Main Characters

    Fangbone

Voiced by: Taylor Abrahamse

The eponymous hero. A nine-year-old barbarian of the Mighty Lizard Clan who was sent from Skullbania to Earth with Venomous Drool's Toe of Evil to keep it safe from him. Fearless and determined, his dedication to protecting the Toe is matched only by his strength and prowess in battle - even if his unfamiliarity with Earth tends to cause trouble.

  • Action Hero: As a barbarian, Fangbone's approach to life mainly involves crushing his enemies, driving them before him, and hearing their death screams.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change:
    • In the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books, Fangbone was treated as little more than a servant by the adult barbarians rather than a trained warrior in his own right. Also, whereas the show indicates that his title of Toe-Keeper makes him extremely important to the Mighty Lizard Clan, he was only entrusted with the Toe and sent to Earth in the books because Axebear couldn't afford to send away any of his warriors and decided Drool wouldn't believe that a child had been entrusted with his Toe of Evil.
    • The story of how he met Bill is also much different than in the show, with the events of "The Forging of Friendship" being replaced with Fangbone simply deciding to go to the school (or "castle", as he mistakes it for) to blend in with the other kids and encountering Bill as a result.
  • Badass Cape: Has a small red cape.
  • Barbarian Hero: The nine-year-old version of such.
  • Bash Brothers: With Bill, whom he call his "battle brother".
  • Because Destiny Says So: Like all barbarians, he's a firm believer in this. He believes that if it his fate to be killed in battle, then he will accept it.
  • Being Good Sucks: The enormous responsibility that protecting the Toe has for Fangbone puts a lot of pressure on him. Not only does he find himself alone in a world unfamiliar to him, but he generally has difficulty trusting others due to them being potential takers of the Toe or unworthy of being trusted to protect it.
  • Blood Knight: As a member of a Proud Warrior Race, he lives for the glory of battle and does not fear death at the hands of a worthy opponent.
  • Book Dumb: He doesn't do terribly well in school and is often naïve to the customs of Earth, but is nonetheless fairly cunning in battle, knows a great deal about his people's culture and history, and is overall considered intelligent from the barbarians' point of view.
  • Brains and Brawn: The brawn to Bill's brains.
  • Character Development: Over the course of the series, Fangbone slowly becomes more accustomed to life on Earth and learns lessons from Earth that help him both improve his skills as a Skullbanian warrior and become more capable in situations that don't require him to draw his sword out.
  • Combat, Diplomacy, Stealth: His barbarian might and fierce attitude represents Combat to Bill's Diplomacy and Cid's Stealth.
  • The Comically Serious: He possesses a generally serious demeanor that humorously contrasts with how many of the things he says can sound very silly due to his unusual speech patterns.
  • Determinator: He will let nothing stand in the way of protecting the Toe from the forces of Venomous Drool, sometimes to the point of pushing away those with good intentions.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: His fearlessness and battle prowess makes him the Fighter to Bill's Mage and Cid's Thief.
  • Fish out of Water: A lot of humour is derived from Fangbone's unfamiliarity with how things work on Earth and the resulting cultural clash with Skullbania's often violent customs.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: His friendship with Bill is as vital to him as protecting the Toe of Venomous Drool.
  • Horns of Barbarism: His helmet has three tiny horns.
  • It Sucks to Be the Chosen One: His duties as Toe-Keeper put him through a lot, from constant paranoia that anyone or anything could be a servant of Drool seeking to take the Toe when he least expects it to being forced to live in a completely unfamiliar world where he doesn't know what to expect or who to trust.
  • Kid Hero: He's only nine years old, but he's dedicated himself to protecting both Earth and Skullbania from Venomous Drool.
  • Loincloth: His default outfit.
  • MacGuffin Guardian: As the bearer of the title of Toe-keeper, it is his duty to keep the last and most powerful piece of Venomous Drool's body safe from Drool and his minions.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: He is extremely loyal to his chieftain Axebear, to the point where in "The Field Trip of Mayhem", he reluctantly chooses to push aside his usual closeness to Bill to obey Axebear's orders.
  • Oh, My Gods!: He regularly praises his god, Grom.
  • Parental Abandonment: Fangbone's mother and father don't ever physically appear; he mentions that they are away on some kind of quest in "The Twinkle of Stick", but otherwise, the only time we ever see them is in a single flashback in "The Hound of Hounding".
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite only being a nine-year-old kid, he's incredibly strong, able to smash rocks with his head without flinching and overpower monsters several times his size.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: His blunt warrior attitude and love of battle makes him the Manly Man to the more rational and socially adept Bill's Sensitive Guy.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Like many Skullbanians, his speaking mannerisms tend to be a bit on the flowery side to reflect his background from a pseudo-European medieval fantasy setting.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Can communicate with wolves (according to him, Wolf is one of Skullbanian's official languages).
  • Speech Impediment: He speaks with a lisp, and his lisp is much thicker and lateral in the episode "The Cavity of Terror".
  • The Storyteller: Often recounts barbarian legends and historical events — often involving the legendary hero Stoneback the Solid — to make a point to Bill and his friends.
  • Strange-Syntax Speaker: He has a tendency to do this. The most frequent being how he tends to say "X's Y" as "Y of X" (for example, he call's Bill's mom "Mom of Bill").
  • Super-Strength: Like all Skullbanian barbarians, he's ridiculously strong.
  • Talks Like a Simile: He tends to do this, although most of his comparisons make more sense to Skullbanians than to Earthlings.
  • True Companions: His friendship with Bill is a fundamental part of the series, and their loyalty to each other is highlighted in numerous episodes.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: By default, he doesn't wear a shirt.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Prone to this.
    • In "The Warwagon of Trust", he experiences having fun for the first time.
    • In "The Hound of Hounding", he experiences sadness for the first time, because he lost his first sword that he made with his parents, which is the only thing he has of them, since they are Heroes of Another Story.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: In "The Cavity of Terror", it's revealed that he is afraid of dentists.

