel SLASH/DOG, also created by Ishibumi.
  • Casting a Shadow: His Canis Lykaon (Also known as Dog God of the Black Blade) can attack through shadows, the shadow can only extend up to the wielder's field of vision.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The rosary that his grandmother gave to him which in turn he gave to Sae. It saves her from death.
  • Chick Magnet: Between Sae, Natsume, Lavinia, and Suzaku, Tobio is shown to be very popular among girls.
  • Childhood Friends: With Sae, although it is shown that she wants more.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • After his Balance Breaker was unsealed, he quickly curb-stomped Hanezu Himejima, and finished him off by cutting off his head.
    • He also quickly eliminates an Ultimate-class Grim Reaper during the Grim Reaper attack on the Fafnir Stadium.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: 233 people, some of them being his classmates, went missing while they were going on a cruise trip, including his Childhood Friend. To top it all off, they were all transformed into Utsusemi and they're out to target people who didn't participate in the trip.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: His abilities are darkness based and he wears a black-themed outfit as part of his combat wear, but despite that, he is an unambiguously good guy.
  • Despair Event Horizon: He reached this after it seemed that Sae was killed by his blades.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: His childhood friend, Sae, pierced herself so that she could be free from the Utsusemi. Fortunately, she got better.
  • Expy: Inverted as Issei is actually an expy of Tobio. Both were simple Ordinary High-School Student before being thrust into the supernatural world wherein a short time, they quickly climbed up the power totem pole wielding powerful Longinus Sacred Gears and have multiple girls after them. The only difference is that Issei is a Harem Seeker while Tobio is not.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: He's an Ordinary High-School Student when he first starts off in SLASH/DØG. By the time he appears in High School D×D, Tobio's a powerful Longinus user who can force Vali into Juggernaut Drive.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Due to the unstable nature of his Balance Breaker, there was initially a possibility that Tobio could lose control of himself while using it, thus forcing him to use it as a last resort and only with the assistance of his grandmother's prayer beads, which allowed him a limited amount of control over it for 10 seconds,
  • Hero of Another Story: Slash Dog is the name of Ishibumi's second light novel and more details about his story are found there.
  • House Husband: Due to living on his own, Tobio has shown to be good at cooking and other chores.
  • Irony:
    • He was afraid of dogs as revealed at the beginning of his story and yet his guardian, main weapon, and code name, are related to dogs.
    • He is a descendent of the Himejima clan; who serve the Shinto Gods, but a part of Tobio's Longinus contains Ame-no-Ohabari; the sword that killed Kagutsuchi, the Shinto God of Fire. Characters such as Azazel and Hanezu Himejima have noted the irony of this.
  • Insult Backfire: After he defeats an Ultimate-class Grim Reaper.
    Grim Reaper: You dog…!
    Tobio: That’s right, a dog.
  • The Leader: Azazel appoints him as the leader of the Slash/Dog team.

  • Stealth Expert: Tobio has shown to be very capable of hiding his presence as he is often tasked with investigating things behind the scenes.
  • Storm of Blades: Tobio can use his Sacred Gear to create a large number of shadow blades to attack his enemies. He can even use it to have the shadows of his enemies manifest the blades for a sneak attack.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Canis Lykaon contains the spirit of Lycaon; the father of werewolves, who is shown to be able to communicate with Tobio and urging him to give in to the urge to kill.
  • Supreme Chef: He is stated to be an expert cook, with him being capable of making a variety of dishes including Italian food for Lavinia. After he began living with the other members of the Slash/Dog team, he took over the cooking duties, much to Natsume's delight.
  • Took a Level in Badass: From an Ordinary High-School Student into a guy who can force Vali to use Juggernaut Drive.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: Due to him being a descendant of the Himejima clan, he is noted to resemble the previous head of the Himejima clan.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: With Sae, as he seeks to protect her and the two are adjusting to their new lives in the supernatural world, with it being clear that Sae still harbors feelings for him.
  • Unwanted Harem: Played with. As of the current volume of his home series, he has at least five girls wanting to be with him with the poor dude being aware of it, yet he doesn't want it, at least at first. He really does love Sae, but Lavinia's wish of having a more playful relationship with him, coupled with Natsume's determination to accompany him and Suzaku's insistence to marry him muddies his stance further. Time will tell if this stuck by DxD.

And in order to overcome and seek revenge against the Five Great Families, they decided to use a source of power, which differs from their clans, the Four Fiends who brought ill fortune and later sealed in sacred gears. This soon led to formulating the Four Fiends Project with the Independent-Avatar Sacred Gears as their base. To that end, the group targeted Ryoukou High School's second-year students with the required Sacred Gears but all of them were absent during that trip forcing the group to change their original plans and instead used the kidnapped students by implanting Utsusemi into the students and use them to hunt the actual possessors of the Four Fiends.
