Find a Trope:
openAn animal wanting to be another animal
Is there a trope where an animal acts like, wants to be, or thinks they are another animal? Like a kitten who acts like a dog, etc.?
openIgnored Superpowers
The trope Mundane Utility is where characters use superpowers to do ordinary things. Is there a trope for where they have superpowers but don't use them at all?
openOut of the Frying Pan subtrope?
Is there a specific trope name for the situation where the hero or heroes suddenly find themselves surrounded by enemies but no one notices or recognizes them? Like Indiana Jones coming face-to-face with Hitler in Last Crusade, only to receive his autograph? I feel like there's a slight distinction from the overall trope where our protagonists could go from a bad situation to a worse one but the danger remains active and immediate...
openSongs about mental illnesses Music
Is there already a trope for songs about mental illness?
openSolidified Non-matter
Do we have a trope about something insubstantial/abstract becomes a tangible thing (usually called "crystallized")? Like literal fabrics of space or orbs of people's souls.
openIs there a trope for a weirdly named sex position or just a weird sex position?
I feel like this is a common sex joke, but I can't find a trope that matches with it.
openStandalone tropes / crossover trope? Live Action TV
I know there's Standalone Episode for when an episode of a Live-Action TV series is self-contained, but is there a trope for this situation:
- A Crisis Crossover involves three series from The 'Verse (maybe The Flash (2014), Supergirl and ''Legends of Tomorrow and is promoted as a separate series under a different title with its own Special Edition Title, and it's self-contained enough that the Story Arc within the Crisis Crossover doesn't have any effect on the Myth Arc of all three shows.
Is there such a Crossover Index trope for this?
Edited by Merseyuser1openWhen Someone Reacts to Faint Praise With Anger, Surprising Praiser
Alice, Bob, and Charlie, meet up with Daniel, a rather bratty Manchild who treats them terribly and insults them. Charlie tells Alice cheerfully, "Huh, Alice, I guess there ARE people out there more annoying then Bob! My Bad!" He is very confused when Alice gets furious with him, because Charlie finds Bob quite annoying for whatever reason and thinks by acknowledging that Daniel is MORE annoying, he's doing Alice a favor. He complains about it to Bob, who likewise gives him the cold shoulder.
open"Adults have emotions too" Aesop?
What's the trope for An Aesop in a children's work about how grown-ups (get scared/get sad/get angry/cry etc) as well as children?
openUsing someone's arrogance against them Literature
Do we have an article for the particular sort of Batman Gambit that exploits the victim's confidence in their own power, and goads them into chasing a minor but annoying enemy (perhaps to regain their honor) and so lure them into a trap?
openPeriods Are A Big Deal?
Is there a trope for when preteens make a big deal about menstruation?
openDo we have this trope?
I saw on a anime and was wondering if i can find similar shows. It was about time travel, for example, the character hears a story of how much he look alike a hero of long time ago, then he time travels to the past and do some deeds and is recognized as that hero, similar to You Will be Beethoven, but not quite since he didn't replace anyone.
openHarmless Cultural Myopia
A trope where a character from a different culture always acts as though his culture's standards are still the norm (but not claiming that they're better; as far as he's concerned the entire world uses those standards).
For example, a character from an isolated island where the only four-legged animal are dogs, so he refers to any four-legged animal as an x-dog (horned-dog for cows, fast-dog for horses, mane-dog for lions, etc.) despite being told their names. Or a Russian living in the US who applies Patronymics in place of people's actual names, e.g. Abraham Thomasovitch Lincoln instead of, well, Abraham Lincoln.

Is there a trope for songs with Magic Music connections, being called "Under X Spell"?
Literal Metaphor or something?
openRoom of Judgement/Final Judgement? Videogame
Do we have a trope for this and if so what would it fall under? I listed it under video game because that's where I've seen it used most but really this trope could apply to any medium in which the player/viewer has some degree of control over the medium in question. This trope is basically when, often towards the end of a video game, the player and/or player character gets judged for his or her actions and attributes. I can think of several examples for this one, such as in Video Game/Undertale in which Sans judges you at the end of the game in that brightly lit room just before you face Asgore. Depending on the choices the player made and how they played he may either praise them or "show them a bad time". In Always Sometimes Monsters you get this too, with the player being judged for their actions and dialogue choices by the parent of their ex. In Dragon Age: Origins, there is something to this effect as well when you go to retrieve the Urn of Sacred Ashes. Any help finding this trope if it exists would be much appreciated, thanks!
Edited by EtagirlopenCalendar glitch trope? Anime
So I'm updating Uma Musume Pretty Derby and I found that moment where they have a date on a poster which is a Sunday. It was a Sunday in 1998 when the prototype event happened. It is, however, not a Sunday in 2018, which seems to the the inworld timeline. Of course it is a different world so possibly their weekdays for years are different.
This probably goes under Trivia but what trope?