    Billiam "Bill" Goodwin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bill_goodwin.png

Voiced by: Colin Doyle

Fangbone's "battle brother". An ordinary nine-year-old kid who goes to Eastwood Elementary School and helps Fangbone battle the monsters, evil beings, and weird magical forces of Skullbania. While mostly just a good-natured goofball at heart, he helps Fangbone adjust to life on Earth while also serving as the brains to Fangbone's brawn.

  • Adaptation Deviation: Something never stated or hinted at in the show at any point but mentioned in the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books was that Bill had ADHD, although it's not so much the show removed his disorder as they simply never allude to it in any way.
  • Ascended Fanboy: He's a huge fan of barbarian-themed media like the Musculor movies, and now spends his time helping a real barbarian fight fantasy monsters and villains.
  • Author Avatar: Many aspects of his character are drawn from Michael Rex himself when he was a kid.
  • Badass Normal: He may just be an ordinary human child, but his cleverness and agility make him just as potent as Fangbone's barbarian might against Venomous Drool's monsters.
  • Bash Brothers: With Fangbone, who calls him his "battle brother".
  • Being Good Sucks: Not to the extent of Fangbone, but more than once, the series has highlighted how he is more than a little stressed out by the fact that a single mistake from his part could lead to Venomous Drool regaining the Toe and conquering both Earth and Skullbania.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Bill's just an average approachable and kinda dorky kid most of the time, but when the Toe of Evil is at risk of being taken or Drool targets someone close to him for his schemes, he's not one to be trifled with.
  • Brains and Brawn: The brains to Fangbone's brawn.
  • Character Development: Bill learns a lot from Fangbone and Skullbania over the course of the series, losing a lot of his initial insecurities and awkwardness to become every bit as fearless as the barbarians.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Often put in this role with Fangbone when the latter's overly serious demeanor or unfamiliarity with Earth leads to trouble.
  • Combat, Diplomacy, Stealth: His strong strategizing and socializing abilities means he represents Diplomacy to Fangbone's Combat and Cid's Stealth.
  • Disappeared Dad: His father is never seen or mentioned at any point in the series, and his family seems to consist solely of him and his mother.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: While he only became a wizard for one episode, he still represents the Mage to Fangbone's Fighter and Cid's Thief due to his intelligence and his relatively frailty as a human among Skullbanians.
  • Guile Hero: Whereas Fangbone and the other barbarians like to solve their conflicts using strength and fierceness, Bill relies mainly on his wits and ability to talk things out to deal with problems, whether it be convincing an enemy to change their ways or coming up with a plan that will let Fangbone slay Drool's Monster of the Week.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He and Fangbone are battle brothers loyal to the end.
  • Informed Attribute: The theme song describes Bill as a Cloud Cuckoolander whose "weapon is he's weird", but in the show proper, he is the Cloudcuckoolander's Minder to the Fish out of Water Fangbone.
    • Then again, since the theme song is Skullbanian-themed, it could be referring to Bill, as seen from an average barbarian perspective, his Earth-based knowledge and all.
  • Kid Hero: Despite just being your average nine-year-old kid, he's more than capable of helping Fangbone fight the various monsters Venomous Drool sends after them.
  • Muggle Best Friend: He's this to Fangbone, helping him grow accustomed to life on Earth.
  • Nice Guy: He's a well-meaning, fun-loving kid who does his best to do good and always tries to reach out to others.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: He was initially chosen to wield the sword Glimmerslash in "The Cheeks of Darkness".
  • Only Sane Man: He's pretty much the only normal kid in Ms. Gillian's classroom.
  • Redheaded Hero: He has red hair and assists Fangbone in protecting the Toe from Venomous Drool's monsters.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: His more levelheaded demeanor and strong people skills make him the Sensitive Guy to the more aggressive and straightforward Fangbone's Manly Man.
  • The Social Expert: In contrast to Fangbone's "sword first, questions second" approach to strangers, Bill is more likely to try and engage with others by trying to talk to them and understand where they're coming from - a trait that has helped him and Fangbone defeat a few of their opponents with minimal bloodshed.
  • The Straight Man: Often placed in this comedic role to Fangbone.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: He gains one called "Will" in "The Breaker of Oaths" as a result of breaking an agreement to Venomous Drool to give him back the Toe in exchange for rescuing Fangbone from the Nightlands.
  • Weak, but Skilled: As a human, Bill is very frail compared to the Skullbanians and lacks much in the way of physical power or weapon prowess. However, he makes up for it simply by being very clever and good with people.
  • Youthful Freckles: Possesses these.

