  • Long-Dead Badass: As he happens to be Desmond's earliest known ancestor, this is a given.

  • Professional Killer: Like most Assassins, specializing in the bow like his master, though he tended to take a more direct approach regarding taking out targets.

  • One Degree of Separation: Was friends with the Italian Assassins Dante Alighieri, Marco Polo, and Ezio's great-great grandfather Domenico Auditore.
  • Only Sane Man: Unlike his brothers he felt that the destruction of the Templars' public image would push them into using more clandestine methods and strengthen them in the end, which ended up proving very true over the centuries.
  • The Purge: He and his Assassins disguised as Flemish mercenaries helped the King in finishing off Molay's Templars, though he wasn't exactly crazy about doing it due to the beliefs mentioned above. Following that, he spent a decade hunting Templar remnants throughout Europe.

A British Master Assassin active during the time of the Salem Witch Trials in 1692 who specialized in the tracking of Pieces of Eden, and an ancestor of Charlotte de la Cruz.

  • Abusive Parents: Grew up as a farmer with a harsh father who taught him to respect the rules above all.
  • Color Motif: Most Assassins tend to go for white (or at the least, grey) in their outfits. That Thomas's uniform is more toward black is the first hint he's kind of a bastard.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Tom is one of the most ruthless and least compassionate Assassins known so far. He comes very close to violating the Creed several times, threatening innocents for information even though he actually has no intention of hurting them (too badly). Galina even notes that his is a serious problem, since Charlotte will have a hard time synchronizing with Tom due to their polar-opposite personalities.
  • Hot Blooded Sideburns: Has some very prominent sideburns, and is most definitely a temperamental jerk (the art is inconsistent over whether they connect with the beginnings of a mustache or not).
  • In the Hood: His outfit has a hidden Assassin hood.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite being kind of an asshole for the most part and nearly violating the Creed more than once, he does have some standards. For instance, despite his threats he draws the line at actually harming innocents.
  • Le Parkour: Is an accomplished freerunner.
  • Living Legend: He's known among Assassins and Templars alike for his skill at finding Pieces of Eden.
  • Pet the Dog: Deciding to take care of David after his mother Jennifer dies.
  • The Unfettered: While not completely without standards, for Stoddard the mission is considered paramount above all else, and as a result he has no problem letting an innocent person get hanged if it kept the mission from getting compromised. He's also far more willing to threaten innocents even if he won't actually harm them.

    Jennifer Querry

Jennifer Querry

Appears in: Assassin's Creed (comic series)

A novice Assassin partnered with Thomas Stoddard during the Salem Witch trials, the mother of David, and an ancestor of Joseph. Prior to joining the Brotherhood, she worked as a nurse.

  • Action Mom: Is David's mother and a capable Assassin.
  • Character Death: Dies from getting shot twice by William Stoughton.
  • In the Hood: Wore the prototypical Assassin hood.
  • Le Parkour: Was good enough at freerunning to keep up with the far more experienced Stoddard.
  • New Meat: Was on her first mission during the events of the comic, leaving Stoddard displeased that he has a novice Assassin for a partner on such an important mission.

    John de la Tour

John de la Tour

One of the first Assassins to set foot in the colonies of the New World, a member of the French Assassin Council, and the Founder of the Colonial Brotherhood. He died sacrificing himself during the siege of Louisburg in 1745.

  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Subverted, he was a good guy, if rather arrogant.
  • The Charmer: Achilles describes this as his best quality, the ability to hide in plain sight.
  • Our Founder: Regarded fondly by Achilles as this, though at the time they met Achilles didn't fully trust him.
  • The Mentor: To Achilles.
  • Posthumous Character: Dies in 1745 around 20 years before III.
  • Retcon: Achilles states pretty clearly in III that he's the first Assassin to come to the colonies. The presence of Jennifer Querry and Tom Stoddard during the earlier Salem Witch Trials suggests otherwise.
  • You Are in Command Now: He made Achilles Mentor of the Colonial Assassins before he died.

