A trope where a character from a different culture always acts as though his culture's standards are still the norm (but not claiming that they're better; as far as he's concerned the entire world uses those standards).
For example, a character from an isolated island where the only four-legged animal are dogs, so he refers to any four-legged animal as an x-dog (horned-dog for cows, fast-dog for horses, mane-dog for lions, etc.) despite being told their names. Or a Russian living in the US who applies Patronymics in place of people's actual names, e.g. Abraham Thomasovitch Lincoln instead of, well, Abraham Lincoln.