    Venomous Drool
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/venomous_drool_new.png

Voiced by: Juan Chioran

The Big Bad of the series. An evil wizard who seeks to conquer all of Skullbania. Fortunately, his power is vastly diminished due to his missing Toe, which is under the protection of Fangbone. He seeks to take back his Big Toe of Evil from Fangbone and Bill, sending out various monster minions and using diabolical spells to do the trick.

  • Adaptational Explanation: While his whole backstory of being a Sealed Evil in a Six Pack was already in the original books, it was the show that invented the reason as to why his Toe is his most important body part by showing that he dipped it a pool of liquid evil to gain ultimate power, thus concentrating most of his magical power in a single digit.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: He was abandoned as an infant by the Mighty Lizard Clan for being born with green skin.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: He's green for some inexplicable reason.
  • Ancient Evil: Over a thousand years ago, he had ruled over all of Skullbania until the barbarian clans united and defeated him before splitting his body into many pieces.
  • Ascended Extra: In the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books, Venomous Drool was The Ghost. In the show proper, he plays a much a much larger role in Fangbone and Bill's everyday adventures, with physical on-screen appearances and direct interaction with the main characters.
Michael Rex: While drawing the Fangbone! books, I never really got to explore the character of Venomous Drool. Yes, it is his Big Toe of Evil that drives the narrative, but we never get to spend much time with him in the stories. For the Fangbone! pilot, Drool has become a much more important character. Right now, he's undergoing a very cool re-design. In the show, we will also be seeing his castle in Skullbania.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: As seen in a few flashbacks and the finale, he becomes enormous when at full power (although he seems to be able to change his size).
  • Bad Boss: Monsters that come back to him battered and bruised from a battle with Fangbone and Bill without the Toe are usually punished... painfully.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Although he often displays a whiney and childish attitude that is Played for Laughs, Venomous Drool excels at reminding Fangbone and Bill why he is considered so dangerous even without his Toe in the first place, such as facing them directly in "The Field Trip of Mayhem", his Near-Villain Victory in "The Goat of More Goat", forging an oath-vow with Bill in "The Breaker of Oaths", and using the World Chain to finally get his Toe back in "The End of the Beginning".
  • Big Bad: His quest to retrieve his magic Toe drives much of the conflict.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: He takes great pride in his villainous nature, even once gleefully referring to himself as the only being in Skullbania evil enough to dare unleash the Mo-Ar Go-At curse.
  • De-power: Happens to him in the series finale. When Bill and Fangbone severe the Toe of Evil from his foot using Glimmerslash, Drool loses all of his magic and is easily subdued by the Skullbanians, who take him home in chains.
  • Enfant Terrible: As shown in "The Drool of Young", he was a spellcasting jerkass even as a kid.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even as an evil wizard, he still follows certain rules that are taken very seriously in Skullbania, such as not breaking a Skullbanian oath-vow or not using shortcuts to complete his wizardry manualnote . He does have his reasons however, given the dangerous magical consequences of breaking those rules.
  • Evil Overlord: A powerful and malevolent wizard who seeks to conquer the world once more and commands legions of monsters from a sinister-looking palace.
  • Evil Sorcerer: And losing his Toe hasn't completely nullified his magical abilities for that matter.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: In "The Breaker of Oaths", Bill feels bad for Drool when he learns his backstory and how it was not his fault he was banished from the Mighty Lizard Clan as an infant, but Cid points out that it was Drool's choice to dip his Toe in Morg's Puddle of Concentrated Evil so he could conquer Skullbania.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: In becoming the vilest villain in all of Skullbania, Venomous Drool went from a bratty bookworm who spent his days cooped up in a Skullbanian slug hive studying magic to a wicked sorcerer powerful enough to conquer the world after immersing his Toe in literal pure evil.