    Francois Mackandal

Francois Mackandal

Mentioned in: Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, Assassin's Creed Rogue, Assassin's Creed: Initiates

The Mentor of the Assassin Brotherhood in Saint-Domingue who took on Agate and Baptiste as apprentices. He was publicly executed in 1758 at the hands of the Company Man. He is never seen in person, simply referred to by various characters in the American Saga.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Was missing an arm.
  • The Ghost: Despite his influence in the backstory of Liberation and Rogue, he's never actually seen onscreen.
  • Hate Sink: If you need an example of a bad Assassin, look no further. Between his fanatical and literal view of the Creed and his Lack of Empathy towards anyone who doesn't follow his views, it's easy to see why his Brotherhood fell and why Eseosa and later Assassins think of him as a disgrace. Berg, who generally views the Assassins as Worthy Opponents, also sees him as utter scum.
  • I'll Kill You!: Tells Anto in a letter that he'll kill him if the other Assassin came anywhere near Saint-Domingue.
  • Jerkass: A massive one to anyone who doesn't agree with his views, even fellow Assassins. It's a trait that would pass onto Agate in Liberations.
  • No Sympathy: Shows none for anyone who doesn't share his views, whether they be fellow Assassins, or Templars.
  • Posthumous Character: He's long dead by the time of Liberation.

    Eseosa

Grandson of Adéwalé, Eseosa led the Assassin Brotherhood in Haiti during the Haitian Revolution during the late 18th century. He wrote a Codex dedicated to his grandfather detailing his struggle to rebuild the Brotherhood and guide the Haitian Revolution from behind the scenes.

  • Broken Pedestal: Towards the French Assassins and the French Revolution, since Napoleon plans to renege on abolitionism and reinstitute slavery in the colonies (which he did do in other places, but not Haiti), and the French Assassins end up doing nothing to stop it.
  • Full-Circle Revolution: Feels this way about the Haitian Revolution and the Assassin cause. Despite winning independence and ending slavery, the new Haiti still suffers from class divisions, Toussaint L'Ouverture is killed in France and Jean-Jacques Dessalines transforms the nation into a tyranny. In the end, Eseosa visits Connor at the Davenport Homestead in 1804 at his invitation, vowing to return to get revenge on Dessalinesnote .
  • Heroic Lineage: The descendant of Adewale who follows in the footsteps of his grandfather.
  • History Repeats: The grandson of Adéwalé in the end meets and joins with the grandson of Adewale's friend Edward Kenway.
  • The Leader: He rebuilt the Assassin Brotherhood in Haiti after François Mackandal left it in shambles and disgraced.
  • Like Father, Like Son: He is an Assassin from the Caribbean who leads a slave rebellion in Haiti just like Adewale.
  • The Mentor: He recruited and trained several leaders of the Haitian Revolution, including Toussaint Louverture.
  • Only One Name: Has no known surname.

  • Frontline General: Brunet is a foreign military advisor for the Tokugawa forces. He also just so happens to be an Assassin.
  • Historical Domain Character: Jules Brunet was a military advisor to the Tokugawa shogunate and the short-lived Ezo Republic. • Action Girl: Her father trained her in the art of combat alongside her brother. Even before she enlisted in the army and became an Assassin, Atsuko killed three bandits who tried to rape her.
  • Big Sister Instinct: The reason why she joined the Tokugawa army was to watch over Ibuka, a skilled swordsman that suffered a pathological fear of combat.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Despite being presented as an original character, there was in fact a female samurai scion contemporary of Takeko who engaged in Sweet Polly Oliver and fought for Aizu: Yamamoto Yaeko.
  • Samurai Shinobi: Atsuko is from an Edo-era samurai family and naturally knows a lot about their traditions from the code of bushido to their sacred weapons. However, she was trained by Takeko to become an Assassin after she found out about her true identity and gradually embraces her new role as a shinobi (ninja). After she is rescued by her brother after killing the Templar swordsman William Lloyd, at the cost of his own life, Atsuko accepts Matsuo's offer to join the Japanese Brotherhood.
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: Atsuko poses as a male ashigaru soldier in the shogunate forces to escape the societal expectations that affected her and other Japanese women.

    Ignacio Cardona

Ignacio Cardona

Appears in: Assassin's Creed: Uprising

A Spanish Assassin operating during Franco's rise to power. Another ancestor of Charlotte de la Cruz.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Gets a very dry dig in on Bolden, and the Templars, at the sight of a ruined Spanish village.
Bolden: My God... what happened here?
    Cardona: Augury.
    Bolden: Come again?
Cardona: We Spaniards are Europe's bellweathers, are we not? Like the pagan seers of old, you read our entrails to try and glimpse your own "glorious futures".
  • Demonic Possession: The Instruments wanted him as a vessel for Juno. Only the fact he was born a guy saved him.
  • Enemy Mine: With Albert Bolden, the former Black Cross of the Templar Order, when his cell is taken over by an Instrument agent.
  • Not Helping Your Case: His attempts to get through to the saner members of his cell and prove he hasn't turned aren't helped when Bolden, an unrepentant Templar, is fighting them.