  • Greed: His ultimate goal is to obtain as much power as possible, beginning with learning magic while he was a child and culminating in him dipping his Toe into a pool of liquid evil so that he could be powerful enough to conquer all of Skullbania.
  • Green and Mean: He shares the green skin of his orc and troll soldiers, and is known for being a cruel, power-hungry bastard.
  • Jerkass: Even disregarding the fact he's a megalomaniacal evil wizard intent on taking over two worlds, he's still a spiteful, cruel, and hateful person who shows no sympathy for others.
  • Large Ham: Prone to chewing the scenery.
  • Laughably Evil: Despite how much of a danger he poses to the setting, he can be quite a comedic character.
  • Magic Cauldron: He uses one all the time. It functions also as a scrying pool to monitor Bill and Fangbone's activities.
  • Magical Barefooter: While his feet aren’t usually visible, whenever he does show them, he’s shown to go barefoot, giving viewers a glimpse of his missing toe.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: He can sense when something has affected the Toe in some way due to the fact the two are still magically linked to each other.
  • Oh, My Gods!: He often makes exclamations to Grom's Evil Counterpart, Morg.
  • Orcus on His Throne: He spends the vast majority of the series cooped up in his evil palace watching Fangbone from his scrying cauldron and sending monsters after them. Justified by the fact that without his Toe of Evil, he's nowhere near as powerful and thus not as much of a potential threat to Fangbone or Bill. Furthermore, "The End of the Beginning" reveals Drool's powers are linked to Skullbania itself, so he is rendered powerless if he comes to Earth.
Bill: I thought he was just... lazy.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Despite his incredible magical power and great evilness, Drool is prone to acting like a petulant brat, throwing tantrums when his plans fail and childishly gloating whenever he succeeds.
  • Pulling Themselves Together: His body parts seem to have a certain degree of self-autonomy, as he was able to command his servants to put him back together after he was originally split apart and still-separated parts react to the presence of him or his minions. Fangbone and Bill witness this firsthand in "The Field Trip of Mayhem" when Drool is blown to pieces, only for his head to talk back to them.
  • Raised by Wolves: Well in his case, he was raised by Skullbanian giant slugs.
  • Really 700 Years Old: While he doesn't look particularly ancient, he's over a thousand years old (although he spent most of that time split up into numerous pieces).
  • Sealed Evil in a Six Pack: His body was split into numerous piece to be guarded by different barbarian tribes centuries before the events of the series, but his followers managed to collect them and put him back together. The Toe is the last and strongest piece left, which he needs to be completed.
  • Sorcerous Overlord: He's Skullbania's most infamous villain, one of its most powerful magic-users, and had ruled the whole world in ages past, with an army of monsters at his service to help him conquer Skullbania and Earth.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Despite possessing incredible evil magic, Drool's childish personality often makes him comically inept. He would merely be obnoxious rather than dangerous if he had no magic, but because he does have magic, he's a threat to all of Skullbania. Additionally, the power imbued in his Toe by Morg's Puddle of Concentrated Evil makes him a lot more powerful than he would naturally be as a wizard. Appropriately, when he is wholly stripped of his magic in the Grand Finale, he is rendered totally harmless and taken down by the Skullbanians with absolutely no effort.
  • Unwitting Pawn: "The End of the Beginning" reveals that he was this to his own Toe of Evil the entire time, as the Toe itself is revealed to be sapient, having manipulated Drool during the episode in order to be separated from him and thus carry out its own plans.

Inhabitants of Earth

    Natalie Goodwin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mom_of_bill.png

Voiced by: Stacey DePass

Bill's mother. She's an ordinary suburban mom who does her best to take care of her son and support him — even if she is totally unaware of the fact that Bill and his weird new friend Fangbone do battle with the forces of evil every day.

  • Adults Are Useless: She's pretty much oblivious to the situation her son and Fangbone are in, as demonstrated in "The Cavity of Terror".
  • Deadpan Snarker: She has her moments.
  • Death Glare: "This is the look. The look means you do what I say. You cannot resist the look."
  • Eye Twitch: Sometimes, often when Bill and Fangbone cause trouble with their battles.
  • Good Parents: Despite how unaware she is of Bill's everyday adventures, she is a loving and supportive parent towards him.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: At the end of "The Mom of No Return", Twinkle-Stick accidentally erased the truth of Fangbone and the monster attacks from her head.
  • Parental Obliviousness: She's totally unaware of what Bill and Fangbone are up to, and usually dismisses the latter as simply being overimaginative and eccentric.

    Ms. Gillian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ms_gillian.png

Voiced by: Kathleen Laskey

Bill and Fangbone's teacher. She is perpetually exhausted and dissatisfied with her job — although you really cannot blame her when she has to teach what is arguably the most insane classroom in the entire school (and that's ignoring the fact one of her students is a barbarian from another dimension).

  • Adaptation Personality Change: A downplayed example. She was much less world-weary in the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books compared to how she is in the show, but was still a rather frazzled character who found herself baffled by Fangbone's ways.
  • Adults Are Useless: At best, she simply couldn't care less about how Bill and Fangbone are constantly fighting monsters, with the rest of the class helping them.
  • Apathetic Teacher: She's constantly exasperated with her class and her job.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "The Star of Gold" is focused primarily on her.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Often makes sarcastic quips about the wackiness of her students or fellow teachers.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: She tends to have rather enthusiastic reactions to any of the huge and muscular Skullbanian barbarians she encounters when she gets dragged into Bill and Fangbone's adventures.
  • Establishing Character Moment: In her first appearance in "Warbrute of Friendship", she is shown doing attendance in a disinterested manner before groaning at the sight of her students being their usual bizarre selves and then staring longingly at the classroom across the hall and its perfectly normal students, establishing her as being ceaselessly fed up with her job of having to teach a Wacky Homeroom.
  • Going Native: In "The Bill of Magic", after being teleported to the Mesozoic Era, she went all jungle girl on a T-Rex.
  • Only Sane Woman: She and Bill are the only normal people in Eastwood Elementary.
  • Villain-Possessed Bystander: She was briefly possessed by Venomous Drool in "Warbrute of Friendship".

    Class of 3G
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bills_class.jpg
Clockwise starting bottom left: Patty, Selena, Stacy, Dibby, Robert, and Eddie
Voiced by: Stacey DePass (Stacy, Eddie), Denise Oliver (Patty, Selena), Matt Baram (Robert), Shemar Charles (Dibby; "Warbrute of Friendship") Cameron Ansell (Dibby; all other episodes)

The other students of Ms. Gillian's class. They are a very unusual bunch, to say the least. Unlike the adults, they are aware of Fangbone's origins and duties, so they occasionally help him and Bill battle Venomous Drool's minions.

  • Adaptation Deviation: While all six kids were present in the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books (although Patty and Selena had slightly different designs), their eccentric personalities were presented as due to them being in the school's "special" class rather than simply being a Wacky Homeroom.
Ms. Gillian (in the books; upon learning Fangbone is illiterate): "Ok... Ok... You're [Fangbone] in the right class. Welcome to 3G. Everyone here learns at their own speed."
  • All Asians Know Kung Fu: Eddie, he's Asian and is obsessed with ninjas and constantly tries to emulate them (not very well).
  • Asian Airhead: Patty is a wacky and hyperactive Asian girl obsessed with glitter and sparkles.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Most of them to varying degrees. Dibby speaks like a robot all the time; Robert likes taking off his clothes at random times; Patty is obsessed with sparkly things; etc.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Robert has a habit of ripping off his clothes, leaving him in his underwear.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Most of the time, they're just a bunch of weird kids, but whenever they help Fangbone and Bill against Venomous Drool, they truly shine as heroes, notably in "The Mall of Doom".
  • A Day in the Limelight: Dibby gets the spotlight in "The Rowbot of Dibby", where he tries to help Bill and Fangbone by using the Toe's magic to turn himself into a real robot.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Stacy, complete with the monotone voice and apathetic stance towards everything.
  • Five-Token Band: There are six kids in total, with two Asian kids (Eddie and Patty), two black kids (Robert and Selena), and two white kids (Stacy and Dibby). Gender is also equally divided amongst them.
  • Genki Girl: Patty has a cheerful and peppy personality.
  • The Generic Girl: Selena lacks any notable quirks and eccentricities compared to the other five kids, although that's probably due to having the least amount of screentime and dialogue of the group.
  • Heroic Bystander: They would occasionally help Bill and Fangbone in their battles, either as a group or individually.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Dibby reveals this in "The Rowbot of Dibby", as he wants to become a great hero like Bill and Fangbone.
  • Limited Social Circle: They are pretty much the only kids in the show that Bill and Fangbone ever interact with.
  • Mad Libs Catch Phrase: Stacy has a habit of saying "X is lame".
  • Naked People Are Funny: Robert's basic characterization is that he keeps ripping off his clothes for little to no reason.
  • Nerd Glasses: Both Dibby and Robert wear these.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Patty wears a pink shirt with white polka dots and a kitty on the front.
  • Race Lift: Interestingly, all three of the girls have their race changed from the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books. In the books, Stacy was black while Patty and Selena were both white, but in the show, Stacy is white while Patty and Selena become Asian and black respectively.
  • Robo Speak: Dibby talks like a robot and even acts like one.
  • Secret-Keeper: They're the only ones besides Bill who know Fangbone is from another world and of his mission to protect the Toe of Evil from Venomous Drool.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The snarky Stacy is the Tomboy to the energetic Patty's Girly Girl.
  • Unfazed Everyman: Stacy, most of the time. Even Drool's monsters generally yield little reaction from her beyond a comment about them being lame.
  • Wacky Homeroom: They are a pretty eccentric bunch if you haven't gotten it already. Small wonder Ms. Gillian finds them so exhausting to deal with.
  • Youthful Freckles: Dibby possesses these.

    Principal Bruce
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/principal_bruce.png

Voiced by: Matt Baram

The principal of Eastwood Elementary. An absurdly chipper and optimistic man who takes everything bizarre that happens around him (almost always the cause of Fangbone's battles with Venomous Drool's forces) in stride.

  • Adults Are Useless: He's usually either totally oblivious to or extremely happy about all of the crazy stuff caused by Bill and Fangbone's fights with Venomous Drool.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: His extremely positive attitude is prone to making him this.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "The Iron Fist of Bruce" features him more prominently than usual.
  • Drunk with Power: Goes through this in "The Iron Fist of Bruce" when he ends up becoming a tyrant as a result of taking Skullbanian Heritage Day too far.
  • The Pollyanna: To ridiculous levels. His reaction to seeing dozens of goats rampaging around the school cafeteria in "The Goat of More Goat" was to happily exclaim about how exciting it is to see goats in his school.
  • Putting the "Pal" in Principal: He takes this absurd levels, being permanently cheerful and friendly no matter what goes wrong.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In "The Iron Fist of Bruce", due to taking Skullbanian Heritage Day a little too far.
  • You Don't Look Like You: He had a radically different design in the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books, sporting a buzzcut instead of glasses, as well as a completely different head shape and outfit. However, he still retained his goofy personality in the transition from story to screen.

Inhabitants of Skullbania

    Twinkle-Stick
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/twinkle_stick.png

Voiced by: Mike Kiss

The resident wizard and shaman of the Mighty Lizard Clan. He was the one who sent Fangbone to Earth with the Toe of Venomous Drool. Fangbone occasionally contacts him for advice, although he's not always particularly helpful.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: He has a crush on Ms. Gillian.
  • Adaptation Deviation: While there was a wizard in the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books who helps Fangbone get to Earth, Twinkle-Stick is a radically different character in every respect from his appearance to his role in the series. As Michael Rex explained elsewhere, the transformation of the one-off Sorcerer of Ribcage Rock into an eccentric mentor figure for Fangbone and advisor to Axebear was so that Fangbone would be able to interact with Skullbania far more regularly than he did in the books.
  • Adaptation Origin Connection: In the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books, Twinkle-Stick was just a random wizard with no connection to the Mighty Lizard Clan.
  • Ascended Extra: In the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books, Twinkle-Stick only appeared at the beginning of the very first book as an unnamed wizard who Fangbone had to seek out in order to hide the Toe on Earth. In the series, said wizard is not only given a name, but also takes up the role of mentor character and grandfather figure for Fangbone, as well as an adviser for Axebear.
  • Catchphrase: "SHA-ZOOM!", which is the word he uses for every magical enchantment he casts.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: He tends to be a very eccentric character.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Although generally a bit off his rocker, he has shown himself to be a pretty capable magician when push comes to shove, even fighting Venomous Drool himself in "The Field Trip of Mayhem".
  • A Day in the Limelight: "The Twinkle of Stick" is primarily focused on him.
  • Eccentric Mentor: He's more than a little unusual sometimes, but Fangbone puts all his trust in him nonetheless.
  • Mentor Archetype: He's essentially Fangbone and Bill's mentor, giving them advice and explaining stuff they don't know or understand, although he's not always good at his role.
  • Named by the Adaptation: He had no name in the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books, instead only being referred to as the Sorcerer of Ribcage Rock.
  • Nemean Skinning: He wears the pelt of what appears to be a unicorn in this style.
  • Parental Substitute: To Fangbone, due to his biological parents being absent at the moment. This is well demonstrated in "The Twinkle of Stick", where he actually has to pretend to be Fangbone's father for a parent-teacher conference.
  • Wizard Beard: Sports one. In fact, in "The Helmit of Durling", the reduced-intelligence Bill starts to believe that anyone with facial hair is Twinkle-Stick.
  • Wizard Classic: The setting's take on such a character, serving as the main magical ally of Bill and Fangbone and possessing the matching wisdom and eccentricity.

A thief belonging to an organization called the Shadowsteppers, Skullbania's resident Thieves' Guild. Her elusiveness and sneakiness is second to none among the Shadowsteppers, but she tends not to see eye-to-eye with Fangbone or her clanmates when it comes to protecting the Toe.

  • Action Girl: She may not be a barbarian, but her Shadowstepper skills make her every bit as formidable in combat.
  • Ascended Extra: Initially introduced as a minor antagonist in "The Duck of Always" who mainly served to flesh out the setting of Skullbania as more than just Drool and the barbarians, Cid became a much more significant character when the series entered its second half as the writers gave her a more significant role in Fangbone and Bill's adventures, as well as quite a bit of development. By the finale, she pretty much forms a Fighter, Mage, Thief with Fangbone and Bill.
  • Canon Foreigner: Despite her increasingly prominent role in the series, Cid was not in the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books, nor did the books ever indicate the existence of the Shadowsteppers.
  • Character Development: While initially introduced as one of Fangbone's enemies, she slowly becomes a close friend of Fangbone and Bill as she struggles with her relationship with the rest of the Shadowsteppers and learns important lessons from the two of them. By the end of the series, she's transformed Bill and Fangbone's friendship from Bash Brothers to an outright Fighter, Mage, Thief trio.
  • Combat, Diplomacy, Stealth: Her thieving skills and natural agility make her the representative of Stealth to Fangbone's Combat and Bill's Diplomacy.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "The Burg of Lar" and "The Shadow of Bill" focus heavily on her and her development.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: As a Shadowstepper, she's naturally the Thief to Fangbone's Fighter and Bil's Mage.
  • Hero Antagonist: Like Fangbone, she and the other Shadowsteppers want to prevent Venomous Drool from getting the Toe, but she believes that the barbarians have made the wrong choice by leaving it in the protection of two kids. For this reason, she seeks to take the Toe from Bill and Fangbone so the Shadowsteppers can protect it instead.
  • Loveable Rogue: She may be a thief, but she's a tough, spunky girl who opposes the forces of Venomous Drool just as much as Fangbone and Bill do.
  • Odd Name Out: She's the only major Skullbanian character whose name is not a portmanteau of two common words.
  • Stealth Expert: As a Shadowstepper, she's got ninja-like stealth skills that make her almost impossible to catch.
  • Sticky Fingers: She has a habit of stealing anything that isn't glued down even when she has no reason to do so.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: She and Fangbone don't like each other, due to the longstanding enmity between barbarians and Shadowsteppers, and they often butt heads when working together against Venomous Drool.
  • Troll: Because of the longstanding enmity, she enjoys messing with Fangbone.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Gal: She feels her father doesn't trust her anymore, due to her failure to retrieve the Toe and for befriending Fangbone and Bill. And Drool retrieving his Toe in the finale didn't do her any favors.
  • Wild Card: She's every bit as likely to try and steal the Toe from Bill and Fangbone as she is to try and help them protect it from Venomous Drool. Even amongst the Shadowsteppers, she's considered a bit of a rogue.

The huge and fearsome leader of the Mighty Lizard Clan. His strength and combat skill are unmatched amongst his people, and Fangbone has nothing but unyielding respect for him and his leadership.

Voiced by: Mike Kiss

The leader of the Shadowsteppers and the father of Cid, who rarely ever gets along with Skullbania's barbarians.

  • Abusive Parent: To Cid, emotionally. Because he had such expectations from her, only to fail in retrieving the Toe and for befriending Fangbone and Bill. This led him to banish her from Minkwater, which wasn't the first time either. Though it takes her confront him for his help and reminding him they're family in the finale to get him to trust her again.
  • The Comically Serious: Due to being the leader of the council, who ask Cid to bring some donuts or hot dogs on her way back from Earth.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Although how he acquired it is unexplained.
  • Hero Antagonist: He and the Shadowsteppers also oppose Venomous Drool and want to prevent him from acquiring the Toe, but he clashes with Fangbone and the other barbarians because he believes leaving the Toe in the hands of children was the wrong move and that the Shadowsteppers can do a better job protecting it.
  • King of Thieves: As the leader of the Shadowsteppers.
  • Mythology Gag: He's named after Weasel-Eye the Slippery, an ancestor of Fangbone mentioned in passing in the original Fangbone! Third Grade Barbarian books.
  • Not So Above It All: He does enjoy Earth's donuts, but refuses to let anyone see him eat some under light.

Voiced by: Linda Ballantyne

The former keeper of Venomous Drool’s left elbow, who was asked by Bill and Twinkle-Stick to give Fangbone some pointers on guarding the Toe. However, she has some sinister motives of her own.

  • Action Girl: A huge and formidable warrior-woman who once dedicated her life to protecting Drool's elbow from his minions.
  • The Corrupter: Constantly tempts Fangbone into using the Toe's power for himself.
  • Drunk with Power: Constant use of Drool’s elbow made Wargrunt go completely power-mad, enough that her clan confiscated it from her and exiled her.
  • Evil Makes You Monstrous: Wargrunt's flashback shows her having taken on a demonic appearance after prolonged use of Drool’s elbow.
  • Fallen Hero: Wargrunt used to be a noble protector of Drool's elbow, until the constant fighting and pressure from her job took enough of a toll on her sanity that she started using the elbow's magic to make her job easier, only to get so quickly and extremely drunk on its power that her clan took it from her and exiled her. Now Wargrunt seeks the power of the Toe while corrupting Fangbone into becoming just like her.
  • Shadow Archetype: She's what Fangbone could have been like if he had nobody to help him with protecting the Toe and succumbed to the pressures of the job.

Voiced by: Julie Lemieux

A legendary barbarian warrior who travels Skullbania on a constant search for powerful opponents to challenge herself against. Hearing stories of Fangbone's victories, she comes to Earth to seek him out.

  • Action Girl: Like all female Skullbanians, Hammerscab is a formidable fighter.
  • BFS: Her weapon of choice is a sword bigger than she is.
  • Blood Knight: Deconstructed. Hammerscab was born into the Crushing Fists Clan, a barbarian clan known for their mighty warriors, with her being a fighting prodigy even amongst them. Her desire for fighting grew so great that after running out of enemies, she started fighting members of her own clan, which ended up driving them all away and leaving Hammerscab all alone, endlessly seeking out her next fight.
  • Braids of Barbarism: She wears her hair in a braided ponytail so long she can use it as a whip in battle.
  • Competition Freak: She's just as obsessed with winning as she is with fighting, to the point that she's completely baffled when Fangbone chooses to forfeit their second battle to protect the Toe from Drool's latest monster.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: She's only a year older than Fangbone, but is the strongest barbarian in all of Skullbania.
  • One-Man Army: There's reason why she's titled as belonging to a one-person clan.
  • Samus Is a Girl: A lot of people are surprised to learn that the legendary Hammerscab is actually a young girl about Fangbone’s age.
  • Shadow Archetype: She's what Fangbone could have been like if he prioritized fighting and glory over everything else in his life, including protecting the Toe.
  • Tribal Face Paint: She wears red streaks of face paint on her cheeks.
  • World's Strongest Man: She's the strongest barbarian in Skullbania.
